Very Slow Portal Forms Performance
My customer is running a simple (one table) 3.0.8 Portal Forms application on Solaris. The forms are created in .19 seconds, but take 7 to 10 seconds to display (even when just leafing through results). Direct queries on the table are very quick, and Portal Reports on the same system are fine.
I have determined that there are no Forms related traces in the log file.
Suggestions?
Thanks, Wendel Yale
Wendel,
Please take a look at the following post, I posted the workaround information there:
http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum81/HTML/000395.html
It's a bug in 3.0.8 fresh install only, basicaly it comes down to 2 missing indexes.
Thanks,
Dmitry

Extremely slow MD form performance - 3.0.8
Hello,
I have a MD form based on the same table for Master and Detail (to display multiple lines). There are only 3 fields in the table. However, the performance is extremely slow (45 secs).
I have seen some posts about this but did not see any solution.
Please help.
Thanks.Hi,
Have you tried a workaround described here?
http://technet.oracle.com:89/ubb/Forum81/HTML/000395.html
There are a couple of indexes missing in a fresh installation re-creating those indexes should help.
Thanks,

Urgent: WAD performance is very slow than query performance
Hi,
If i execute the report(using query with variables) which contains 8,50,000 records in WAD then its taking more than 900 seconds and say Connection timed out at the end.
If i execute the same query in Query designer using Web browser then it will take 400 seconds to show all the data in hierarchy or tabular view.
I've done tuning using RSRT on query read mode and persistent mode etc..
Can you please help me?
THanks in advance. Points will be given...
Reg,
VarunVarun,
Did you ever solve the performance issue of WAD report. We are having the same issue of WAD performance lot slower than executing just as a Query.
Thanks -
Very Slow Run Time Performance OpenEdge (Progress)
Hello everyone,
I am working with Crystal Reports XI R2. Also we have developed an export application based on OpenEdge 10.1B (Progress 4GL).
Problem: The export of any Crystal Reports file to PDF format takes (via application in Progress) takes 5 times or more time than when I just export that report via Crystal Reports XI. There is an ODBC connection via OpenEdge 10.1B to DWH SQL92.
I have monitored the performance. It seems when the Crysta Reports try to communicate to the query or dataset, it takes longer time. In some situation the temp file is already filled out in Win Temporary directory, and then it waits so long to populate the data within CR and finally exports to PDF.
What is wrong? Please HELP!!!!!!A part of codes:

It seems my machine does not like your ver4 and 3.6.16. I want the ver prior to 3.6.16. . Since the last 2 updates have not been able to use FF to browse or play Webkinz. It is way too slow. Following the install of 3.6.16 the Colorfultabs is not working and I can't fix it or adjust it because the Add-ons list/page freezes. I have removed/disabled several add-ons and extensions and nothing seems to help. If it were not for IE I would not be able to use my machine. I have 2.5 GB of memory and 30 percent plus of free space on my hard drive. I use Windows XP SP3 if that makes a difference. I don't think I need a lot of add-ons but need to know what I can remove. The feature to open FF without any add-ons is gone for some reason. Please give me back my simple smooth operating FF. Thank you.
I had all the dot nets in add/remove but discovered they were not installed. Got all up to date. Puter is 2005, I have all that U listed except Win7. I just don't know if I need that or not. Did U say that I need more than the 2.5 GB
memory that I have? Please tell me why Win7 is better than WinXP.
FF is running much better now but Webkinz accounts are still loading slower than in IE. I am wondering if maybe I should totally remove all of FF including customizations and personal info and start over fresh with a clean install of ver 4. I am still using ver 3.6.16. Is it possible that this is reason for Webkinz (a flash, java and Unity game) not loading good? Also, are there some of the Plug-ins that I can remove? What Audio players do I need? I have wmp, real player, aol media playback, realarcade, realjukebox, also is Zylom usable? Thank you so much for your help. -
Oracle query / view performing very slow.
Hello,
I had created a view in my application for example
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW EmpTransfer
( EMPID,EMPNAME,EMPMANAGER,EMPDOB,EMPTRANSFER)
AS
SELECT EMPID,EMPNAME,EMPMANAGER,EMPDOB,EMPTRANSFER
FROM EMP ;
After couple of months if we changed a columnname in the table EMP and added a new column.
We changed column name EMPTRANSFER to OldEMPTRANSFER and added a new column as NEWEMPTRANSFER.
The indexes were recreated on OldEMPTRANSFER and new index is creatd on NEWEMPTRANSFER column.
the view is again recreated.
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW EmpTransfer
( EMPID,EMPNAME,EMPMANAGER,EMPDOB,OldEMPTRANSFER,NEWEMPTRANSFER )
AS
SELECT EMPID,EMPNAME,EMPMANAGER,EMPDOB,OldEMPTRANSFER ,NEWEMPTRANSFER
FROM EMP ;
This view is working as expected but some times this view is working very slow.
The performance of this view is randomly slow.
Is it possible that column name change will cause slowness...?What's the explain plans for both before and after the column change? It could possibly be running slow the first time because of a hard parse due to the query change, which will remain until it's in the shared_pool.

