Very slow typing (just in mail)

hi,
Im quite new here and I would kindly ask you for your help.
I have had my iPhone 4 for some months now. It was my first apple product. Everything so far had gone pretta good, except some problems with the updates.
For about two months now I am also writing and checking my emails on the iPhone. After a few weeks, typing mails became very very slow. The program opened as quickly as before but I had to wait 5-10 seconds to at least one word I have typed. After a few days i updatet my iPhone to the newest version and everything went fine again. But now, about 2 weeks later the problem is appearing again. I have just tried to type one short sentence and it took me nearly two minutes. I can hear the sound of typing (klick) but no letters can be seen on the display. After waiting about one minute, the text appears. Everything else in the mail app is working fine (quick changes between the different files and so on)
I have checked the settings and everything should be fine according to what is recommended here and the size of the mails I have still in the entrance and in other files is really small.
Please be so kind and tell me what to do. I need the problem very very often and need to find a solution.
Thank you very much in advance
Gina

Thank you once again ckuan,
I have found out something different now. Every time I leave Safari from one special site, mail does not work after that. I changed to another site on the Internet, changed into the mail app and everything was working just fine. To make sure that this is it I changed again to my usual homepage, typing was again not possibe in the mail. Further I have just made sure that I wait a few more seconds after this small wheel stops turning after the actualisation and the problem so far does not longer appear. I hope this will stay like that.
(By the way, I have found that in an older discussion from 2008, where it helped with an older version, where the same problem appeared.)

Having trouble with the iOS 8.1.1 download.  Very slow. Just keeps saying preparing update for about 4 hours now. Help

    Hello there, Cmm405.
If you're updating your iPad with an over-the-air iOS update, the following Knowledge Base article offers up some practical steps for troubleshooting some of the issues that can arise:
Resolve issues with an over-the-air iOS update - Apple Support
In your instance, these sections may prove particularly useful:
Download takes a long time, or you can't reach update server
iOS updates require a persistent Internet connection, and the time it takes to download the update will vary according to the size of the update and your Internet speed. You can use your device normally while downloading the iOS update, and iOS will notify you when you can install the update. To improve the speed of the download, avoid downloading other content.
If you get a message that "an error occurred downloading iOS," try again later. If the issue persists, try updating your device in another network or use iTunes to update your device. Learn more about iOS updates.
    Update does not complete
If you're installing the update and the progress bar appears to move slowly, be patient. The time an update takes depends on the size of the update and the number of files on the device.
When you're updating over the air, keep your device connected to a power source so that it doesn't run out of power. If your device does run out of power, connect it to a power source and turn on the device to let the update or restore complete.
If the update never completes and the progress bar hasn't moved for an extended time, try restarting your device. If you still see the issue after you restart, see what to do if your device appears frozen or won't start.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • New folder, very slow typing response

Just bought my 2nd 13" mb pro from the apple store, had them install an addition 2g memory before I took it home and ever since I opened the package a couple weird things are happening.
    1) In entourage, when I goto make a new sub-folder below my INBOX I type in the name of the folder and the type is very very slow, never keeps up and it jumbles the words in the wrong positions. Eg. I type FITNESS on the keyboard, and it comes up NIFITESS and is very slow doing that. Whats the deal? New laptop, original and registered office installed. (almost like it has low memory)
    2) The system sometimes will hang for 5-10 seconds doing normal tasks, always comes back but it acts like it has memory issues
    Any help?

I am going to take her in tomorrow, since its new there is no reason why I shouldn't. The PRAM reset "seems" to have fixed the issue. Just not sure why I would have to reset that on a brand new machine 2 hours after it was turned on for the first time, makes me think something else is brewing in there.

