Very slow login window on wake

My MacBook Air is very slow to wake to the login screen. It asks for my password every time, as I like it, but every time I open the lid, it's a good 10 seconds before I can even type my password. The screen turns on, but the text box isn't selected and nothing responds to keys, until about the 10 second mark, when it all seems to jolt on again, and I can log in.
It's not life-threatening, just an annoyance.
Most significantly, there is a log in the console every time I log in with the same message:
28/11/12 11:40:19.206 PM loginwindow[3191]: find_shared_window: WID -1
28/11/12 11:40:19.206 PM loginwindow[3191]: CGSSetWindowTags: Invalid window 0xffffffff
Apparently the loginwindow process is trying to find some specific window with an invalid address (0xffffffff is a little odd for a window's address, don't you think?). Of course, this problem persists over reboots, even when I've killed every single non-standard process.
Is anybody else experiencing this? And if so, has anyone worked out a solution?

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then drag or copy the text — do not type it — into the Terminal window and press return:
pmset -g
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.

    Hi Wleblanc,
“WebDAV is VERY slow on Windows 7 only. When using WebDAV on Windows 8 or using the web portal (browser), file uploads are very fast.”
Do you mean only the uploading operation in WebDAV of Windows 7 is slow or the whole WebDav performance is slow ?
Please check this service ”Webclient” from the service control .
I noticed that the process of creating a WebDAV connection is a little different in Windows 7 and Windows 8 .Someone indeed informed the information that this service will affect the WebDAV performance.

  • Very slow scrolling window thumbnails clips

Very slow scrolling windows with thumbnail clips. The more files in the event, the worse it gets. It is very frustrating. Is in others it is the same? I have MacOookPro i7 early 2011, thunderbolt drives RAID0, 16GB memory, FCPX 10.0.7. After the hardware is decent.
    Give some feedback, thank you.
P.S. I might add that this disadvantage are found from version 10.0.0.

You might want to look at either booting from your install dvd (insert, restart and hold 'C' down) and running disk repair from Utilities. Alternatively, and I always suggest any Mac user should have at least one, a 3rd party disk utility like DiskWarrior (there are others) is extremely useful.

  • Safari brow. very slow on windows platform. Why ?

    Hello everyone!
I am Italian and this is my first post, and I want your help.
Using Safari on a Vaio Sony with Windows XP SP3, and I have a big problem:
The opening of the Safari browser when the computer is very..very slow!
Indeed, to start Safari it takes from 40 to 50 seconds, and other
sometimes even more ... how can I solve this problem?
    Thank you all !
    massimo

I seems to have the same problem too!
It is like Safari is frozen but this only happen when I first launch Safari. After about a minute or so, Safari 'wakes up' and start loading web pages, and browsing seems to be fine. This issue I think started ever since I install XP SP3.
I am using AMD Atholon 64 X2 3800, with 2GB of RAM. Checked Task Manager and Safari is only using around 90MB so it is not hogging all the memory. Not sure why this happen.
Now I just start Safari, walked away for a coffee and leave it running throughout.

  • HP LaserJet P1006 Print very slow with Windows 8.1

I have an HP LaserJet 1006 that is installed on Toshiba Laptop running Windows 8.1 and was working fine even from time to time it stop working at all, then I have to remove the software and then reinstall it again and then it works fine, last time I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Driver for the printer.
But this time, first I tried to remove the software but it didn't work; the printer still show up on the control panel - Devices and Printers. then some how I was able to reinstall the software , after that the printer is working but printing very slow even it is a LaserJet printer.
Please any one can help with that?
    Thanks;

    Hey @wmowafi,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing a slow printing issue on Windows 8.1 when printing to your HP Laserjet P1006 Printer. I would like to work with you today at resolving this issue. Now the only driver available for your product on Windows 8.1 is a hostbased plug and play basic generic driver. Therefore, there is limitations for what can be done for troubleshooting. As you stated, you have already attempted an uninstalled and reinstalled of the driver to no avail. I'm going to suggest some further steps and tools to resolve this issue for you.
    Step 1: Uninstall Your Printer:
    Disconnect your USB cable
Click the following link: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled to access the Microsoft Uninstall Tool.
Once the website opens, select Run Now on the right hand side
    Allow the Tool to run.
    When prompted choose Uninstall
A list of programs should populate and you're looking for the Laserjet. It may appear as LJ P1000 series. Please select the Laserjet series and Uninstall it.
If the Laserjet doesn't show in the list of programs than your Windows 8.1 computer does not see the Laserjet driver as properly installed.
Step 2: Clear the Temp Files:
Launch your Start screen by right clicking on the Windows icon on the bottom left of your screen or by select the Windows button on your keyboard located to the right of the Ctrl button.
Once the Start screen launches, type the word Run
Click on Run to launch it
In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
Once the Temp folder opens, hold down Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard and everything will highlight in the folder. Select 'Delete' on your keyboard. Don't worry, no files or folders on your actual computer will be removed during this process. If a file is still be used on your computer you will get a pop up to 'skip' the file
Once the Temp folder is emptied of its files, close the window
On your Desktop, right click on the Recycling Bin and left click on 'Empty Recycling Bin'
    Restart you computer
Step 3: Reinstall the Laserjet P1006:
Please keep your USB cable disconnected
Click on the following link: HP LaserJet P1000-P1500 Hostbased Plug and Play Basic Driver
The driver page for your product will now launch
Select Download and allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete an extraction will automatically run and once completed the installer will launch
Run through the step-by-step on screen instructions.
Please do not plug in your USB cable until prompted
Ensure that your USB cable is plugged in from the rear of the printer directly to the computer. Avoid extenders or docking stations as they can cause printing and communication issues.
    Test printing!
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. Good luck!

