Very slow connection all of a sudden

Hi guys...
I have been connected with the HH3 for a week and a half now and the speed was getting up nicely (we were upto about 3/3.5mbps) but I accidentally pulled the plug out and then put it back in and ever since we have been on about 0.5/0.7mbps.
I have restarted it a couple of times and it just doesn't seem to get any quicker!
Any ideas?!
Thanks!

Hi,
It is best to keep the hub connected 24/7 without continuous restarts/ resets.
to help us find the problem with your connection please may you see the following steps below:
1) Are you connected by master or test socket?.
2) Can you please run a BT speed test http://speedtester.bt.com (not beta version)
3) is there any noise on your line. dial 17070 option2 from landline. should be silent but slight hum normal on cordless phone.
4) please post adsl line statistics
ADSL Line Stats Help
If you have a BT Home Hub then....
Then:
1) Go to http://192.168.1.254 or http://bthomehub.home
2) click Settings
3) Click Advanced Settings
4) Click Broadband
5) Click Connection or sometimes called ADSL

  • Such a slow connection - all of a sudden?

    this is so frustrating!
i had a lot of issues with my macbook pro the end of last week. they decided it was so much of a hardware issue to just give me a new computer. they did a data transfer so all is well. i decided to change our internet to password protected last night (it hasnt been yet but i think our apartment neighbors are stealing it off us because in the last month or so its gotten much slower) i added a password (i think i did it righ!?) and now my internet is running REALLY slow. it takes forever for pages to pull up- some pages dont pull up - my ftp server is usually really fast and it is taking over 45 minutes right now..
could i have switched some settings when i changed to a password protected network? why else would a new computer (granted there is a lot on here that is coming off!) but my other computer had all the same information and was still very fast.
    any insight would be awesome!
thanks in advance for your time,
    keri

Maybe you have reached your qutoa of downloads, since your neighbours have been using your connection. Some internet providers limit download speed after you reach a certain amount.. find out, that could be your problem.. Simply putting a password on your account will not slow your connection, unless you have changed other settings...

  • I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? Thanks

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.
    Thanks,
    JJ

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Very slow connection with Mifi 4510L??

I'm hoping someone here can give some guidance. I am having very slow connection with the 4510L we just got. Via test on speedtest.net I'm seeing download speed of .17 MBPS at times it was so slow the test was not completing. I normally have 1 or 2 bars on the mifi unit and have seen up to 3 at times. I drove into town and see the same range (1 to 3 bars). I have yet to see the 4G light come on except for prior to activation (would light solid green at times) since activating I have only seen the violet light for 3G.
Verizon advertises full service both around our city (Richmond, VA) and at my more remote location in Hanover. I have been through the recommended resets and nothing seems to improve the connection speed. Could the unit itself be defective? Also, I've noticed when I go to a location website it thinks I am in Pennsylvania when I am in Virginia. Could the Mifi be trying to connect to a signal in that location for some reason (was refurbished device)
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Brian

I was having problems but upgrading to 2.28 seems to have helped me in addition to a few other changes I made based on this review of the 4510L
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4500/novatel-wireless-mifi-4510l-review-the-best-4g-lte-wifi-hotspot/4
    1) "selecting WPA2 Personal/PSK (AES)"
    2) "manually selecting a channel (instead of Auto) fixes almost all the instability problems"
(I'm not sure if it actually worked as the diagnostics always shows channel 0 no matter what I picked.  I did try a couple before one - or the myriad of other things I tried - seemed to make a difference - at least for now - fingers crossed)
    3) "allowing for one to select between each network mode manually, so you can force 4G LTE, EVDO, 1xRTT, or all of the above. This is incredibly useful if you’re right at the cutoff for 4G LTE SINR"  (that's WWAN Preferred Mode LTE only for me)
    4) I also changed my 802.11 Mode to just one mode that works on both computers at my house
    5) I am also careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
It is my only internet service due to my semiremote location (no cable etc) and when I first got it as a replacement for my dependable 2200 I was about to pull all my hair out.  I was "forced" into it because due to antenna issues on a local tower that supplies my 3G signal my 2200 wasn't even able to load my gmail account.  Verizon very helpful on that - call us if its still an issue in a "few weeks"!  However, when I inquired about the antenna's effect on a 4G signal, an intelligent tech was able to tell me that it was not the tower I would be getting a 4G signal off of - odd but I didn't question that possibility.
It runs very very warm but I suspect having it on the charger and using it almost all day is part of that.  At first I was wondering if heat was part of the problem - going so far as to have it sitting on an ice pack to test that theory.  Of course then I had to wonder if maybe I was freezing it -lol.  I am careful to turn it off when I am done with it and take it off the charger for the night as well.
I've been on it most of the day and it seems to be behaving well - so fingers crossed

