Very Slow Firefox

Hi! I have recently been experiencing problems with Firefox - new tabs take ages to appear, navigating through tabs is a drag, videos do not play properly, typing is very slow, the thinking ball appears randomly etc. By now I am quite frustrated, especially since deleting cache and cookies twice, or restarting my Mac twice did not seem to help. Performance improves for a bit, but then is back to its slow self. I ran EtreCheck (output below), but do not know how to decrease its process memory usage (if that is the problem). Finally, this has never happenned before.
Thanks a lot guys!

EDIT: Oh, and you have very little free RAM and lots of Page Outs. So, in fact, first thing to do is to simply restart and only have FF open and test.
First thing to do is to start FF in Safe Mode and see how it's working. This will temporarily disable all Add-ons and use a clean Profile. If it's running OK there, then it's time to look at your Add-ons to find a culprit, or start with a new clean Profile.
Hold down the Option (alt) key when opening FF.
You should also get rid of the steam clean thing. Those cleaning programs, if that's what this thing is, are dangerous and not needed.

  • Flash player terminal server Nomachine very slow firefox 3.0.3

    Hello all,
I have a serious problem which i cannot reolve by myself.
When using firefox 3.0.3 and flash 9.0.124 and 10 in a
terminal server environment with bandwidth limit to 320k firefox is
slowing down because of the limit in bandwidth.
The terminal server software caps the bandwidth usage because
we run an controlled internet environment for our business safety
and there are more then 3000 users logged in so the bandwith should
    be capped for performance reasons.
When i play a flash movie from youtube or visiting sites like
    http://www.derbauer.de then the
terminal server software just tels the software that it cannot
process that much bandwidth so the application slows down.
Now i have off course multiple options:
1 disabling flash (not very nice to users)
2 raise the limit (less users in our environment or more
    costs for extra hardware)
3 asking Nomachine to drop frames are do something fancy with
    it.
4 make an option in the flash plugin to say play this video
with only 1 frame per second
The last isn't very nice for people either but flash
applications still work only viewing flash video's is not as good
    as people want.
What are your thoughts on this?
    With kind regards
    William van de Velde

  • How do I fix a very slow Firefox browser often resulting in "Server Not Found"?

The browser is super slow, saying 'problem loading page' and ends up showing the 'Server not found' message. Eventually I'm able to access a website after highlighting the website address and hitting enter, maybe several times. My computer is new and have made minimal changes until this problem is resolved. Problem affects e-mail, too.

    I think this is not a Firefox's bug/error.
This is I think generated from the back-end SQL syntax of the site, which means the site created this error message, not Firefox.
You may contact the site-owner and tell them about this error message, so they may know & fix this error.

  • Very slow firefox startup

    hello,
I had had the problem that Firefox took much time (a minute or so) to start up. I followed the advice [http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2009/07/workaround-for-firefox-3-5-slow-startups-on-windows/ in this article] (which suggests clenaing history and temporary folders), but it didn't help. There were also various other problems, such as Firefox not running smoothly, update failures, weird error messages involving locked files and WinSXS (?!).
But then I noticed that under Add-Ons, there were several "Java Console" versions installed (Java Console 6.0.21, 6.0.20, 6.0.19 and so on). I uninstalled all but the latest one and it seems to have gotten much better now. Also, I uninstalled (actually, disabled, because it didn't let itself be uninstalled) that dotNet stuff.
tl;dr: as I cannot judge whether it is only me, whether others have this problem, whether Java Console even had anything to do with it, would someone more knowledgeable than myself please bring this to the attention of whomever it may concern (developers, knowledge base authors, who ever) if s/he thinks that Java Console (or, more accurately, the strange update process which leaves several versions installed alongside one another) may indeed be the culprit. But at any rate, it seems that uninstalling all but the latest version did the trick for me and Firefox now starts in a jiffy:)
    Regards,

Open your firewall program. Make sure that it's set to tell you when an
application tries to access the web. Then check out the list of programs
the firewall knows about. Make sure that all programs you want to access
the web are set to '''Allow''', not '''Auto'''. Auto may not allow access.

  • Since upgrading to 6.0 this morning my internet is very slow, Firefox keeps crashing and will not shut down.

