Very slow speed on wifi network
I have a wireless network provided by an Extreme-N base station. When I copy files between Mac Pro and MacBook (connected via wi-fi, both 802.11n capable), the maximum transfer speed is 1-2 MB/s.
Some network info: encryption is WPA2 Personal, radio mode is 802.11 n (b/g compatible), channel is automatic, transmit power is set to 50%. Range is unlikely the matter because speed doesn't increase when both computers are placed next to the router.

I did like you advised. Now files are copied at 3MB/s. Link speed is 270Mbps on Mac Pro and 300Mbps on Macbook.

I had to switch it back to b/g compatible because there are two 2g iphones that also need to be online.
One strange thing about Macbook is that Info window in Network Utility shows ethernet info in the Airport pane, Airport info in Firewire pane and firewire info in Ethernet pane.
Any ideas how to raise the speed at least in N only mode?

I don't know if it matters, but I've forgot to mention that my AEBS is early 2007, the one without gigabit ethernet.

T500 running very very slow on specific WIFI network only???
Hi,
This problem is driving me absolutely crazy. It means that I can only use my PC at home if I use a cable connection to the router....
Problem is that on my home network my T500 is having a very very slow access to the internet via wireless. On all other wifi network I have connected to there is no issue and speed is high.
Also several colleagues have been here with their T500 and none of them experience any issues with speed. We all run on the same t500 model, ordered at the same time and with same setup. We use Windows XP.
I have tried to update all drivers, I have called my network provider who have updated router software, changed frequency and all other things they could do to avoid interference etc.
I have two other PC's at home - none of them have any issues.
I have done a web seacrh and could see that I am far from alone with this strange issue of a T500 being slow on only a specific network (often a home network). Many different routers are involved, so I dont think it is arouter problem (would also mean that my colleagues identical t500s would have issues right??).
Have there been any reolution to this T500 problem??

2.4GHZ clients very slow speeds with AP3600

We currently have a test WiFi SSID setup that uses basic mac filtering on our WLC's
WLAN is configured with WPA and WPA2 L2 Security with WPA Policy and WPA2 Encryption.
For some reason we seem to be getting very slow speeds on clients with 2.4GHZ
for example speedtest.net I get 70mg upload and 65mg download on 5GHZ devices and about 1-3mg download and 1mg upload for 2.4GZ devices!
AP36021 are dual band with 4 channels (2 x 2.4Ghz and 2 x 5Ghz)
fyi - There are no dropped packets on the client stats via Prime mgmt that use 2.4GHZ
Any ideas here?Foreign Primary WLC (let me know if you need the Anchor controller ouput as well)

Got a new EA4500 for X'mas
After setting up the new router I could only access youtube and google at a very slow speed, however I can not access anyother website - facebook, yahoo and etc...
it would ping yahoo and google no problem
friend told me to do a tracert some ip address and his conclusion was the router is fully functional
ISP uses PPPoE, Im sure that the username and password are correct.
upgraded to the latest firmware manually, and holy hell accessing the router with no internet access is a pain in the **bleep**!

It might be a DNS problem. Release & renew ip on the status page of your router. Just make sure you are already using the latest Linksys smart wifi firmware, reset the router & reconfigure. You can download the firmware here http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/EA4500. -

Very Slow Speed & WIFI lagging?
Hi all, I am a Broadband customer with 8meg max download speed, over the last 3 months I have gone from over 8meg to now 223kb download speed, I have spoken to about 4 diffrent people at BT who go through the same things over and over again!!!
My issue is that BT have just installed FTB which is only 50yrds away and since they started messing around in that box my speed has dropped completely and not happy, they say I have an issue with my internal wiring but BT put a separate new line in only 6months ago with a strting download speed of 11meg and our Hub 2 is connected straight to it with just my pc and printer connected to the Hub, all other gadgets are connected through wifi and in some cases with two or more devices connected it bombs out altogether.
Is it me or is this all a ploy just to get me to sign up to Infinity in which I could receive speeds up to 100meg?. I was think of upgrading before all this hassle but now just feel as thou I may be forced to? any help would be appreciated.......... BT are yet to get back to me on my latest report of this issue.Welcome to this customer to customer forum.

