VERY STRANGE Airplay Behavior (Ghosts???)

Hi all,
I have had an issue which for the life of me I cannot explain.
Every Sunday I have friends come over to watch NFL Game Pass.  I have an iPad 3 and I Airplay the Football to my TV (through an ATV 2G).  For the early games there is NEVER an issue.  Then ALWAYS at about the same time during the 2nd games (give or take 20 minutes) the Airplay/AppleTV completely go nuts.  The football cuts out and a strangely random song starts playing on the TV (via Apple TV).
Strange, becasue sometimes the song is not even in my iTunes collection.  I will switch back to the the Football (via iPad) and within a few moments the football cuts out again and the random music plays.
This was driving me crazy becasue I am tech saavy and for the life of me could not figure it out.
So I started taking things out of the scenario to see if I could isolate the problem, to no avail (including making sure that iTunes Streaming was off and EVEN dumping my entire iTunes library.
Here is where it gets really wierd
When I got to my witts end, Ipowered down EVERY computer in the house.
Therefore, the ONLY things powered on were the iPad, Airplay, ATV2, the home network and the Samsung TV.  NOTHING ELSE.
And yet the same problem occured - I'm clueless.
Apart from the why, I can't even figure out where the Apple TV is pulling the audio content from when it cuts from the Football.
Please help.

The only explanation I can think of is that the administrators of this account make changes at the server that require you to change that setting accordingly. You should probably ask them.

  • [SOLVED]Very strange laptop behavior: keymap changing on fly

    I have had arch up and running on my Lenovo T440s without issue for over 2 months now.  Today I ran into some very strange behavior.  After being on for about 45 minutes, with only a browser and thunderbird running, the keyboard started being selective in which keys woud work.  I could no longer mange the windows with my normal AwesomeWM key bindings.  The only thing I could do was restart by turning off and back on.  I checked journalctl and there had been a weird message around the time the error occured, something along the lines of "HKEY error 0x600, unknown thermal alarm or keyboard input".
    Now I can barely login, ocassionally I can get my credentials input before the machine stops reading in certain letters.  When I use xterm rather than the usual urxvt the letters are all some different unicode symbols, it's like the keymap has been changed to something bizarre on the fly, right after loading up.  The time at which this issue arises is not predicatable, sometimes I can get further before it happens.  For example, sometimes I can't even enter my username and other times I get a few minutes, just enough to try to enable sshd so I can effectively troubleshoot remotely.  I was able to run an update and install lm_sensors remotely.  The cpu temps are right at or below 40 deg C.
    Any ideas on how to debug this would be very appreciated.
    Dave

    Hello, thank you for the reply.
    Actually this is a laptop so the keyboard is internal.  However I have input a usb keyboard from my desktop to try to isolate the issue when it occurs.  I get the same behavior out of my desktop usb keyboard.
    I am seeing no messages in the journal when the event occurs (since that one mentioned above happened yesterday).  The problem has since arisen about 20 times and I am not getting any messages.  Perhaps there is a verbosity setting in the journalctl config, I haven't yet had time to look into that.
    Two other oddities /clues are:
    1. When I go into the BIOS, I cannot get consistent response from the keys.  At first the bios just beeps at me when I try to use the arrows of other keys, although usually eventually they start working.  At first I thought this may have to do with me pressing several keys to initiate the bios rapidly as the boot is so fast, but now I'm not sure that's it--based on the amount of time that the unresponsive beep alarm is occuring for (sometimes I stop waiting and restart).
    2. When I get the bad behavior, I am able to put the machine to sleep (suspend) temporarily by closing the lid for 5 secs and reopening it.  After doing this I get normal keyboard behavior for another few minutes before it goes wonky again.
    I need this machine for work in the evenings so any help troubleshooting would be very appreciated.  Will probably be calling lenovo soon, but given that I altered the OS from preinstalled windows they may not be very helpful.

  • Very strange interface behavior

    After installing SL on my early MBP I am seeing very strange behavior in some (but interestingly not all) dialogs.
    Some drop-down selectors have a slight discoloration in the red-pink end of the spectrum. When I select the item it goes back to normal. The other issue is that certain selectors are flat (meaning that where I would expect a raised button it is flat).
    Since I fear I'm not doing a particularly good job of explaining what I mean, I've uploaded screenshots to my MobileMe account. Is anyone else seeing this? Is this something that, perhaps, a clean install might resolve?