See the above question. Is my operating system 10.6.8 unable to handle the new upgrade and should I go back to the previous Firefox and Adobe Flash I was previously using. I never had these problems before and now every time I use my internet today, I am having major problems.

about:crashes only lists crashes that you have reported using the [[Mozilla Crash Reporter]] which comes up after a crash. Because there are so many possible reasons for a crash, getting the crash ID really helps volunteers find the cause quicker.
That doesn't mean we can't help without a crash id. :-) No crashes here, but I'm also on Snow Leopard and using Firefox 3.6.6.
Are you using Firefox 3.6.6? The most common cause of crashes on Mac is the Flash plugin. Are you using the latest version of Flash? You can check at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
Do you remember any specific circumstances about when the crash occurred? What sites you were on?

Any suggestions on how to speed up IE8 as it is our prefered browser?
I've tried to set TOOLS...INTERNET OPTIONS...ADVANCED...http1.1 settings on and off as suggested by someone on the forum but the results are unpredicitble.

    Hello Paul,
I think we are now in a similiar situation as you had a year ago, and I was wondering if you could provide me with some insight.
We are currently running on 10g with Apex 3.2.1 and are working on upgrading to 11g, and not upgrading Apex (staying at 3.2).
Did you run into any issues when upgrading to 11g? Did anything need to be done on the Apex side to support it? Or are they totally independent?
    Thanks!

  • Updated to firefox 4.0. since then my computer is very slow accessing the internet, websites and getting information from within a website.

Over a week ago I updated my computer to Firefox 4.0. Since then my computer is very slow accessing the internet, websites and getting information from within a website. Also, a tool bar has shown up for YAHOO which I did not request. The old detailed tool bar for Firefox has disappeared. All that now shows for Firefox is the area to enter website urls and an area to enter topic for a Google Search.
Many times I have to exit Firefox and re-enter it later to access the internet.
Please advice what I need to do to get back to the speed I had with the older version of Firefox.
    Thank You,
    Dennis

  • Gmail performance is very slow in Firefox 4.

Gmail performance is very slow in Firefox 4 and much slower when compared to performance in Firefox 3.6.x After clicking a button within the Gmail interface (e.g. refresh, opening an email, sending an email etc.) there is a noticeable wait time in Firefox 4. In Firefox 3.6 and actually in any/all previous versions of Firefox, this was not the case. Using same machine for Firefox 4 as I was for Firefox 3.x. Dell Inspiron Laptop E6400, Dual core Intel 2 GHz, 3.5 GB RAM, 80 GB free HDD space, 32-bit Windows XP SP3. Gmail is set to use HTTPS always.

    Hi GoldMoon,
    (1)
Refer to your last posting, seems that you've created index which wouldn't help your query performance.
You need to create index from the field which supplied from your 'WHERE' condition. So if I follow your initial posting in this thread, your index should contains:
    - BUKRS (which will be compared with your company variable)
    - PRCTR (which will be compared with your s_prctr variable)
    - GJAHR (which will be compared with your s_year variable)
    - HKONT (which will be compared with your glcode value in your it_final[])
    - BUDAT (which will be compared with your s_budat range/select option.
And to follow the BSIS field order, the above index field need to be arranged as follow
    - BUKRS
    - HKONT
    - GJAHR
    - BUDAT
    - PRCTR
    (2).
Try not to use 'INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS' as it will increase table-memory overhead, but use 'INTO' and make sure the field list and internal table fields is in the same order.
So, once the index has been created, and 'INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS' has been changed to 'INTO' your selection should looks like this:
    IF NOT it_final[] IS INITIAL.
    SELECT bukrs
              hkont
              augdt
              augbl
              zuonr
              gjahr
              belnr
              buzei
              budat
              werks
              kostl
              aufnr
              shkzg
              dmbtr
              prctr
        FROM bsis
         INTO TABLE it_bseg
          FOR ALL ENTRIES IN it_final
    WHERE bukrs eq company
        AND hkont eq it_final-glcode
        AND gjahr eq s_year
        AND budat in s_budat
        AND prctr eq s_prctr.
    ENDIF.
    Hope it helps

  • Firefox 12 is very slow to load pages and if two tabs are opening it lags.

