Very strange FF3/Opera behavior

Hi there,
I'm running XFCE & Compiz Fusion and encountered a very strange behavior when visiting a certain website with Firefox3. The website is http://www.cyberpunk-terminal.de/. Whenever I visit that site my whole Firefox gets transparent. When I switch to a different tab or close the tab, it's back to normal. It seems to have something to do with Compiz, since I can set the transparency of FF to 0 via Compiz-shortcuts.
Does anybody else have the same experience?
Edit: Same thing happens with Opera.

  • Very Strange Internet Access Behavior After upgrade to systemd

    Currently I'm having very strange issues with my wireless connection. Currently, if I connect using netcfg to a wireless access point, I have the following behavior:
      1. chromium can connect to any website
      2. thunderbird can send/receive emails
      3. curl, firefox and opera can connect to some https sites but not http (yes: https://www.facebook.com, https://bbs.archlinux.org, no: https://archlinux.org, https://github.com)
      4. wget does not connect, neither does pacman -Syu
    after I upgraded to systemd, I was getting errors because of groups, so I removed extra groups. Here's what I have now:
    There is currently no rc.conf in /etc
    $ id ambantis
    uid=1000(ambantis) gid=100(users) groups=100(users)
    $ id root
    uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),19(log),1000(wheel)
    If I try to remove the wheel group, then netcfg does not allow me to connect, neither can I connect manually with wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd
    Here's the output of $ systemctrl

    UPDATE:
    I've managed to make changes to the passwd file so that uuidd is in fact uuidd (instead of uuid). I've also gone through and restored the groups of postgres and tomcat. I'm still having the same behavior. After booting up, here are the new entries from /var/log/errors.log:

  • Very strange macbook power behavior

    Hi!
    I have a white macbook CoreDuo 2G.
    A week ago the light from the power adapter's magsafe connection went off and the computer stopped getting power.
    A few hours before this, I had a very minor incident. Some tea got spilled on the table and reached the bottom of the computer. Only the plastic case was wet, I removed the battery and everything looked very dry inside. However, some minor drops reached the connectors, but I quickly wiped them.
    The laptop worked fine for a few hours, before I noticed the magsafe's light off.
    I've tested the power adapter and the battery and they worked fine on another computer. Then I changed the magsafe board connector (from inside the macbook) with a new one.
    Now the macbook has a weird power "behavior":
    - When I connect the magsafe with the battery inside the laptop, the computer gets no power.
    - If I remove the battery, the light turns green. If I put the battery back, it will charge normally.
    Basically the power doesn't get to the computer unless the battery is removed when the magsafe is connected.
    Like I said I tested the battery and, beside the fact that is at 60% capacity, it works fine on another computer.
    Do you have any idea what can cause this and how can I fix it?
    Thank you.

    Something new just happen. I have a big X in the battery icon.
    "No batteries available"

  • Very strange  Viber's behavior under iOS 5.1.1..

    Hello guys,
    I don't know if someone of you have already experienced this, but I have some strange problems with Viber.
    The core of the problem is that Viber keeps ringing for several seconds after the answer.  The interesting part is that this occurs only if I do answer from the Springboard and NEVER if I pick the call up from the lockscreen. Once I turn the option "view on lockscreen" off under notifications - everything become in order again, no ringing after picking up, but I loose the advantage of having lockscreen's notifications.
    What can be the reason of this problem?
    I am using iOS 5.1.1

  • Very strange Time Machine behavior

    Lo,
    Here is my situation. I have this brand new MacMini Server with two 500Gb internal drives. I have configured the second drive to be the Time Machine volume of the first drive. First drive contains Lion Server.
    The initial backup went smoothly.
    Oct  5 09:07:05 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Starting standard backup
    Oct  5 09:07:05 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Backing up to: /Volumes/Macintosh HD2/Backups.backupdb
    Oct  5 09:07:34 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Backup content size: 274.1 GB excluded items size: 74.3 GB for volume Server HD
    Oct  5 09:07:34 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: 239.73 GB required (including padding), 410.13 GB available
    Oct  5 09:07:34 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Waiting for index to be ready (101)
    Oct  5 10:07:23 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Copied 134.9 GB of 199.8 GB, 635075 of 755583 items
    Oct  5 10:29:50 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Copied 749494 files (197.9 GB) from volume Server HD.
    Oct  5 10:33:40 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: 1.30 GB required (including padding), 210.02 GB available
    Oct  5 10:40:15 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Copied 353532 files (73.0 MB) from volume Server HD.