Cisco RV 120W VERY slow performance and being unreachable
Hello!
I have strange issues with my RV 120W, which I bought after the recommendations from a Cisco/Linksys pre-sales support. I'm using this unit for SOHO environment with two clients (computers) connected and a few mobile clients. Nothing special and nothing complex. I replaced my WRT610N router with this one on behalf of the VPN features, the RV 120W offers.
Before initial setup I upgraded firmware to it's latest (1.0.1.3).
The issues I'm having with this thing are:
- very slow WLAN performance. And I mean - very, very slow. After doing some analysis I'm having a drop from 10Mbit/s to a stable speed of only a few houndrets of kilos per second. Even less. An average, constant speed test show no more than 50-80 kB/s. And I have a 20/20Mbit link.
- very slow WAN - LAN performance. Although not as slow as WLAN, even LAN is somehow slow with an average throughput from WAN to LAN show no more than 15Mbit/s.
- WAN IP address - host cannot be reached. After setting up the router to be able to echo the PING and be remotely managed, I can achive both services JUST for about 20 seconds after the unit reboots. After those 20 seconds, remote management sessions are timed out and the host is unreachable. But If I reboot the router again, I get it to work again - for no more than 20 seconds.
As this is my first (more) professional router, I'm not really sure if I've got my VPN setup correctly. I cannot get it my VPN to work either and I can't tell if these issues are related.
Any help would be appriciated.
ThanksHey Juka,
Sorry your having issues with the rv120w.
I seen that you upgraded the firmware on the rv120w when you got it. I always do a factory reset of the device when upgrading the firmware. I will first backup my configs, factory reset the device, then reload the configs.
Try that since you did do a firmware upgrade to see if the device speeds up for you.
The wireless issues you were describing, I would do a wireless scan using a wireless analysis software like INSSIDER or something like it, that way you can see the wireless channels that are being used and set your router manually to a channel that has no or the least congestion.
Try this and let us know what you get. -
Very slow Spotlight performance
Hi, I'm experiencing a very very slow (even none) performance when I try to spotlight some files and folders. It has slightly a better performance on the spotlight window. It's working perfect only with apps.
I've been rebuild the spotlight's database and did permissions repairs and other stuff found googling and nothing seems to get it correctly working. It did worked perfect some time ago. But not any more.
I'd thank some help.Download and run ALL the free OnyX cleaning and maintenance aspects and reboot.

