Very slow import

Hi,
on 9 i on Win 2003
I'm importing (imp Command line) some tables
imp user/pwd@MYDB file=D:\oracle\export0210.dmp full=y ignore=y and it is very slow. Here is my system situation :
last pid: 27474; load averages: 6.93, 7.51, 8.61 13:57:07
325 processes: 321 sleeping, 4 on cpu
CPU states: 28.9% idle, 58.9% user, 12.2% kernel, 0.0% iowait, 0.0% swap
Memory: 8192M real, 483M free, 8096M swap in use, 9345M swap free But I do not know how to interpret this.
Is there too much load on server ?
Any parameter should be added in imp Command to be faster ?

Pro Photographer. I have a Mac Pro Quad core 1 yr old with 12GB Ram. I import via 2 Firewire 800 card readers - A Lexar & a UDMR Reader.Only using them singly. System has 4 1TB hard drives 1. Applications, 2. Aperture Library, 3. Aperture Vault, 4 Time Machine
On a photo shoot, first CF card may download and complete in less than a minute but the next card with a similar number of images may take 10 minutes.
Sometimes if I swap card readers, this can speed up download but then everything slowly grinds to a halt.
I have closed down all other programmes, switched off Faces and Enable Gestures - switched off Look up places.
Situation driving me nuts as we shoot and view images with customers immediately after the session and download time effecting the amount of time we have to do this. Nothing seems logical as such a high spec machine should theoretically fly through this.

Have you upgraded your OS ans all your Apps to the latest Versions and also rebooted the system?
Turn on the Activity Viewer (Windows ->Show Activity) while importing, to see how Aperture is spending its time.
Also launch some tools from the Application -> Utilities folder:
launch the Console window, to check for diagnostics /error messages
launch the Activity Viewer, to see how much RAM and CPU time Aperture and other processes are using.
How much space is free on your system drive? And on the drive you are importing to?
If you find in the Activity Viewer, that Aperture is slow, but de facto using not much CPU time, then the problem may be a corrupted Aperture Library or corrupted preference files.
Try to import into a new, empty Aperture library and see if the problem persists.
If you have no problems with a new Library, try the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics:

Start with repairing permissions and repairing the library.
If none of the measures outlined there, or you need further help, please report back.

I am experiencing very slow import and backing up catalog on exiting Lightroom. This is a very recent issue. I use RAW files.

The type of files you are importing will have an effect on the speed of the import process. Larger files, like raw sensor files, are normally much larger than JPG files.
But if this is something new, the slowness, and you are using the same camera with the same size files as previously then it's not just the file size.
What type of computer and what operating system are you using.

Very very slow import using LOG and Transfer

I am using a CANON VIXAIA HF10.and the clips are importing very very slow. The max time on each clip is only 5 min or so. Is there a way to speed this up? Thanks.

Log and transfer only supports AVCHD. It does not support AVCHD Lite, nor will it work with Motion JPEG media. You could use third party software to convert it, or iMovie and then export a QuickTime movie from there in the correct codec and format.

Very slow importing CDs

I have just got a new coputor with Windows 7 os importing CDs takes forever, sead is only 2.5x please help imorpt with XP was very fast

I have had some help and have tried many things to resolve this. Bottom line, it was the CD reader. I tried to load the same "slow loading" CD into someone else's computer and it went in faster than I've ever seen (9.5X - 13X). I borrowed his CD reader and put in in my machine and it worked fine for the 5 CD of the 100 I had left to load because they loaded so slow. This time, there was one of these 5 that read in at 1.1X. Again, I borrowed a different CD reader, put it in my machine, and it read fine. This problem was NOT program/system related: I tried cleaning files, running Adware, Antivirus, defrag, etc.) I read/burn lots of CDs and must wear them out in my laptop.

Very slow import on a Mac

Copying images to a new location, importing images from a CF card, and generating previews directly into Lightroom is painfully slow-90 minutes or more for an 8 gig card. However, manually copying the images to my hard-drive and then importing and rendering previews cuts the time to approximately five minutes.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? (At a workshop this past weekend, every mac user had the same problem.) Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
I suppose that I can just manually copy and import the images but that defeats the purpose of having the auto import feature.

