Very slow dynamic sites (ie WordPress)

I've got a 10.4.8 server running several Wordpress installations that all use different mysql databases on another 10.4 server. The load times on the wordpress pages has climbed to the 1-2 minute range on every page load / refresh. It didn't use to be this bad. I've got heavy flash sites on the same web server that load lickety split.
The mysql server and the web server are on the same network, same switch.
I'm looking for suggestions on where to start with tracking down the latency.

Hello Keith,
Are you certain that it is only the mysql and Apache service are experiencing issues? Is there any way you can test the connection between the two servers through another protocol?
One way to sort of gauge the performance might be to log into the mysql service from the apache server and logging into the mysql server, by running something like /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql -h mysqlserverhostnameor-ip -u user -ppassword -D 'database_name', and running a "SELECT * FROM (a really large table)" query and seeing how it goes.
Also, is there any useful info in either of the httpd logs, at /var/log/httpd/?
Once more good luck,
Max

  • Very slow dynamic sites

    Hello,
We use a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerMac G5 Running OS X 10.4 Server as a file server, and I've set up a number of virtual hosts to test websites on.
When I view normal HTML pages they load very quickly, but sites based on PHP and MySQL load really slowly. I've tried Wordpress sites, Joomla, sites and even PHPMyAdmin, and all take at least 8 seconds to load any new page, usually double that long.
I'm using the default installs of PHP and MySQL, and wonder if they need to be upgraded (and if so, how?).
The server is also running Filemaker Server, which I thought may be causing the problem, but shutting that down doesn't help.
I'm new to servers and rather over my head, I've been looking for an answer for weeks with no luck. Hopefully I'm just missing something obvious.
    Hope someone can help!
    Steve

There are many reasons why dynamic sites can be slow.
The first thing to check would be whether it's always slow, or whether it's just slow to start up. Most systems employ some kind of caching to improve performance, but on startup the caches are empty and all the data needs to be loaded from the database. This can take some time, but once loaded the performance should improve.
Since you're using some major packages we can assume for now it's not a code-level problem (which is the commonest cause of performance issues), so the next thing to check is the database itself - has MySQL got sufficient memory to load its tables? Are the database tables correctly indexed?
MySQL's slow query log should give you some idea of queries that are taking a long time to execute and the EXPLAIN command can give some useful clues as to bottlenecks in the database.

  • Internet is very slow on my blackberry curve 8520

    hi

Is there any config needs to be done?
    Pls help.
    Thanks,

have you ever deleted cookies and caches from the phone, if not goto browser, on first page where it says go to scroll down to options>cache operation>and delete cookies and caches(clearing history is probably good too) if this does not work or if you keep your caches clear then as in prior post provide more information

  • Problem: Slow Intranet Sites/Internal DNS Resolution for only AD Users

    Hello,
We are experiencing a very odd problem.
Any and All Active Directory users are experiencing very slow intranet sites.
We are a school corporation, so this is affecting our Student Information System, as it is entirely web-based and locally hosted.
All of our Domain Controllers are Windows Server 2012 R2, with all the latest critical updates.
All client workstations are Windows 8.1 Professional.
The problem occurs with ALL web browsers (IE, Chrome, FF, etc)
All DNS queries respond in <1 ms (no matter whether we are logged in as AD User or local computer user).
If we login as local computer user, we have blazing fast intranet sites/DNS resolution.
If we login as AD user, everything crawls again... every click on the intranet site spins and says loading for up to 15 seconds.
If we add the the intranet site to the local computer HOST file, it is blazing fast, just as if we logged on as local computer user.
If we take it back out of the HOST file, it drags again.
    I am totally stumped!
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    How are DNS settings configured?
If there are any public DNS IP addresses in Preferred or Alternate field, please remove them, then input these DNS entries in the Advanced section. We should only configure Domain Controllers’ IP addresses on Preferred
and Alternate DNS server section for domain-joined machines.

  • HT1498 Apple TV Rented Movies Very Slow to download, Like 2 hrs or more, was around 2-3 min to load and start the movie, Its NOT my provider? as other movies from other sites down load in a short time

    Hi Guys
Over resent weeks the down load time for the Appel TV Gen 3 has gone very slow, To the point that you can not watch the movie as it does but buffer and you have to stop about every 15 mins. I have a fully cable internet at 100mps or more. Other Australian sites down load movies in 2-3 min at worst and often can stat and play thought in 1 min 30 secs.
Apply TV was not like this in fast month to April, But May and June are Not Good

Have you verified speed via speedtest.net ?
Have you checked at different times?
Check istumbler or netstumbler to verify interference
Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic)

Nope. You can always reverse that if you choose.

