Very strange text on screen - Server 10.2.8
One place I work has a Mac network based around a G4 1.25 Ghz server running 10.2.8 Server and some Mk II iMacs running normal 10.2.8. Yesterday when I came in the server was showing a black screen with the following text scrolling down the screen in great lines:
diskOs9; Ox5 (UNDEFINED) <- written down in haste, I think I got the O as a letter not a number 0
... touching mouse or keyboard added further strange text and then it would return to the above.
Totday it all seems happy. But somehow I doubt if this is healthy. Any advice greatly appreciated. I'm trying to persuade the outgoing CEO not to set in train the acquisition of PCs, if only because I genuinely think it would end up costing more in the long run, and the place is hard up already!
I'm also wondering if the batteries on these machines are getting old - the network dates from 2003. Some of the last saved dates on the server are definitely totally wrong. Moreover there are strange things happening too; last week my files were dated things like 1911, 1942 etc etc, this week they are perfectly OK.

Cursor issue - strange text on screen
Hi folks, very computer illiterate so please excuse. I have some lines of text attached to the cursor and to various areas of the screen - toolbar at top, dock at bottom of screen, all files on desktop. Have turned off computer, unplugged it and said abracadabra. Text still there like a bug that has attached itself. Text is in the form of a block made up of small chunks of 5 tiny vertical lines in 4 columns of 8 chunks. Any ideas how I can get rid of it?

Those symptoms could unfortunately indicate video hardware trouble. Take a look at this old thread in the iMac G5 forum (there are a number of similar threads there as well):

Is your display similar to the image link in the first post there? See the other posts in that thread as well.
What kind of computer are you using? Other models can have similar video hardware issues, but iMac G5s are particularly susceptible to these, my own previous computer included.
Your own problem still could be from a software issue, but I would run Apple Hardware Test - it should be on one of the the original install discs that came with your computer. -
Very strange screen problem (previous app leaves mark)
I'm Danielle, i'm from the Netherlands and i'm having a very strange problem with my iPad mini (bought It August 2013).
never had problems with my iPad, but since a few weeks i have à strange problem with my screen.
when i open an app, for example messages, and i use it for a while, and then return to the home screen or go to another app,the messages app leaves a mark o'n the screen at the left side of my screen (an area of 2 cm from the Side). my english is not very good but im trying to describe it.
I cant make a print screen of iT because its a problem with the screen So you dont see iT on a print screen.
so:
- i see a mark of THE previous screen(app) on my screen
- first i throught iT was: in dutch we call it doorgebrand, translated in english: burn through (dont know if i translated it right). Like a old computer when you are working at a screen for to long so letters and text are printed, permanently, on the Screen (Thats why you have screen savers).
- but: it disapears in a few minutes or if i open a black screen.
- It's not very clear to see (The longer i used the app, The clearer the Mark) and iT has horizontal stripes
i hope someone has experience with this problem or knows what i have to do.
i never heard of this problem before and i cant Find iT on Google.

danielle from the netherlandsA workaround is to turn the brightness down, it may reduce the 'burn in' less & makes it less noticeable.
You should get in contact with Apple ASAP if you consider it bad enough to need repair, it should have a 1 year warranty. I suspect it is considered just to be how it behaves. -
My phone is saying all my storage for pictures is taken up when I only have 154 picture.. It happened when I got my screen fixed at a kiosk in a mall and I had 2,000 pictures when I gave it to him and when I got it back I had 0 but my wallpapers remained.. Very strange it's as if my phone still has the pictures on there.. But I can't see them. Anybody know what I should do :( I keep having to delete apps because I have no more storage for no reason :(((
You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Very strange error in text properties - AI CS6
Hello Everyone,
This morning I found very very STRANGE error in Adobe CS6 about text properties. Here you go.
In the picture one text 'ei and mosterd' was bold.
But after copy to new string the bold characters are changed to 'ig and mosterdz'.
This is very strange error I have seen ever.
Do you guys have any reason why CS6 act like this?
also do you have any option to fix this issue?
For your information:
I just done copy past. Nothing else.
All the properties are same for both.
No difference except the text string size
I tried the same file in different machines for check. But I still see the same error in all the machines.
System properties:
Mac os x: 10.8.5
Processor 2,8 Ghz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB
Software: Adobe CS6

