Very strange and possibly complex problem: Macbook (A1342) Trackpad starts acting strangely after typing something on keyboard

A few things you need to understand first:
1) My macbook keyboard does not work.
2) Upon reboot, the trackpad works fine.
3) Then, as soon as I try typing something on the macbook keyboard, the trackpad starts to register every single click as a two-finger (right-click).
4) Then, immediately after I push a key down on the bluetooth keyboard, the trackpad starts doing the double-click thing again.
Here's another strange thing. This issue arose a few weeks ago, then suddenly disappeared without me doing anything. I mean, the trackpad AND macbook keyboard were both working flawlessly. After about a week, this reappeared again, and my macbook keyboard stopped working, with the exception of like, 1 key.I have no idea what this could possibly be. Advice appreciated, though I'm not sure anyone here would have any clue what this could be.

I had a similar problem.  The battery was VERY SLIGHTLY deformed and was exerting preassure on the bottom of the trackpad.  A new battery solved the problem.
Hope this helps.

  • MacBook Pro trackpad sticking, acting strange

My MacBook Pro Mid 2012's trackpad has started making clicking sounds when I click on it (it never used to be this audible) and feels as if somehow some kind of sticky liquid has gained access to it -- however, since I am the sole owner and user and have never, ever spilled any liquid on or near it, I can't figure out why this has become so.
I've had other Mac laptops where some kind of liquid HAD been spilled on it, and the feeling is similar, but not nearly as pronounced.
I don't know quite how to explain it, but if I very, very gently press down on it with my thumb, there is sort of a "pre-click" before it actually clicks. This is, now that I've tried it a couple of times, very noticeable.
Furthermore, sometimes when I'm scrolling through a Web page, not pressing down at all, it suddenly starts "selecting" blocks of text, and also occasionally goes to a link without my having clicked anywhere.
Other times, I try to scroll with the two-fingered method (lightly holding two fingers together and sweeping them downwards without any downwards pressure) it doesn't scroll at all.
It's definitely not normal behaviour -- I've had Mac laptops since the PowerBook 5300ce and I know my trackpads!
I know you're going to say I must have inadvertently deposited some liquid on it at some time and just not noticed, but I can swear this is not the case.
At any rate, are there any measures I can take by myself to try to clean underneath it without taking the whole thing apart or taking it in and paying $200 for someone to take a look at it?
Perhaps I should give it up and get a mouse for it . . .

"Taking it apart" is not an option for just cleaning the trackpad in these models. The trackpad and keyboard are the first components bonded into the chassis, and EVERYTHING else goes on top, hence would require a total disassembly. 10/10 degree of difficulty and high probability of gaining a fancy paperweight or doorstop afterwards.  If 2012, then it is almost certainly within the one-year base warranty period: let Apple deal with the problem.
That being said and in lieu of a visit to the Store, note that the trackpad pivots down along the front edge. Hence there is a tiny gap between it and the chassis to allow movement. Examine that airgap very carefully with a strong light and a magnifier. Two things to look for: any sticky fluid that may have trickled down or mechanical obstruction impeding free movement. Dirt, crumbs and such can work themselves in there and do the trick. If found, try to work it out with a can of compressed air; a "duster", if you will., maybe helped with a very fine brush. If that doesn't work, some success has been reported by using very high quality spray electronic parts cleaner, non-residual, sprayed with the Mac UPSIDE DOWN so none trickles down into the guts. But I still recommend a trip to the Store first.
And you may give serious consideration to buying AppleCare and extending the warranty coverage for an additional two years. Just remember it has to be bought and activated BEFORE the base warranty runs out.

  • My trackpad started acting strange - it is way too sensitive.  Even after I change the system prefs!

My trackpad will register a click when my hand is just above it, and it will stay clicked for a few seconds.  It is becoming a huge problem.  This has just started happening a few days ago.

THAT'S IT!  My spoon is ruined, but it's cool, cause now I realize that I have these powers.  I'll serve soup for dinner and have a little fun with the family!  HAHAHAHA!!
I made a wrist pad to rest my wrist on rather than relaxing it on the laptop (like I was use to doing.)   Now that my arm is raised off of the trackpad it doesn't do it as often.  Once in a while it does act as though I didn't let go of it and keeps objects or text selected.  I end up moving and tapping the thing until it releases the hold.  I'll focus my powers on this next time it happens.
    Thanks for the response!

My MacBook (10.5.8) is very slow and has significant problems loading will Snow Leopard (10.6.3) help or make my computer slower?
Also why does my Macbook make so much noise (The noise concerns me because it is so loud it sounds like the laptop will break down or something at any point)?

It depends on your Macbook model how to open the bottom case.
Anyway you need to open up the buttom case or keyboard panel to access the CPU fan like following.

If you think you can't do that by yourself, you'd better bring it to Apple Store Genius Bar or Authorized Servce Shop to tell them about the problem.

    1) Is it a video clip? Something you recognize?  To be clear, it's displaying at a point in your exported movie but doesn't appear at all in the sequence?
    2) What are your sequence settings?  Right-click your sequence and choose "Item Properties" to verify.

my macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset.
the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
    what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

my iPad mini adapter shorted...I bought a new one but since it charges very slowly and when charged to 100% it falls to 95% immediately after being unplugged...what might be the issue????