  • IWeb site very slow

I have created a website with iWeb08 for a local theatre company but my problem with it is that everyone trying to access it tells me it is very very slow and they also have problems with fonts (it looks good on my Mac but terrible on IE). Is there anything that can be done ? I am thinking of re-creating the site with Freeway 4. I generally like iLife'08 but iWeb is a big disappointement for me...

Your download speed is determined by the size of the page file, your server response and the speed of the internet connection of the end user. None of this is an iWeb problem- it applies to all websites no matter what application you use to create them.
If you depart from the web safe Mac/Windows fonts you can't expect them to render correctly in Internet Explorer - the worlds' worst browser.
You can get round this problem by converting your text to an image in iWeb.
To cut your download time you can decrease the size of image and media files and refrain from putting too many on a page. Its a matter of common sense and trial and error.
Optimizing your files before uploading to the server will make your website noticably faster to download.

  • Site manager very slow

I'm using DW8 ver. 8.0.2 and lately when I go to the site
manager to create new or edit a site it's very slow, like DW is not
responding, then it finally goes to the next window. Is there some
bugs in DW8 that need fixing?
Also: I added this topic yesterday and this morning it wasn't
    listed in My Forums. Why?

How many sites do you have? Are the sites all located on the
    computer that
is running DW? Are you running antivirus scans in real time?
    How large are
    the sites?

Do you have multiple keyboard layouts installed?
It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.
    * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258824 - How to change your keyboard layout
Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/The-Language-bar-overview The Language bar (overview)
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application

  • When i open safari it is very slow but once it has opened i can switch web sites very quick, can anyone tell me why.

I have a problem when i open Safari.it takes a few minutes to open, the home page opens but if i try to open ( say Amazon) it just sits there for more minutes before opening ,but once it has opened i can switch from web site to web site very quick.can anyone tell me why this and is there anything i can do to

Try changing the "Top Sites shows:" to the smallest number possible.  Safari is loading these sites when its starts so it can give you an image of what the site looks like when you start blank new window.  A smaller number of sites will make that quicker, assuming the top sites do not have a very slow site in the mix.

  • Very Slow Site Response

    Dear All,
I would like to say thanks for all.
Let me explain our environment first then move on to the queries.
Environment: We have one SharePoint 2013 application VM
windows 2012 server, two web front end VM Windows 2012 server and dedicated SQL physical server.  The SP VM has 2*vCPU (2core) and 16 GB of physical memory, DB has 2*CPU (8core) and 16GB of RAM.  All servers are connected via 1 GB connection.  Intranet
is connected via 100 Mb link and for internet via 5Mbps ISP.
    Farm Configuration:
Both front end servers had Managed metadata service and distributed cache service
Application server had CA (basic service) and managed metadata service, there was no excel, Visio and other service.
Site: We are developed custom webpart and all other stuff
like design at all.  The average page size is 1.5Mb.  The site was extended to intranet and internet (anonymous) zones.  We are already configured BLOB cache, object cache and output cache.
    Clarification & Queries:
While we are doing the load test in intranet site by 300 Concurrent user in the LAN (i.e 100 Mbps). It getting very slow and "Service Unavailable" error.  Please, why
the servers are not supporting 300 concurrent users?
While we are performing the test, the network traffics are received from client (test agent) to WFE and send to DB. Please, Why the page cache and object caches are working or not?
If the site will opened to internet, how the site and server are react to users?
Please give us you needful help.
FYR please look on to the load test summary https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/579571
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sathiya

    1) As a rule of thumb a SharePoint server can support in the region of 100 active users per SharePoint server. 300 is within the realm of expectations, depending on test content and definitions of active. You haven't mentioned the CPU load or the amount
of memory paging you're seeing on the servers during the test. I would expect them to be maxed out on one or more of your servers? Note that RAM load isn't directly helpful as SharePoint is a greedy application and may be using all of it at very low load levels.
    2) Caching reduces the traffic but does not eliminate it. You're looking in the wrong place to see if the page cache is active. From memory you need to examine HTTP headers to verify if page caching is active or not.
    3) In what sense?
    4) No problem.
The link you posted is broken.
Finally you describe this in the title as 'very slow site response' which is not what you're describing in the text (fairly well) which is better described as a lower than hoped level of concurrency. Are you also getting slow response times at lower load?
Really finally: You've posted this in the wrong forum, this is a search specialist sub forum. You would get more notice and assistance in the general forum for this thread. Hopefully a moderator can move it for you...
