Very slow at same time every day

Normally, my Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5300 works just fine, but at 8:00 every night the whole computer (not just the internet) gets very, very slow. Obviously, there's something that is scheduled to download updates every day at that time. I have Windows and all my non-Toshiba programs set to check for, download, and install updates only manually, so the program that is screwing everything up must be one of the bloatware programs installed by Toshiba. The problem is, I don't know which one or if and how to change the schedule. I have tried going to Task Manager when this happens, but once I finally get it to open, I can only get a quick glimpse of the list of running programs getting shorter by one item. Any suggestions?

If everything slows down, it's more likely a program is scheduled to run. Windows and Toshiba have lots of programs like that in Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc),
When things are slow, open Task Manager (taskmgr.exe - press Ctrl+Shift+Esc). On the Processes tab, click the CPU column title to sort high usage to the top. Tell us which process is hogging things.

  • Macbook slows down at the same time every day.

I know this makes me sound crazy, but my Macbook (running Mac OS X) starts to get inexplicably sluggish at the same time every day – roughly between 4:30 and 5 p.m. Applications start temporarily freezing up and I get that beachball-looking thing, and I have to force quit applications because they won't quit normally. I have McAffee virus protection through my school and a full scan reveals nothing. I also have the latest security updates.
The applications I run on a given day are pretty typical: Chrome, Acrobat, Dropbox, Twitter desktop and Word. I never download any unauthorized software or shady files. No idea what it could be, but it is not just in my head. Any educated guesses?

Is the McAffee anti virus set to scan automaticaly around 4:30 -5:00?
.....you might want to open Activity Monitor and check what apps are running and check their CPU usage.......sounds like something is running in the background.....

Its due to one of two reasons, you have mains supply spikes/blackouts or the power supply is faulty in the router. Because it's occurring at a regular timed intervals, I'd say it's more likely to be the former. You need to check whether something in the premises  is switching on at that time, examples would be electrical water heaters on timers, etc... And also confirm that the router mains cable is plugged firmly into the socket, as if it's loose it would make it more subseptable to such spikes/blackouts.

  • Mouse/keyboard freezing machine around same time every day

Using a silver tower G5 here and around the same time every day for the past week I've had to power down the machine. The mouse and keyboard just freeze. About a week ago we did put this on a KVM to switch between this and a G4 connected to a SCSI scanner. The KVM has only PS/2 ports so we're using the Belkin Y PS/2 to USB adapters. The problem seemed to have started a day or so after starting to use the KVM but I'm not sure if this is related to the freezing problem. Here's what's in the Console around the time of the freeze:

Too many adapters. For troubleshooting purposes can you go with a mouse and keyboard connected as directly as possible?
Do you know what Adobe LM is? That seems to be buggering things up a little.
If you still have the errors after trying it with as few adapters as possible, try repairing your startup disk.

  • Losing Wifi same time every day.

Hi, I lose my wifi at the same time every day. Vodafone tell me there is nothing wrong and nobody else is using my wifi. They have told me to use a cable which for me defeats the object of wifi, even though it does actually work when I connect with a cable. I also have to run a cable from my router to my apple tv, so I'm kind of getting a bit frustrated with cables running all over my living room. Anyone got any ideas as to what might be wrong? Thanks, Andy.

    Have a look here.. http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/52465/?s_cid=con_FURL_help/hub5update
I assume this is supposed to fix the fault. Or perhaps another problem we arent aware of.
At the moment my hub has continued to behave itself and has stayed connected for over 4 days 8 hours.

  • Pixelation on only 6 premium channels around same time every day

I've had a couple of different problems.  The newest problem is pixelation on 4 Starz Channels and 2 Encore channels.  Happens every day around the same time and the whole weekend.  So basically when I want to watch TV.  Called twice in the beginning  6 months ago and after service over phone had me check things etc. told me they had complaints in area and they were aware of it and were fixing it.  I'm pretty busy and very patient, so finally a few days ago, I had it.  Called again.  They had me do the same checks etc.  Scheduled Tech to come out the next day (Sat) and because of an additional problem with a mitel voip phone not working with westel box the Tech was suppose to bring the latest edition of the Action Tech box (which they were suppose to give me at installation 2 yr ago but the Tech didn't have one on the truck) and I was hoping he would be able to fix both problems.  However,  Tech came out and had given the last action tech box to previous customer right before me (again) so I'm still daisy-chained with Dlink and westel box just to get me working.  But interest thing is I have 5 TV's in my house all hooked up and they all have this problem.  Tech told me that the installer who worked my house used 3 or 4 splitters and at the most they should use two.  I've had Verizon when it was DSL so for a long time.  Guess they didn't change out my box on outside of house either when they installed me.  So now I have a complete re-install suppose to happen just to get me corrected.  So for two years I've had no guide, no VOD or any of the other features offered.  The pixelation thing is fairly recent, like 6 months ago.  I just hope someone will just get me fixed.  I am tired of just putting up with this.  I've printed off the different helpful things ya'll put on here and have folder so I can at least show the guy when he comes out.  I have two of the 5 TV's that are HD so want to upgrade the boxes on them and wondering if they shouldn't just upgrade the others too while they are out here.  Any suggestions or thoughts on if this will actually correct my problem or how I can just get everything upgraded to the newest since I've put up with this for so long?

