Very slow file download speeds

Whenever my computer is trying to load movies or download files, the speed at which they download is extremely slow.
On a file I'm currently downloading, the average speed is around 120 kB/s, and I'm lucky if I can get it up to 20. Also, movies, like in YouTube, take at least ten minutes to download, even if the movie is only a few minutes long.
Obviously, this is very frustrating, especially because I haven't always had this problem.
My surfing speed is fine, it's a bit slow but I'm not complaining, I just hope someone has a solution to this slow downloading problem?

I was going to agree and say, yeah let's blame it on Vuze or the file, but that doesn't explain why the YouTube videos, along with any videos on any other site, download so slow.
How would I go about restarting the modem (I have 2Wire at my house)? And is there a chance that would help? I wasn't sure because of the fact that my other computers are fine, but it's worth a shot.

  • Very slow iTunes download speeds

    I've been having slow download speeds in iTunes for a while now. Downloading a 1 hour TV Show used to take 1 hour or so. Now it's taking 11 hours. Xfinity speed tests say I'm getting 28 mb/s downloads.
    Some info:
    iTunes 10.6 for Windows
    Apple Air Extreme - the pc is hard wired to the router
    Comcast as ISP
    Using my ISP's DNS servers

    I have a 50x5 Mbit cable business class modem, from Time Warner, in my house (doing that give me priority bandwidth over other residences).... Also as a business class there's no data caps or port blockings.  The most I EVER get from the iTunes Store is 4-5MBytes/sec (about 35 Mbits)... Usually I get 1-2 MBytes/sec to iTunes or any device
    My guesses are
    1) Apple just doesn't have the bandwidth during certain times
    2) I notice they throttle accounts. If I download an entire hd season, I start out fast, then it slows after a few hrs... Im guessing apple has a max data cap per day then slows you down.
    3) I also don't think Apple is capable of handling all the new 35-50Mbit connections that are now readily available from the big cable companies.

  • Very Slow LTE download Speeds..

    Hello all..I live in Bridgeport Connecticut, and i own a Galaxy nexus 4G LTE...I'm curious as to why i get such slow download speeds with my Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus Download speeds becomes extremely apparent compared to My sisters Iphone 5 ..I did 15 speed tests on both device The Galaxy Nexus and the Iphone 5.The iPhone got between 12-16 MBPS..My nexus got as low as 1.6 MBPS, and seemed to average around 2.4 MBPS..the highest was 3.9 MBPS. I used the speedtest.net android app and the servers etc were all the same..The nexus runs the stock jellybean firmware.
    I love the nexus. However, i feel cheated that the iphone 5 gets about 500-600% higher download speeds..I think something software wise if holding the nexus back from acheive true LTE speeds available in this area.

    Looking at forums today to see if this was reported and if there is a remedy. I share tino4342's problem and I live clear across the country in Snohomish, Washington. At a given spot in my home, my Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 (locked) gets 2 mbps download speed while a Verizon iPhone 5 sitting next to my GN gets around 12 mbps, both tested using speedtest.net. In various other spots around town, the iPhone 5 download speed is at least 5 times faster than the Galaxy Nexus (both on Verizon).
    This is absolutely not cool.  I chatted with Verizon chat service and they said the LTE antenna on iPhone 5 was better. That has to be the biggest bogus point I've heard since the protocols they use should be the same and yield the same output. It has to be the placement of LTE Antenna in the Galaxy Nexus which is blocking the signal.  I think Verizon should come up with some sort of remedy/partial refund for selling LTE phone that isn't! or if the hardware is faulty, they need to own up to it and replace it. Looking forward to a Verizon response on this issue.

  • Upload speed very slow, but download speed fast.

    I have a wrtp54g router (4 wired, 1 wireless and 2 voip). On my laptop with wireless connection I have a fast down and upload speed. But on my PC with wired connection, I have a faster download connection and almost no upload connection. Tested on testmy.net. Can someone help me?