    Cheers
    Aj

    Of course, I reinstalled SDK, cleared caches, preferences and so on.
    Tech Guru, thank you for your replies, but it seems I posted my question in the wrong place. On the whole forum the only person payed attention to my issue is you Maybe you can advice me the right place?

    OSX 10.4.10

    i just received this laptop in the mail, and as i was adding come 'essential' programs, i started to notice an odd behavior:
    using safari, i was downloading applications from version tracker. for instance, Textwranger.
    for some reason, after the file downloads and unpacks, the temporary download file xxxx.dmg.download doesn't disappear until i place my mouse over it.
    then, the file that is unpacked does not show up on my desktop unless i specifically search for it using spotlight.
    i also have a file in the trash that wont delete when i empty it : UnRarX
    i literally have only been using this computer for an hour or so.

    Yes, the finder prefs do have that option. While you are in Finder app, right under "Finder" in the menubar, go to Preferences (command comma) and under the General tab, check Hard disk "show these items on the Desktop".. and under the Sidebar tab, check hard disk in "show these items in the Sidebar".
    If you are lacking normally displayed items or having problems with settings or system differences, do the "Reset PRAM" by restarting and holding the command, option, p and r keys until you hear the third chime. Do not release those keys until you have heard the THIRD chime ... it is important.

  • Very strange iTunes behavior, please help!

    Every once in a while, I will notice a song in my library that has a time listed that I know is shorter than the song's actual length (for example, a song I know to be 5 minutes+ will be listed in the library as 1:37). When I play the song, the time adjusts to the proper time, so that is not the problem. However, if I sync my iPod, iTunes will only sync the time listed (1:37 in the example) to the iPod! It seems to be 100% random in the songs it effects and time it changes it to. Please help me out!
    Edit: I also forgot to mention, it will make songs longer also, but that is not as much of a problem because it will go on the iPod, show the "longer" time and then just go to the next track once the actual music is over

    I only have a 'CD Info.cidb' file in the preferences.
    Couldn't hurt to drag them on the desktop too, I suppose.
    Just don't trash them yet.

  • Very strange FF3/Opera behavior

    Hi there,
    I'm running XFCE & Compiz Fusion and encountered a very strange behavior when visiting a certain website with Firefox3. The website is http://www.cyberpunk-terminal.de/. Whenever I visit that site my whole Firefox gets transparent. When I switch to a different tab or close the tab, it's back to normal. It seems to have something to do with Compiz, since I can set the transparency of FF to 0 via Compiz-shortcuts.
    Does anybody else have the same experience?
    Edit: Same thing happens with Opera.

  • Very Strange Internet Access Behavior After upgrade to systemd

    Currently I'm having very strange issues with my wireless connection. Currently, if I connect using netcfg to a wireless access point, I have the following behavior:
      1. chromium can connect to any website
      2. thunderbird can send/receive emails
      3. curl, firefox and opera can connect to some https sites but not http (yes: https://www.facebook.com, https://bbs.archlinux.org, no: https://archlinux.org, https://github.com)
      4. wget does not connect, neither does pacman -Syu
    after I upgraded to systemd, I was getting errors because of groups, so I removed extra groups. Here's what I have now:
    There is currently no rc.conf in /etc
    $ id ambantis
    uid=1000(ambantis) gid=100(users) groups=100(users)
    $ id root
    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),19(log),1000(wheel)
    If I try to remove the wheel group, then netcfg does not allow me to connect, neither can I connect manually with wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd
    Here's the output of $ systemctrl

    UPDATE:
    I've managed to make changes to the passwd file so that uuidd is in fact uuidd (instead of uuid). I've also gone through and restored the groups of postgres and tomcat. I'm still having the same behavior. After booting up, here are the new entries from /var/log/errors.log:

    Also, here's debug info from netcfg:

  • VERY strange behavior - HELP!

