Very slow day

Hi all,
11.2.0.1
Aix 6.1
Yesterday Jan 15, 2014, we experienced very slow performance in our App. The webpage is hanging or disconnecting often and many transaction were dropped or not processed.
My boss told me to investigate the issue and find the cause. Again this topic is the most unmastered part of my carrier as dba.
There is no solid way I have found for a template for a clear solution. I have gathered 1 week worth of AWR stats reports just to campare baselines because that is what is always heard here.
Given a week awr statistics can you help me how to identify the cause of performance problem yesterday?

Kindly open report in notepad++ as this is in 500 linesize.
Thanks a lot,

I already mentioned the db & OS version above
The application is just 3rd party developed in java.
Yes - but that is just one SMALL part of the info mentioned in that link about how to ask a question. Go back and read it again - especially the part about the info needed for a tuning request.
You also aren't responding to the questions or suggestions others have already posted. Alvaro posted this:
These logs you have provided are completely unformated and next to impossible to read. Why not just post the AWR HTML parts that are interesting? Such as: Time model, Top 5 Waits, Load profile.
Also, a one week AWR report is not very useful in your case. Focus on an AWR derived from the snapshots that make up the period the problem occurred.
The only comment you made was a sarcastic one about the formatting.
Why didn't you comment about the AWR suggestion that was made? If you want responders to help you have to be responsive to their comments. They are trying to help you.
You also never responded to the reply by Gayu0726:
To solve:
Identify the tables which read most.
Create index for the tables.
If index is already there, try to analyze it and gather statistics.
Check whether the index are in usable form.
You marked the reply 'helpful' but never said a word about whether you did those things and what the result was.
Himmy got the same treatment:
If this is an OLTP database can you try gathering stats on all tables of schemas used by the application.
Did you do that? Are the stats current? Why didn't you respond to let us know WHAT you are doing to solve the problem?
In short you seem to be relying on us to solve your problem and haven't provided ANY feedback about what, if anything, you are doing to solve it:
Yesterday Jan 15, 2014, we experienced very slow performance in our App. The webpage is hanging or disconnecting often and many transaction were dropped or not processed.
That's a good start to defining the problem.
My boss told me to investigate the issue and find the cause. Again this topic is the most unmastered part of my carrier as dba.
And it will likely continue to be 'unmastered' until you actually press the keyboard with your fingers and start doing things yourself.
There is no solid way I have found for a template for a clear solution.
If you 'experienced very slow performance' then, by definition, you MUST know that previously the performance was 'faster'.
That means that SOMETHING changed. The 'template' you seek is to determine WHAT CHANGED.
I have gathered 1 week worth of AWR stats reports just to campare baselines because that is what is always heard here.
Ok - so did you actually COMPARE the base lines to see what was different? What did you find was different? Why haven't you posted here and told us what you found that was different?
You have to use a process just like in those picture games for kids where they show two pictures and ask them: find the objects in the two pictures that are different.
Picture #1 - fast performance
Picutre #2 - slow performance
1. What changed between picture #1 and picture #2?
2. Did the amount of data in the tables (which you haven't told us anything about) change?
3. Did the statistics change? Or perhaps no one updated them lately?
4. Did the execution plans of any of the key queries change?
5. and so on, and so on
If you don't have picture #1 you will have a hard time comparing picture #2 to anything.
It is YOUR responsibility to post the information needed to help you. Post the info re stats, tables, execution plans, etc.

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • Hi i cant download any games.. i have internet connection. before i was able to do it but this past few days i cant it says cannot connect to itunes store i didnt update my ipad to ios 7 because it will make my ipad very slow like whT happen to my iphone,

hi i have ipad mini i cant download any games.. i have internet connection. before i was able to do it but this past few days i cant it says cannot connect to itunes store i didnt update my ipad to ios 7 because it will make my ipad very slow like whT happen to my iphone, is that the reason y i cant

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    If no joy...
    Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.

Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Very slow network throughput since 2-3 days ago

I've been having very slow network throughput since 2-3 days ago, with no apparent reason.
I see (from what I can tell) no relevant package updates during that period.
Connections are nfs v3 shares, over UTP cat5e gigabit ethernet.
I've been running this setup for many years now, without such issues.
But now, it's as if throughput is capped around 100Mbps.
Is there a way to see - if for some reason - a network adapter has locked to 100Mbps, instead of 1Gbps?
    ifconfig does not say anything.
PS: netstat -i does not report any errors over the connection.

experiencing the same issue with my wlan0 since update to kernel2.6.38 yesterday night.
Speed tests grant me a download speed of around 50kbps. Should be around some mbit though! How do I find out, why it's acting so slow?
edit: switched to win7 for the moment. Everything is speedy and normal around here. Something is seriously broken in my arch box!
Can this be related to xorg-server1.10.902 or kernel2.6.38? It would also explain the strange issues with pacman lately (like this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116429 or this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116696).
More people seem to experience the network issue: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116738
    Any insights?
edit#2: Just got back from win7. Upload speed in Arch is quite okay. Download speed is extremely fucked though. I wonder why? At least now I know why pacman has problems getting package upgrades, etc.
How do I fix a problem with the wlan0 connection? Haven't had any of those before with gnome and Networkmanager. I'm using the ath9k module.

  • Firefox keeps crashing on me every day at least two or three and it is very slow - what can I do to stop this??

When I turn on my laptop computer to use it, it crashes on me every day at least two or three times before I can use it.
Also, it is very slow such as when I want to scroll down my e-mail list. It stops and shows "loading" for a long period of time so I can't get to my older e-mails.
I didn't know that I was to keep the crash ID when I send crash reports.

Your issue may be caused by Malware. You can run and update the following '''free''' anti virus software:
    1. Malwarebytes (Free version) - http://www.malwarebytes.org
    2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org
    3.Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com
In addition, there are a number of forums you can use to help get rid of your infection. These include:

  • Time Machine Very Slow (321 Days) Please Help!

Hi all, I've got a 2012 MBP and have had problems with TM since day one.
I'm running all the latest software with a brand new Time Capsule and it states that it will take over 300 days to back up.
I originally used a NAS and TM was very very slow along with having to reformat and start again every few weeks so I gave in and got a TC thinking it would solve my problems but it's returned again.
I've tried reformatting, disabling spotlight, wired and wireless connections, different hard drives and still the problem persists. Occasionally it also fails to find the backup disk so I have to reformat and start again.
It's driving me absolutely insane because despite messing and messing, trying different solutions the problem always seems to return at random. It will work great for a week or 2 then it's back to square one.
Can someone please restore my sanity and help?

To update, I got up this morning and it was still stating some 22 days after copying a few gb in 18 hours so I restarted (again). TM then stated it couldn't find the back up disk so I again pointed it to the right disk and it now appears to be stuck again after doing over a gb in a minute or two.
    Here's the info requested.

When I open Mail the fans start up and only stop when Mail closes. This began two days ago.
Previous to that I never had any problems with Mail; but Safari has been very slow on occasions. I don't know if the 2 pbs are linked.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Firefox is working VERY SLOW the last 5 days(Signature: hang | )

in the last 5 days i am experiencing terrible slowness to load firefox and during its function it loads very slow every page i choose.

Speedy Fox does not help this problem. I've installed Firefox 5.0 on all the computers on our network just to get constant complaints that it is extremely slow. And it is. Taking minutes to load a page that IE loads in seconds. Or never loading a page at all. IE, Chrome and even Safari work well, Firefox is shit.
Firefox has been declining for years. Once the best browser in the world, it is now floundering because of crappy programming and untested releases. I've HAD IT with this bullshit and this weekend will remove Firefox from ALL our business computers and install Chrome.
Way to fuck up a perfectly good browser guys.

