Very slow saves

RoboHTML X5.0.2: Saves used to be quick, but after Windows
SP2 upgrade, they take a very long time and eat up 100% of CPU.
Anyone know what to do about this?

Welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't be worried about the amount of CPU time. I think
my first approach to dealing with the slow saves would be an
uninstall and reinstall of RH.
Don't forget it must be done using your logon with full admin

  • Illustrator CS3: Very Slow Open, Very Slow Save

    Hello all,
I just recently have been issues with Illustrator CS3. Up until about a few weeks ago, it had been running flawlessly. Now, whenever I try to open up any EPS or AI, Illustrator will literally take at least a minute to open it. This happens with a complex 2mb AI files, but also for a tiny simple files consisting of a 1" square on a blank artboard. No matter the file size, it will take around a minute to open it up.
    Opening a 44kb .eps: 75 seconds
    Opening a 210kb .ai file: 67 seconds
    Saving a 76kb .eps: 56 seconds
Export to grayscale PNG: 66 seconds
Export AI Layers to SWF Files: 2 seconds
    This is ridiculous.
Saving is the same issue. It takes a ridiculously long time to save even a blank document.
It's not my machine (2x2.66ghz Intel Mac with 5gb ram, OSX 10.5.6). Photoshop feels a little sluggish too, but not to this extent. InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Acrobat all run perfectly. I even uninstalled all the CS3 products and reinstalled to find the same issues. And now that I've been given a time sensitive job, I need to get this program running quickly again.
I'm not sure what I can do to solve the problem, aside from trying to reinstall OSX and start fresh. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

Well, I reinstalled Mac OS X before even trying those methods. It was less of a hassle than I thought it would be. Solved the problems with Illustrator. Everything is running fantastic.
But, I was just working in Photoshop, opening about ~20-30 small PNG's at a time to resize, grayscale, etc. I opened up about 60 at once to make things go quicker. They all opened up, with a little bit of lag. Now, if I even try to open up 10-15 PNG's at a time, they load very slow, like the problem I was having before with Illustrator...
Is there anyway to reset some memory settings? Or clear some cache? I believe this is what caused my issues with Illustrator before (opening too many files at once.)

  • Very Slow Save for Web in CS3 Mac

I have Photoshop CS3 Extended 10.0.1 running on a 2.16GHz Intel MacBook running 10.4.11 with 2Gb of installed RAM and around 30% free hard disk space.
Regardless of file size or dimension, Save For Web is painfully slow to load and to save out. Optimized previews update quick enough when settings are changed, but everything else about Save For Web feels like wading in treacle.
Anyone else got this problem? It would be good just to know that I'm not the only one with this issue!
    Any ideas for fixes?

    >My hatred of laptops has NOTHING to do with Photoshop
And my commentary had nothing to do with your hatred. The OP is all about Photoshop usage on laptops, and I am quite experienced using PS on laptops. When I said
    >Note that older laptops like Ramón mentioned would not run PS...
I was just discussing the OP.
For the record I am not a proponent of using laptops or even the stronger iMacs as desktop tower replacements for heavy graphics users. I have consistently recommended in favor of towers and long life cycles and I will continue to do so.
However for the last six months or so I have frequently been using a C2D Macbook Pro as a desktop replacement and I can report unequivocally that it works, especially power-wise, which is what the OP was about. Also based on that experience and also unequivocally I consider using MBPs or the similarly limited iMacs for production graphics work inadvisable.
Strong laptops are incredible machines. They open mobile computing usages that can be of great benefit to many folks, enough benefits that I for one will always have a laptop as one of my computers. The ability to literally do any computing task (except volume graphics production) anywhere is pretty spectacular.
Photo capture, edits and presentation in the field is of huge benefit. Even with something as mundane as this forum communication the ability to do it sitting in the living room instead of sequestered in an office is IMO a good thing.