    Thanks for you're reply.
    I've 1 wired PC and a XBOX360 wired. But I tested the same wired connection of my PC with my laptop --> same problem. I also tested the different ports on my router with my PC --> same problem. I recently discovered that when I only use 1 wired connection port on my router, my PC (disconnected my XBOX and also my 2 useless connections (which used to be plugged in to connect in different rooms of my house). I have a faster upload (1.2 MB) speed then before (0.2MB), it doesn't matter which port I use on my router. But still slower then my wireless connection (1.6MB).
    Offcourse, last night worked everthing fine when I wanted to adjust the MTU settings. 1.7 MB upload with the different MTU settings and al my ports filled with connections.

    Hi Jdentremont,
    Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
    the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
    deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
    To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
    You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Very slow video downloading from iTunes

    I have a FIOS 75Mbit connection (and get can 75Mbit on my N-router and Macbook Pro's WIFI).  But my new 1080p Apple TV is another matter. Two minute trailers take longer than 2 minutes to download. Half hour HD TV shows can take 90 minutes to download! And if I try to watch a movie I rented, Apple TV tells me it'll be ready to watch in "about 5 hours".
    So my immediate reaction is ***. Any ideas why my wireless performance is so great with my MBP and so terrible with my AppleTV (just 10 feet away)

    I stumbled across this thread looking for help with the same issue...slow to very slow movie downloads from iTunes.
    Changing the DNS, both on my iMac as well as my Airport Extreme router helped.
    I'm on Comcast and generally get around 33Mbps downloads via speedtest.net.  Based on several Namebench tests Google's Public DNS (8.8.8.8) has always been on top and I've always configured my router and Macs using the top 3 Namebench recommendations with Google at #1 position.  However while downloading movies from iTunes Activity Monitor showed very sharp "Data received/sec" rises and falls...anywhere from 4.40MB/sec to 100KB/sec or sometimes zero.  Most of the time it would start off well, but trail off to very poor and sporatic speeds after about 30 seconds.
    Per finaleMile's and other's recommendations elsewhere I removed Google Public DNS from the settings on my router and iMac and things improved with respect to stability.  Although the "top speed" of about 4.40Mbps didn't improve, downloads did smooth out and remain between about 2.30Mbps to 4.10Mbps during the entire download.  Not speedy but a marked improvement in stability and overall download time.
    Thanks for the tip!
    BTW, I've found that during regular web surfing, using Google's Public DNS is faster so I re-add it after downloading movies from iTunes.  It's a bit of a PIA, but worth it.  Wish there were a better option though.
    FWIW I tend to download rented and purchased movies to iTunes on my iMac and then play them back via my Apple TV3 rather than "stream" them directly from iTunes.  That way if there are external network problems they won't have a negative impact on our viewing experience.

  • Safari is now VERY slow after downloading Lion

    My Safari (which is the latest version) is now VERY slow after downloading Lion.  It takes forever for anything to load, and some pages don't load at all anymore.  Any way to fix this?  It is very frustrating!

    I've just made a change to try to keep the wifi from crashing and it also seems to give me a speed boost online.
    Go into your System Preferences, choose Network, and then in that dialog box choose "Advanced..."
    Once there, select the DNS tab.
    Click the plus sign and add the following to your list of DNS servers:
    8.8.8.8
    It's Google's public DNS and seems to have fixed both the dropping and speed issues.

  • Slow wifi download speeds on 3gs??

    Is anyone else experiencing slow wifi download speeds?? I upgraded from a first gen iPhone to the 3gs & the first thing I noticed was downloading stuff from iTunes, app store, or YouTube, Takes forever!! Example... If I put both of my phones side by side, both connected to wifi, start downloading a 36 mb podcast at the same time, my first gen iPhone will finish the file in about 2 mins and my new 3gs will take anywhere from 8 to 10 mins. Is there a problem with the 3.0 firmware or is the problem just my phone?? Any help would be much appreciated!!