    Oct  5 10:46:39 macmini com.apple.backupd[30151]: Backup completed successfully.
    That looks okay (200Gb in 1.5 hours) but above log already contains a sign of a problem. This gets more obvious with the subsequent incrementals:
    Oct  5 10:53:59 macmini com.apple.backupd[31344]: Starting standard backup
    Oct  5 10:53:59 macmini com.apple.backupd[31344]: Backing up to: /Volumes/Macintosh HD2/Backups.backupdb

    Oct  5 11:15:40 macmini com.apple.backupd[31344]: Copied 353545 files (76.1 MB) from volume Server HD.
    Oct  5 11:22:16 macmini com.apple.backupd[31344]: Starting post-backup thinning

    Oct  5 11:22:17 macmini com.apple.backupd[31344]: Backup completed successfully.
    Euh? So it thinks it still needs to copy >350000 files (being 1.27 Gb) and in the end it only copied 76.1 Mb.
    This now continues every hour:
    Oct  5 12:20:08 macmini com.apple.backupd[32497]: Starting standard backup
    Oct  5 12:20:08 macmini com.apple.backupd[32497]: Backing up to: /Volumes/Macintosh HD2/Backups.backupdb

    Oct  5 12:48:57 macmini com.apple.backupd[32497]: Backup completed successfully.
    Also note that it took 28 minutes to copy about 2 Mb.
    I used TimeTracker to see what actually got copied and in fact it did copy about 2 Mb. Not 1.20 GB.
    What could cause this behavior?
    Marc.

    Even if I exclude ~ (= /Users/<myname>) totally, it continues and even gets worse:

  • [SOLVED]Very strange laptop behavior: keymap changing on fly

    I have had arch up and running on my Lenovo T440s without issue for over 2 months now.  Today I ran into some very strange behavior.  After being on for about 45 minutes, with only a browser and thunderbird running, the keyboard started being selective in which keys woud work.  I could no longer mange the windows with my normal AwesomeWM key bindings.  The only thing I could do was restart by turning off and back on.  I checked journalctl and there had been a weird message around the time the error occured, something along the lines of "HKEY error 0x600, unknown thermal alarm or keyboard input".
    Now I can barely login, ocassionally I can get my credentials input before the machine stops reading in certain letters.  When I use xterm rather than the usual urxvt the letters are all some different unicode symbols, it's like the keymap has been changed to something bizarre on the fly, right after loading up.  The time at which this issue arises is not predicatable, sometimes I can get further before it happens.  For example, sometimes I can't even enter my username and other times I get a few minutes, just enough to try to enable sshd so I can effectively troubleshoot remotely.  I was able to run an update and install lm_sensors remotely.  The cpu temps are right at or below 40 deg C.
    Any ideas on how to debug this would be very appreciated.
    Dave

    Hello, thank you for the reply.
    Actually this is a laptop so the keyboard is internal.  However I have input a usb keyboard from my desktop to try to isolate the issue when it occurs.  I get the same behavior out of my desktop usb keyboard.
    I am seeing no messages in the journal when the event occurs (since that one mentioned above happened yesterday).  The problem has since arisen about 20 times and I am not getting any messages.  Perhaps there is a verbosity setting in the journalctl config, I haven't yet had time to look into that.
    Two other oddities /clues are:
    1. When I go into the BIOS, I cannot get consistent response from the keys.  At first the bios just beeps at me when I try to use the arrows of other keys, although usually eventually they start working.  At first I thought this may have to do with me pressing several keys to initiate the bios rapidly as the boot is so fast, but now I'm not sure that's it--based on the amount of time that the unresponsive beep alarm is occuring for (sometimes I stop waiting and restart).
    2. When I get the bad behavior, I am able to put the machine to sleep (suspend) temporarily by closing the lid for 5 secs and reopening it.  After doing this I get normal keyboard behavior for another few minutes before it goes wonky again.
    I need this machine for work in the evenings so any help troubleshooting would be very appreciated.  Will probably be calling lenovo soon, but given that I altered the OS from preinstalled windows they may not be very helpful.

