Very strange Sound problem after upgrade.

For the past several months I've been using both onbaord and a second soundcard on my MSI K8N Neo 4 SLI and have had no problems. Yesterday I upgraded from an AMD Atlhon 64 3000+ venice to 3200+ venice and went from a IDE hdd to a SATA 3g/b hdd. Now I can't get sound to work on either soundcard.. I have formatted several times and tried supplied drivers and ones from Creative and MSI. I just can't get the sound to work anymore.. Also I'm powering my SATA drive through Legacy 4pin Molex the same as my previous IDE drive. i can't figure out WHY this is happening, I have the same PSU as before and that should not effect a PCI sound blaster either..

Try the nvidia drivers
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
Platform Nforce Drivers / Nforce Audio Driver..
that supports your board

  • Sound problem after upgrading to 10.6.3

I'm not 100% sure, if this is related to 10.6.3 but it occured after upgrading today (as far as I remember).
I often use the headphone with my MacBook - and sometimes I use the normal speakers... it happened earlier, that my computer "forgot" that it has built-in speakers, but plugging in the headphone jack and removing it helped.
But today, after updating to 10.6.3. my MacBook refused to play sounds of movies etc. permanently. Changing the volume displays a "not available" sign, System Prefs don't now anything about built-in speakers.
Restarting the Mac plays the normal boot sound on these very speakers, but even repairing permissions or resetting the parameter ram didn't solve the issue.
I even recognized a red LED light shining out of the headphone socket for a few minutes...
Anyone expereincing the same problem? Or any idea what else I could try?
    Cheers
    Dirk

    Hurray!! Solved!
The QTip was the solution. I couldn't see any dirt inside, and compressed air didn't help either. Also the first round or QTipping wasn't working - but then, gently turning and even more gently pressing turned out to be it.
A little grey color on the white cotton showed, that something definately was not right here. And now it works.
    Thanks guys.
P.S. Even though I'm lucky to have one of three german Apple Stores nearby, I'm happy to not needing a new logic board..

  • Sound problem after upgrading to Yosemite.

After upgrading to Yosemite, Sound driver suddenly stopped working as you see in the image.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do notappear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Sound problems after upgrade to OS4

    Good morning,
Anyone else who has sound problems while phoning after the upgrade to OS4? I have a 3Gs. Sound while phoning has been reduced to absolute minimum.

Same here as well - I have an iPhone 3GS and noticed this morning, when connected to my in-car bluetooth phone system, if I am running a iOS4 application like TomTom which is multi-tasking in the background, the sound quality is crackly, however if I kill the TomTom apps from the task manager, after a few seconds, sound quality is fine.
Starting up TomTom again, immediately reduces the sound qulaity back to crackling.
Not sure if the iOS4 or TomTom to blame.
If I used a the Speaker option, sound is fine. It appears that only bluetooth is affected.

  • Sound problems after upgrading to 7.1 and Pro

I have recently upgraded to Quicktime Pro and installed the 7.1 update, to create Podcasts at work. The only problem is now that non of my quicktimes will play sound. I have checked all volume control sections and mutes etc, its definitely a problem with the software. Also once a movie plays through, or if I try and use the play controls, other than initially pressing play, the player crashes and have to go to task manager to close it properly. The same occurs when you try and close the program.
I was going to uninstall and try again, but I was worried this might cause problems with the Quicktime Pro info.
Anyone else had these problems or have any advice.
    pc amd 2.8   Windows 2000

I'm also having sound problems with Quicktime v7.1 Pro. If I play a .swf file in Quicktime, the video and audio play great. If I play an .avi file, the video plays but there is no sound. If I play a .mov created by Camtasia Studio using either the default compression or the H.264 compression format, the video plays but there is no sound. The graphic display indicates that the audio is present in all cases.
Is there an issue with this new version of Quicktime Pro v7.1?

  • Strange aterm problems after upgrade - transparency related

Just did an upgrade after 3 months - I use wmii mostly with "aterm" as my terminal application. Since my upgrade this morning I have had strange problems with aterm, including:
    - when terminal requests input from user (eg after "su") password collection fails and part of password appears on screen
    - when using mcedit the cursor disappears
In my .Xdefaults file I have:
    ! aterm settings
    aterm*font:*-*-fixed-medium-r-normal--*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
    aterm*boldFont:*-*-fixed-bold-r-normal--*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1
    aterm*shading: 60
    aterm*transparent: on
If I comment out the last two lines related to transparency the problem disappears, but obviously so does my transparency.  Aterm was not upgraded so I suspect some Xorg issue now with aterm.
    Any ideas appreciated.