Time Capsule and Thunderbolt HDD very slow access via wifi enabled MacBook Air
I have a Q-RAID thunderbolt external drive attached to the Time Capsule. I use it to archive movies for viewing via a media server around the house (mostly via WIFI). Using my MacBook Air to access the files, performance is very spotty. Sometimes it's very fast (monitoring the "Data Received" via Activity Monitor typically > 3MB/sec) and sometimes it's very very sluggish (Data Received < 200kb/sec). Any idea? It's not a home network issue b/c when it's slow, i test it immediately against a networked iMac and i can access large files just fine (Data Received > 2MB/sec). Thanks.
I have a Q-RAID thunderbolt external drive attached to the Time Capsule.
You are killing it.. The connection on the TC is USB2. USB is slow.. slow .. slow interface. It is very CPU intensive.. and depending on what the TC is doing it can slow it down like crazy.. the fact is, the TC was designed to plug in a simple drive.. not a raid array. The access to files in the array .. frankly it is a wonder it works at all. But you should move the Q-RAID to a computer with thunderbolt port and share the disk to the network.. it will go at 10times the speed. or maybe 50times or 100times when you have slow speed. TC is not suitable. -
Slow speeds with roaming network
I just got a new HTC One M8 which has the wireless AC capability. I am getting really slow speeds on my home network and hoping someone can help.
My current setup is as follows - a motorola surfboard modem hooked up (ethernet) to the new model Airport Extreme (with the AC), from there I have a powerline adapter hooked up to another part of the house where I have the older model Airport Extreme (I think 5th gen) - and I am using this in roaming mode to extend the signal.
This works fantastic for my devices which run on N, and everything flies with little to no issues no matter where I am in the house. But this phone - it is incredibly slow. When I run speed tests, at times I am getting decent download on the phone (20mbs) but getting absolutely 0 upload (literally 0.0 mbs). It works from time to time but is cutting in and out frequently.. So - What I am wondering is, would the fact that the router downstairs broadcasting an AC signal conflict with the upstairs broadcasting an N? I am wondering if the phone is constantly switching from one band to another and causing my speed issues? I tried the wifi on another network which just had an N signal, and had no issues whatsoever so I know it is something to do with my home network.
Again - I don't have this issue with any of my other devices (iphone 5, laptop, Ipad etc) so I don't believe the issue lies with my ISP, just looking for advice or if anyone knows if this setup would cause issues with AC devices? I like having the 2nd router upstairs as it really boosts the signal for my N devices and also gives me the ability to hard wire the PS4, xbox etc - so I definitely want to keep it setup - but am thinking I might need to set it up as a new network and turn off the roaming.. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.i'd tweak it and think you're making it worse by having 2 different networks, both your routers are very capable dual mode so you should let the router and the devices decide which band to use (2 vs 5) vs your choosing it for them
once your network is setup correctly, restart any stationary clients ensuring that they are grabbing the strongest signal present
keep flatex downstairs, factory reset it and create a new network, trust me you'll want to factory reset to avoid issues when setting up the towerex
for now, put towerex next to flatex, factory reset it, and connect an eth cable from LAN on flatex to WAN (circle icon) on towerex
give it a minute or 2, open airport utility and you'll get the option to setup towerex as a WIRED extension, do this
now the painful part, play around with different set of electrical outlets to find the ones that give your towerex the best connection
remember, to turn the wifi on/off for the device you're using to test the towerex after each move or it will likely be connected to the flatex -
Very Slow Speed & BT seem unable to fix

First time post and would very much welcome anyone’s view on my problem.
Apologies if it’s a bit long!
The problem: Very slow download speed, going as low as 50kbs. Prior to this issue my download speed was around 4.5Mb but since this issue started it has reduced to around 1Mb first thing in the morning which decreases as the day goes on.
The results of a previous BT speedtest were Download Speed 190Kb / DSL connection rate 6.62 Mb (Downstream) / 448Kb (Upstream) IP Profile for line 5Mb
(All tests were carried out using a single Windows 7 desktop pc with a wired connection to a home hub 2)
6 Feb – Contacted BT to advise of speed problem and was informed that they would need to run a test which would take 48 hours.
8 Feb – Contacted BT to be advised it could be a problem with the home hub or network not passing signal. Further line test carried out and was told that it is not a fault within my property. They would pass problem to Network Faults Dept so they could reconfigure the line and they would call me 9 Feb.
9 Feb – BT Called and following a search on this site I mentioned that the noise margin seemed high (13.3dB/26.0dB) He said it should be 6dB and put in a request for it to be lowered and was told the speed should increase by 11 Feb. (Noise margin was under 6dB by the next day)
10 Feb – BT (Level 2 Help) called to advise the broadband connection is in the stabilisation phase.
11 Feb – Called BT to advise no change in speed. They run test and now say fault is inside the house and an engineer would be required. Oh and it would be a chargeable visit. I queried this as the advisor I spoke to 8 Feb said it was not a problem inside the house but his response was that it was originally a network fault, which was fixed, but now it is a problem inside the house. Sounds Fishy!
Call was transferred to the department that arrange engineers and to cut a long story short it was agreed that it would not be chargeable visit.
13 Feb – BT called to advise an engineer visit 14 Feb
14 Feb – Openreach engineer tested wiring and all was OK. Just to be double sure he replaced the master socket to a 2 port type (hub in top port and telephone in bottom) and was told this type does not require a DSL filter. He also changed the Home Hub 2 to a Home Hub 3 and after still no improvement he concluded BT were throttling my broadband. I’m not sure if he reset my profile but said it should start to improve over the next couple of days.
16 Feb – Still no improvement so I called BT again. They wanted to test the line again and it apparently came back with a network fault and it would take another 48 hours. I then asked to speak to a Manager who reviewed my problem history and transferred me to someone in the Network Department. She did a bit of tinkering and the speed went from 200kb to 400kb, then another bit of tinkering and it went to 550kb. At last, i thought, we were making slow progress but since this call, the speed has decreased again to 130kb. She said that I have to wait another 4 days for it to possibly improve and will call me 21 Feb. They keep telling me I have to wait 48 hours here, 3 days there but unfortunately I now have little faith that there will be any improvements in 4 days time. Is this acceptable or am I being too impatient.