  • Very slow save time in RH6

    Please help!
Recently my company upgraded us from RH3 to RH6 and I was
placed in charge of converting all of our RH3 projects over to RH6.
Following all the directions and instructions that I could find, I
was able to successfully transfer over 5 of the 6 RoboHelp HTML
project files without a glitch, it's the final project and the
largest of them all that is giving me headaches.
RH6 was installed on a new Windows XP Professional SP2 system
with a 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 75GB harddrive, 2.98 GB
of RAM and 2 GB of Virtual Memory, we are also running on Microsoft
Office 2000. My main project file is 223MB in size and contains
1395 topics, countless bookmarks, and 10 conditional build tags.
Previously on RH3, this manual would normally take 20-30 minutes to
load, about 15-30 seconds to refresh while saving changes made when
working, and about 40-50 minutes to publish, and that was on a much
older and slower CPU system with about 1/8 the memory and speed.
Now, on this newer system, and with the newer version of RH, it is
taking on average of 2-4 hours to load, 2-4 minutes between saves,
and ironically onlyl about 20-30 minutes to publish?
I have tried numerous fixes that were listed out in the
forums, I have read through the Snippets posted on Peter Grainges
site, and uploaded the patches through Adobe (which got rid of the
windows error message we were initially encountering while
publishing). I have both renamed and deleted the .cpd and .xpj
files, I have even went as far as creating an entirely new project
from scratch and importing the individual HTML documents from the
old file and nothing is working?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Quoting from an earlier post:
    =======================================
It is currently on my local drive, although we previously ran
the project in version 3 off of my companies network drive and it
ran pretty much flawlessly, with an occasional hiccup when the
network went down with publishing error messages and login errors.
    =======================================
Your topics may be have a lot of extraneous code, possibly in
    meta statements.
In a couple of old projects that migrated from X3 I found
some stuff like this in X5 or RH 6, I forget when it happened:
    <meta name="build tags"
    content="dontprintnow,dontprintnow,Exclude,dontprintnow,Exclude,dontprintnow,Exclude,dont printnow,Exclude,
    dontprintnow,Exclude,dontprintnow,Exclude,dontprintnow,Exclude,dontprintnow,Exclude,dontpr intnow,
    Exclude,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dont printnow,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow ,
    dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontprintnow,dontp
    and on and on.
I fact, I just found the above example by searching some old
projects. "Exclude" and "dontprintnow" were tags I had used at the
    topic level..
The current cpd file, like its predecessors in earlier
releases, keeps track of this, too. So every time you get such
garbage in a topic, it gets stuffed into the cpd when you close the
project. Imagine how long that must take, especially given the
limitations of MS Access database table fields.
I don't know how the repetitions came about. It may have been
during a crash, but by the time I discovered this garbage it was
too late to trace it back. You wrote that you experienced some
    hiccups, too.
As you had as many as 10 build tags, some of this junk may
still lurk in topics, despite your attempt to delete tags at the
    project level.

  • Save Open dialog box opening very slow

I have windows 7 professional 64bit OS. whenever i try to open/save as dialog box it appears very slow, then it will say it is not responding then after 10-15sec it will come alive.
    Need help!!!!!!

    Blair,
I followed your suggestions above....reset IE ...clean boot. Didn't solve the problem.  (had trouble making that MSCONFIG window bigger !? <wink>)
Problem still exists.  And to be clear, here is the problem(s) ...I believe they are all interrelated.
#1.  I end the explorer.exe process and restart it.  Run Explorer and start clicking folders in my FAVORITES.  System hangs for about 10 seconds before it catches up.
Alternatly, after a explorer.exe restart, if I run explorer and start clicking down through folders from the C: drive, there is no hang.   SUSPECT - some sort of file for favorites needs to be rebuilt?!
#2. Open MS Word.  Type a few letters.  Select File/Save.  Most icons under Favorites are white.  Trying clicking more than one, but system hangs for ten seconds until icons fill in.
#3.  WINDOWS button, start typing in the search INTERNET....5-10 seconds before Internet Explorer (and other INT* things show up.!  Usually this is instantaneous.
    System Info:
Great machine and fast for over a year, and now this started FYI.
OS Name    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    Version    6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Dell System XPS L321X
    x64-based PC
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2467M CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1601 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
    4 gb Ram
    256 SSD
ACTIONS TAKEN:  (estimated 30 reboots today)
    - Ensure all folders are GENERAL under properties
    - Advanced Attributes - turned off "allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties"
    - Checked Indexed location is C: drive/ User/ just my data areas....reindexed
    - Tried reboot with Windows Search service disabled....no help.  Turned back on.
    - Tried MS Essentials off.  Tried Firewall off
    - Rebuilt ICONCACHE - was 8mb, now less 450kb
    - Archived OUTLOOK down to a reasonable size (and had to do the manual compress to reduce the file size after)
    - turned off some Windows visual effects.
    - Turned off Dropbox from autostarting....this was before I tried the Clean Boot
    - turned by ON (default)  in Startup - though it has Unknown MFG and no details  :~(   , i found that it likely is needed for my 64 bit machine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Open and Save Dialogs Very Slow to Open and Populate

In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become +very slow+ to open and populate since installing Snow Leapoard.
This only happens on one of my machines, and not others. (I've unmounted all connected drives, just to eliminate that possibility.)
Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (and feels like the old days of Windows, which I thought I'd left behind).