    I'v been dealing all day on this issue, I upgraded to the 3GS model and my wife still has the 3g, I don't have the fastest network at my house (1.5 meg) but her phone is coming in about 1021kbps and mine is 241, which seem like a big difference, especially when trying to view youtube, apple store just gave me a new phone, and it still has the same problem. I reset it, restored it, replaced it, and after replacing it I did not restore from backup but still have the same issue. I do access internet via a time capsule for whatever thats worth, and I also checked with tech support about that being the problem and we found that to not be the problem. *****, I paid $300 and committed to AT&T for another 2 years, for internet at a quarter of the speed...

  • My MacBook pro continues to be very slow after downloading Yosemite. It keeps referring to MacBook Pro (2). It's like there are two version running side by side. Any ideas?

    My MacBook pro continues to be very slow after downloading Yosemite. It keeps referring to MacBook Pro (2). It's like there are two version running side by side. Any ideas?
    It is now running Yosemite 10.10.1. I seem to have plenty of memory but the machine still runs slower than before installing Yosemite. Excel has a very noticeable lag when opening and loading files.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply. I ran through the various steps as suggested including resetting the SMC.
    I would say that there was about a 10% improvement. Although one of the icons still bounced for the count of 40
    I'm still wondering why from the About this Mac, then System Report. it refers to my name MacBook Pro (2).
    All the various problems seem to have started with the upgrade to Yosemite.

  • Very very slow to download gmail in mail APP iPad

    As I wrote in the title, in the last days, from when I updated iOS 7.04, I've some problem with the mail app in iPad 3rd gen.
    With the account gmail: it's very very very slow to download the emails.
    First of all, I reset the iPad, but nothing.
    So, I deleted the gmail account and set up it again... but nothing.
    So, what's the problem: Gmail? Mail APP in iOS 7.04? Both? And how can I resolved it?
    Thank you very much for yours replay. Best regards.