  • Very strange interface behavior

    After installing SL on my early MBP I am seeing very strange behavior in some (but interestingly not all) dialogs.
    Some drop-down selectors have a slight discoloration in the red-pink end of the spectrum. When I select the item it goes back to normal. The other issue is that certain selectors are flat (meaning that where I would expect a raised button it is flat).
    Since I fear I'm not doing a particularly good job of explaining what I mean, I've uploaded screenshots to my MobileMe account. Is anyone else seeing this? Is this something that, perhaps, a clean install might resolve?
    http://gallery.me.com/dreadgeek#100251
    Cheers
    Aj

    Of course, I reinstalled SDK, cleared caches, preferences and so on.
    Tech Guru, thank you for your replies, but it seems I posted my question in the wrong place. On the whole forum the only person payed attention to my issue is you Maybe you can advice me the right place?

  • VERY strange behavior - HELP!

    I don't know if anyone can help, but I have had some VERY strange Powerbook this afternoon while doing some Word processing. I was doing a quick search on the internet, when web pages would not load and applications became EXTREMELY SLOW. It was almost as if I had lost my internet connection, but everything was fully connected and fine. Anything action that I took brought up the spinning pinwheel of death. After force quitting all of my apps. and trying to restart, I continued to get the spinning wheel. After leaving the PB for nearly five minutes, the wheel was still spinning and restart did not happen.
    I finally held down the power button until it shut down. After restart, I repaired permissions and received the following, which I thought was strange:
    Disk Utility started.
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Determining correct file permissions.
    parent directory ./Users/Shared/SC Info does not exist
    We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./Library/Widgets. New permissions are 16877
    Permissions differ on ./private/var/log/secure.log, should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r-----
    Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/secure.log
    We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./usr/lib/php/build/acinclude.m4. New permissions are 33060
    I understand the "special permissions" is due to the latest security update, but the secure.log concerns me. Any ideas?
    Here is part of the system log as well. Any help would be much appreciated. Based on the sys.log towards the bottom, it almost looks as if there was some kind of attempted security breech on the system?
    Thanks,
    Joe B

  • MacBook Pro - Battery behaving very strangely

    I have noticed there are already many threads on this, couldn't decide which one to post in so am starting a new one.
    I have a MBP 2.33 C2D 17" from late 2006. Last year I experienced the 'expanding battery' problem, my battery totally warped out of shape and was not working properly. After a fair bit of trouble with Apple France (who basically said, too bad, buy a new one), I eventually was able to go above their heads and get Apple to send me a free replacement. This seemed fair seeing as I had bought my MBP within the timeframe of an official battery recall published on the Apple site. The new battery worked absolutely fine, and is now still less than a year old.
    Recently though, it has started to behave very strangely. I hadn't made any connection that it could be to do with having upgraded to Snow Leopard, but in retrospect, after reading many of the threads here, it does seem likely that this is the case.. I recently did a big upgrade from Tiger to SL on this very machine, and it has been since then that I've had very erratic battery behaviour.
    My symptoms are similar to many I've read here: The remaining battery time (when not connected to AC) will jump from say 3 hours down to 15 mins very suddenly. Then sometimes it will jump back up again. Sometimes my battery health condition will say 'replace now', other times 'replace soon' or other times 'normal'. Also, sometimes the machine will just go to sleep with no warning, even when it had estimated more than an hour of battery time left.. upon reconnection to AC, suddenly it says 0%.
    I have always been careful to power cycle the battery properly, to let it run down regularly. Also since noticing this problem, the first thing I tried to do was recalibrate.. But I've tried twice now with no success. I let the machine run right down till it went to sleep, then left it on overnight, waiting for the power LED to stop flashing on the front of the machine.. But it wouldn't stop flashing even after being left off overnight. I have yet to try an SMC reset, will do that next.
    I realize my battery is not brand new, nor is my computer. However, this was a replacement battery I received less than a year ago. I'll put the battery stats below, but I'm not sure I believe them because I've been checking what is says a lot recently and sometimes it even shows a full charge capacity of a negative number! Something strange is going on here. I obviously don't expect full performance from a battery nearly a year old, but what it's doing here seems to be more than just a case of a battery getting old, especially having seen that many other users are having a similar set of symptoms after going to Snow Leopard.

    Cheers.