The only workaround that I know of for the PC is to use Nikon Camera Control Pro. This should let you shoot tethered while working in Lightroom. You can also set up a watch folder in Lightroom so as Camera Control Pro transfers images to the watch folder they will be automatically imported into Lightroom. (Not sure if Lightroom will import new images in the watch folder while importing images from a memory card. Doubt it.) Camera Control Pro is also available for the Mac.
If you are a Mac user, there is a very nice donation-ware alternative to Camera Control Pro called Sofortbild at http://www.sofortbildapp.com/. There may be an alternative for the PC but I don't know about it if there is.

Very slow importing of photos from camera lightroom 4.4

I'm trying to import photos directly from my nikon D7000 as I normally do, but today, it is taking forever. I have tried restarting lightroom, as well s my MAC and also tried optimizing my catalog, and also installed software updates. HELP!!

I would not risk storing all the pictures of a trip to a single 16 GB card... Using your IPAD as backup seems a very good idea.
About the speed of uploading a library of 16 GB, it's not much more than copying 16GB to your computer from a card or a USB stick. You can test it yourself; 'getting' files from the card into the catalog is quick after the 16GB are copied, the only step which will be longer is the creation of the thumbnails, but that does not prevent you from working in the organizer before they are created.

Photoshop CC very slow importing video [was: Hey i have this problem,]

i was using photoshop CC and everytime i tried to import a video it would make the whole computer really slow and i'd recieve the message "photoshop could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened"... then i uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it and now when i try to import videos it takes a really long time to open it and make the layers. it also doesnt open wmv files, like it used to. I use windows 7 thanks

Very Slow Imports

Rec'd the 60G video Ipod for Christmas, just intalled ITunes 6 last weekend. I started importing cd's at a rate of 18x, which was awesome. Started importing more cd's today, down to a rate of 4x, which is taking forever (I've got about 400 cd's to import). The notebook is new, so there's plenty of disk space, currently have about 2G's of songs in ITunes. Would really appreciate some help.
PS - I've already done a disk clean up & defragmented...no help at all.

I have noticed that some CDs import at faster (or slower) rates than others. Also, that music towards the outer edge of the CD imports quicker (makes sense as the outer areas of a CD pass by the read head faster at any given spin rate).
You may want to try one of those early disks that imported at 18x. If it still does, then it's an individual disk issue, not a PC or iTunes issue.
I have had some CDs import at 3x - like waiting for paint to dry. Others usually import at 18-20x.

Very slow import in oracleDB10gR2 in windows2003.

I am upgrading my DB from 8i to 10gr2 in windows OS.
I exported my data with exp 8.1.7 and importing with imp 10.0.2.0. Surprisingly it took very long time (2 days!!!), even when I export with no data option in witch my DMP file size is 1237 KB it takes 5 hours. When Import it to 8i DB it took 2 or 3 minutes.
I have set the parameters in distinction DB's almost the same.
Has any body encountered this problem?
Or does any body have a solution for this problem?

and becuse of no data option,
I dont think that the problem is becuse of
PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET,
db_cache_size
parameters.
in oracle 8i db it works fine.

Aperture 3.1.3 Very slow importing raw files please help

Pro Photographer. I have a Mac Pro Quad core 1 yr old with 12GB Ram. I import via 2 Firewire 800 card readers - A Lexar & a UDMR Reader.Only using them singly. System has 4 1TB hard drives 1. Applications, 2. Aperture Library, 3. Aperture Vault, 4 Time Machine
On a photo shoot, first CF card may download and complete in less than a minute but the next card with a similar number ofimages may take 10 minutes.
Sometimes if I swap card readers, this can speed up download but then everything slowly grinds to a halt.
I have closed down all other programmes, switched off Faces and Enable Gestures - switched off Look up places.
Situation driving me nuts as we shoot and view images with customers immediately after the session and download time effecting the amount of time we have to do this. Nothing seems logical as such a high spec machine should theoretically fly through this.