  • AIR 3.0 Application Built in HTML/Javascript VERY SLOW on Windows 7 and XP

    Hello AIR Team,
The commercial AIR application I'm developing for a client (using HTML/CSS/Javascript) is VERY SLOW on my Windows 7 (64 bit) and Windows XP machines running on the Adobe AIR 3.0 runtime. I notice the poor performance in all aspects of the application, but especially on mouse events (mouseover, mouseout, click).
However, it runs very well on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 test machine AND from within Dreamweaver CS5.5 on my Windows 7 machine.
Chris Campbell from Adobe posted in another topic on this forum that he has notified the Adobe Webkit Team about this issue, but I'm anxious to know WHEN the Adobe AIR Team will release an AIR update/patch to resolve these performance issues.
    Any ETA on the update/patch?
    ~Oscar

This performance issue is tracked in adobe bugbase: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2958614

  • Access 2007 very slow on Windows 7

Access 2007 is running very slowly in on two new Windows 7 clients.  By slow, I mean the response time within Access - moving from screen to screen is dreadfully slow, taking 30+ seconds on Windows 7 to do what a computer with Windows XP will do in
    1 second.
I cannot find any information that addresses the issue.
We have been running Windows XP SP3 clients successfully for almost a year.  The speed is virtually instantaneous.  The Access file is hosted on a file server, Windows Server 2003, with SQL Server Express 2008.  Nothing has changed on the
server.  The Windows XP clients previously and currently experience no problems.
The first of 2 new computers were deployed with Windows 7, with OS pre-loaded from Dell.  Microsoft update was run to update OS and Access.  Once discovered that Access was running brutally slow, I used the other new PC to test.  Windows 7
freshly installed.  Office 2007 freshly installed.  Tested - still slow.  Ran Windows Update, then re-tested.  Still slow.
The issue reminds me of the slowness experienced when we were developing the Access database on my laptop which was running Vista.  So, it runs fine on XP, but not on Vista or 7.
I'm convinced the problem is a conflict with Windows 7 on the client, but cannot pinpoint it.  I've searched these forums and Google for answers, but have not found any information that has specifically addressed this issue.  Can anyone offer assistance?

After reading numerous forums , I was able to resolve
the following issues (Screens Freezing, Screens Lag/Flickers, combo/list boxes freezing whilst searching for data) by carrying out the following:
Creating a brand new copy of the MS Access database in MS Access 2007/2010 using the Windows 7 image
Importing the database objects (tables queries, forms, reports, macros and modules) into MS Access 2007 /2010 d/b within the Windows 7 image.
    Setting the
MaxBufferSize of 16384 (Decimal), HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (regedit) onto various PCs as recommended by various forums.
Making sure that the relevant reference libraries have been selected for MS Access 2007. This should automatically set throughout the default
    installation as demonstrated below:
    Visual Basic For Applications
    Microsoft Access 12.0 Object Library
    OLE Automation
    Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library
Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.5 Library
Also by typing in the following words into Google, provided me with some solutions, however the instructions above allowed me to rectify the issues
    experienced above.
MS Access 2007 slow in Windows 7
MS Access 2007 and Windows 7 issues
    MS Access 2007 freezes
Performance slow with MS Access and Linked Tables
Slow performance windows 7 using MS Access

  • Firefox 22 running very slow on windows 7 but no problem in linux. Help

Firefox 22 is running very slow ( rather stalling forever) on windows 7.
I tried resetting option from the "Troubleshooting information" menu and also tried disabling "Hardware acceleration" but still having the problem.
Takes almost a minute ( "New window not responding"..) just to try any option..like opening a new tab.
I have same version on linux mint and but FF runs smoothly.