  • Very very slow file access iSCSI NSS on SLES11/XEN/OES11

    Hi,
    Like many Novell customers while carrying out a hardware refresh we are moving off traditional Netware 6.5 to OES11 and at the same time virtualising our environment.
    We have new Dell Poweredge 620 serves attached by 10gig iSCSI to Equalogic SAN
    Installed SLES will all patches and updates and XEN and then created OES11 SP2 virtual machines, these connect to NSS volume by iSCSI
    Migrated files from traditional netware server to new hardware and stated testing and ran into very very slow files access times
    A 3.5mb pdf file takes close to 10 minutes to open from local PC with Novell Client installed, same if no client and open via cifs. Opening same file off traditional NW6.5 server takes 3-4 seconds.
    We have had a case open with Novell for almost 2 months but they are unable to resolve.
    To test other options we installed VMWare ESXi on the internal usb flash drive and booted off that, created same OES11 VM and connected to NSS on SAN and same pdf open in seconds.
    The current stack of SLES11/XEN/OES11 is not able to be put into production
    Any ideas where the bottleneck might be? We think is in XEN.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    As also mentioned in the SUSE forums, there is the option of using the Equallogic Hit Kit. One of the tools, next to the great autoconfigure options it has, is the eqltune tool.
    Some of the stuff that I've found important:
    -gro is known read performance killer. Switch if off on the iSCSI interfaces.
    - if possible (meaning you have decent hardware), disable flowcontrol as this generally offers stability but at the cost of performance. If your hardware is decent, this form of traffic control should not be needed.
    -To have multipath work correctly over iSCSI and starting SLES 11 SP1. Make sure kernel routing and arp handling are set correctly (not directly relevant if you only have 1 10 GB link):
    net.ipv4.conf.[iSCSI interfaceX name].arp_ignore = 1
    net.ipv4.conf.[iSCSI interfaceX name].arp_announce = 2
    net.ipv4.conf.[iSCSI interfaceX name].rp_filter = 2
    Test if traffic is actively routed over both iSCSI interfaces:
    ping -I [iSCSI interfaceX name] [iSCSI Group IP EQL]
    -Make sure network buffers etc are adequately set as recommended by Dell (set in /etc/sysctl.conf):
    #NetEyes Increase network buffer sizes for iSCSI
    net.core.rmem_max = 16777216
    net.core.wmem_max = 16777216
    net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = 8192 87380 16777216
    net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = 4096 65536 16777216
    net.core.wmem_default = 262144
    net.core.rmem_default = 262144
    -Settings for the /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf I'm using:
    node.startup = automatic # <--- review and set according to environment
    node.session.timeo.replacement_timeout = 60
    node.conn[0].timeo.login_timeout = 15
    node.conn[0].timeo.logout_timeout = 15
    node.conn[0].timeo.noop_out_interval = 5
    node.conn[0].timeo.noop_out_timeout = 5
    node.session.err_timeo.abort_timeout = 15
    node.session.err_timeo.lu_reset_timeout = 20 #Default is 30
    node.session.err_timeo.tgt_reset_timeout=20 #Default is 30
    node.session.initial_login_retry_max = 12 # Default is 4
    node.session.cmds_max = 1024 #< --- Default is 128
    node.session.queue_depth = 128 #< --- Default is 32
    node.session.iscsi.InitialR2T = No
    node.session.iscsi.ImmediateData = Yes
    node.session.iscsi.FirstBurstLength = 262144
    node.session.iscsi.MaxBurstLength = 16776192
    node.conn[0].iscsi.MaxRecvDataSegmentLength = 131072 #A lower value improves latency at the cost of higher IO throughput
    discovery.sendtargets.iscsi.MaxRecvDataSegmentLeng th = 32768
    node.session.iscsi.FastAbort = No # < --- default is Yes
    -Have Jumbo frames configured on the iSCSI interfaces & iSCSI switch.
    If you are using multipathd instead of the dm-switch provided with the Equallogic Hit kit, make sure the /etc/multipath.conf holds the optimal settings for the Equallogic arrays.
    Ever since Xen with SLES 11 SP1 we have been seeing strong performing virtual servers. We still use 1GB connections (two 1GB connections for each server, serving upto 180~190Mb/s).
    There could be a difference with the 10GB setup, where multipath is not really needed or used (depending on the scale of your setup). One important thing is that the iSCSI switches are doing their thing correctly. But seeing you've already found better results tuning network parameters on the Xen host, seems to indicate that's ok.
    Cheers,
    Willem

  • Apple tv very slow to download, this has only just begun

    we have been using the apple tv for quite a long time and recently we just updated it to the latest version of the software.
    Since doing this the apple tv is very very slow to download anything. we are currently trying to watch a program and it suggests 1 hour 30 mins before we can do so. we used to be able to watch instantly!!!
    any ideas how to fix?

    Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
    Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

    It's a coincidence. Verify interference using istumbler and try Ethernet

  • Very slow music download with iTunes match on iOS devices

    For some time now I experience very slow performance downloading music with iTunes match on my iOS devices.
    Downloading music takes ages now. Not so long ago download music with iTunes match was as fast as buying music from the iTunes Store.
    I tried to restore my iPhone but nothing changed.
    The download itself is quite fast but after that the blue progress bar is full and the statut is "en cours" (french) something like busy/ongoing in english . The other tracks have a status wating;
    Any idea how to solve the issue?
    Thanks

    Same here. It seems to be better when the device has been set up from scratch. A delete and restore does not the trick. So I learned to live with it

  • All my pdf files are very slow to download, scroll down and/or read.

    I am having difficulties opening any pdf files as it is very slow, does not scroll down easily and just plain cumbersome.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  Additionally, as soon as I want to open the file, the fan on the cpu starts.  I am not sure if they are related, but it just happens all the time.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Sharam

    Have you verified speed via speedtest.net ?
    Have you checked at different times?
    Check istumbler or netstumbler to verify interference
    Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic)