I have the same su - password issue using xfce's 'terminal',  so it is not aterm specific. It appeared  a few weeks ago, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Very annoying. Also passwords get written to .bash_history this way.

  • [SOLVED] Sound problems after upgrading

Forgive me in advance for any vagueness on my part. I confess that I'm not entirely clear on how the sound on my system is set up - I've generally just been taking the path of least resistance, and as long as it works I don't worry about it too much.
I did an upgrade a couple days ago that pulled in a ton of new packages, new kernel, etc. Afterwards my sound is (partly) gone. It seems like maybe PulseAudio is working but Alsa isn't? Clementine, native HTML5 videos in Firefox, and speaker-test all have sound. Mplayer, flashplugin, and aplay do not have sound. I'm plugged into a Creative X-fi. There's also a card on the motherboard, but I don't use that one.
I checked alsamixer and unmuted anything that I thought might be to blame, still no luck.

Ok, I finally figured it out. Will document here in hopes that it helps others. Please excuse any vagueness or minor inaccuracies, this stuff is not my area of specialization.
As I expected, the key was gaining a better understanding of what roles each package plays. ALSA sits close to the hardware and drivers. It's the thing responsible for actually pumping sound into my sound card and out the speakers. PulseAudio sits on top of ALSA, and handles mixing different audio streams coming in from different sources, plus does a bunch of other fancy stuff if you ask it to. So Pulse mixes stuff into one sensible audio stream and pumps that into ALSA, which handles the hardware. Now one final layer: some legacy applications will only work with an ALSA device, but Pulse doesn't want to share ALSA with anyone - it wants everything to go through Pulse first. So Pulse provides an emulated ALSA device for these applications that looks like a sound card, but actually routes through Pulse. That's what the stuff in asound.conf is doing; setting the system's default audio device to be the emulated Pulse device.
Now to my specific problem. Pulse, for whatever reason, was using the wrong "sink" for audio output. It has several different sinks listed for my soundcard, but only one works. So with asound.conf intact, sound was being routed into Pulse and then out the wrong sink, thus no sound for me. When I added the line to my ~/.asoundrc, I was (I think) actually overwriting the default device so that it was no longer the emulated Pulse device. So even though the Pulse server was running, I was bypassing it and sending all my system sound straight to ALSA. This also explains some weird behavior I was seeing in my web browsers, where I got audio fine from Flash, but not from native HTML5 video.
To fix it, I got rid of my ~/.asoundrc, and left /etc/asound.conf as is. Then I had Pulse list all the available sinks for my sound card:
    pactl list sinks
I tested each sink to find one that worked:
    paplay /tmp/volumeTest.wav -d alsa_output.pci-0000_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo
Once I knew which one was the correct one, I set it as the default sink:
    pactl set-default-sink alsa_output.pci-0000_05_00.0.analog-stereo
And then tested to make sure that Pulse was working, and that ALSA was routing things into Pulse:
    paplay /tmp/volumeTest.wav
    aplay -D default /tmp/volumeTest.wav

  • Sound problems after upgrading

    Hi,
After installing the pay upgrade on my iPodTouch last week I can't control the volume. It plays everything on max. There's no way I can use my touch now without losing my hearing. What gives?
    thanks
    alf

    Yeah, a 32 gig.
It's clearly stuck, but no matter what I try, I can't get it to lower. I thought maybe changing the volume limit in the music settings would fix it, but alas, no.
I just don't want to have to reset it, and lose everything on there, although I suppose in the end that's what I might have to do.
    Anyway, thanks for your reply.

  • Sound problems after iOS 4.2 upgrade

Experiencing very poor sound quality after iOS 4.2 upgrade. Bad eq, left channel dropping out, sounds like heavy reverb. Exists with iPod and pandora apps. Tried adjusting eq in settings. Any one else having problems?

Yep I just upgraded to new OS 4.2 on iPhone 4 and I get this static buzz sound when talking to people it's really annoying and sound quality is terrible. What happened? I went back to the shop and they said it's the upgrade and that there is an issue with it. They also said there is no point leaving the phone with them as they can't fix it that it's upto apple to release a patch for the problem. Can we get a fix for this soon before I damage my ears?