• If you are uploading directly into Aperture, don't. Instead first copy to a folder on the hard drive.
• Capture RAW+JPEG and tell Aperture to use the camera JPEGs for Previews.

VERY slow importing

since updating to itunes 9.3.0 about 3 weeks ago, it takes FOREVER to import from cds. any help/ideas? thanks a bunch for anything you got.

How fast does your disc drive spin? When you put a CD in and begin importing I think it tells you. Importing can sometimes take longer if there's more data on a disc, your memory on the computer is nearly full or your disc drive is quite old and doesn't spin too fast, other than that I'm not sure of a solution except be more patient!

RAC on NFS very very slow import

what may be wrong?You should get the answer - by using appropriate methods to narrow down the problem and fixing it. Now you have an environment plus a stable reproducible (I guess) test case. Trace your test case with wait events and post the results here. It would be a good idea to post vmstat 5 output for the running test here too.
Plus a couple of questions: what is DB version (4 digit), how many CPUs do you have on each node, how many nodes in RAC, what is used for storage and how is it organized (RAID ?/ASM), what kind of network is used for interconnect.

Lightroom 5.5 Import from Catalog *very* slow performance.

Importing from a second catalog from a shoot is *very* slow with the last version or couple of versions of Lightroom. It's been about 20 minutes and the import is moving glacially slow and is only about 20% done.
Here are as many stats as I have:
iMac 27" 3.5Ghz Core i7, 32G of ram, 3T fusion drive (the late 2013 model maxed out)
Master catalog has 117,000 images in it.
The catalog I'm importing has 948 images in it.
CPU use during the import is 100% used by lightroom (note that the multiple CPUs can go to more than 100% so this means I think that one CPU is maxed out, though LR can sometimes take 500% of my CPUs during an export)
Lightroom is using 4.2G of RAM (10G free in activity monitor)
Hard drive is fairly full, but still has 366G free on it (so about 10%)
Lightroom Mobile sync is enabled (not on this folder I don't think) but says "service unavailable" at this point.
Lightroom is fully up to date (5.5) on both iMac and laptop (also a mac in case that matters). Both are up to date with the latest OS software.
How I did it was:
Export the shoot as a new catalog on my iMac
Transfer it to my laptop (smart previews only, no masters)
Edit images, metadata, etc
Transfer the entire folder back (.lrcat, previews, smart previews) to iMac
In my master catalog do an import from catalog
Waited for ages for checking for dupes (which I can understand with such a big catalog)
Selected to import all, changing metadata and develop edits, and selecting to put new images in the folder (not sure why it asked as there weren't any new images)
The last time I did an import I started it and then went out somewhere so I didn't notice how long it took, but this seems completely crazy. In the time it's taken to write this up it's now about 20 minutes later and the progress bar is maybe at the 33% range. It's still working away, it's just crazy crazy slow.
Anything to help out or debug would be greatly appreciated. I suspect it's pure size of the catalog, but 120k isn't outside the realm of what I've heard people say works fine, or maybe the Fusion drive (maybe the OS is trying to move files around behind the scenes)?
Either way this didn't seem to be an issue until the last couple of versions (I haven't gone and re-installed 5.4 or 5.3 to check) and it's starting to really frustrate me

Great suggestion! It opens perfectly fine on its own. I even went as far as re-exporting it once it loaded but am still experiencing the same issue. That same catalog loads perfectly fine on my assistant's iMac.
I can't really think about anything that changed in my environment with the exception of a new Bootcamp partition to run windows on an external Thunderbolt HD but I doubt this is related.
I'm open to any suggestions while I am trying this again... 10 minutes of 'Checking for changed and duplicate photos'.

Import ABAP running very slow

guys, I am installing IDES EHP4 on a solaris box with oracle 10g. The import is running very slow. in 20 hours, it has only imported 10 out of 105 jobs. Top comand shows i have 26 GB free physical memory (out of 48GB total) and also 123 GB free swap out of 150 GB total. CPU load is also only 3 %. I have already configured the project file acording to sap recommedation. MY oracle init file configuration looks like this. Also, you will see my project and user_attr files below. Please advise what i can change tomake things go faster.