The problem now appears to have gone away. The only change I've made is that I replaced an external drive that had recently died with a new one and gave it the same name as the failed drive.
Could a the dead drive have left something behind (or failed to leave something behind) that is stumbled over (or looked for and not found) each time the file system was accessed, and that got cleaned up (or re-created) when the new drive was connected and renamed?

    wen6275,
It looks like you're actually using a camera or phone to take a photo of your monitor.
That's not what is commonly known as a "screen shot".
It looks like you're on a Mac.  Hitting Command+Shift+3 places a capture of the contents of your entire monitor on your Desktop; hitting Command+Shift+4 will give you a cross-hairs cursor for you to select just the portion you want to capture.
I'm mentioning this because I fear I'm not construing your original post correctly when you type "I am working with a large files [sic], currently it has 149 layers, all of which are high resolution photographs", so I'm wondering if there's some similar use of your own idiosyncratic nomenclature in your description of your troublesome file.
Perhaps I'm just having a major senior moment myself, but I'm utterly unable to imagine such a file.  Would you mind elaborating?

  • Excel file very slow to save - but only for one user! Why?

    The problem ...
I have an excel spreadsheet that I share with my partner, i.e. another user on my Mac.  The file works just fine for me, but is very slow to save when my partner uses it.  Save time for me is about 3 seconds, for my partner about 45 seconds.  The problem only seems to be with this one file, and the slow save time is driving her nuts!  (I'm not able to upload the file as it contains confidential info).
The file is about 225kB with about 6 worksheets and some macros.  It’s stored in a folder below the standard OSX ‘shared’ folder.  Both users have identical permissions on these folders and this file.
What have I tried already?  Re-saving the file in a different place, renaming it, re-creating it by copying the contents to a blank file, repairing permissions on my partner’s user account, copying excel .plist files from my user to hers, deleting her .plist file & creating a new one.  None of these have worked.
System details ...  2.8GHz I5 iMac (late 2010 vintage), 8GB memory, OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  Excel for Mac 2011 v14.2.3 (auto updates on & all installed I believe)
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

    On the problem Mac...
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • "Save As" command with very slow Finder response in Tiger

Ever since upgrading to Tiger using the "Archive & Install" option, my applications have had very slow operation of the "Save As" command. The Finder takes a long time to open and display the Save As window with folders and file name etc. This has occurred on all of my computers - a PowerMac G5, an iMac G4 and a PowerBook G4. It has not changed with upgrades as far as 10.4.5. I have tried the following suggested in another post about slow Finder actions without success:
Refreshing and reblessing the following system files and the folder followed by reboot.
    1. /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
    2. /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
    3. /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/
Trashing the following files and a folder followed by reboot
    1. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxx.csstore
    2. /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-xxxxxx.csstore
    3. /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/
I have also deleted the /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file and rebooted.
Does anyone else have this problem and how do I solve it?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thank you Roger - this does seem to have solved the problem - my local Apple service people did not have an answer on this, so I'm grateful

  • CS4 apps are VERY slow to open Windows file browser with File Open or File Save As commands

We are running CS4 on Windows 7 with all available updates installed.   Photoshop and the other CS4 applications are VERY slow to open a Windows file browsing window to select files when File Open or File Save As menu options are run -- it can take as long as a minute or two for the window to open.  Once the window opens and a file is selected, then opening or saving the file is very quick.  The location of the default directory, whether it is on a local drive or a network drive, makes no difference.  Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

    Raphman02
The link that I posted earlier is off.  Read this one
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2501584.  I discovered in my network that the MS Office File Validation Patch made excel crawl when opening over the network though nothing else changed. At the time I was opening Excel on Office 2003.
You can manually turn this off by editing the registry and tunring it off.  Going forward I skipped the patch to keep my sanity.  Not sure if this is the same as your issue, but the support article will go into detail how to either have Fix it
clear the issue or change the proper registry keys.
    Hope this helps