  • Very Slow Typing

I have a document where every character typed takes 1 second to display. This makes typing almost impossible. I haven't been able to figure this one out. I am actually getting ready to start a new document using this one as a template. Here are some of the details and what I have tried:
    Single document 30 pages long
There are many internal cross references, but no external cross references
    Small TOC
Most paragraph styles are 2-column. Headings are 1-column (text frame is single column)
A lot of graphics, 3 to 4 per page. Inserted in-line on their own text line.
Original problem didn't happen until the original document was 80% complete.
    Things I have tried:
    Exported/imported as IDML
Changed styles to be single column and set text frame to 2-column
Break text flow at major headings (new page)
Wiped out the whole document and copy/paste back in as unformatted text
Because I am creating a new manual based on this manual, I have deleted most of the original text and graphics. It is down to 10 pages now, but the problem still exists.

RTS: Actually, the way my cookbook is designed, it reflows pretty much every time I make a change. I don't have one recipe per page, but instead have them in a fairly compact format--several recipes per page, much like the Fanny Farmer cookbook. The book has 30 or so chapters (about 300 pages). It has cross-references (I restored them after deleting them didn't help) and it is not fully indexed but part-way there (I am a professional indexer, so I can index my own work).
Joel:  I am in the process of trying PeterHol's suggestion.  I am converting all my text frames to single column and turning column spanning off in all paragraph styles throughout the book. I tried changing the styles in one chapter and then synchronizing with the other chapters, but InDesign crashed. I tried synchronizing just a few chapters at a time. ID crashed. I tried synchronizing just one chapter at a time. Crash. After some experimentation, it seems that the changes need to be done in this order to avoid ID crashing:
Change the text frames to one column instead of two.
Import the non-span paragraph styles. (After I change the text frames, I still can't synchronize--ID still crashes, even on one chapter.)
Unfortunately, my basic text frame object style isn't working the way I would expect it to, so I have to change the text frames manually page by page. I would expect to be able to redefine the text frame object style to just be one column and then have all the frames update, but that isn't working. Instead, all the frames then show that they have the basic text frame style, but with an override, and I don't know how to make it so that the new style applies to all of them in one operation. Right-clicking on the object style (with one text frame selected) and choosing "Apply style, clear overrides" isn't working. Neither are any of the other choices for applying the style. No matter what, the frame still has two columns, even though the style is now defined as one column.
So now I am going through each chapter one at a time, page by page, changing the text frame object style, then changing each frame manually (fortunately, that's pretty fast: select frame, press Ctrl-B, type the number 1 [because the number of columns is automatically selected], press Enter, go to next page, repeat). After that, I import the non-span paragraph styles.
I actually don't mind this process because I may redo my style entirely, and it's been a while since I have gone through my entire book, so it is nice to see what it looks like while letting my creative mind work on a new design.
If I still have the slow problem after this process, after I cry a bit, I might share the files.
Edit: Not sure why I thought it was 30 chapters. It is 16 chapters, a bit under 300 pages. Unfortunately, I got to a certain point and now I cannot open any files--ID crashes as soon as I try to open either a chapter or the book file.

  • Mail very slow to get new mail after Lion upgrade

After I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion my Mail application has become very sluggish. It takes ages to show new mail from my Gmail account. It seems to spend ages downloaded messages. If I access my Gmail via Safari it is virtually instant.
    Any advice most welcome!

I had a similar problem and it was related to my wireless network settings.  The Lion upgrade had created a second wireless network setup named Apple 888.b1 on my airport/time capsule.  I deleted that second phantom one so it was just back to the one that I had setup and everything is fine again.
So if your broadband connction is wireless you might check the wireless settings and see if a second network setup was created.

