Very slow copying text from microsoft word

Any idea why copying text from word (office 2004) should be v slow? Copying same text in OS9 no problem (am currently copying text from client supplied documents into other applications ie. Quark, so having to go to another machine running previous OS + apps. seems a bit 'unnecessary'!)

Use the smart paste (Ctrl + Shift v) and select plain text only. Otherwise, you're pulling in Word's formatting when you do a regular paste.

  • Pasting text from Microsoft Word

I am working in InDesign on a Windows XP computer. When I paste text from Microsoft Word into InDesign the text loses its formatting such as italics and bold. Is there any way to maintain that formatting? I am supplied with this text by a client and I have so much formatting to do that the projects take me longer than necessary.

... and don't forget to run this set of macros in Word BEFORE you do copy/paste ;)

HOW CAN I IMPORT TEXT FROM MICROSOFT WORD TO THE WEB PAGE?

Another method is tosave your Word document as an a web page.  Then open the htm file, copy the text and paste into an HTML snippet on your web page.  Resize to show all the document and publish. It will retain the style, font and alignment of the original Word document.

  • Importing text from Microsoft Word documents

Can anyone offer recommendations or tips on the Import feature?  I am considering use of import for a vast amount of content from Microsoft Word documents.  I am using DW CS3 and I have heard good and bad about the import feature.  I would like to try to make it work for me and to make sure I'm using it correctly.  Many thanks! Ms. Gill

I hate to say this, but don't do that.
Ms. Web Editor (may I call you Web?), I regularly input stuff my clients send me from Microsoft Word. I never attempt an HTML conversion from Microsoft. It's just too dirty.
Instead, what I do is I copy paragraphs into Dreamweaver's Code View window, putting a <p> and a </p> before and after them.
If there are headings and sub headings in Word, I simply make them into lines without HTML, then press [Command]-1 or [Command]-2 to make those lines into <h1> or <h2> tags.
I never try to export from Word. Microsoft does not know how to create clean HTML and CSS. It is always a losing proposition to trust that they do.

  • Very slow copy speeds from my USB thumb drive.  Why?

I have an 8GB USB thumb drive. When I copy files to/from it to my Mac Pro (Early 2008 2.8Ghz), the transfer speeds are very slow. But when I use it with my 2009 Macbook, the speeds are fast. Why would it work faster with a low end Macbook than with a Mac Pro? I'm using one of the USB ports on the front of the Mac Pro.

    Anyone have an idea?

  • Problem copying text from word to dreamweaver

    Howdy..
had a problem copying text from a word doc (07) to
dreamweaver, for some strange reason it missed a complete section
in the middle, 2 paragraphs gone... no errors... no blank spaces,
just would not copy and paste the section, everything b4 and after
was fine, the only way to correct this was to copy to
textpad/notepad first and then recopy and paste..
    anybody have any ideas ?
    anyone seen this happen b4?
    cheers
    Pythagonal

nope, there didnt seem to be any special formatting in the
word doc, just a straight forward press release, two of them
actually and they both had sections that didn't copy and paste.
what was very strange was it was sections in the middle of
the docs, and wasnt the same in both, was 2 different areas in
each, just when u copy'd and pasted it gave nothing..
and ive never seen anything like it b4,
ive just upgraded to CS4 a few weeks back and this is the
first time ive noticed it, ill keep my eye out and see if its
somethng to do with the way word is formatting stuff..
    cheers

  • Copying text from Word

    Hello
Does anybody know a shortcut or function for copying text
from a word doc without copying the size, colour and type of font
used. Not sure if it's possible to do or not but would save me a
bit of time from having to change the text to the way I want it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Andy

Yet another solution (not necessarily the best). You could
    write a simple
script that sets a cast members font, size, color, etc. You
    could make it so
that it takes a range of cast members. So the process for
    example would be
that you copy/paste text into any number of cast members then
    just call the
    script from the message window.
    --movieScript
    on fixText firstMemberNum, lastmemberNum
repeat with i = firstMemberNum to lastmemberNum
    member(i).font = "verdana"
    member(i).fontsize = 30
    --etc
    end repeat
    end
    --called from message window
    fixText(1,100)

  • Copying text from Word converted from PDF

How do I copy text from a word file that I converted from a PDF?

It's a kludge, but when I want to make sure that all formatting is removed from the contents of the clipboard, so that I can paste plain text, and the app I'm pasting into doesn't have a "Paste and Match Style" option (or something similar), I open up TextWrangler, paste there, then select all and copy. Now your clipboard contains plain text, no styling, and it'll match the style of the existing text wherever you paste it.