Firefox 12 is very slow to load pages and if two tabs are opening it lags. I've tried everything (e.g virus, defrag, I've created a new profile in "run", etc). I've had my router/line etc all checked and after 2 weeks of cleaning/testing etc its all pointing to Firefox as the problem. Please help as it's driving me nuts.

I have the exact same problem.
Not only does it load pages very slowly, sometimes the page will stop for a good 45 seconds and stop loading, only to finish it much later.
Something is wrong with Firefox 12, it shouldn't be this slow.
How is that each version is progressively worse than the one before it?.
Stop releasing so many versions Mozilla, release one that works and build from there.

Since download of Firefox Hello my home desktop & laptop, both on Windows 7, are very slow to open. I have refreshed firefox, removed download history and turned off the anti virus software in extensions. All the plugins are up to date. Can we revert back to Firefox without Firefox Hello?

Firefox Hello is simply a wrapper for technology already in Firefox, it doesn't negatively impact performance if you aren't using it. Are you saying that your entire computer is slow or just Firefox?

RE: "P.S. I  found it aggravating that I couldn't copy and paste text  here, it wanted me to insert as a link or an image, how do you insert plain  text?"
I take it you tried using the "right click" menu?   That doesn't seem to work, as you noted, but, you should be able to paste text by pressing your CTRL key  and while holding it down, press the "V" letter  key.
    CTRL + C = COPY
    CTRL + X = CUT
    CTRL + V = PASTE

  • My firefox is running very slow and crashes and the curcular thing at the top keeps spinning

    Hi,
Recently my firefox has been running very slow. Its take long to browse all websites and sometimes it takes really long when the circular thing at the top left hand corner keeps spinning.
When that happens; if I click on the page the screen goes white and then says that firefox is not responding so I close it however if I just leave it at the white screen firefox comes back to normal.
Also I noticed when I am using firefox my connection has gone really slow. I have disabled most plug ins im not using and also uninstalled some programs I was not using anymore on my Dell Inspiron 530S. I also have AVG Free Edition and have done a full virus scan. I think I might have spyware or malware on my computer so today I purchased Adaware Pro and am now running a full system scan so hopefully that solves the problem as I have been told that spyware can slow down a computer.
Your help in this matter would be really appreciated.
    Thank you
    Yusuf

An easy try would be to clear the cache, sometimes a bad page will be loaded there and each time you go back to the page it uses the cached page. [[How to clear the cache]] Another issue is Anti-virus software doing constant sweeps of the pages you are trying to view.

  • Firefox is very slow, doesn't look right and all history and bookmarks gone

This happened just after I installed a proprietary software that I needed for work.
When I launched Firefox afterwards, I realized that all of my bookmarks and history was gone. The websites were loading very slow. My Firefox sync configuration settings were gone.
Also, when I search Google and put the cursor over the links that appear, the cursor usually turns to a hand symbol. Now it turns to a text cursor (like an I). The links are usually colored blue, but now they are colored black.
I'm using Chromium instead of Firefox now, and it appears to be working OK.
Tried disabling all the addons. Didn't work. Then uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. No luck. Uninstalled Firefox, deleted all folders containing "firefox" as part of the name in "/usr/lib", and re-installed Firefox. Didn't work.
Maybe the proprietary software that I installed altered the user permissions to some folder so Firefox is not able so access them? I don't know. If you have any ideas let me know.
I would really like to get Firefox working properly again, because I'm so used to it, and use addons like Zotero. Also, I have Windows in dual boot, and I have Firefox running there, and everything I do there was synced to Firefox in Ubuntu. But not anymore :(.
    Thanks.

  • Firefox was fast when I first started using. Now, very slow to open and freezes often. Frequent message is "Warning-unresponsive script". Do I need to switch back to Internet Explorer?

Switched from Internet Explorer because seemed slow. Firefox was fast at first. Then upgraded to Firefox 4 and frequently have trouble opening. Sometimes page doesn't open, or is very slow. If I try to open again I will get Mozilla Firefox Unresponsive or a message that say "Warning-Unresponsive Script". Often have to restart and do the whole thing again. Don't really want to switch back to Internet Explorer, but getting tired of taking a half hour to get into my emails!

I am having the same problem, but not sure what's causing the slow down. Restarting in safe mode fixes the performance problem... but disabling all plug ins and extensions in normal mode (and restarting firefox) still shows the bug. Any ideas?