When it does that. Replug the charger and charge to 100%. Now does is stay charged when you unplug the charger.
You may need to recalibrate your battery.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

  • WiFi and other networking problems (MacBook Air)

Like many others on these forums, I’m having terrible problems with network connections on my MacBook Air 11-inch (Mid 2011, running Lion 10.7.3).
WiFi connections are very unreliable, and often impossible to establish.
On my home network I can ‘force’ the MBAir to connect by manually configuring TCP/IP, and DNS settings. I shouldn’t have to do this.
I do not have (and have never had) problems establishing WiFi connections on all the other Macs that are used on our home network (iMac, and MacBook running SnowLeopard, and an old PowerMac that runs Tiger; I also occasionally use my University MacBookPro (10.6.7) without any problems. So this issue is clearly not network related.
If I take the MBAir out on the road (which is why I bought it) then I invariably struggle and usually fail to establish a WiFi connection, even in my University, where the WiFi network functions with my MacBookPro.
My problems with the MBAir are not however confined to WiFi.
Networking with an Ethernet-USB link is equally unreliable. Occasionally the MBAir appears on network but then fails to connect to any servers. Even when it does appear to connect the network, I’m unable to connect/share the MBAir from any other of my Macs. Ethernet cable and network communications are all trouble-free with my University iMac and MacBookPro.
I’m really disappointed with my MacBook Air what’s going on Apple?!
I’ve tried deleting the usual system preference files (com.apple.airport.- , -.network, etc.) but not much has changed. Now at a loss at what to try next .... advice welcomed.

Whatever was causing my endless problems has been resolved. I was very close to returning my new MacBookAir, as nothing would work with respect to networking; WiFi or Ethernet-USB.
As a last resort I reinstalled Lion using the cmd-R - and yipee all networking problems have disappeared.
The MBAir now works just fine, I can chop and change WiFi connections when roaming without problems, and my ethernet-USB connection allows me to interact with my University network.
    My solution - reinstall Lion!

  • My MacBook won't start up.  After turn it on I get a grey screen with an apple in center and a circle below with lines around it and a blank bar below that.   How can I get it to get beyond this screen?

MacBook won't start. After I power up, I get a light grey screen with an apple in the middle, a circle with lines moving around it and a blank grey bar below that.  It won,t get beyond this.  Please offer suggestions.

I have the exact same problem and waited it out and got to my homescreen.  Whateve the problem is fried my bluetooth and my trackpad.  I tried starting it again and couldn't even get to homescreen, it stayed on the bluescreen with the wheel of death.  So, I took it to genius bar today. I was informed that my logic board is fried and it needs to be replaced.   $300 repair that I'm looking at...

  • Macbook Pro trackpad partly stops working after 1 touch

I have a very strange problem with the trackpad on my macbook pro (late 2008, fully updated, SSD, 4Gb).
When a mouse is used all is fine. WHen I touch the trackpad ONCE, it will stop working correctly, it will:
    - not detect a single click
    - will detect a doucle click
    - mouse moving (one or two fingers) no problem
IF the SMC is reset (unplug/remove battery/hold power button 5 sec/put battery back/ plug in power/start up)
all is ok, BUT after 1 time use the trackpad the same appears.....
    I have sofar tried:
    - SMC (described)
    - PRAM reset
    - disk utility (recover/fault detect)
    - restore from time machine
    - Yasu
nothing new is configured, the only thing i can imagine is that I moved the mac, while it was running, from its place and walked away from the place were the connected bluetooth mouse was located.....
    anyone any clue?

    Tx Ogelthorp,
But this did not work; one strange observation:
While not touching the trackpad from start after reset it works with a seperate mouse as it should.
Then one touch on the trackpad and it is ignoring the single click BUT SO IS THE MOUSE?
so no hardware fault I guess as it is exactly repeatable...
    any other ideas?
    gr/d

  • When I try and open Microsoft Word 2011 documents they start opening one after another at a rapid speed and I can't stop it. I reboot and same thing happens?

When I try and open Microsoft Word 2011 documents on my  IMAC they start opening one after another at a rapid speed and I can't stop it. I reboot and same thing happens. The documents open in rapid succession on their own and don't stop until I force close or after maybe 100 or more open I start getting the following message for each document attemting to open "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document" and then in paretheses the name of the document. After I click okay another trys to open. Any suggestions?

If you had multiple documents open and quit the app without closing all of the docs first, it will open them again when you launch the app. Open Word, and then close all the documents, you may be asked to save the document, if the document was already saved but you made changes to it before you quit the app, you may need to save the changes first, shorcut ( command and s keys). After you close all of the documents then quit the app and restart the computer. See if this works.

  • After I reinstalled lion, my trackpad started behaving strangely.

It jumps and fails to recognize movement, as well as sometimes picking up that I'm using two fingers when I'm only using one. It only started doing it after the reinstall. Sometimes, if I restart or put the computer to sleep, it will be fixed for a few minutes before acting up again. Because it only started after the reinstall, it definitely leads me to believe that it's a software issue.
I've already reset the PRAM and SMC, neither of which helped. Also, for the record, I have a mid-2010 MBP 15".

Others have your question answered, but note that I thought this change was annoying too.  However, I decided to try it out for a while, and I've found that the "natural" scrolling direction is actually quite intuitive-feeling.  It took me far less time than I thought it would to get used to it.  Give it a chance for a little while, and if you don't decide you like it, switch it back to the old way.
I did the same thing, decided to try it out for a while and now it is 'normal' did not take long to adjust at all.

  • Somehow, the Message App on my MacBook Air had my iPhone and messages appearing on the screen without me even putting anything into the computer. This is a school computer, so it would be very intrusive and possibly bad if I has this. Suggestions?

Any suggestions on how to permanently delete my phone number from the app? It's very hard to navigate, so good description please.

Mountain Lion sets your Apple ID for Messages app, so you can use iMessage and you can see your messages from other iPhones, iPads and iPods touch with your Apple ID.
To disable this, open the Messages app, go to Messages menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Accounts, choose iMessage in the sidebar and turn off this account