WRT54G always reseting and very slow speeds.
I don't know whats going on, I have a WRT54G router thats completely up to date with the firmware and the such. I am connected to it via Ethernet cable, and only use the wireless part for my videogame stuff, so its not just the wireless network thats messing up, its the hardwired that is losing connection. Every half hour or so the router loses its connection and I'll either have to just wait for it to reconnect or have to power down the router (and sometimes the modem, or restarting the whole computer) and power it back up for it to be able to connect again. I have tried completely reseting the routers settings and uninstalling the EasyLink Advisor and reinstalling that and reconfiguring the router but its still doing this. When I am able to connect, my internet speeds are very slow. I am used to getting 200-300k/sec but now I am getting maybe 80k/sec when downloading. Is it possibly my router thats just messed up? thanks in advance(also, when i finished typing this my internet shut down again, and I had to restart the computer multiple times and now im just plugged into the modem so i get a stable connection..) Airport Express as very slow in "extend wireless network" mode
Hi!
I am using a Airport Extreme (fourth generation) as a wireless router and a Airport Express 802.11n in "extend wireless network" mode.
I've set the Airport Extreme mode to 802.11n only - and all devices connect to the Airport Extreme as 802.11n Clients properly.
But as soon as they connect to the Airport Express, they only work in 802.11b/g mode (although they are capable of n)
and the connection is very slow - around 1Mb/s:

Can i force the Airport Express station to accept only "n" connections to speed up my file tranfers?

mattWhere is the AirPort Express located in relation to the area that needs more wireless coverage?
Ideally, it would be at a point that is about half the distance between the AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more wireless coverage....and....there would be no obstructions like walls and/or ceilings in the signal path....tough to do in most homes, so do the best that you can.
Avoid placing the Express down low on the wall and use an extension cord to get it up as high as possible with a free look into the room.
The Express will normally "extend" what it receives, but you could try the following to see if it helps:
Temporarily, change the Wireless Mode setting on the AirPort Express to "Create a wireless network" and change the Radio Mode to "802.11n only".
(You may have to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Radio Mode selection box to see the "802.11n only" choice). Then change the Wireless Mode back to "Extend a wireless network" and Update. -
Hi everyone!
One of my clients has uses a 4th generation Apple AirPort Extreme. It's a small network with only 3 to 5 users.
All users connect via Ethernet cable, but one individual recently moved her iMac 21 to a spot in the office that doesn't have a wired network connection. Although she's able to work fine via a wireless connection in almost every respect, printing to their Canon ir C3080 copier is painfully slow over wireless. It doesn't matter what she tries to print - even a small text file takes up to five minutes to print. When I move and connect her iMac to the network via Ethernet, the printing problem disappears.
I then tested the other computers in the office and my computer for this problem and found that they all printed very slowly over the WiFi connection.
Their AirPort base station is up-to-date with the most current firmware, and all the computers are running the most updated versions of Snow Leopard. I'm running Lion on my computer, by the way.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem? I don't have another printer I can test in this office, but I think that may be the next thing I have to do.
Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Very poor connection with wifi network with mini iPad.
I recently bought à new mini iPad. The connection with wifi network is lost very often and therefor not Stable. I tried the tips such as forgetting the network and connecting again, but that doesn't help. What can I do?
Do #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Very slow speeds and ridiculous email and bill for...

i have several issues. I have been a very satisfied customer for over 15 years until early summer of this year:
1. My broadband speeds remain painfully slow despite 3 complaints and investigations. In fact my line is still connected to the test line as I was advised to do and I have never had a call back as promised.
2. I have now received an email message to say I have used 90gb at a cost of £50. This is almost all uploads. i upload nothing and this figure is impossible. Until June my usage was quite small and I came nowhere near my limit on option 2. Nothing has changed with my usage since then. I do not download or stream films and do not upload large quantities. I probably would stream films, but the slow speed does not allow it.
3. I spent over an hour on the phone trying to sort this out today, but was not helped by a succession of people who barely understood the situation and had even less understanding of customer service. I have now emailed, but have had a message saying it might be 72 hours before a reply.
Any advice would be really helpful as I am at my wits end

Go to Solution.Ok....since the original post the problem has continued. I have spent literally hours on the phone to people who say all the same things and never come up with a solution.
The test results are below. I do not experience speeds as reported. And if I use another tester it correctly comes out as about 1 4 - 1.9. or even lower. The upload usage is still showing as high....but it is just not possible. I have now reset the hub wireless key, but I have not shared this with anyone in range. Apple TV is now disconnected after it was going to take 20 hours to download a film!
I am at my wits end with this and really do not want the hassle of changing provider but even after 20 years BT broadband I am so very close to that.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
