Very slow BT broadband, only 200Kbps for download

Very slow BT broadband, only 200Kbps for download. It started since Tuesday.  Usual speed is 3 to 4Mbps.
Any problem in the Liverpool area?

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1)
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

    Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
    See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

    welcome to the forum    why don't you start your own subject and post the adsl stats from your router and also run btspeedtester and post the results and someone may be able to offer assistance

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

    Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
    Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.
    Thanks,

    Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
    Partition and Format the hard drive:
    Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Simple Soap Test, VERY SLOW with XP, only 5 calls per second !

    Hello,
    I'm just starting developing a web service. My first test shows a very slow performance of only about 5 calls per second:
    Windows XP client localhost -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second
    Windows XP client in VM on server maschine -> Windows XP server: 4,5 calls per second
    Windows XP client over 100 MBit LAN -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second: 4,5 calls per second
    Windows XP client over 1000 MBit LAN -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second: 4,5 calls per second
    So you might think, that is it, but - using identical jars:
    Mac OS X, 10.6 client -> Windows XP server: 880 calls per second
    Windows XP client -> Mac OS X 10.6 server: 4,5 calls per second
    So the problem seems to be the client setup on an Windows XP system.
    This is the service code:
    package net.metasafe.soapbenchmark.server;
    import javax.jws.WebMethod;
    import javax.jws.WebService;
    @WebService
    public class TestLib {
         private int count = 0;
         public TestLib() {
              // nothing to do
         @WebMethod
         public int div(int a, int b) {
              this.count++;
              if (b == 0)
                   throw new IllegalArgumentException("b must not be 0!");
              return a / b;
         @WebMethod
         public int getNumberOfCalls() {
              return this.count;
         @WebMethod
         public void resetCount() {
              this.count = 0;
    }This is the sevice publisher:

              URL url = new URL("http://" + args[0] + ":" + args[1]
                        + "/services?wsdl");
              System.out.println("Conneting to service '" + url + "' .... ");
              QName qname = new QName("http://some_uri/",

              for (i = 1; i <= num; i++) {
                   tl.div(i, 2);
                   if (i % 100 == 0)
                        System.out.println(i);
              long t = System.currentTimeMillis() - starttime;
              System.out.println("Performed " + tl.getNumberOfCalls() + " calls in "
                        + (t / 1000.0f) + " seconds.");
              System.out.println("Calls per second: " + (num * 1000.0f / t));
              System.out.println("Done");
         }Any idea, why this is so slow, if the client runs on an Windwos XP (Pro) system ?
    Is there anything I have to be aware of when choosing the QName ?
    Best regards
    Marc

    Hello,
    no one any idea on for this ?
    How many calls do you get normally on Windows XP machines ?

  • Urgent - VERY slow BT Broadband

    Hello there,
    I need your help
    Over the past few weeks I've been getting very slow download speeds with BT Broadband Unlimited and was just wondering if someone could help! It is a big problem for me now as I am preparing for exams and need to watch some course tutorial videos posted by the uni. The speed is so slow that it gets impossible to watch any of those videos (or even Youtube videos for the matter) without constant buffering. Downloading large files has become a nightmare. (I currently get an horrendous 200kbps download rate when downloading large files. I used to get 2mbs when downloading those same files as of a few weeks ago).
    The slow speed problem started a few weeks ago, but I never had time to investigate until now. My broadband was fast previously. A test done on speedtest.net a few months ago was showing a download speed of over 10-15Mbps (don't remember the exact figure). The test I just did indicates a download speed of only 1.68mbps with a terrible upload speed of 0.32mbps!
    The guys at the BT call centre were unable to help! I didn't know what to do until I found this forum.
    I ran a few tests by connecting my laptop directly to the hub (Home Hub 4) with an ethernet cable.
    Here are the results I got:
    BT Speed tester:
    speed coming into house from Exchange: 1.94MB
    Download speed 1.73
    upload speed 0.33
    Indicator says: "poor".
    Test from speedtest.net:
    ping 12ms
    download speed 1.68mbps
    upload speed 0.32mbps
    ADSL Line settings:
    Line state: Connected
    Connection time: 7 days, 21:51:35
    Downstream: 1.898 Mbps
    Upstream: 379.9 Kbps
    Home Hub 4 does not give access to the full settings. However, I was able to get the following additional data from the event log in "Advanced settings":
    20:23:47, 20 Mar. ( 103.870000) ETHoA is up VPI: 0, VCI:35
    20:23:45, 20 Mar. ( 102.410000) DSL noise margin: 6.00 dB upstream, 5.60 dB downstream
    20:23:44, 20 Mar. ( 100.540000) DSL line rate: 379 Kbps upstream, 1944 Kbps downstream
    There is no internal wire problem. I tested the connection from the test socket and got the same thing. So it is likely that the problem is coming from the Exchange itself (I live in London Bayswater).
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you very much
    Alex