    I don't know if anyone can help, but I have had some VERY strange Powerbook this afternoon while doing some Word processing. I was doing a quick search on the internet, when web pages would not load and applications became EXTREMELY SLOW. It was almost as if I had lost my internet connection, but everything was fully connected and fine. Anything action that I took brought up the spinning pinwheel of death. After force quitting all of my apps. and trying to restart, I continued to get the spinning wheel. After leaving the PB for nearly five minutes, the wheel was still spinning and restart did not happen.
    I finally held down the power button until it shut down. After restart, I repaired permissions and received the following, which I thought was strange:
    Disk Utility started.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Determining correct file permissions.
    parent directory ./Users/Shared/SC Info does not exist
    We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./Library/Widgets. New permissions are 16877
    Permissions differ on ./private/var/log/secure.log, should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r-----
    Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4. New permissions are 33060
    I understand the "special permissions" is due to the latest security update, but the secure.log concerns me. Any ideas?
    Here is part of the system log as well. Any help would be much appreciated. Based on the sys.log towards the bottom, it almost looks as if there was some kind of attempted security breech on the system?
    Thanks,
    Joe B

  • Strange CacheLoader behavior in 3.7

    Hi,
    We had a strange issue today with a CacheLoader that had been working previously but now did not work after moving to 3.7 - but the behavior was very strange.
    <li>If we called get on the cache the load method was called, the entry loaded from the DB and returned to the client. The cache size was then incremented by 1.
    <li>If we call getAll on the cache the loadAll method was called on the loader, the required entries loaded and returned to the client but the cache size did not change - that is although the entries were loaded and returned to the client they were not put into the cache.
    After a bit of head scratching it turned out that the cache loader was removing the keys out of the Collection that gets passed to the loadAll method, which it obviously should not do.
    It is not actually documented anywhere that you should not mutate the Collection of keys. It would be better if it was in the Java Docs for the CacheLoader interface or better yet an Immutable Collection was passed to the loader.

    JKHi JK,
    It would be another interesting detail whether the removed keys were added to the miss cache :)

  • Strange Mail Behavior when cicking reply to

    I am having a very different but very strange behavior when in mail 5.2 I click on reply or forward in my menu bar a new mail window opens up and quickly moves off to the right of the screen and disappears laving my inbox. I cannot find where they are going and the only way I can respond is open the mail in a new window. This is weird I have been using mail forever and never seen this before?
    any suggestions???
    mac os 10.7.4
    Thanks for any suggestions

    So Mail doesn’t really crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). Rather, it freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
    What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
    Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
    The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
    Try disabling Search .Mac For Certificates in Keychain Access > Preferences if it’s enabled. Take a look at the following articles for an explanation of why this could be the problem:

  • Strange CS4 behavior

    Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me.  I am running CS4 on a windows xp sp3 with 2 gigs of ram. It has developed a strange problem.  I hope I can explain it so it is understandable.  On the main page it almost seems like there is a double page, like a ghosting effect.   It is especially noticable up on the main taskbar.  Each word such as File, Edit, etc looks almost like there is a strikeout through it.  Over at the top right hand corner if I put my mouse over the x to close or the minimizer button, you can see a second copy of the box superimposed below it.  I have to click on that superimposed one to exit or minimize the window.
    Because I have also developed printing problems, I thought the issue might be driver related.  I have updated my printer(Epson) and graphic (Nvidia) drivers.  When this didn't change anything, I uninstalled CS4 then reinstalled it.  What I thought was very strange was that after the re-installation was complete, I went to reinstall some of my third party plugins and they were already there.  When I clicked on my recently opened images under the file tab, they were there too.  Shouldn't non-adobe plugins and recently used files have disappeared with an uninstall/reinstall?
    My printer problem is weird, also.  I have been printing with photoshop for many years.  What suddenly started to happen is that when I want to print say a 12x18 print on 13x19 paper which I do a lot, all of a sudden my print is not centered anymore and the image has been enlarged to the point of clipping nearly a quarter of the print.  Even though I pick the 13x19 paper size, on the CS print page where the photo shows, it says the size is 19.044x12.985.(?)
    I'm about to tear my hair out.
    Does anyone have any suggestions for either of these problems?
    Thank you!

