Very slow essbase server

Hello guys,
I have a small problem. Our essbase server had gone extremely slow, to the pointwhere a simple datacopy from scenarioA to scenarioB takes 3 mins instead of 30 secs. Copying a database used to be 10 mins, now it's 45 mins.
The server was restarted yet the problem is not resolved. The RAM utilisation is low, no processes running with high memory. So not sure what can I do, I even tried restarting the Essbase services but no luck yet.
Regards,
N13

Is it a virtual server or a Physical Server? I am just trying to get additional information to assist with troubleshooting.
some of the most common issues for slowdowns are:
1. Resource Starvation (this may not be readily apparent on a virtual server where you may not have actual RAM, it may be virtual memory allocated to your VM's RAM - which is devastatingly slow)
2. Fragmentation of your DB. I have seen Essbase DBs slow down by 400%-1000% overnight if many calcs were run, which causes immense fragmentation (hence the avg clustering ratio question)
3. Errant processes running on the essbase server. This should have been rectified by restarting the Essbase server
4. Someone did something to drastically increase the DB size.
If we aren't going to go into details, do a level 0 export, drop all the data, reload it. AGG up the cube, and restart the server/image.
That will fix most of the potential issues.

  • Server Admin runs very slow on Server 10.6.2

After what only could be called a power disaster that brought our XServe down hard, when I run Server Admin on the XServe, it's dog slow...it works, but it takes forever to do anything. However, Server Tools installed on my Macbook runs it just as fast as ever. Does anyone have any suggestions besides reinstalling? As our server is still in the set up stages, a backup of it hadn't been made yet...
    Thoughts anyone?

The usual triggers for this (mis)behavior are a bad local DNS configuration within whatever is serving your local DNS, and potentially a firewall issue within the client.
If you've not messed around with your client firewall settings since this last worked, I'll bet on scrozzled DNS.
Verify your forward and reverse DNS translations and the correctness of your local DNS server set-up using the dig tool.
[My DNS notes|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436]; the set-up and verification of DNS on Snow Leopard Server.
As for auxiliary power, APC SMART-UPS 1500 series is a reasonable option for a less-interruptable power supply (LIPS) for an Xserve box and its usual array of companion direct-attached accouterments. And the USB connection from this model is recognized and honored by Mac OS X Server without add-on software; the box will shut down. (I'd look at adding LIPS capacity if you have a FC SAN and Xserve RAID or such, though.)

  • Operation very slow, Mini Server

    Dear all,
my MAC Mini Server takes for each and every operation minutes instead of seconds and currently the updates will end with a failure (All updates could not be proceeded)
    Any suggestion to this ?!
    Thanks for all help,
    Joshua

Volume corruptions and failing disk storage hardware can also cause slowness, but it's not clear what sort of errors you're encountering here.
If you're seeing hardware or I/O errors reported by the Disk Utility repair-volume mechanism, then I'd suggest getting an immediate backup of your (potentially failing?) disk, using Disk Utility, to an external storage device; to a USB disk or similar.  Best to get a copy now, should this actually be a hardware failure in progress.
Some number of (correctable) file-protection errors from repair-permissions mechanism is unfortunately somewhat normal for an OS X or OS X Server system, and — if Disk Utility can resolve those ownership or protection settings online or possibly after a reboot and running Disk Utility via the recovery partition — are not usually a problem.
If you're not sure what you're looking at with those errors, then some more details on what was done within Disk Utility (permissions?  volume verification?) and a few more details of the particular errors that were reported, would possibly be useful.

  • Weblogic 11g on Windows - very slow admin server start

    Hello,
It takes upwards of 15 minutes to fully start the admin server on my Windows box. I have read that it's a bug in the Java security random number/crypto api.
There are various work arounds for the Linux environments, but no mention of Windows. I realize that I'm in a small minority of admins running WLS on Windows, but does anybody have experience in setting the Java security stuff so the servers do not take soooooo darn long to startup?
    JDM

    Hi ,
I think it would be better to post this question in the Weblogic - General forum for WLS specific troubleshooting tip : WebLogic Server - General
Having said that get the thread dump for WLS server start up using kill -3 <pid> command or using jstack -l <pid> .
Post the question and the thread dumps to the above mentioned forum .
In my case the start up time is less than a minute .

  • Essbase Cluster COPYAPP very slow

    Hello,
I set the Essbase cluster version 11.1.2, and when I trying to copyapp using esscmd it very slow compare to preveouse version none weblogic v11
on version 11 copy application 1.2GB take 3 min
on new version 11.1.2 copy application takes more then 10 min
what could be wrong that I set, or area that I can take look
    thank you,

    Hi Prateek ,
First and best way to see what is happening with this particular node would be to set the following trace sections with full verbose tracing :
    folders*,requestaudit,systemdatabase,socketrequest
With these tracing sections set access from DIS 2nd node and wait till the final results come .
Once either the folders show up or operation times out navigate to View server output and refresh the section , capture the logs to see if there is any particular section that creates this bottleneck .
Also check how good is the connection from DIS to the second node host machine ? That also might create a specific issue like this .
    Thanks,

  • CQ5 server performance is very slow ?

    Hello,
I deployed my project on publish server, but both the server responding very slow, Is it the CQ5 server the very slow?
Please let me know how to make more faster performance of CQ5 server, please let me know is there any configration we have to do?
For showing the page around it takes 10min, how to solve such issues.
Please let me know any perfoamance tuning guide/tricks.
    Regards,
    Satish

For starters answers to a few questions would help:
    1. What kind of hardware config is in place? (RAM, disk-space)
    2. Which OS are you running instances? Are both author and publish on same machine?
    3. Have you checked error logs?
From the problem description you have provided 1st seems to be the main issue.