Sorry, not an option. As I said, I have binned FF22 and gone back to 21 -- and it works just as fast as it always did, corrupt profile or no corrupt profile.

  • Time Capsule connection is very slow on windows 8

Time Capsule wireless connection  is very slow on a Samsung windows 8 computer.
Any advice? It is placed next to my mac and the speed is 20% less (often more)
If I move the computer into the livingroom (about 10 meter) the speed is reduced with 95%.

Windows 8 drivers are still developing.. download the drivers from the wireless manufacturer not Samsung and try it.
I am not surprised though at differences between wireless.. card using different chipsets and different antennas will give totally different results.
But you can help a bit.. setup the TC with SMB names.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
Set the name for 5ghz different to 2.4ghz so you can change over.
Set the security to WPA2 Personal which is the only one suitable for N wireless at home without a server.
Set 2.4ghz to manual radio channels and test, channel 1, 6, 11 in turn.
Try up close using 5ghz as it is faster.. but to get full speed you need a broadcom 450mbps card..
Remember wireless chipset like atheros and broadcom never quite see eye to eye.. it is one reason you buy the same brand.
Solution.. buy a cheap edimax wireless router.. plug it into the TC and use it for wap only.. I just did this for a friend.. works much better than TC or airport extreme on a PC. But I have not used win8 yet.. no idea if that is going to be problematic.

  • MMC Snapin Shared folders very slow on windows 7

After the roll out of windows 7 i installed the RSAT SP1 on the 7 32 bit machine.
Here i created a mmc snap in with users and computers and active sessions.
The users and computers are running fine but the active sessions very slow, on xp it was running great.
I allready turn off netbios over tcp/ip and deleted the cache on the win 7 client, no result.
In our environment (2003r2 and 2008r2) i am not allowed to change adapter settings of the servers.
Is there a fix for the client site with RSAT?

    Hi,
We may test the issue via the steps below.
    1. Click Start, type in Secpol.msc and press Enter.
    2. Expand "Local Policies" and select "Security Options"
    3. Locate "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" in the list and double-click it.
    4. Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated"
    5. Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Based (including secure RPC) Clients
    6. Change the setting from "require 128 bit" to unchecked (No Minimum)
    7. Click OK, and exit.

  • Very slow login/logout with Portable Home Directories

I've set up Portable Home Directories for our department so that people can work from different computers if need be (also, I think our network is too slow to use network home directories). However, the login times are excruciating - some users report average 45 minute login times. None of these users are moving huge files or anything, and even if I just log someone out (completing the sync) and then log back in, the login will be very slow.
If I disconnect the computers from the network, obviously it logs in quickly because it can't connect to the server, but I don't want to do that (or disable login/logout sync altogether). I tried removing things from the login/logout sync rules, but often the sync takes time just on 'Finishing' or 'Stopping', so I don't think that it's any particular files that take a lot of time.
On a possibly related note, for some reason our computers all take perhaps 30 seconds to get an IP address when starting up, waking up from sleep, etc. Is there any reason why the computer would need to be doing this repeatedly? Especially on logout, this wouldn't seem relevant, but I've seen that mentioned in other threads.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Greg

  • Java 2D very slow with Windows XP

    Hi all!
I'm writing an isometric game engine using Java 2D API, in full-screen exclusive mode and using all the advantages of the new VolatileImage class. The engine is almost finished, I'm testing it putting some animated players on screen and showing the frame rate of the engine. Everything went right, frame rate was very high in Linux and Windows 98/Me. But when I try to run the engine on Windows XP I can only get 5 or 6 fps!!!! And I don't know why!! It seems that XP makes Java run very slow... at least when using Java2D...
Please, anyone knows why the performance is reduced??? Is there a new JRE release for Windows XP?? I'm using JDK 1.4.1.
    Thanks for your help.

If you're using the Fullscreen API, then you're using BufferStrategy, thus you shouldn't use VolatileImages, it does this for you in the background. You shouldn't create any buffers, simply use the one provided. I'm assuming your problem probably lies in transparency. I've made an isometric engine using the fullscreen API that has run with complete 60fps page flipping. I would assume your bottle-neck lies in:
Transparencys (These are very slow, there is a way to make a bitmask, much like you'd do in DirectX)
Dynamic Memory allocation/Alpha rendering in your animation loop. (You need to allocate ALL of the colors you're going to use, and avoid using an alpha component if you want to avoid the VM getting bogged down by the garbage collector because you're allocating 30 Color objects a second).
I made a Color object that was some what hacked together that has methods to allow you to access it's values for doing this kind of thing, allocating your scheme before hand is an easier approach.
The method that performs the page flipping is a BLOCKING method, so you should orient your drawing before it, and not assume it's simply placing a request, like repaint does.