  • Problems after upgrade: Leopard to Leopard no longer works

My sister upgraded to Leopard on her iMac(c2d) to Leopard yesterday. Earlier in the day we were able to do video chats with a number of people(her machine Tiger to Fathers machine Leopard). However, since upgrading, we've experienced weird behavior for video chats. Basically in her window she won't see her image(the small one), and I don't see her at all. We've tested this out with a number of other iChat accounts and get the same results. Btw, all machines that are chatting with her are using Leopard. Also, all other forms/capabilities work: screen sharing, sharing of pictures, audio chats.
Anyone out there have similar problems after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard? I have done the usual adjustments of bandwidth and QT settings, as well as restarts. What else should I try?
    tia,
    n

I finally resolved this problem: I think the issues/steps would be helpful for anyone who experiences iSight off or not working problems after upgrading to Leopard(then to 10.5.1) on a intel 20" iMac :
    Problem:
-If you have an internal iSight on an iMac and your camera works fine in Tiger
    -If you upgrade to Leopard
-If Chat camera doesn't show your image (iSight off) even though the green light is on
-You can see the other persons video on iChat
-Your friends can here you and you can share screens, files, etc.....everything but have them see you
These are the initial steps I took:
    - Deleted the pLists(or stored preferences for the Application) described at the top of this thread
    - Was told it might be slow internet connection so did various things: disconnected other computers, changed wireless to "G" only
    - Specifically Opened of ports spec'd for Leopard on router (even though I hadn't needed to do this under Tiger)
    - Tried chats with various people on various fast/slow networks
    - Restarted all aspects of the network: router, wireless access point, computer
    - Checked to see if the iSight was shown in 'System Profiler'. It was found in 'About This Mac->More Info->System Profiler->USB'
    - Clicked Video icon in iChat Buddies window(to the right of your name) and coudn't see my image
    - Opened 'PhotoBooth' and coudn't see my image(black screen)
    - Opened iMovie and couldn't capture video via the iSight(black screen)
    - Opened iChat->Preferences->Video and couldn't see my image
    - Validated that 'Camera is Enabled' in iChat->Video->Camera is Enabled
If you are experiencing a similar problem with you built-in iSight, I would probably focus on the last 5 things that I did. What they showed me was that the iSight was just not capturing video even though it was capturing sound in 3 different applications.
The solution to iSight Off or iSight Not Responding or No Video is......reset your computer! I had thought my sister performed this but it turns out she hadn't. Here's the link to this procedure:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
Very easy to do though: Power off computer and unplug all cables, including power cable for at least 15 seconds. Plug everything back in and power up the computer and retry clicking on the 'Video' icon next to your login name. If you see yourself then...problem is solved.
While I eventually found posts in several other forums, it took me the better part of a week. To try this simple step. I wish I had done so straight away. Oy. I guess I learned a lot about ports, speed etc.
    I hope this helps.

  • Very Strange Internet Problems

I own a MacBook Pro 15.4 Inch that I purchased about a year and a half ago. I recently upgraded to Leopard and have all the latest updates. I am from the US, and when I am home my internet works fine. However, I am on travel to Seoul, South Korea right now and am having a very strange internet problem.
As far as I can tell, the URLs that I type in to my browser are, sparodially, not translated correctly into the webpages that they are supposed to represent. This problem is probably effective 75% of the time, and the rest of the time my internet works roughly correctly. For instance, when I enter http://www.google.com, instead of being taken to the Google homepage, I am taking to the homepage of Jammin Beats DJ Service, an obscure website about a company in northern Pennsylvania. The actual URL of this website is http://www.jamminbeats.com, but when my internet is malfunctioning, 'jamminbeats' is for all intensive purposes replaced by 'google' (that is, it applies not only to the main page, but to sub pages, so "http://www.google.com/weddings" takes you to "http://www.jamminbeats.com/weddings" and etc). For most other webpages, one of two things happens. Either I am taken to the correct page but it is displayed without any images or frames (just the html text and links), or I am taken to a blank page with the header "Under Construction", which I assume is the default for a page that doesn't exist. This is why it seems as though the URLs are simply being interpretted erroneously.
This problem occurs when connecting both to the wireless and the wired internet at my hotel, and it occurs on both Safari and Firefox, so it is not a connection-specific or browser-specific problem. It may be a problem with the hotel's internet, and as of yet I have not had a chance to test the computer at another location. However, a colleague using an IBM computer has had no problems, and I am currently on a Samsung machine in the business center of the hotel and it is working correctly as well. I have searched extensively online for a similar problem but have come up empty handed, and more than anything, I am confused about what might be causing this problem. The strangest thing is that a fraction of the time, the internet functions normally, but it is usually roughly 15 minutes out of every hour, and eventually I am inevitably taken back to Jammin Beats.
I am a computer science graduate but I still have no idea what would cause this problem. At first I thought it might be a hacker, but if it is, he or she has been at it consistently for 3 days now, and only seems to be targeting my computer. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated, as I have been forced to resort to the hotel's business center for checking email, doing work, etc. Thanks in advance.