    Hello Cgsheridan,
Sounds like there are 2 different issues here. One is order related the other is technical.  To upgrade the set top boxes an order will need to be placed which we can assist in getting you connected with an order specialist if you would like.  As for the router replacement and cabling issues that will need to be done on a repair ticket.  I will send you a private message to get more information to start the process.
    Thank you

  • BBC1 Goes black at the same time every day

    Hello,
Im a big fan of detective shows and I like to watch Diagnosis Murder on BBC1 at 2:15pm every day but the problem is as soon as the show starts the screen goes completely black and even BBC2 goes black I can still hear sound in the background on both channels though.  The only way to get the picture back is for me to navigate to ITV1 and then back to BBC1 and the picture comes back perfectly fine.
The very odd thing is that this happens EVERY day at 2:15pm at the exact moment Diagnosis Murder starts.  Ive tried resetting my vision box and leaving it off for a few hours but it keeps doing it.
Could this be a problem with BBC or a glitch in the broadcast signal thats making my box go loopy at 2:15pm every day?
Anyone else had this?.  Try it this afternoon

I've noticed this too!! Thought I was going mad, exactly the same problem on the same show. WEIRD!! I've only found one solution, same as you, to switch to another channel and back again seems to solve it.

  • Disconnecting roughly at the same time every day.

    Hi
I hope I have posted this in the right forum.
I have a homehub 5 and I am currently on BT Infinity 2.
Every day between 17:00-17:20 my router disconnects and reboots itself. I've noticed in the Boot section of the Hub's Event Log the words "Watchdog Reset". Is there a problem with my router?
The disconnects happen whether I'm using the internet or not.
Below is an small portion of the HH5 boot log.

Last week I noticed that my router was disconnecting every night at around 9:00pm.
Since last weekend it has changed its routine and now disconnects at around 11:00pm. I have also had the watchdog reset message in the log but only once.

Around the time of the disconnection, my hub also seems to go back by an hour, and then resets the time to the correct time after NTP sync. see below. Does yours do this?

Also, do you see any of the CWMP messages like the one in my log, happening at around the same time?
I suspect that these CWMP are somehow triggering the disconnections, and it has something to do with the last firmware update that happened mid-January.
Someone suggested that I should perform a factory reset of the hub.
I'm a little reluctant to do so as this turns the openwifi service back on as default, and in the past I have had problems restoring my backed up settings. as the saved config file was corrupted.
I am considering giving the factory reset a go when I have some time at the weekend.
You may want to give it a go also.
Yes, it seems I have the CWMP messages as well.
I have just done a factory reset on my home hub 5 and will keep an eye on it over the next few days.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Wireless Router cuts out at the same time every day.

I'm having an issue with my WRT160N router.  I'm noticing that my internet connection cuts out for about 5 minutes every day in between 5:30-7:30 pm.  Without fail, every single day, I can count on it going out for about 5 minutes during this time.  The desktop, which is wired, remains working during this time.  I'm at my wits end here, since I'm an online student, and this is my best time to schedule quizzes and exams.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Is your network is secured?
If the network is not secured than put some security on the router or else if the network is already secured then try to increase the security level by WPA or WPA2.
Also change the network name to some unique name.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box.
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...

    It's a straight-through connection via a USB modem.

  • Connection dropping. Same time every day. Packet B...

Hi there, I am at the end of my tether trying to get assistance through the BT phone number. Here is the background.
I had a 2nd line added to my property in September 2013 to be a dedicated broadband line, no other phone ports were created other than the master socket. The BT Home Hub is connected to this master socket and I connect to it via WiFi upstairs. No telephone is used on the socket. The router is the small black one with the 3 blue lights that you see on the advert.
The connection has been fantastic up until 12th February when I reported Fault ref : VOL051-**********
At the moment that Fault ref has a graphic showing Broadband Problem at Location (1) BT Retail Servers.
I'm from an IT background and feel I understand a lot of what goes on, any questions, just ask me.
I am a Sports Trader and have dedicated software that has a Ping graphic, this means that at all times I can see that I have a stable connection (or not).
Overview : At 9:30pm every other day, my connection becomes unstable, the ping graphic flashes red showing that some pings to the server are taking in excess of 1000 milli seconds, when they are normally around 60ms.
Over the next 5 minutes, everything grinds to a halt.
I then moan for the next hour rebooting, restarting until things settle down to normal around 10:30pm.
During this hour, there are times where my router can't connect to broadband, there are other times where it claims its connected but the speed is akin to an old dialup.
I have disconnected anything wireless around the house over the last month, nothing is solving the problem.
I've looked in the Event Logs and I am convinced there is something far wrong internally. I will paste this below.
I also ran a tracert to google.co.uk during the problem time tonight, it took forever and I will also paste this below.
I had been out tonight so returned home and tried to start working at 22:07, my wife had been on the connection from a different laptop earlier.

  • Broadband Disconnecting at the Same Time Every Day

I have been getting help from the MODs in the last week about the SNR on my line. But this weekend, my line was set to 9dB and in the morning it is synced at about 5600 kbps. But then at about 6PM the line goes down and it syncs lower at about 4800 kbps. The noise isn't getting really low and it's disconnecting because of that. It disconnects when the line is at about 8.5dB. So what's going on?

One possible solution would be to organise your inbox into folders.
Its never relly good on any system to have one folder that has everything in it.
Try going to you web gui for that mail account and organise your folders and move mails from your inbox into corresponding folders for better organisation.
Several folders containing the same amount of one folder will usually load a little quicker as the folder may not be accessed to download its content unless veiwed.
So having 10 folders with organised content, and you inbox as an area thats to hold only new emails would work much much quicker with imap.
Most imap servers will only update the contents of a folder when its veiwed.

I want to get a new iPhone to replace this defective phone. I am gonna be crazzzzzzzyyyyyyyy with anger,!!!,!,,,!  I takes2 hours to go to Regent street apple stores for three times!!!!!. It is a lot of transport fees !
PLz tell me why! How to deal with it !

Unless it's confirmed officially that your phone is defective, then you can ask for a replacement. Or you have to live with you. However you can trade it for a new one if you don't care the price drop.