Spotlight will index again, but see how it works after it's done. -

It's known to be a buggy application and even though there's nothing wrong with DIVX itself it has become a platform for malicious pushers of adware and malware to sneak stuff onto your computer while installing. If you carefully installed the official DIVX nothing should be wrong.
Below are extra steps in case DIVX isn't the solution:
The goal here is to boot your Mac to the so-called Recovery partition where you’ll have a chance to repair the disk and the disk permissions using the Disk Utility and Password Utility. This might solve your issue and even if it doesn’t- it’s still a decent maintenance step to perform. These steps won’t erase your data or reinstall your Mac in any way if you follow instructions carefully.
Here’s how:
1/ Make sure your computer is completely shut down.
2/ You’ll have to be quick next: Press the Mac’s power button. As soon as you either hear the loud chime, or see the display light up - usually after a second or 2 - on your keyboard press [cmd] + [r] Keep these keys on your keyboard pressed until you either see an Apple Logo with a loading bar or a spinning gear.
After a few minutes, you’ll be presented with a Utilities screen. This is the Recovery partition. If this step is already giving you problems, try using a USB-keyboard. It doesn’t have to be an Apple-keyboard. If you have a Windows-tailored keyboard laying around, use the “Windows-flag” key in stead of the [cmd]-key and it should also work.
3/ Choose Disk Utility and click [continue]
Disk Utility will display your computer’s harddrive in the left column. The default name for it is “Macintosh HD” and is usually the second one from the top. Click on it and click on the [verify disk] button. This will check your “Macintosh HD” harddrive partition for errors. If found, click [repair disk] unless you have a Fusion drive in your Mac and it says [fix] instead of [repair disk] please tell us before you continue! For a screenshot of what I mean, check this article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202574
4/ Once done with the verifying or repairing of your “Macintosh HD” click [repair disk permissions]
This will check your partition for permissions errors. A common myth about this feature is that it will fix all permissions issues on your Mac, which is not true, but it will fix most systemwide issues. Also, here is a list of error messages that you can safely ignore if they pop up:
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203172
5/ Lastly we shall do a permissions/Access Control List repair on specifically your user’s home folder with a somewhat hidden tool in the Recovery partition. Close Disk Utility and find the menu called “utilities” in the top left corner of your computer’s display. It’s in between the menus “edit” and “window” Don’t be confused with the menu called “os x utilities”
Choose Terminal. A somewhat old-fashioned looking window will pop up, waiting for a text command from you. This is the Terminal.
After the # type: resetpassword and press return. Note that there is no space between ‘reset’ and ‘password’
What you’ll see next is an rectangular window that gives you the option to reset passwords. We are not going to that, however. Instead, click on “Macintosh HD” at the top. In the pull-down menu below that, choose your user's accountname. Skip all the rest and at the very bottom click the [reset]-button.
A spinning gear will appear and may stay on for a second or several minutes. It’s hard to predict exactly how long.
If you have multiple users on your Mac, I advise you to repeat this step for all your users.
We’re ready to reboot your Mac now. Click on the Apple Menu and choose “startup disk” Choose to boot from “Macintosh HD” Please let us know if this solved your issue, or if the steps above did not work, or could not be performed for some reason. -
Flash player loading files very slow and getting stuck after 100%
Hello all,
I have an issue with my development and need your help and feedback for the same:
I have developed various E-Learning courses which was published some in Flash Player 9 and some with version 10. Since Flash Player 10.1 was introduced all my developed courses was running fine. But it's found that user who are using Flash Player 10.1.85.3 is facing issue with file loading and playing the courses. Some time Flash player fails to load the chapters and files after preloading 100%, and sometime it's very slow in loading performance. I like to intimate that all these was not happening with Flash player version 10. Please give me any idea where I am going wrong. Is this kind of issue possible? If anyone faced the same experience. Please give me your valuable feedback.
Please Note: I have faced an scenario that, suppose a user is stuck with loading the course, and after getting stuck he clear his browser cache, and immediately after that the same player start working fine. And loading the course chapter properly. Need help to get rid of this kind of situation.
Thank you