    I just got off a call with Apple support. The tech agreed that my symptoms were not normal, even for a battery with a cycle count over 300 like mine.. especially with the fact that the system profiler is showing bizarre info that makes no sense such as a full charge of a negative number. He said that basically the only thing I can try is to do an archive and reinstall of Snow Leopard, since it seems that the operating system is possibly corrupted. I don't think it's anything to do with the physics of the battery, it is more likely that the OS is not interacting properly with the battery, thus giving false and conflicting readings and information.. He seemed quite certain that it can't be a problem with Snow Leopard itself, seeing as all of the laptops in the Apple Support office were on SL and did not have this problem. So in his opinion, a corrupted OS was the most likely explanation. In any case, he said that batteries are only covered by a 90 day guarantee, so if it turns out that after a reinstall, my problem doesn't go away, then I'll have no choice but to buy a new battery because they won't cover it... This doesn't seem very fair to me because if it turns out that the OS has nothing to do with it, then it must be a faulty battery, because this kind of behaviour is certainly not what I'd call acceptable for a battery of less than a year old.
    Anyway, I'll perhaps try the archive and install process on the weekend and see what happens.

  • VERY strange lag on a Dell Optiplex 760

    I thought it would be a good idea to keep a 16GB flash drive on my keychain that booted Arch so I could work on HW for college in a consistent OS!  Everything is working great so far, but I ran into a very strange problem with a Dell Optiplex 760.  During the normal Arch init process, everything loads great, except for when it gets to the udev stage where everything hangs.  But here's the strange part of this scenario: the problems go away when I start typing random keys or move the mouse!  If I don't do this, the system hangs completely from what I can tell.  This happens at the console and with X.
    The service tag for this machine is FDCQQJ1, and the dell.com driver area brings up this list of hardware and (windows) drivers for it.
    Here's the #lspci -vv of the system:

  • Very strange problem. Missing characters in QT applications

    Hello all.
    I'm trying to deal with a very strange issue since some time, that is driving me crazy, because I have no clue where the problem may lay:
    In my Archlinux system, some, and only some QT applications (for example Skype, or Qtconfig) don't display properly certain characters in the unicode set (for example "ń" or "ł") when I use certain fonts (for example Terminus, Clean or Verdana), and those applications substitute those characters with the corresponding ones from the Bitstream Vera Sans font type.
    So, when I write, say, the Polish word "Toruń", the four first letters (T, o, r and u) are rendereed in the desired font type (let's say Terminus). However, the last letter (ń) is rendered in Bitstream Vera Sans, thus making the writing appear really ugly and uneven.
    However, this doesn't happen in Opera (the browser), which is a QT application, but where I get the whole unicode character set displayed properly in the desired font type (Terminus in this example).
    Also, this doesn't happen in the rest of non-QT applications I have in my system: all of them render perfectly the whole unicode set of characters in the desired font type, no matter which.
    But! it's not a problem of those QT applications, because I have another partition with Ubuntu installed, and when I boot that partition I don't have this problem: all applications, including Skype and Qtconfig, display correctly all characters in the whole unicode set, no matter which font type I'm using.
    This is totally bewildering me.
    Any clue?
    Thank you.

    The problem is not only in qt applications. I run openbox and this is the output I get when using the command-line script pdfmerge to merge pdf files:
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=48, glyph=0030 in the font VerdanaBold . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=49, glyph=0031 in the font VerdanaBold . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=31, glyph=001f in the font VerdanaItalic . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.

    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=34, glyph=0022 in the font VerdanaItalic . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=54, glyph=0036 in the font VerdanaBold . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=44, glyph=002c in the font VerdanaBold . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=50, glyph=0032 in the font VerdanaBold . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    GPL Ghostscript 8.71: Missing glyph CID=77, glyph=004d in the font Verdana . The output PDF may fail with some viewers.
    There are visible errors in the pdf output. For example, bold "C" is replaced by a square box, bold "b" is replaced by a space.
    It looks like there's bug in the Verdana font or perhaps in Ghostscript 8.71

