Very slow sync

I've been experiencing very slow sync times (2.5 min) since iTunes 9.0.3. I thought that it might be a bug in that version which would be resolved in 9.1, but the issue persists. I only ever sync Apps, the rest of the categories I manage manually, yet hitting the Sync button still results in iTunes hanging for 2.5 min whilst displaying the "Syncing iPod..." message. So far I've tried restoring my iPod, reinstalling iTunes and running diagnostics, which showed everything was working fine. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Update: If I choose not to sync Apps then the sync proceeds normally. This happens even after I tried deleting all Apps on the iPod and in iTunes.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • ITunes 10.5 very slow syncing with idevices not a backup issue

I have the latest itunes 10.5.2 installed on my 32 bit Windows 7 pc.  Ever since i upgraded my ipod 4 and iphone 4 to ios 5 it syncs very slowly with itunes (1 song aka 5 mb every 2 min and takes like 7 min to start syncing). i have tried restoring my phone and ipod with a new profile, making my ipod or iphone backup to icloud so that kills the long backup issue, reinstallled windows and just have itunes, reinstall itunes and wipeout the appledrivers then reinstall.  The devices sync fine when i use a mac that isnt mine. i also have tried outher windows pcs with no luck. im out of ideas and im tired of wating 4 hrs just for a audiobook or a movie to sync.

Yeah seriously, I have my first gen iPhone and never had a issue with it. Blackberry always had a horrible desktop manager for the PC for YEARS and I always had to debug the issues myself for clients. Unfortunately for a lot of my clients the Blackberry is a better device for business, just horrible desktop software.
Eventually I'll push my client to move over to hosted exchange server, But for right now before making that push, I need to resolve this issue with the Blackberry sync. I would hate for all the work and conversion over to the Mac to be wasted over a simple issue that possibly can be resolved by a simple setting I'm over looking.
It's also a possibility the extremely slow syncing can be caused by years of unorganized entering of contacts, but trying to sort out over 2000 contacts would be near impossible for a person with a busy schedule.

  • Apple TV song streaming interrupted, very slow sync with keynote

When I try to play a song or a playlist from iphone (4S and 5)  or ipad (mini) via Airplay on Apple Tv, the music is interrupted several times, sometimes the first track, sometimes after 3 track, no rules. Wifi signal is good.
Other issue with Keynote on the iPad. I am trying to mirror a deck but it is very slow, I have to wait 2 to 3 sec between each slide
    can someone help me?
    thank you

Thanks for the reply. I used iStumbler on the MacBook Pro and could see three other networks besides my own, and they were all on Channel 11. Mine is on Channel 6 and, given there's no overlap between channels that are separated by 5 channels or more, there should be no interference.
However, the Apple TV reports more channels than iStumbler does and there's no way to know what channel they're on. (Hmmmm, maybe I should move the Mac to the vicinity of the ATV 2.)
However, my local network is involved when the MacBook Pro connects to the internet - I'm using Wi-Fi, not Ethernet - so, if the MacBook Pro can upload at 1MB/sec. to the internet (and that's throttled), why is it uploading at 50-100KB/sec. to the ATV 2?

  • ITunes VERY SLOW Syncing Optimizing Photos

iTunes 10.1.1.4 is so,so slow when i sync photos to iphone.
All photos are already sized to 480x320 72PDI. there are 579 photos in my library for a total of only 85MB's and itunes after 30 minutes is only on 33 of 579. this will take at least a day to do just 86MB of photos. if you dont fix this soon I can see you will loose a lot of customers.

    This is soooooooooooooo bad...
I have tryed now for 3 days to get 21 MB of photos synced, yes that right just 21 MB, it has taken over 12 hours so far. I have to stop so I can use my phone. looks like I might be able to finish it tonight.
you need to start over on the photo sync part of iTunes.

  • IPhone 5s VERY slow sync (or stalled?)

    MacBook Pro 12" 2.4 GHz C2D, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD, OSX Mavericks
    iPhone 5s 64GB  iOS 7.0.4
Had been about a month since my iPhone had been synced to my MacBook Pro (even though it is set up to back-up wenever on wifi, it hasn't - I think another issue).
So I connected, primarily to have access to several voice memos.  Sync began, then arrived at "step 4" where it remained for over 2 hours with no progress.  I finally "ejected" my iPhone, quit iTunes, and then tried again.  It appears to be syncing correctly this time... but what's up???

Try downloading via Cellular data or while connected to another Wi-Fi network.  I suspect something in the router settings is wrong an causing the issue.

  • Very slow sync speeds since update to iTunes 7.4.1

I have two ATVs on a 802.11n 5 GHz network. At some point recently, I suspect the upgrade of iTunes to 7.4.1, both ATVs started to sync extremely slowly. For example, a photo takes almost a minute. Activity Monitor shows an outbound network transfer rate of around 60 kB/sec. All other devices on the wireless network are seeing normal transfer rates - around 6 MB/sec for file transfers.
I reset one of the ATVs to its factory settings and set it up again, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

Okay, just the extremely obvious, but you have tried rebooting your base stations and any and all computers attached to the network, right?
I just ask because yesterday my two AE stopped working on my otherwise reliable (and working) wireless network. Everything else was working just fine, but only by rebooting everything (turning it all off and on again) was I able to get the AEs to see the network again. I know -- I'm sure you've already done this a couple dozen times but it never hurts to ask.

  • Very slow syncing...