My iMac has been sluggish for a long time; finally got around to posting here for help!
I've tried using Onyx to clean it up and it helped a little, but it seems as if everything freezes up and forget about mail; I use apple mail with gmail (google docs) and it is constantly indexing, etc. I need to use the web browser to answer email and it's just not what I want from apple.
    Please help!
    Thanks

  • Firefox 36x is very slow on Yahoo Beta Mail. Sometimes unresponsive

    Hello All,
Firefox 36x in unresponsive when logged onto the New beta of Yahoo mail. It hangs up when scrolling through the in box or when attempting to view new mail.
The normal version of Yahoo mail works great when using
    Internet Explorer 8.x.
I have uninstalled most of the add-on's but so far the browser is slow to completely unresponsive. In addition, when visiting select web sites the browser also runs slow.
Dennis C. Cooney, USN Retired, Vietnam Veteran, three tours

(Changing cache size does not resolve this for me.)
To me, the problem appears to be specific for Windows 7, 64-bit? I do not have the problem on my old Windows XP (tested again today).

  • FCP very slow on just one specific project

    Hi,
I'm using FCP 5.1.4 on a Pwermac G5 2 GHZ, 3 GB RAM. I have edited on this for over a year without any problems. Now, one particular project is giving me problems. I get the rainbow wheel every time I do something even as simple as placing a still photo in the timeline.
I am in unlimited RT, DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, aspect ratio 3:2, Lower (even) field dominance, NTSC - CCIR 601 Pixel Aspect Ratio, 29.97 editing time base.
I have captured in DVNTSC 48K and that is the same as my sequence preset.
Video Processing: Always Render in RGB
All of my media is on one external hard drive. I have saved my project file to my internal hard drive.
I was editing a different project yesterday from the same hard drive, using the same settings and had no problems. but this one project is the only one I have had difficulty with. It's ridiculous. I can't even drag a still photo into the timeline without getting the rainbow wheel.
Help? Please? I need to finish this project!
    Thanks!

    Hi:
I opened your post with that first idea: too big stills. And in the end of all your posts I found it !
First, forget about dpi in video: just think in pixels.
You must size your still just as big as you need to zoom in and take as reference size your project settings. I mean, for SD NTSC a 100% is 720x480. If you need to zoom to double size a part of the image, you don't need anythiung bigger that 1440x560. Do you get the idea?
Any extra pixels you give your image beyond what you JUST need, you're only giving extra work to FCP with no advantage in quality. Worst, FCP os very bad rescaling!
OK. If you need so big images in your project and don't to deal with the extra processor work while editing, just create a project and an individual sequence for each still you need to animate. Export ecah animation with your final project settings (self contained if you want) and use them in a new project. The exported "sequences" will behave as standard video with no so much work for your computer.
    Hope that helps !

  • VERY slow print with CS5 mail merge

Creating a newsletter in CS5 Indesign.  Using "mail merge".  Total database is 900 names.  Tried using in blocks of 100 at a time and still takes at least an hour to print.  Is there a way to reduce resolution or something to cut print time?  Printing both sides of 11x17 black/white on Minolta Postcript printer.

It's simply to do with the amount of data which is going to the printer/RIP. Assuming the newsletter was two pages, then over 900 records means that 1800 pages are going to the printer/RIP. It's the equivalent of printing a dictionary.
Assuming that the Minolta printer is a desktop printer being merged to via merge to Print, then the option I would take is to make the InDesign file as lightweight as possible e.g. make sure images placed are no larger in resolution than they need to be, etc. Its not something that could really be done through the print dialog box as there aren't enough options to choose from.
Otherwise, could merge to a PDF first and then choose the downsample options prior to the merging of the file.
    Hope this helps.

  • I recently updated to iOS8.1on my iPad 1and it ran very slow. Just a few minutes ago, it shut down compoeteoy and I cannot get ANY response at all. Just a black screen.  Any help pkease?

Can anyone tell me how to restart my iPad that just shut down, while I was reading a book on Overdrive? I still had plenty of battery life.  I tried to reboot holding down the off button, but no response at all.