SAP SNC Portal DCM screen performance is very slow and times out
Friends,
SAP SNC Portal DCM screen performance is very slow and times out when user trying to pull data using customer location
What are the cleanup activites we can do to improve the overall SNC performance ?
We did open OSS message but so far no reply from SAP , Is there any one faced performance issue ?
User/vendor is complaining about slowness , query is standard SAP and its taking more time .(table - /LIME/NTREE) , It looks like number of data are huge causing this problem related to LIME/NTREE table. What are the options to improve the performance ?
Thanks in Advance
Hanuman Choudharyhi Team,
Pls . note the advise from SAP below, IS there any have experiance of archiveing /LIME records ?
Please advise how to start & what the steps in archiving ?
Thanks in advance
I had a look at the DCM query performance in PH1 system and figured out
that most of the time is spent at the LIME layer of database. The
following LIME tables are having far too many entries and is causing
the bottleneck during the query execution.
/LIME/NLOG_QUAN - 38,165,467
/LIME/PN_ITEM - 19,116,518
/LIME/PN_ITEM_TB - 19,154,124
These tables are storing the historical information about LIME(stock)
updates. Since these table grow with each change/update of stock
information, it will slow down the performance of the system over a
period of time. And to avoid the slow responses, the tables should
ideally be archived on a periodic basis to keep the data volume as
minimal as possible. You may have to discuss with the Business to
determine the number of days of LIME record you would want to retain
in the system. I would strongly recommend you to consider the LIME
archival retaining the minimum days (<=60 days) of historical
information. You can find more information about the Lime Archival
in the Sap Help link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm2007/helpdata/en/44/2a83121dde23d1e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm.
Kindly get in touch with your BASIS consultant for the LIME archival.
The application performance should definitely improve after the LIME
archival. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me in case you
require any further clarification in this regards.

Oracle Forms Performance very slow on the internet
Hi ,
We have developed a form application with forms Developer 10g and deployed it on a ORACLE 10g AS. If the user runs our application over intranet there is no any network problem or not any performance decrease occurs. However if we deploy our application over WAN or internet, the startup time of the forms become Very Slow.
What we can use to make it faster , is there any other tools we have to learn like APEX or JDeveloper , what is the best solution , should we forget the Developer for ever and starting with other tools with fast performance on the internet , if so , what we have to learn , please help us , its common problem .
any help please ,Interesting thread....
You asked whether "Forms" is the right product for the job. Well, the answer to that question will depend entirely on exactly what functionality you need and your skill-set. One advantage of using Forms over other Oracle products is that, in my opinion, Forms allows you to create simple or complex applications very quickly, with limited development experience. The downside to using Forms however, is that it does use a fairly thick client making startup slower than other applications. Generally, Forms is not very well suited for Internet deployments although it can and has been done. If your goal is to use a product which is easy to work with and is appropriate for Internet deployment, you may want to consider Apex. The downside to Apex is that unlike Forms, Apex generates what I like to call static html pages. Meaning once a page is displayed for the end-user, the data on it remains the same until the user forces interaction with the server again, but in this case the entire page would be refreshed in order to realize the changes. In the case of Forms, any content displayed to the end-user can be change without completely refreshing their view. I like to refer to Forms as a living application because unlike Apex, it can easily respond to most user inputs and/or server side changes almost in real-time. If you want this "live" experience, Forms might be the way to go, although at the cost of some startup performance. Alternatively, Oracle ADF can also give you a similar live-like experience. However, ADF will require a broader skill-set (pl/sql, java, html, etc), whereas with Forms you could get away with only knowing pl/sql although java knowledge would be helpful.
The views expressed in this thread are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Oracle. -
Very slow performance when assigning value to a form item
Dear all,
I have an add-on form that contains 30 text edits. I did not creat the from with screen painter but positioned them by marking each item's top and left position in the new sub.
I have named them as 'edBox1', 'edBox2'......, 'edBox30'
At a point I need to assign value to each edit text, I have queried the content from DB into one recordset. However, when I start to assign values to each edit text, the performance became very slow.
my code is as follow
me.form.items.item("edBox1").Specific.String = recordset.field.item(0).value.tostring
me.form.items.item("edBox30").Specific.String = recordset.field.item(29).value.tostring
I found that B1 seem to iterate each item on the form in order to find the item I specified.
so I think I should specificy items earler.
Now for each item I dim an object for it at new sub
Dim oedBox1 As SAPbouiCOM.EditText
Dim oedBox30 As SAPbouiCOM.EditText
and while creating forms, I specificy each item to the matched object
Then I assign values to items by
oedBox1.String = recRetrive.Fields.Item(0).Value.ToString
oedBox30.String = recRetrive.Fields.Item(29).Value.ToString
However, B1 still iterates to find the item and the performance is still slow, does anyone has a better solution to this issue? please kindly advise.
Thank you
Alan
Edited by: Chih-Peng Chen on Dec 17, 2007 8:42 AMHi Chen,
you can find one example under SDK samples which will guide on using datasources
Bind the controls to dbdataource and then query the datasource.
then update form using oForm.Update(),this will automatically fill the values in all edit boxes and it will be very fast as well
Hope it helps you