Very Strange Rendition of the "Blue Screen" Problems
So I'm familiar with some of the blue screen freezes, but the problems that I am encountering are very very strange, so let me start:
Two computers are affected: a MacBook Pro and an Aluminum iMac. Both computers are running Leopard.
The MacBook Pro:
A few days ago, it crashed to the blue screen. Turned the machine off and powered it back on. The computer goes to the gray apple screen, then to the blue screen. Once at the blue screen, it does this: Blue screen for a few seconds -> progress indicator spins for a few seconds and disappears -> Mouse shows up for a few seconds and disappears -> Blue screen -> Progress indicator -> Mouse. It cycles like this indefinitely. I tried deleting the loginwindow preferences. I also tried deleting application enhancer preferences, no luck...
The iMac:
Started up fine. After a few minutes of not using the machine, it will go to the blue screen. Turn machine off and it starts again. Here's where it gets strange: If you start up with safe mode, the iMac exhibits the blue screen cycle on login that the MacBook Pro experiences. Without safemode, it started. So, I tried creating a new user account to see if it was user preferences, and up on doing that, now the iMac gets hung up on the blue screen login cycle just like the MacBook Pro with or without safe mode.
So... weird/misc. parts:
Two machines that have been running leopard for some time, no recent upgrades.
Problems starting happening at around the same time.
Computers linked on LAN and Time Capsule.
Both computers using MobileMe.
I'm stuck - any ideas?!?!

the MacBook Pro did not have automatic login and had the problems. The iMac did have automatic login and did not have the problems. When automatic login was disabled on the iMac, it did have the problems. When the iMac used safemode, which disables automatic login, it had the problems also.
So... clearly something with the login window is messed up... but I tried deleting the login window preferences with no avail. Not sure what this means, but interesting I suppose. -
VERY strange lag on a Dell Optiplex 760
I thought it would be a good idea to keep a 16GB flash drive on my keychain that booted Arch so I could work on HW for college in a consistent OS! Everything is working great so far, but I ran into a very strange problem with a Dell Optiplex 760. During the normal Arch init process, everything loads great, except for when it gets to the udev stage where everything hangs. But here's the strange part of this scenario: the problems go away when I start typing random keys or move the mouse! If I don't do this, the system hangs completely from what I can tell. This happens at the console and with X.
The service tag for this machine is FDCQQJ1, and the dell.com driver area brings up this list of hardware and (windows) drivers for it.

Strange Errors from Import Server on Schema-based maps for repeating nodes
I have already posted one thread about this, but perhaps some more in-depth information is required:
We have uploaded our schema into the console, and have mapped the following multi-node file to it:
CUSTOMER <repeating node>
MDM_CUST (new Customer number returned)
CUSTOMER(mapped back from XI for RECORD MATCHING)
CREATE_DATE (text field)
CONTACT<repeating node>
CONTACT_NO (RECORD MATCHING : NON-QUALIFIER)
CONTACT_SAP_NO (QUALIFIER)
[NOTE: There are other qualifers for CONTACT, but only this one
qualifier is being returned and is the only field that would and should be updated.
The other fields should be left alone. However, it appears to overwrite EVERYthing
with NULL other than these two fields. The CONTACT_NO is the sole qualifer on
the table. It is a calculated field that equals the Auto-ID that is also produced on
the table - but obviously not mapped.]
PARTNER<repeating node>