    Hey All..
I posted on here recently about my TV taking so long to sync. It is still going although I have disconected it fr a day or 2 to give it a rest.
I called  and they weren't much use. The guy there said he hadn't ever heard of such problems and sent me a bunch of emails. He was talking about doing my first sync wired. He kinda explained it and I also read the manual but it doesn't really make sense to me...bit of *******. If one of you could explain to me how to connect wired that'd be awesome. Here is what I have:
-Virgin 20MB Broadband from Motorola SB5100 modem
-Ethernet cable to brand new (n) Airport Extreme
    -MacBook Pro 2.33Ghz 3GB RAM
    -160GB TV
-60+ GB of data on my iTunes.
Please help as this is killing me. I am also using OS X 10.4.10 and the latest TV update too if this helps.
    Hope you can help..
    Thanks all
    -RICKY

Well yes, I suppose 4.10 could also be a culprit, tell me do you repair permissions before and after major software updates/instals, I find this usually eliminates problems that others experience after such updates. I'm not sure that 4.10 changed anything related to networking and the only thing I can think of is changes to USB, by any chance is your library on an external USB drive, however even if it was, I suspect you would have had issues with itunes if this had anything to do with it at all.
An ethernet cable I assume would be connected between the tv and the extreme, still leaving your mac/extreme connection as wifi. If I had to take a guess at where you network issue lay, I'd say between your mac/extreme, so I'm not sure how much difference a wired connection between the extreme and the tv would make, however since they are so close, it won't be such an effort to try it and it can't be anything but a good thing anyway and it would reduce the load on your wifi network.

  • Using Outlook 2011 for mac and syncing blackberry very slow

I just bought 2 pcs of Mcabook pro. one for me and second for my cousin. we both have same office usage.i have installed office 2011. i use contacts / events / tasks of outlook and sync it with my blackberry curve. previously i was using Windows OS and i am so much used to it with its easy functionalities. Since last 15 days i have not done any work in my office as all time i am just involved in setting up one or another thing in my Macbook. i am really so much fed up and frustrated that i am thinking of switching back to Windows. i have some current issues like
Airport disconnects automatically anytime. after then i have to restart the system that is the only way. it shows as connected but i dont find my home network or internet. after restarting it works !!! it happens 4-5 times in a day...
Sync with blackberry is very slow. i do have Approx 2500 contacts / 300 tasks and 10-15 events. but it takes approx 10 times more time than i was doing with Windows.
in the blackberry desktop manager there is only one option of syncing i.e. Two way sync. what if i only want to transfer data from Macbook to Blackberry or from Blackberry to Macbook?
data sync is not perfect also. every time some entries goes missing.
i want to use ical for events and tasks.. but i dont find List view for events which is not convinient.
i have my e mails in Outlook 2011 for mac. what if i want to transfer my mail to mail for mac?
i will be obliged if anyone can help and show that my INR 70000.00 * 2 is not wasted... Frustrated Really...

    Good luck with that.

    * Click the '''menu button''' and choose '''Options'''.
    * Select the '''Sync''' panel.
    * Click ''''''Sign in'''''' and enter your password in the sign in page.

  • Very slow mobile home syncs (Mac OS X 10.7)

I have a mobile account set up on my Lion server (10.7.1) that I access from two mac clients (an iMac and a MacBook Air) - I've only been doing this since Lion/Lion Server came out so I can't compare the performance with Snow Leopard.
The problem I'm seeing is very, very long times to sync from either client machine back to the server.
This applies to sync on log in and log out, as well as the regular syncs that take place while I'm logged in.
For example, before I went to bed last night, my iMac (mid 2010 27" i7 16GB RAM running Lion 10.7.1) started a home sync of 1.37GB total size.
When I got up this morning, around 10 hours later, the same sync was still going - now at "78 of 118 items - 1.37GB of 1.37GB - 83% complete".
It's not stuck, because I do see the name of the sync'd file changing every few minutes.
This is over a gigabit ethernet network. I have a similar problem when the MacBookAir tries to sync (usually over WiFi but I have tried once or twice with it connected by Ethernet to see if it made any difference - none).
It's getting to the point where I'm seriously considering abandoning mobile accounts, going back to local ones and just syncing a small subset of my files between the iMac and MacBookAir.
Has anyone else come across a problem like this? Found a solution?
    Systems info:
Server: mid-2007 mac mini, 500GB 7200 rpm HDD, 4GB RAM running Mac OS X 10.7.1 Server
    iMac: mid-2010 27" iMac, 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM running Mac OS X 10.7.1
    MacBookAir: 2011 13" MacBookAir, 256GB SSD, 4GB RAM, running Mac OS X 10.7.1
    Gigabit ethernet network
    Good signal/data rates on Wifi
    Mobile account size around 45GB

In the end, I 'solved' this problem by throwing money at it and buying myself a mid-2011 Mac Mini server (any excuse!).
After the initial slow sync (my home weighs in at around 45GB) subsequent syncs take a matter of seconds now instead of hours. What does tend to slow things down (to minutes rather than seconds) is if I swap between machines - for example, if I've been logged in as the mobile account on my MBA, log out then log in as the same account on my iMac.
Nevertheless, orders of magnitude improvement in performance so that the mobile accounts are now usable.
Perhaps my poor old mid-2007 Mac Mini just wasn't up to the task - though seeing as it's mostly just I/O, and it has a 1GB Ethernet port and a 7,200rpm 500GB disc in it (which I fitted, upgrading the original 5,400rpm 80GB HD) I'm quite surprised.

  • ITunes sync is very slow?

iTunes sync is very slow with several minutes of the spinning color dot.  Usually happens during the last step (7) of the sync.  I then discover that even though I marked to sync all photos from Aperture file, photos are not synced.  iTunes seems to be getting more and more of a problem.  Any thoughts?

As above. Everything is perfect, but when i want to sync my music with my iphone 4 or with my ipad it takes forever. Any suggestions ?

I have very slow itunes since SP1, but have found a remarkably easy work round.  Start itunes, start what you want to do - like sync to ipod et al, then just click the windows 'show desktop icon' and itunes does the stuff properly!