  • Strange Navigation Bar Behavior

    Hi, I'm currently designing a web page for non-profit
    government organization.
    Unfortunately, I'm running into some strange behavioral
    problems with the navigation bar.
    The tabs in my navigation bar run from left to right. As the
    links are visited through the navigation bar, the links to the left
    of which ever link is active stop working. I can't for the life of
    me figure out why!
    The pages are arranged in such a way that each page involves
    three html files. One body file, one navigation bar file with it's
    respective tab hilighted, and a little file that simply loads the
    two, one on top of the other. The tabs in the navigation bar are
    linked to the file that then loads the body and navigation(of
    course). Clicking on a tab to the right of the active tab loads
    everything perfectly. However, if the active tab is the right-most
    tab, the tabs to the left no longer work properly. They seem to
    reload the navigation bar, but the body gets left behind and the
    URL still appears to be that of the right-most tab.
    Here is an example of my site in progress:
    Site in
    Progress
    By going through the four tabs at the top, you can quickly
    see things are going wrong.
    The drop-down menu can be used to access the same pages that
    the navigation bar refuses to load.
    If you could please take a look at the site and reply with
    any comments or suggestions as to what might be going wrong or what
    I could do to fix it, I would be very grateful.
    Note that I previously read something about strange
    navigation bar behavior being caused by image names beginning with
    numbers. This isn't what's happening here as my image names are all
    "image 1" etc.
    Also note that I'm using dreamweaver8
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    Well thanks for the suggestion, but that's not actually the
    problem I'm having.
    The newsletter link along with all that other stuff on the
    left hand side is just stuff I havn't gotten to yet.
    The problem I'm having is with the navigation tabs at the TOP
    of the page(policies, forms, info and M.R.)! I know the links for
    those tabs are correct, because I can see from hovering over the
    tabs that they're pointing in the right direction, and if it's the
    policies page(leftmost tab at the top) I'm on, all the tabs to the
    right work perfectly. The problem is that when I'm on any other
    page (such as the M.R. page which is the rightmost tab), all the
    tabs to the left of it mysteriously stop working!
    As I said, just quickly click back and forth through the four
    tabs at the top of the page and you'll see what the problem is. In
    fact, completely ignore everything that isn't those four tabs at
    the top of the page, because everything else is unfinished.
    Please help! Thanks!

  • Very strange, Entry Processor block the entire coherence node

    I have a client node(storage= false) client1 which continues do get from cache1, the code is below:
    for(int i=0;i<10000000;i++){
                System.out.println("get:"+ cache1.get(i));
    and have another client node(storage= false) client2 which invoke a Entry Processor. this Entry Processor is work on cache2(not cache1)
    cache2.invoke(keys,new MyEntryProcessor());
    the MyEntryProcessor code is as below:
    public Object process(Entry entry) {
            for(int i=0;i< 1000000;i++){
                entry.getKey();
                entry.getValue();
                System.out.println(i);
            return null;
    when client2 begin run,  client1 will be blocked, until client2's Entry Processor is finished.
    who can tell me why. it's very strange, because client1 and client2 are work on two different cache. and it's only do get

    If these two caches belong to same cache service, then their requests are handled by the same service thread.   Coherence only use single service thread per service per node.    So if the get() for cache1 and the entry processor for cache2 go to the same node, you will see that behavior if cache1 and cache2 belong to same cache service.
    Either turn on thread pool (if you want to use same cache service( or use different cache service.

    1) What is the complete error stack? The error should come with a line number, what is on that line?
    2) I'm assuming that you don't have identical procedures in the same database, right? Does that imply that you have a procedure that works on one database and not on another?
    3) Is the ORALOAD directory created on both systems? Do both procedure owners have access to that directory object? Does the Oracle user on the operating system have access to the specified directory on both systems? Does v_report exist on both file systems?

  • Very strange crash when displaying pdf tumbnails in iBooks 1.5

    Hi,
    Recently, I have experienced a very strange behavior in iBooks. The app opened normally and then, some seconds later, dispaly getts blak and the app closes abruptly.
    I have traced back this behavior: It occurs just when the cover tumbnail of some pdf books is displayed in any iBooks' library view (both in bookshelf view and in Title view)
    I removed the troubesome pdf, but found that some others ( wich worked fine fron a lot of time ago) produce just the same behavior.
    When (using the painfully method of trial, and l, and trial again! And again,... )  i finally deleted all the crash - related pdf's, iBooks worked fine again.
    The most intriging features related this behavior are: 1- It is related only with tumbnails. All the pdf are normally vieved using some other ipad psdf viever (such as Kdan Pdf Reader or Adobe Reader for ipad) 2- If yoy remove the cover as pdf first page ( even if you move such cover and put it as the second page, using software like pdf sam) the pdf works fine in iBooks.
    I suppose this is a (annoying) bug, but,is there any suggestion? Is there any way to disable The tumbnail feature in iBooks?
    Best regards

    Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:
    <blockquote>This seems to happen if Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF documents (pdfjs.disabled set to true and Preferences > Applications > PDF to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)").<br><br>Opening two tabs displaying PDFs and closing one crashes the other one.<br><br>Was able to reproduce with Firefox 36.0.1 and Adobe Reader plugin "Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32". When I tried to reproduce it later again in the same profile (or on Nightly and Beta), the tab didn't crash.</blockquote>

    Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed.