In the Customer main table, all records are matched on CUSTOMER. The CONTACT_NO non-qualifer is matched to the CONTACT qualified lookup table directly since it is the only available non-qualifier. For the PARTNER table, the three qualifiers are mapped and then a compound field is created to map to the PARTNER table entry.
We have the Configurations set at:
Default Multi-Valued Update: Replace
Default Qualified Update: Replace
Default Matching Qualifiers: None
Our record matching is: Create / Update(ALL MAPPED FIELDS) / Update(ALL MAPPED FIELDS)
When the map is reused, the repeating nodes are all recognized, be it one node or many. However, when the map is reused, it does not automatically map the values for many of the Partner fields (nor the compound field) though the fields are correctly mapped.
Also, when we attempt to use Import Server to automate the mapping, we use the mdis.ini set to
Automap Unmapped Value=True
Unmapped Value Handling=Add
Always Use Unmapped Value Handling=False
We get a very strange error saying that :
[code]Encountered a pre-SP4 map. The map needs to be upgraded to SP4.
Solution: Please, Launch the Import Manager GUI using the same source file and simply save the map.[code]
Could it be that our MDM 5.5 SP4 is not compatible with schemas generated with XI v.7 SP9?
All of our MDM is 5.5 SP4. It makes no sense that we would get THIS kind of error. Also, I am questioning our combination of these and other configurations since it doesn't always seem to do what it shouldHi Donald,
this sounds good so far. Just a short hint: you've set "Default Qualified Update: Replace". This explains why Import server "appears to overwrite EVERYthing
with NULL other than these two fields.". The reason is the replace. A replace means that the old values are completely deleted and only the new incoming ones are stored. I'd suggest to use any of the Update possibilities.
Note: the definitions you set in in the record matching step are mainly for the new records in the main table! Records in qualified look ups are handled differently! If you open your map in Import Manager, switch to tab "Map Fields/Values". Select a field that is your non qualifier. Right-Click on it and choose "Set qualified update" from the context menu. Now you can define which qualifiers can be used for the qualified look up matching. And you can define as well what should happen with new and/or existing records.
Regarding the value mapping: do you use keymapping? Or do you use simple values only? Do you save the map everytime you add a new value mapping?
Regarding the issue "Encountered a pre-SP4 map. The map needs to be upgraded to SP4. Solution: Please, Launch the Import Manager GUI using the same source file and simply save the map". This sounds very likely like a bug in MDIS and should be reported to SAP!

Very strange Popup - can't get rid of it
I've been getting a very strange popup lately when I go to certain sites and I can't get rid of it. It's an advertising thing that thinks for some reason that I live in Oakland (which i don't but is nearby). I also noticed that on certain websites now autofill puts in Oakland and some sites say i am logging in from Oakland.
The popup looks like an XP window but is messed up and the text hangs over the edge of the box. It bounces around in the middle of my screen and makes accessing anything under it impossible.
I have cleared cookies, cache and history. I have pop block on. This happens in Safari and in Firefox. I can send a screen shot but can't seem to paste one here.
If I have accidentally gotten some adware installed, how can I find and get rid of it???

IPad acting very strange (HELP!)

something very strange is happening to my iPad 2 and I'm hoping someone could help me out.
So my iPad was working fine few hours ago, and had approximately 50-60% battery left. So I put it to sleep by clicking on the power button on top right, and did my business. After few hours, I tried to turn on the screen as usual by clicking the power button but it won't turn on. So I tried long-clicking because I figured somehow it turned off, but it didn't register. I tried clicking the home button but nothing.
So I plugged in the charger (despite knowing there was battery left) and the iPad turned on as if it was completely turned off (and asking my passcode and stuff). When I put the passcode, it opens but the battery says 100%. When I unplug the charger, it goes dead again.
Even more weirdly, when I keep charger plugged, it stays awake for a minute then completely goes dead again. Then after few seconds, the apple logo comes up (as if rebooting) and turns on again. The cycle continues.
I did not drop it or anything, it was just sitting there, and it worked perfectly fine up until now. I'm very confused why it's acting this way.
Is this hardware malfunction, plain and simple? Should I take it to the apple store and have them fix it or replace it?update:
not sure if this is relevant but I turned on my ipad's icloud so i can move my camera roll to photostream (of course ipad still won't work without being plugged).
Soon after, i got a message on ipad screen saying:
"verification failed.
the certificate for this server is invalid. you might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be setup.icloud.com which could put your confidential info at risk"

Oracle Forms 6i - very strange problem.

This is my first post, I started working with Oracle Forms and I recently came across a very strange issue, Forms do not know if it works differently than other technologies, but this error left me somewhat surprised.
Well, see the following situation:
System / BD Production (Access through VPN)
System / BD Test (access through VPN)
System Development (Location) / Test Bank (VPN).
Access to the environment TEST = OK. As
- I put the shortcut Oracle 6i forms to the address of *. FMX server through VPN.
Access to the Production environment = NOT OK. As
- I put the shortcut Oracle 6i forms to the address of *. FMX server through VPN.
Note: The application opens, all right. But when choosing a menu form, this form is not loaded on the screen. As the link it was disabled.
It can be kind of access? NO. For tested with the login of a user that is in place (no access through vpn) and the failure persists. I went to this user my login, and can access it normally.
Can be connected through VPN? I think NOT, because if the TEST environment would not work.
In short: When you access the TEST environment, everything works. I can open any form of the system through the menus, but in production, the forms do not open, as if he had called the forms.
Recalling that the people who are local access normally. As with my login on with it.
Would anyone answer me what might be happening?