Photos that are in the cloud stay there until they are removed by a device that has the right privileges. If your iPad is logged in with the same AppleID, then doesn't it show the photos from iCloud?
You will only be on iCloud Drive if you expressly chose to upgrade.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • CS4 very slow

I am getting lots of problems with CS4, some of which have been covered in separate topics on this forum. In the main, it seems to me that there is a real problem with CS4 processing relatively small amounts of data. The difficulties I am experiencing are:
    1. Text tool very slow. Just typing a few letters sees my CPU usage shoot to 50%. There is a lag of about a second between typing the letters and their appearance on the screen.
    2. Pen tool very slow with significant lag when using the mouse and CPU again shoots to 50%, even for a short line. If I use the tablet (Trust) it sometimes works, but suffers the same lag as the mouse when it does. Most of the time, though, I just get a faint straight line between the start and end point. This morning I got the same straight line symptom on the mouse!
    3. Screen redraw can be painfully slow and blocky, but this fault is really sporadic
    4. There is no apparent difference whether I have GPU active or not. However, I have just had a strange message. When GPU was disabled I restarted CS4 and got the message that there was a problem with the display driver, and PS was therefore disabling GPU enhancements! After that, the pen worked fine, and the mouse too, but then the mouse started losing curves.
I experience none of these problems when I run CS.
My video card driver is up to date. The trust tablet driver is the latest, but I really do not think this is the issue, as the drawing problem also affects the mouse.
System spec - XP with SP3, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, nVidia Geforce 7600GT, Program on Raptor 70GB, Scratch on separate 70GB Raptor

I updated the video driver just after I upgraded to CS4, and I have checked today that it is still the latest.
The really weird thing is that the problems are not constant. Most of the time they are there, the rest of the time it's OK. When there is a problem, it's not all of them either.
I have now noticed that my pen works just after I open PS. However, if I change to drawing with the mouse, or change to another tool, then I just get the faint straight lines as in 2 above. I have contacted the maker to see if they can fix the driver.
I noticed that when I ran slide show the temp on the video card went very high, so I have ramped up the fan in case the temp is causing the card to throttle on me. Would this be likely?
However, I still don't understand why I am getting the message that the GPU enhancements are being cut when GPU is not enabled anyway.

  • Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share

Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share
We have implemented the following configuration
Domain level Windows 2000. Two member servers with Windows Server 2008 R2, sharing the same DFS namespace with, at the moment, one folder target called Home.
Users complaining that the access to different MS Office files is very slow. Even creating a new MS Word document using right click context menu takes up to 4 minutes to open. Saving, for example, one singe Excel sheet takes also few minutes.
Tested with both, MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2010. Makes no difference. When using Office 2010 you can see the message like contacting:
\\DomainName\Root\Home\UserName. Other files like TXT, JPG or PDF are not affected.
What makes the thing really weird is the fact, that the behavior described above can absolutely change after client machine being rebooted, suddenly everything becomes very fast and this condition can revert back again just after the next
    reboot.
    Considerations until now:
    1. This has nothing to do with the file size. Even tiny files are affected.
    2. AD Sites are configured correctly and the client workstations see themselves in the correct sites.
    3. This is not an Office issue. If I map my folder target not as DFS, but directly as shared network drive
\\ServerName\Root\Home\UserName , everything functions as expected
What makes me suspicious: when using f.e. TCPView to monitor connections, I can see, that each time I make any operation on an office file, there will be a connection established to one of the domain controllers, sometimes to remote ones,
located in other countries. But on the other side, even if the connection is established to the nearest DC, operations are still very very slow!
Just forget to say. All clients are Windows 7
    Thanks to all who respond.

    Dear all,
sorry for the delayed reply. The problem has been solved now and since September 19th. everything is functioning as expected.
    What was done:
Deleted replication targets excepting the initial ones
    Carefully recreated folder targets
    Deleted and recreated  replication groups
Disabled SNP features on both namespace servers
    Created EnableTCPA registry entry
Checked that the following Updates are installed
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688074
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2647452
Concering Office File validation KB2553065 - This Update was already declined on our WSUS server
    Kind Regards
    Eduard