  • Very slow connection after phone line repair

I had my phone line repaired yesterday with new cabling and new BT box for phone and computer. My phone is fine, but the hub for my broadband does not appear to be ok.  the phone symbol on the hub did not light up at all  this morning, and after restarting the hub and going back to default settings it is now glowing orange only.  It was ok yesterday after being fixed. Very slow connection now. Should i keep  everything on  to see if it will right itself, or re-start yet again?
I have been looking on BT's options for fixing but can't seem to find anything. the connections in my area are fine so it can't be an outside fault

Which home hub do you have? Did you recently re-contract or change your package, as that will affect your hub phone.
As for the speed issue, it should get better if you leave it alone.

  • Help : very slow connection speed with AEBS and iMac

I connect to the internet using my newly purchased AEBS. I have a MacBook and an 24" iMac ( purchased in Nov 2007). My iMac showed very slow connecting speed of <1 MB/s download; with my MacBook placed just 1 foot from my iMac, the MacBook showed an amazing download speed of 20MB/s. If i connect the iMac to the AEBS using ethernet cable, it can get a very high speed.
    So, where is the problem??
I am new to wireless, please help. I use iMac more than my MacBook at home.
Actually, i did not touch the any of the advance setting of the AEBS.

You know, I am experiencing the same problem. My wife's PC and iPhone are blazing fast, but my MacBook is accessing the internet at about dial-up speeds. Very frustrating and I haven't yet found the culprit.
    Anyone???

  • ARD 3.7.2 very slow connection on Lan

I'm running ARD 3.7.2 on MacBook Air (OSX 10.9.2) to connect mac mini (8gb / osx 10.9.2)  very slow connection on LAN.
Mini connected to LAN 100Mbit Ethernet, MacBook connection is wi-fi

Ok, I solved it after doing some extensive Google searching.  Still not sure why ARD went bonkers, but here's my fix.
    1. Download the ARD 3.7.1 client drom the Apple downloads page and install it manually on the client machine.
    2.  Go back to the administrator machine and delete the computer client from the computers list.
    3.  From the scanners list, find the now visible client machine (it will probably say "no user name or password" next to it) and drag it to the computer list.
    4.  When you drag it over it will ask for the username and password.  Fill in an administrator user name and password for that computer, click OK and you're done.
Still a mystery as to why ARD software itself will not create new client packages.  I still haven't figured that part out.  Downloading the standard client package from Apple is the only work around I know of so far.  Good luck.

  • Very SLOW connection - 5 mbps download

Since November, 2014, I've been experiencing very slow connection.
    Redlands, CA 92373
5 mbps download 30 mbps upload
Called the call center 5 times. Each time, just a bunch of rebooting the router & speedtest.net checking
A new Verizon router was installed and didn't improve anything.
Technician 1 visited and mentioned that there is a network hardware problem in the area and many people called in for slow connection issues. The technician rebooted the ONT box and said if the speed goes down again, the ONT box should be replaced. The speed went down as soon as the technical left.
Technician 2 visited and replaced the ONT box. Later that day, the speed went down to 5 mpbs for download.
It's so slow at the time of writing this that Facebook page is rendered with texts only.
Are there anyone from Redlands, CA area who have been experiencing the slow connection for a while?
I don't want to call in again to go thru another around of 1 hour long rebooting / resetting the router and chekcing the speedtest.net exercises.
I feel I am being ripped off because I am paying for 75/75.
I'm running out of patience and am considering to switch to Timewarner.

  • My internet speed suddenly went VERY slow on all browser

    I am running on a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, 2 Ghz Intel i7, 4GB Ram DDR3.
I am experiencing very slow internet speed after some system update some time ago.
I have tried using wireless and LAN cable but both results the same.
I've tried resetting routers in both my office and home but it is still as disappointing.
Kindly advice on what to do? I've forgotten which update is it as it is some time ago already.
I have installed bootcamp in my macbook and tried the using from windows but there isn't such issue. The internet was smooth and great.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Slow internet connection all of a sudden x2

I have a similar problem. My internet is running super slow all of a sudden on a high speed DSL line that used to take only seconds to transer the data. My MacBookPro has also had the hard drive replaced recently. Are there viruses and spyware that can now infiltrate Macs? This type of performance is unacceptable in a high priced Mac.