    Hello imjolly,
    Thanks for your message.
    Even if I reconnect to the test socket, it seems I would not be able to provide you with the same 2 lines from the logs I posted above because the upstream/downstream data seems to be taken only once every 10 days by the Home Hub 4 (at least what is shown by the event log). I did all tests indicated in my post above yesterday and as you can see in that log, the last upstream/downstream data dates from March 20th.
    Here are the results from the BT wholesale page:

    Hmm, VP (Virtual Path) status is green so that wouldn't be causing any blocks or slowdowns. It may be down to contention but I doubt it. Is there any chance that you may have gone over your monthly allowance? If you are on option 3 and you do, you will be throttled to 1mbps. Judging by your throughput that isn't the case.
    Contention is the only problem I can think of because you are not at 1mbps and your IP profile is sufficient for you to get nearly 20x what you got on the test. It may just be BT still migrating everyone over to the 21CN network. I'm sure it will clear up eventually.
    Either way, it could be a problem down at the exchange or it could be the connection from the router to your computer.
    Please could you try and do a speedtest here: http://www.speedtest.net/  out of peak times to see if it makes a difference and see if it isn't the contention or Java playing up?
    Thanks

  • VERY slow performance with CS4 + Save for web

    Note: I have done a search for similar issues but can find nothing regarding CS4 and this particular issue. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz w/4GB of RAM and resources are aplenty when the issue occurs.
    Issue
    My problem is that under certain circumstances the 'save as web' function can take upto 3 minutes before the diaglog box appears. I've had this for some time but only in the last couple of days did I notice something that might be relevant:
    Works
    1. Open 3 large TIFF files @ 120mb approx (mine are 3 processed RAW files from Capture One / 4200x5600@300dpi)
    2. Create a new adjustment layer for each image
    3. Resize each image to 72dpi @ 800x600
    4. Run a SmartSharpen & flatten layers
    5. In each tab (for each image) do 'save as web'
    6. 'Save as web' dialog appears in expected time
    VERY slow
    1. Open 3 large TIFF files @ 120mb approx (mine are 3 processed RAW files from Capture One / 4200x5600@300dpi)
    2. Create a new adjustment layer for each image
    3. Resize each image to 72dpi @ 800x600
    4. Run a SmartSharpen & flatten layers for each image
    5. In first tab do 'save as web'
    6. 'Save as web' dialog appears in expected time
    7. Close this document (tab)
    8. Go to the next image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    9. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
    10. Close this document (tab)
    11. Go to the last image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    12. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
    As I can easily go through this process for 50-60 images you can imagine that it can waste over an hour of my time waiting for Photoshop to get it's act together. I assume it's something todo with memory allocation, or that it's processing previews for all three tabs on the first 'save as web', but in any respect it's very annoying. There seems nothing obviously wrong resource-wise at the time of doing these.
    Would be interested if anyone else has this issue!
    Thanks!

    I had the same problem when I setup a new computer this week. Here's what I had installed:
    Photoshop CS5
    Suitcase Fusion 3
    The problem was that when I was in Photoshop and used the "Save for Web" export screen, the dropdown menu for the different export types (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc) would take an extremely long time to update the preview of the graphic.
    After a few days of research , I found that Suitcase was conflicting with Photoshop. Here's how you fix the problem (or at least here's what I did with my situation):
    Open Suitcase
    Go to "Tools", click "Manage Plugins"
    Deactivate the Photoshop plugin
    This fixed the problem immediately and now my Photoshop" Save For Web" feature is working really fast. Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat.