  • Safari has become very slow the last few days, only on a few programs - google, youtube, wikipedia.  Also mail is slow to send and receive.

Safari and mail have become slow only the last few days.  Mail is slow to send and receive, but e-mails do come through.  Safari is very slow to load on only a few web sites - google, wikipedia, youtube.  But fine on others.
    OS X  10.6.2
    Safari  4.0.3
    Mail   4.2

    Hi Andy...
    safari, Mac OS X (10.6.3)
    10.6.2 / 4.0.3...
Whether you are running Mac OS X 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 your system software is completely outdated.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Your Mac OS X needs to be at v10.6.8 / Safari should be 5.1.7
And make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk to install software updates.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Speed very slow for last 3 days or so.....121kbps ...

M speed is usually 1.5mb been down to about 300 the last few days and dipped now at 121 and just a measly 97 this morning....
done all the usual checks, and i noticed on a local internet forum last night that other is my area are suffering the same too with no explanation from BT
    (my daling code is 01595)
phoned BT...he said there were no faults it must be my end, repeated all the checks including the microfilter, he then said there WAS a problem with outtage and it would be 8 days before my speed was returned to normal....when i questioned this he explained it was cos of a powercut somewhere in the UK for 4 hours?????eh?
he then went on to quiz me if i had selected 1 when i phoned to leave feedback, when i said i had he seemed quite aggitated, quized me more about selecting to leave feedback and told me this effected his performance.
he then told me not to phone BT again for the next 10 days as this would confuse people and it would be an extra week on top of the 8 days i would have to wait for my normal broadband speed.
i am obviously totally disatisfied...i just want to know why my speed is slow and when it will return to normal
    anyone help.???
my dailing code is not on any of the service status pages

i phoned BT again, spent 2 hours on the phone!!! we went through the usual checks etc, this time they
tested the line properly and confirmed they could see i had very slow speed, but couldn't tell me why?
they said they would reset the line and i should see an improvement in 24 to 48 hours and it should return to usual in 8 day?? i still dont understand.....
and its still as slow as 112kbps..as me and partner both rely on internet for our work and training its just painful waiting for this to be solved!!
i just want a clear explantion what is happening/why its happening and when will it be fixed?

Back up is very slow on 2 tb time capsule. After 2 days only 60 gb of 320 gb completed. Have connected ethernet cable. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's terribly slow.  You should get somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-24 GB/hour via Ethernet, assuming there isn't a lot of conflicting network traffic or your Mac's CPU is under very heavy load.
Are you sure you're actually using the Ethernet connection, instead of WIFI?   To check, turn Airport off.  If the backup fails, it's on WIFI.  In that case, you need to set Ethernet as the "preferred" network, via System Preferences > Network.  Click the "gear" icon at the bottom of the sidebar and select Set Service order.  Then drag Ethernet above Airport.  When both Airport and Ethernet are on, that will make OSX select Ethernet over Airport.
If that doesn't help, see #D2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Very slow at same time every day

Normally, my Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5300 works just fine, but at 8:00 every night the whole computer (not just the internet) gets very, very slow. Obviously, there's something that is scheduled to download updates every day at that time. I have Windows and all my non-Toshiba programs set to check for, download, and install updates only manually, so the program that is screwing everything up must be one of the bloatware programs installed by Toshiba. The problem is, I don't know which one or if and how to change the schedule. I have tried going to Task Manager when this happens, but once I finally get it to open, I can only get a quick glimpse of the list of running programs getting shorter by one item. Any suggestions?

If everything slows down, it's more likely a program is scheduled to run. Windows and Toshiba have lots of programs like that in Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc),
When things are slow, open Task Manager (taskmgr.exe - press Ctrl+Shift+Esc). On the Processes tab, click the CPU column title to sort high usage to the top. Tell us which process is hogging things.