  • Pasting text that was copied from microsoft word 2008

In dreamweaver CS3, if I want to paste text that I have
copied from Microsoft Word 2008, i have to paste it in entourage,
copy that and THEN I can paste in dreamweaver. I can't paste
directly in Dreamweaver from word. is there an extension that will
    cut out this extra step?
    Thanks much,
    Page

I just copied two paragraphs of text from Word 2008, and
    pasted it into DW's
    Design view. No tables.
What is it you are copying?

  • ID CS4 slow after pasting text from MS Word

Each time I paste text from a Word document into my ID CS4 document, ID begins to run very slowly. I can't even type properly. Has anyone else seen this?
I have fixed this problem by copying all the text and pasting in the a new document (I thought the document was possibly corrupted). This fixed the problem, but it has happened multiple times now. Much of my information comes from engineers' word documents, so this is not convenient.

The best I can tell, it is related to the cross references, and that it happened after pasting was coincedental. It could have been that pasting made a cross referenced section move to another page, so it was trying to update.
The cross references are a little buggy:
EVERY time I create a cross ref from the cross ref menu (in the cross ref window), ID CS4 (with all patches) crashes. If I create them from the Text menu (at the top), it doesn't crash.
If you have a large number of cross refs in a doc, it becomes slow.
When slowness occurs, I have found that updating the cross refs and then resolving all errors in the cross ref window usually clears it up.

  • Copy text from a PDF to word. Just get Symbols

    Hello,
I have a public PDF with no Copying Restrictions. When I try to copy text from the PDF highlighted text to WORD I only get unreadable garbage.
I can select the desired text and copy it into word but when I paste the text it is pasted like symbols and lines.
I tried Special Paste and does not works. It says the font is a Gill Sans something (with numbers and so on), no really a font it seems but when i change it to Arial i still get symbols.
    Any help or ideas,
    Cheers,
    Sebastian

I have this exact same problem.  It is very frustrating.  How is it not possible to "grab" onto the text in the pdf ??!!
I am looking at it.  I can see it.  I can read it.
I can highlight the individual letters and words with the mouse pointer. (So it's not just a "picture")
With a pdf editor, I can even make the text bold, italic, or increase the font size.
SO WHY CAN'T I COPY THE TEXT!   AAARGH!
No, the file is not protected.
Yes, I have tried saving as different formats.  (The "save as tiff file workaround" idea is  very time consuming and greatly degrades the quallity.)
The font is shown as being: "Arial083.313"
Something in the pdf program is recognizing the text, translating the 1's and 0's (that make up all computer files) into the letters that display on the screen that I can read and select with the mouse. So why can't that same "something" allow me to copy it?  So frustrating.
Somebody please help.  If you can solve this problem you are awesome.

  • Problems highlight, drag and drop text in Microsoft Word from Adobe Free

We work with two screens (monitors), and is open on a document opened from the Adobe (free) (extension. PDF) and other Word (Microsoft). In previous versions of Adobe, you could highlight a word or text and just drag them to the Word, without the need to "copy" and "paste". In this version of the Adobe XI, there is the same possibility, since we're not getting to do as before?

    Hi Rave:
Many thanks for the tip and information. Really, after that there was updated in our system of electronic procedural actions (I work in Federal Court in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil) stopped working the highlight text and drag it to the document from Microsoft Word 2007. Anyway, I believe that the problem is not with Adobe Reader, but our system has been updated.
    Greetings.

  • Copy text from Acrobat Reader to MS Word

I want to copy text from a pdf file into MS Word so I can manipulate the text, but when I use the copy and paste function (or the Select Text tool) it only copies it as a graphic.  What am I doing wrong? Monwall

Probably, the font used isn't installed in your system, and the creator of the PDF file didn't embed it properly.

  • Automatically copy only the unicode-Text from a Word-Document into FM8

In my daily work I often have the problem to copy and paste text from a  Word-Document or other documents into my FrameMaker documents.
The common way is to copy it in Word and "Special Paste" it in FrameMaker 8 as unicode. But this is not as confortable as to shortly hit Ctrl-v on the keyboard.
I would like to have a new menuitem to special paste only the unicode text from the clipbopard. Is there a way to make such a makro and to put it in the menubar with a Key-Trigger?
I read something like that in http://www.rzg.mpg.de/from_external/Frame6_Handbuch/Setting_up_FrameMaker.pdf (german), but I actually don't know what to chage for my case.

Rather than create a new menu item (possible, I gather, but fiddly) I would recommendchanging the default “paste” behaviour.
In the MAKER.INI file there is a line beginning
    ClipboardFormatsPriorities=
Change this to put UNICODE TEXT as the first item.
Ctrl-v will then paste Unicode text by default. You can still access the other options, should you need to, by using Paste Special.