  • Airport (very) slow, ethernet fast, only my Mac affected

    Dear community,
    I experience a weird problem since some days which gives me a headache. Following situation:
    - Airport is connected with my router properly
    - I experience very slow connection speeds
    - Other users within the same network do not have any problem
    - When connected to the same router with ethernet: normal speed
    What makes the issue totally absurd is that I dont have any slowdowns in other networks using airport. Any suggestions?

    What da hack is going on?

    I have the impression that the speed is slightly increased, but that does not make that much sense to me. So I checked speedtest.org.....still very slow.
    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for any help or advice

    Hi David4674,
    Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum.
    After your broadband has been activated your line will go through a 10 day stabilisation period.  Your connection speed can be expected to fluctuate within this stabilisation period.  Have you noticed any improvement so far?
    Looking at your speed results it seems your IP profile has hit rock bottom at 135.  Do you sometimes notice that you temporarily lose connection?  It is very important that you leave your hub on as much as possible especially within the training period.
    Please drop us an update and let us know how your connection is performing now.
    Cheers
    Sean

  • Very slow infinity broadband

    Hi there,
    Firstly, I am advising a friend of mine as he is quite intimidated by computers, though I myself am no expert.
    He has BT infinity broadband and has recently had a drop in speed to 0.29 mb/sec download, 0.69 mb/sec upload.  Calling the helpline has only been an exercise in frustration.  A tech visit found corrosion at the connections on the nearest telephone pole.  Repairing this has cut down the background noise on the 'phone line but not improved the broadband speed.
    I have tried a new filter (there is only one 'phone jack in the house), a new cable to the modem and connecting my own laptop directly to the hub with my own cat 5 cable.  None of which has made any difference to the connection speed.  The only thing I can see that is left is the hub itself but I have no way of testing this.
    Calling the help desk only results in having to go through the same checks again and again.
    My friend has become so frustrated he has now ordered infinity 2 in the hope that a new installation will solve his problems!
    Is there something I have missed which is likely to help solve his problem?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    Tell him to cancel the Infinity 2 order. If there is an underlying fault with the line etc it will still be there with Infinity 2. All he will have is more expense for the same problem.
    You say that the previous visit "cut down " the noise on the phone. There should be no noise at all. He probably still has a fault on the line and he should call BT and complain that the fault is still there.

  • Podcast episodes only available for download when subscribed to podcast

    I have a newly created podcast that I created for a client and you can locate the podcast in itunes, however none of the podcast show up.  Once you subscribe to the podcast you can download episodes.  What could be wrong?
    Podcast Link:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/global-outreach-center-jacksonville/id696239 758?mt=2
    Podcast Feed:  http://feeds.feedburner.com/globaloutreachcenter/xkzn
    I set this up like all other podcasts I control however this one is acting funny.
    Any help you can give would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    There are three episodes in the feed. All three show when subscribing, and on the Store web page. However in the Store within iTunes only two show - oddly enough the middle one is missing - but the Store claims to be showing three items.
    We've seen this before: it's a bug in the Store, and I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do about it - your feed is fine. It will probably sort itself out eventually.

  • Time Machine backup very slow on WD My Book For Mac external HD

    I have been using a Western Digital 1 TB external HD (My Book For Mac) to backup my data today for the first time, using their SmartWare software. Everything went smoothly, I backed up 91 GB of data in 2-3 hours.
    At the same time, I have also Time Machine activated, which started backing up my files a while ago, but it is crawling at 8 MB per minute. A quick calculation tells me it will take 180 hours to back up 90 GB (?).
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Are SmartWare and TimeMachine supposed to be run exclusive of each other?
    2. If I just ran TimeMachine, why is it so slow? I use a USB 2.0 connection that worked fine for the My Book's own software.
    Thanks for your help!

    You should first repartition and format the drive. Most likely it is setup for use on Windows. Try this:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Do not use the WD software. If it's you wish to create a bootable backup of your drive as well as keep a TM backup, then you should create two partitions on the drive. One for your non-TM backup and one for TM. For the bootable backup use third-party software such as SuperDuper!, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SilverKeeper - Download at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
    Note that many WD drive systems cannot be used for bootable backups. You can find information related to this at the WD web site.