  • VERY slow performance with CS4 + Save for web

Note: I have done a search for similar issues but can find nothing regarding CS4 and this particular issue. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz w/4GB of RAM and resources are aplenty when the issue occurs.
    Issue
My problem is that under certain circumstances the 'save as web' function can take upto 3 minutes before the diaglog box appears. I've had this for some time but only in the last couple of days did I notice something that might be relevant:
    Works
    1. Open 3 large TIFF files @ 120mb approx (mine are 3 processed RAW files from Capture One / 4200x5600@300dpi)
    2. Create a new adjustment layer for each image
    3. Resize each image to 72dpi @ 800x600
    4. Run a SmartSharpen & flatten layers
    5. In each tab (for each image) do 'save as web'
    6. 'Save as web' dialog appears in expected time
    VERY slow
    1. Open 3 large TIFF files @ 120mb approx (mine are 3 processed RAW files from Capture One / 4200x5600@300dpi)
    2. Create a new adjustment layer for each image
    3. Resize each image to 72dpi @ 800x600
    4. Run a SmartSharpen & flatten layers for each image
    5. In first tab do 'save as web'
    6. 'Save as web' dialog appears in expected time
    7. Close this document (tab)
    8. Go to the next image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    9. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
    10. Close this document (tab)
    11. Go to the last image (tab) and do 'save as web'
    12. Dialog box can take anything from 20secs to 3mins to appear.
As I can easily go through this process for 50-60 images you can imagine that it can waste over an hour of my time waiting for Photoshop to get it's act together. I assume it's something todo with memory allocation, or that it's processing previews for all three tabs on the first 'save as web', but in any respect it's very annoying. There seems nothing obviously wrong resource-wise at the time of doing these.
Would be interested if anyone else has this issue!
    Thanks!

I had the same problem when I setup a new computer this week. Here's what I had installed:
    Photoshop CS5
    Suitcase Fusion 3
The problem was that when I was in Photoshop and used the "Save for Web" export screen, the dropdown menu for the different export types (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc) would take an extremely long time to update the preview of the graphic.
After a few days of research , I found that Suitcase was conflicting with Photoshop. Here's how you fix the problem (or at least here's what I did with my situation):
    Open Suitcase
Go to "Tools", click "Manage Plugins"
    Deactivate the Photoshop plugin
This fixed the problem immediately and now my Photoshop" Save For Web" feature is working really fast. Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat.

  • Save to web and devices is very slow (CS5)

    Hi folks,
I have a problem with the "Save to web and devices" in my Photoshop CS5 (64-bit version). Doesn't matter if the image I am saving is large or tiny (8-bit/RGB), when opening this window everything goes in snail speed. All option boxes takes several seconds to initialize, if I change lets say from PNG to JPEG (doesn't really matter what format) it again uses several seconds to initialize. Also when hitting Save, more seconds goes before I can save.
The problem is only with Save to web and devices (and when starting PS if I chose my custom setup which utilizes a second monitor for the palettes).
This problem wasn't there when first installing PS5, but came later when applying updates to it. Do I overlook some option in preferences or is there anything I can do (besides from reinstalling) ?
    My system is:
Asus Rampage III Extreme with Intel i7 975 extreme edition (8 cores) and 12 GB memory.
2x Corsair SSD 120GB (linked in dual for the true 6 Gb/s port on the Asus motherboard)
    Thanks for any respons!
    PVP

Thanks for the responses, but none of these apply I am afraid.
The temp/scratch discs are moved to a another (plate) disc. As I already mentioned this problem wasn't appearant until one of the updates from Adobe was applied.
I could of course reinstall the packages, but if there is some magic setting I can change to fix this I would prefer that. The slowness is there no matter what size the image I want to save is at as well as affecting the user interface of the dialog itself, so this indicate it's a more subtle and low-level in the code.
I should perhaps state that I am what you can consider a professional computer user. Almost 30 years in the business mainly with software development and building computer hardware. I have eliminated most of the common reasons. This, to me, appears to be software related. I can also mention that starting Photoshop with many palettes on a secondary screen also is drawn up very slow way.
I can try to video record what is happending.