    Thanks, John.
    I had tried to reset the preferences before, but I didn't get the
    confirmation dialogue.  I will try to do that manually first.
    The ghosting occurred before I ever did any uninstall so I don't think an
    improper un/reinstall is the culprit but, if resetting the preferences
    doesn't  work, I will do the uninstall using the clean script.
    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Regarding the ghosting problem it sounds as if you didn't properly
    uninstall an earlier installation of CS4.
    Adobe always advise  running their Clean Script after removing the
    application from the Control  Panel.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    This  shouldn't be necessary with a properly written installer but it is.
    But first, try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
    (You  either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or,
    if using  the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a
    confirmation  dialog.)
    This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
    If this doesn't help uninstall again, first saving actions,  brushes,
    plug-ins, etc, to a separate location, and run the Clean Script  following the
    instructions on the page.
    Then do a fresh  re-install.
    Regarding the other problem, I would open a separate  thread or things will
    get very confused  here.

  • Very Erratic Trackpad Behavior - Heat?

    The trackpad on my one-year-old MBPro has started exhibiting extremely erratic and intermittent behavior:
    • Taps react as control-clicks
    • Cursor jumps and becomes impossible to control
    • Drags and scrolls behave unpredictably
    The trackpad becomes impossible to use. Eventually, as now, everything returns to normal. I'm very experienced in the proper use of the trackpad, and am familiar with the 'phantom fingers' phenomenon, so no need to advise against keeping extra fingers and hands away from the trackpad.
    This behavior has even occurred when standing well away from the computer: after fighting to control the cursor and restart the computer via the Apple menu, I left the room and returned to see a contextual menu of the Activity Monitor (set to auto-launch at restart) being self-activated.
    I'm starting to guess that this is related to heat issues. In support of this theory, the following:
    - This behavior was first seen a few months ago when I traveled to the south of France where it was quite warm, and the computer had been playing video for some time. The computer was indeed rather warm.
    - Now it's summertime and the ambient temperature is warmer (though here in the Netherlands, it's not exactly tropical). The last two occurrences of this behavior (yesterday and today) have been hot sunny days. After allowing the computer to cool, the trackpad behaves as normal.
    Others have reported strange trackpad behavior, but they seem to believe it is caused by defective or damaged hardware, or else user-error. It is often suggested they check their trackpad System Preferences. This post which supports my theory that this is indeed heat-related problem, also remarks that the problem is more likely when the battery is charging.
    Can anyone offer advice, explanation or supporting arguments?
    Thanks

    Try using your laptop without the battery installed (ie remove the battery and run the laptop from the mains supply only), and see if that cures the problem.
    If it does, then you have a warped battery casing, and will need to replace the battery.
    The battery sits directly over the trackpad circuitry, so that if the battery casing warps, it presses against the trackpad circuitry and causes it to act as though you have pressed it.
    If that doesn't cure the problem, then you probably need to replace the trackpad, itself.

  • Strange audio behavior in 10.5.2

    Hello,
    I am experiencing some odd audio behavior in OS 10.5.2.
    I am using iTunes connected through the Built-In Line Out to a pair of Altec Lansing speakers with subwoofer.
    Recently, I am getting fluctuating volumes with iTunes playback - the volume will get louder for a second and then go back. It doesn't happen regularly, but frequently enough to be annoying. Also, if I pause playback on iTunes, I will hear some noise that resembles rumbling, not really popping or hissing.
    It's very strange and I'm not sure what might be causing it.
    Any suggestions?

    ok, hmmm do you have any thing thats set to open when you login? if not what i'd like you to do for me is test it in a new user. create a temp acct on the computer and see if it does it there. if it DOESN'T then from finder select go>home>library>preferences>and take the com.apple.finder.plist and move it to the desktop then restart. if it DOES happen in the second user then please let me know and ill see if if i can find any thing else other than to reinstall snow leopard. if you do have login items i'd like you to remove them and reboot to see if it still happens.
    >system prefs>accts>login items