Caps lock button acting very strange.
I recently got a Lenovo T420 thinkpad. Everything has been great until earlier today I tried to log-in to buzzport ( a GT website) and when I hit the caps lock button all these weird things happened. Google Chrome went into full screen, and the "elements" thing came up. Im not sure exactly what it is, but it looks like some sort of HTML code for the website. oh and if it also enters the text "09" when caps lock is pressed. well anyways, now this happens everytime I press caps lock. I opened notepad and pressed caps lock. The result was "09" followed by an endless stream of 1's which continued until I pressed caps lock again. This is very strange and I couldn't find any information about this on google. I don't know what could have caused this, but its very frustrating because this is a brand new laptop. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
edit: so i've been playing with it, and im convinced that basically instead of just doing what caps lock does, it is pressing a series of other buttons as well including the 09, the 1's, and opening what i now know is called the elements pannel which normally opens with ctrl + shift + C. so in other words, for some reason pressing caps lock preses the buttons "09 ctrl + shift + C 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111"
edit 2: ok it just got weirder. I fixed the problem...sort of. I started thinking about everything i have done differently today. I mean ive only had the lap top for a few days after all. tonight is the first night i used the mute button. i unmuted the laptop, and now everything is fine. if i mute, then caps lock acts weird again. I could just always go to zero volume rather than mute, but just as a curiosity, why is this happening? it makes no sense!I noticed that some problems don't seem to get attention. I am typing this using a bluetooth keyboard on top of my G4 PowerBook, which is hardly an elegant solution to my caps lock problem. If I spend close to $2000 on a laptop, which is close to the most I spend on any consumer product after a house and car, is it unreasonable to expect that after a mere four years, it can be repaired, rather than simply tossed aside. I am an expat living in a SE Asian country without any Apple Authorised resellers etc. When I make the trip to Thailand to get my machine fixed, I'd like to know that someone there will know what to do to sort this problem, without me being faced with the prospect of having to pay a lot of money to buy a new one or replace hardware that is not in fact needing replaced. That is why I posted on this forum. Was I mistaken in thinking that in the entire Mac using community, there isn't more than one other person having the same issue as me? Is anybody from Apple aware of this problem and do they have any idea how to fix it? I'm not seeking to be antagonistic here, I'd just like to think that somebody, somewhere out there has some idea, what has gone wrong with my PowerBook and can help me get it fixed.
p.s I sorted out the large fuzzy Apple on startup by zapping the PROM, so that doesn't seem to be directly connected to the game of green light tennis I can now play between my caps lock and num lock keys. (My caps lock key is permanently lit and when I try to turn it off, it reduces the volume of my speakers and "types" "rfr" and other such gobbledegook.) -
I have a 20 in flat screen that is about 3 years old. The other day I noticed strange lines/marks on the bottom of the screen. On a light page the marks are blue and on a dark screen the marks are red. The marks remind me of smears, like if you go to the store and the register tape is running out and it puts those funky marks on your receipt. It gets worse when I scroll up like it is smearing on the page. Very strange. I just hope this isn't going to be an expensive fix. Any help to my problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using Apple Mail 2.1.3 on a MacBook running OS 10.4.11. A very strange thing is happening. E-mail messages that I either sent or received months ago are showing up in my mailbox and receivers' mailboxes. In one case, a message someone had sent to me wound up in the mailbox of a third person, who was not included in the address list!! I have only two accounts, and have checked everything; only one account is showing the repeats Now, that account is my professional account, and it resides in three places: I use it on the laptop described here, I use it through Apple Mail on the much newer desktop Mac in my office, and I can run it through Web mail on my employer's server, which is where the professional account resides (I have a mailbox there, etc.) That program is called Zimbra.
My personal account is with Earthlink and is not doing the repeats. I access it either through my MacBook's Apple Mail or the Web; the Apple Mail on my office Mac is not configured to access the Earthlink server.
What IS going on here?? My friends, colleagues, and students (I teach college) are mystified by these ancient messages.

Storing Objects in Request Scope