  • Save Search Running Very Slow

I have a custom page with a query Bean and have Simple, Advanced and View Panels enabled. My Search functionality works great, very fast. However, when I save a search... any search... no matter how small the resultset...When I go into the views panel... The views run VERY slow. The results do eventually come back, but it takes 3-5 minutes compared to 3-5 seconds when I run the same search from my search panels.
Does anybody know what OAF does in the background of the Views Panel? Does it alter the SQL differently then when I simply run a search?
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Need help with Leopard: screen saver glitch and very slow internet

I performed an erase and install leopard 10.5.1 on my upgraded G4 AGP Sawtooth Computer several times. Has anyone had the following 2 problems with leopard and any suggestions to solve them? Apple telephone support has not helped thus far. The Issues include:
1-Internet surfing (Safari and Firefox) is extremely slow worse than dial-up. I have verizon fios. Upgrading leopard to 10.5.3 and upgrading Safari did not help and took about 10 hours to download when it should have been quick.
2- A screen saver glitch: When I click on screen saver such as beach I get this message. " Screen saver "beach" did not load properly. Error Can't load bundle" When I click on the screen savers folder, there is nothing in it. Desktop pictures work fine.
    Computer upgrades include:
Processor-OWC Mercury Extreme [email protected] 2MB L3 Cache
    2GB memory
    Two 120GB hardrives.
    Firmware is updated.
Thus far, all this was done:
Apple exchanged install disk. Same results with new disk.
I ran disk utility and everything is ok including permissions.
I performed a safe boot with apple support.
I Threw away cache folder and com.apple.safari.plist
Tried firefox with same very slow surfing results.
I even checked file system structure problem fsck -yf. Everything was ok
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Althought the behavior is the same in all three accounts, if all are working accounts I would suspect there is something all of them have installed that could be the source of the problem. Try creating a new admin account, and leave it just the way Apple creates it--don't add anything nor modify it in any way. Log into that account and see if it works correctly.
If that account is also misbehaving, try restarting, and when you hear the chime hold down the Shift key so that you boot into Safe Mode (you'll see a notice in the splash screen about being in Safe Mode). The boot will take longer (perhaps even considerably longer) as the system runs disk repair, empties some caches, disables all third party startup items, as well as all Apple startup items not strictly necessary for the machine to run. See the menus and Dock now behave correctly.
Since the problem is evidently somewhat intermittent in nature it may take some patience to discover what is wrong. You might also disconnect everything that didn't come with the Mac, reboot, and use only the Apple keyboard and Apple mouse and run for a bit to see how that works. If you are using a third party mouse that required installing something that would be my guess as a "prime suspect" for the cause of the problems.

  • AP1231G-A-K9 access points - very slow throughput - Is TKIP the issue?

I recently setup our small office network using the following setup:
Cablemodem <--> router <--> 1231AP(role root bridge with wireless clients) <-> 1231AP(role non-root bridge with wireless clients)
    Code on both APs: 12.3(8)JEE
Office network generally has less than 3 wireless clients connected at any one time to either AP.
AP's are a mere 50' apart; clients are all less than 30' from either AP; they all show excellent signal and connected at 54mbps signaling rates.
All is/has been working very well & very stable with the exception of speed. We have business class service from RR, approx 25mbps dl, 2mbps ul. Any hardwired client to the router switch ports are able to download at speeds averaging 23mbps. Any wireless client connected to either AP is never able to exceed download speeds of 5mbps. With no other wireless clients connected except my one test client, I was not able to exceed 5mbps throughput from either AP that I connected to.
I can confirm that the ethernet connection between the router and root bridge is up at 100mbps-FD and not showing any errors:

Are these very slow thoughput speeds normal of this hardware combination?
I did much searching/googling and found claims that by eliminating TKIP it almost doubles the actual wireless speeds our clients can obtain. Is there any truth to this?
Any suggestions or recommendations without changing hardware would be very welcome.
    Thanks in Advance!

    =============

Ok, thanks for the explanation - I understand. But even at a 22mbps signaling rate shouldn't I be seeing throughputs greater than 5-5.5mbps especially since this location is literally 100% free of any outside interference and the interfaces definitely show the clients and non-root bridge (when connected) all being at the highest rate of 54mbps? I tried even in the same room, approximately 40' away, total line of sight, no obstructions, between my laptop and the root AP.
I disconnected the non-root bridge and connected directly to the root bridge during my testing. I was still only able to achieve approx 5.5mbps download. Adding back in the non-root bridge and re-connecting to it I notice slightly lower throughput, approx 5mbps. During testing, my laptop was the only device connected to the network, all other clients were shut off.
Here are the int stats (I've never reset the counters):

All the other rates, 2-12mbps show single or double digit packet/byte counts until I get to the 36mbps section of each interface:

I will try disabling the rates below 12mbps and re-test.
I would like to try disabling all encryption and try as well.
Do you know if the AP's will associate if there is zero encryption?