  • Very strange, Entry Processor block the entire coherence node

    I have a client node(storage= false) client1 which continues do get from cache1, the code is below:
    for(int i=0;i<10000000;i++){
                System.out.println("get:"+ cache1.get(i));
    and have another client node(storage= false) client2 which invoke a Entry Processor. this Entry Processor is work on cache2(not cache1)
    cache2.invoke(keys,new MyEntryProcessor());
    the MyEntryProcessor code is as below:
    public Object process(Entry entry) {
            for(int i=0;i< 1000000;i++){
                entry.getKey();
                entry.getValue();
                System.out.println(i);
            return null;
    when client2 begin run,  client1 will be blocked, until client2's Entry Processor is finished.
    who can tell me why. it's very strange, because client1 and client2 are work on two different cache. and it's only do get

    If these two caches belong to same cache service, then their requests are handled by the same service thread.   Coherence only use single service thread per service per node.    So if the get() for cache1 and the entry processor for cache2 go to the same node, you will see that behavior if cache1 and cache2 belong to same cache service.
    Either turn on thread pool (if you want to use same cache service( or use different cache service.

  • Very unreliable Airplay on MacBook Air 2013

    Hey there,
    I've been, for what seems like forever, experiencing very stuttery Airplay streaming. Strangely this only happens when streaming music via iTunes. Airplay Mirroring and Airplay-Video work fine.  There is no difference between streaming to an Apple TV (3rd gen) and an Airport Express (older gen, the plug-into-outlet-thingy). The reasons why I find this strange:
    - only iTunes seems to be affected.
    - cannot be a bandwith issue since AirPlay Mirroring work well
    - iPad, iPhone, Windows Laptops are not affected
    - the MBA 2013 has WiFi-issues, but those are related to bluetooth being in the same 2,4 Ghz band. Bluetooth is disabled.
    - no issues with Ethernet (Ethernet goes to the same AirPort Express which talks wirelessly to the router, so there is a direct connection. I have to do this because in clamshell Bluetooth has to be on)
    - old router with 2,4 Ghz only. (but other devices work!)
    - Airport Express is connected via Wifi, Apple TV is via Ethernet.
    - no WiFi-pollution. Suburbs.
    When streaming, sometimes the audio will stutter, sometimes stop for a few seconds, sometimes stopping completely (iTunes however says music is still playing) forcing me to either pause and resume in iTunes or, if that does not work, reconnect the AirPlay device.
    One additional thing: Using iStat Menus I can see how much traffic is currently being used. Mostly this issue only happens when upload is over 120KB/s. Well that's weird.
    Streaming a movie to the Apple TV uses up to 2 MB/s without problems.

    I realised I had the same problem after buying a lovely new Bowers and Wilkins A7. I was devastated.
    The symptoms were very similar to yours - frequent dropouts when streaming audio only. Good, strong wifi signals between devices that could 'stream' hi def video without problem and no problems when streaming from an iPad.
    However, i seem to have remedied the problem and haven't had one dropout since.
    I am no techie but I think airplay sends audio and video in different ways;
    Video is sent and cached - in any video sent to Apple TV, you can see the white bar grow along the bottom of the screen and, as long as this stays ahead of the point you are watching, you should never have any stuttering issues. I assume the file is downloaded and temporarily stored in the apple tv's memory. I know we use the term 'streaming' for this but it is more like a straightforward download.
    I am guessing that Audio is genuinely streamed (and not cached). I imagine that the protocol had to be written like that as not all airplay speakers are going to have internal memory to download the temporary file to.
    i was also assuming that, although I had a strong wifi connection between my devices, any wireless technology is vulnerable to interference from a variety of sources. This doesn't necessarily manifest itself as a weak signal but rather may cause momentary interruptions.
    My iTunes library was on a Mac mini on the same floor and near to the airplay speaker. The router is on the floor below. This set up meant that the Mac mini was wirelessly uploading data next to the speaker that was downloading from the router.  I believe the Mac mini was polluting the wifi causing interruptions in the signal.
    I moved the Mac mini to the floor below and connected it to the router with an Ethernet cable. I don't know if this improved the connection but I assume it  did as well as stopping the Mac mini pumping out wifi.
    You mention that your problems are worse when you are uploading - could it be the device that you are uploading from is interfering with the wifi signal?
    As I said above, i have not had one dropout since moving the Mac mini away from the airplay speaker.
    I hope you are able to do the same.