I did consider that, as I was in Beijing last week and there are a number of censored sites. However, in Korea I have had problems with very basic sites like facebook, wall street journal, google, yahoo, Korean google, my hotel's webpage, etc. Further, I have successfully gotten all of these sites to load seemingly at random, and can access them without problems on other computers. The only disconnect seems to be between my MBP and the internet, not between Korean internet and the web. I have toyed around with the network settings, and although sometimes after switching from "Automatic" to a fixed connection I get some sites to work, it usually only lasts a short time and eventually the same sites stop working. I reset my cache regularly to make sure I'm not getting sent to cached sites, but this also doesn't help. Further, my Apple Mail, Skype and AIM accounts jump between being connected and disconnected randomly as well. Again, this is isolated to my own computer, which is why I'm so confused.

  • Problems after upgrading to iTunes version 6

    Hello,
I've been going through the threads a lot since I have had problems after upgrading to iTunes v. 6. It looks like a lot of people have had the same issues, and I have tried some things that were recommended. After I upgraded, iTunes would not open. I tried:
    1. deleting sidb file
    2. doing the msconfig thing suggested in discussion boards
    3. going into safe mode and deleting 4 and 6 letter weird files in DOS - I found 3 that I deleted
iTunes worked after this -- then I bought a song and it said my computer was not authorized, after I authorized computer (that never happened before), iTunes worked for about 15 more minutes and then closed down abruptly. I haven't been able to open it since.
I also downloaded Spybot search & destroy and that did not find anything. I am using McAfee, and have scanned for viruses with McAfee and AdAware.
Now, when I restart my computer, a bunch of windows pop up with Chinese/Japanese looking characters and say that device (I think) was not found. I seem to be able to use everything except iTunes and Quicktime. When I open the Task Manager, iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe and qttask.exe are there, but when I click on Quicktime or iTunes the file flashes in Task Manager and then disappears.
I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be apppreciated -- I'd like to be able to open iTunes!

    Hello,
    I used Nickroo's post:
I was able to get iTunes launched (with the help of Tech Support) in a very unsafe environment. I owe it to those who may need this after me. It will get you going, but you will be extremely vulnerable to internet virus assaults. Please do not use this approach, until you have exhausted every other available solution for your issue in the KB.
There are three Steps 1) Uninstall 2) Disble and 3) Reinstall.
UNISTALL Uninstall iTunes using Windows utility Add Remove Program available in Control Panel.
DISABLE Disable all third party System Services and Startup Items using using MSCONFIG utility as described in Service Document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    RE-INSTALL Re-install iTunes6 + QT7. Launch it under the Selective Startup Option.
It worked ! You realize among other things at this point you have your Antivirus and Firewall disabled. When I started my computer in the Normal Startup Option, iTunes fails to work again. So I have ahead of me the long and ardous task of ruling out the service that is causing conflict with iTunes6. Then work with the software vendor to arrive at a solution.
This seems to have worked so far- I haven't started to go through ruling out what made iTunes not work; I also haven't tried to connect my iPod or burn a CD, so we'll see.

  • Sound problems after export media in premiere pro cs6

    hello,
i recently started usining premiere c6 and after exported my project to mpeg-dvd i noticed that sound quality is reasonably lost,  than exported sound  separatedly without video to wav and result was the same bad. The imported sound source was really good, recorded in studio- wav 24 bit 48000. Before i used cs3 and never had such a sound problem after export video.
    thank you very much,
    Poly

It's difficult to speculate without hearing the original and the export.  Can you upload them?