It's highly unlikely to be any sort of 'virus' ...
What does http://www.speedtest.net/ show as your up/down speed?
Have you talked to your ISP about the drop in speed (may be them)?
Have you configured Primary and Secondary DNS servers in System Preferences/Network/Airport TCP/IP Tab ?
Have you changed the MTU (path of discovery) setting above 1492?

  • Very slow connection with db2 ver 9.1 client on win2000

I have been having difficulty in diagnosing why when after installing db2 9.1 fp5  client on our wind2000 box which has Crystal Embedded 10 RAS ( service pack 6 ) running, the reports  that i am invoking using the Java SDK ( we have an  online J2ee web application ) are very slow. I have narrowed the problem area down to where the java sdk is trying to set the table location.
Using the db2 7.1 client since 2005, we have not had this issue. We must upgrade to ver 9.1 db2 since this is being done at  an enterprise level. I upgraded our test server to 9.1 and noticed this slowness. With the 7.1 db2 client and the same RAS server, the reports take about 2 or 3 seconds but with the 9.1 client the reports take about 40+ seconds each and this is always as the setTableLocation method. Once is goes through this, the rest runs fine.
I have tested this with a local db2 datbase on windows, a remote db2 database 3000 miles away ( same as with what the 71 client runs against) and it is consistently the same response time.
I did notice that if I ran my java online on the same server as the RAS server, the response time is great. This only seems to be happenning when the java app is not on the same server as the RAS server.
I also have a java stub that does not run in a web container. in this case, with the same code and the same databases, whether i am local or remote from the crystal server, the response time is 40+ seconds to connect.
The .rpt files are developed via Crystal Reports 10 and we develop on a local database and we modify the database credentials throught the SDK as we deploy upto production. I have also tried this with the same database we developed with and the same 40+ seconds connect time.
All of these scenarios work fine with the 7.1 client.
so it seems there is some connection issue with the 9.1 client only.
    Need help urgently.

I have exactly the same issue.

  • Slow bootup all of a sudden

    Hi all,
Ytd all of a sudden my MBP start up becomes extremely slow. It takes ages, around 3 to 5mins or longer. (got no chance to use stopwatch to time it yet) This is what happens.
Press power button -> have the boot up sound -> white screen with apple logo and spinning gear. (from this the wait is unbearable) -> go to a blue screen and wait some more maybe around 1 min -> go to login page and type in password -> long process of loading everything, feel sluggish -> after sometime it works normally again.
From sleep to wake up -> able to open instantly but after logging in, there are freezes for a while.
I don't hear any HDD clicking sounds. I have installed windows 7 via bootcamp as well but that is sometime ago and doesn't give me problems.
My mac HDD left storage is at 170GB, so it shouldn't be because there is not enough space.
    Running 8GB RAM.
This is some of the steps that I have tried and not working.
    1. Uninstall the software that I installed.
    2. Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
    3. Change my RAM physically and still behave the same way. (so i believe it is not RAM failure)
    4. Try disk repair and permission repair through the CD as well.
    5. Try to boot up in verbose mode and saw that loading kernel chace file 'System\Library\Caches\com.apple.kext.caches\Startup\kernelcache_x86_64.3311734 7
(the waiting at that part is very long)
What other thing should I try? Or is this a sign that HDD is failing?
Can anyone know what is this problem?
I search around and most of the solution not helping me at all. =/
    I appreciate the helps. Thanks.

Your hard drive may be failing. One indicator of a failing drive: slow operation on both the Mac and Windows partitions. Another indicator: inability to reinstall OS X from the original installation discs. Disk Utility and even the Apple Hardware Test provide little useful information in a situation such as yours. However, desktop drives typically have a lifespan of 4-5 years, so failure would not be surprising at this point in time.
You could try to reformat the HDD and reinstall OS X again, though you're likely to hit the same error/timeout road block that tripped you up the first time if the hard drive is failing. So, alternatives:
-- Replace the hard drive. You'll find good instructions at iFixit.com and OWC (macsales.com). OR . . .
-- Install OS X (and, if you need it, Windows, too) on an external drive. You'll get best performance by using your fastest port--that is, FireWire 800 rather than USB 2 on a mid 2010 iMac.