  • Remote Desktop To Windows Server Very Slow

I have OS X 10.6 running on a MBP and a problem that seems to be growing worse over time. I am using Remote Desktop (both CoRD and Microsoft Remote Desktop) to gain access to remote servers. One is a Windows Server 2008, the others are Windows Server 2003. Initially all was fine, but over the last 2 months access to the W2K server has crawled to a halt. Now, when accessing the other servers I'm having the same issue. I have tried different clients for remote access, used different high speed Internet connections (FIOS, a private network) and the result is the same. Very, very slow connections.
I have also tried using a different login on the laptop to no avail.
I booted Windows on my MBP using Parralels Desktop and tried using Windows RDC to the same servers; that works fine. In fact, I can access the servers very quickly using my iPhone's Remote Access software using the same Internet connection (home WiFi) as my MacBook Pro.
So I can only assume it's an issue with OS X 10.6, since different devices using the same Internet connection can make a much faster connection. But I can't find any similar posts on the issue.
    Any ideas are appreciated!

  • Mail, Server Admin, MySQL running very, very slow

    Hi all,
I have this Leopard Server on a Mac Mini and I experience some big bottlenecks on mail services (especially webmail), Server Admin connections (both local and remote), and also connections with mySQL clients (remote). Local MySQL is working fine. It is not the same for mail and Server Admin. They are very slow also for local connections. Any idea? Hint: I'm using a USB-ethernet adapter (from Apple) for my public IP's (I have 2 of them) and I use built-in ethernet for local network. I've switched them, I tried only with the built-in ethernet... no change. Please help... my enthusiasm about this server solution is getting lower and lower... Thank you very much

    pterobyte wrote:
Have a look at system.log and mailaccess.log for clues to begin with.
Server Admin is usually slow (locally and remotely) when the DNS (forward and reverse) setup is not correct.
Since mySQL seems to have only problems when used remotely, I'd look at bandwidth, routers and switches involved.
Is mail only slow when used via webmail or via any IMAP client?
    You're a genius as usually
It seems that I removed my reverse zone accidentally... I didn't even think to look at DNS setting before you told me... Thank you very much

  • Serial Port communication very slow in RDP on windows server 2012

Hellò, we have installed a new server 2012 and connected some thinclients via RDP, since that moment all peripherals connected to the imported com ports of the thinclients are running very slow, for example the cash register issue any receipt only after
15-20 seconds!!. We have try to connect via RDP also a personal computer with many other OS like windows 8, windows 7, or XP but the result is the same: 15-20 seconds for a receipt!! We solve the problem only changing the server 2012 with a old server
2008 or 2003!. How is possible window server 2012 is so slow on RDP imported com ports??. There is something to set for speed up the com ports on rdp? For us this is a great problem, all of our customers are using cash register via RDP and they can't wait
all this time for a receipt. For your information we have tried to connect the cash register to the same com port of the same thinclient to the same server 2012 without RDP and the issue of the receipt is fast, so the problem is something on RDC of the new
OS windows Server 2012. Also note this is a bi-directional communication because the cash register use a bi-directional communication for printing each one of the voice on the receipt, this problem wll not affect other printers unidirectional where the
print process starting in less one second. Please help us to solve this problem, otherwise we will not more install windows server 2012.

    Hi,
Thanks for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
When the slow performance issue occurs on server 2012, check the Windows Logs – Application category of the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) on both the client and server sides. If there is any logs recorded, please let us know them. Please also check the
driver is properly installed on server and check the compability guide with the cash register machine, whether it support server 2012 with remote session. If there is particular requirement then you need to solve them first.
In addition, would like you to try connecting with RDP 8.1 and check whether it faces same issue.

  • Crystal Reports Moved from one file server to another - very slow opening

    Hello,
I am new here, and I am in need of a solution. If I am not in the correct forum, please advise.
Our crystal reports were moved from an old file server to a new file server.  Once the old file server was shut down the reports opened very slow in Designer and in our 3rd party application.  Our server team determined that the reports are still attempting to connect to the old file server.  If the old file server is brought online or dns is changed to reflect another machine that it can make a connection to, it opens with no delay.
For some reason, not every report is affected.  Most of the reports are Crystal 8.5, but I have some Crystal XI reports that do the same thing.  I can't find any reference in the reports to any file server/location....
I need to resolve this issue on the Crystal 8.5 version due to the application that we are running.
Is there a way to fix this other than to recreate the reports (I have over 400 of them)?
Any assistance or advice is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Nancy,
The server info still needs to be updated. Are you setting location for each subreport also?
Possibly this registry key will help, I only have CR 2008 installed so you'll have adjust for what ever you are using:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - VerifyStoredProceduresOnFirstRefresh = No
    and
    VerifyStoredProceduresOnSetLocation = No
    And
    VerifyWhenDBDriverUpgraded = No
    And
    ViewOutOfPlaceSubreports = No
Close CR designer before making any changes. And the usual warning about modifying the registry.
    Thank you

  • It's very slow to access file server after installed SP1 of Win7.

I found it's become very slow to access shared files on file server after installed win7 SP1, (windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe),  access same file, the win7 without sp1 is fast in 5 secs, but the pc with sp1 need more than 30 secs. And
I tried to removed the sp1, everything goes fine, access fast as others.
I don't understand what's the reason and which feature affected it, I believe the sp1 can help Win7 be more safety, but why the performance on it get worse.
And I didn't find the same question or tips on forum or website, do you really haven't the issue?