I've just converted a couple of 6i client server forms to 10g.
I'm using the Developer suite 10gR2, with its own built-in oc4j server.
It all works fine, after some fiddling to get icons loaded etc.
But the form is 10 times slower than in client-server. This is a total show-stopper for us. A form that took 2-3 seconds to load before can now take nearly a minute to come up.
Even our very simple login form is slow, many seconds instead of a fraction of a second.
I've tested on the workstation thats running the OC4J, This is a Dual-Xeon 2.4Ghz with 2G of memory, so its NOT the hardware. Its running XP-Pro.
Then I tested on a workstation, using a dummy html page to launch Jinitiator and get the form up. JInitiator installed itself perfectly, but erformance is exactly the same even though its a P-III-800 with only 256M of memory.
The strange thing that we notice is that the performance monitor on the oc4j server machine shows it as almost idle (3% cpu, almost no network traffic and idle disk).
But on the workstation the cpu is at 80-90% all the time, even when the form is just sat there waiting for user input!
So we think we have some sort of applet mismatch or configuration problem. Is there a newer (or older?) applet version thats quicker, or doesn't nail the cpu this way?
My next step is to download just the forms-and-reports services for linux and put that up on a second identical box that has Redhat-ES.
Has anyone else seen this sort of applet behaviour? if so any suggestions would be a great help because we're stumped at the moment.Good feedback folks, but I still don't see any explanations of whats happening, or why it should be slow.
I'll agree that putting the icons in a single file, one jar archive per form, is definitely more efficient. Putting all your icons in one file strikes me as silly since then you have to download all the icons, even if you never bring up forms that use some of them.
BUT gentlemen, it does not explain why we had the problem I described. I see no reason to suspect that the jar file would fix my problem, (of course I'll try anyway).
The point here is that the form was slow to start, OK, maybe that was because it was individually fetching 15 or 20 icon files.
BUT WHY SHOULD IT THEN BE SLOW AFTER THAT!
Sorry to shout but no-one seems to be hearing what I'm saying here:
1) the applet has the CPU locked-up at over 90% all the time
2) the cpu is at 90% when the form is idle waiting for input.
3) the form has completed painting the user interface just fine, I can see everying,
including all the icons, it all works right, its just slow.
4) its not surprising that its slow since the applet has the cpu pegged
5) we get the same pattern of behaviour on a form that has exactly one icon,
for a download of one file, a total of 232 bytes.
Now there is no way you can claim that a jar archive is significantly faster
than a single gif file download, they are both cached and the sizes are both so small that any difference is insignificant.
It looks to me like a bug in the applet, or some sort of configuration or set-up error on my part. But I can't find any documentation on how to control that. The applet itself appears to be very much a black-box with no visibility into whats going on inside it. No trace file, no log file, no debug options.
I mean debugging the applet itself here, not the form that the applet is presenting to the user.
I'm going to work on bringing it up on Linux today, for now I'll just run without icons while I get the forms/reports integration running. Then I'll come back to the icon issue next week. Maybe if I switch to jpegs the problem'll go away. SO I'll post a follow-up sometime next week.
