Very strange URL specific issue and VoIP

That's a mouthful of a subject, huh? Thanks in advance to any and all questions and thoughts on this odd dilemma.
Here's the setup. Running a new iMac hardwired to a Linksys router, router hardwired to a Centillium VoIP phone adapter (using ATT CallVantage), then finally to a cable modem (Bright House Networks - Road Runner). In addition to the iMac, I have an old iBook connected wirelessly, as well as a work Wintel laptop connected to the router. On the iMac and iBook am using Firefox.
Prior to a few days ago, everything worked great - no problems as all with anything. As of yesterday, without any upgrades / changes on my part, both the iMac and iBook refuse connecting to some, but not all, websites. The impacted sites seem to be My Yahoo, Google, etc. They will occasionally work, and then stop completely. I've cleared the cache etc., but still no luck.
"Smaller" websites seem to work just fine without any issues. When the impacted sites are not reachable, the typical, "Server not Found" window shows up instantly, almost as if there was no internet connection at all.
This issue is also present in identical circumstances when using Safari. Oddly enough, when using IE on the Wintel laptop, it doesn't happen.
While trying to isolate the issue, I realized that if the Centillium VoIP adapter is removed from the equation the problem does not happen. Of course I don't have phone service when I solve the problem this way, so it's not much of a solution.
The ATT CallVantage people have "escalated" the problem - and in fact the technician I was speaking to asked someone else in the call center, and the someone else was dealing with an identical problem at the same time.
I'm sure they'll get back to me, but thought you fine folks might have a faster resolution.

I've isolated the problem to the VoIP telephone adapter - when I remove it from the loop there are no problems. AT&T is sending a new one, hopefully when it is connected the issue will be history.
The odd thing is that after 2+ years of working fine, the VoIP adapter decided to let some traffic through, but not all. PING'ing (from any of the computers on my side of the adapter) some sites would not work at all, yet others would yield a response. I'm going to close this thread as answered, but I'll update any new info as I get it.

T500 2081 - Very Strange Standby/Sleep Issue (Cannot Wake Computer Up?)

In the last month or two, I have been experiencing issues when putting my T500 2081 (with dedicated graphics - currently using Energy savings mode, or integrated graphics) into sleep mode.
In the first month or so, the computer sometimes made a long sequence of beeps when I tried the wake the machine up, then computer then would restart and get stuck at a black screen. (A forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine) (Power indicator on, sleep indicator off)
Since then, I never got the beeps anymore, although it has progressed to just being stuck after the machine is awakened. (While the power indicator shows that the machine is on, the sleep (moon) indicator remains lit.) A force shutdown was still required to reboot the machine.
Now, it again has progressed to something totally different. When the computer awakes, the power will completely shut off for a second (it makes the same sound that is made when you forcefully shut down your computer), then the computer turns on again, but gets stuck at a black screen. (Power indicator is on, sleep indicator off) Once again, a forceful shutdown was required to reboot the machine.
If I were to look in the System event logs, it would see this whenever it freezes up after being awaken:
"The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition."
Interestingly, the computer would only freeze when it is put into sleep for a very long time. (ex. leaving the computer in sleep mode overnight versus putting it to sleep for 15 minutes.) The computer usually do not freeze when it is put into sleep for a short duration such as an hour or 15 minutes.
I was wondering if this would be caused by faulty drivers, or perhaps maybe a bug in the design of the video card drivers and/or the BIOS.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit SP2, BIOS version 3.00, and is using the latest switchable graphics driver provided by Lenovo. I have tried reinstalling the graphics drivers and resetting the BIOS settings to default. No avail. Anyone has the same issues and wanted to share their experiences?

I hope someone else will have some ideas.
Only two vague thoughts occur to me:
Vista SP2 is very new, so it might indeed be a BIOS or driver conflict, as you suggested.
Especially if you've recently updated the video driver, you might try rolling it back to an earlier version if possible.
As a work-around, can you just use hibernate for now? Or does that fail as well?

Very strange bug with AIR and native process (Windows 7, EXE)

Hello to everyone!
The situation is:
I've made an AIR Application, inside of that is running a native process - EXE file.
I'm using Flash CC as IDE and tried to use compile that as EXE with AIR 2.6 and 3.6 - results are same.
So I've insert inside a checking if Native Process is supported or not and the Native process is supported all the time.
When I've just installed the application and run it - the very first attempt is good - everything is working as a must: internal EXE is called by my Application with necessary parameters as many time as I'm need.
However if I'll close the App and then will run it again - internal EXE is not starting at all, doesn't depends on number of attempts to re-start of the App.
So only way is to uninstall, install it back and then you'll be one more session of successful internal EXE-requests, till the next re-start of the App.
That's it.
I've tried to "google it" but unsuccessful. Probably the bug is very rare.
Help me please?
Update: at compilation with Flash CC IDE it's working all the time with no any issues.
Update-2: when I'm running installator-EXE, there is going a notification "Same version is installed, etc." and then selected "Run Now" - there is also working with no problems.

Well, I've found the solution and answer by myself and here is it please:
In case with same situation as above you need to add just one line in your AS3-code
nativeProcessStartupInfo.workingDirectory = File.applicationDirectory;

EA4500 very strange wireless drop issue

So here's my issue, I just bought this EA4500 so I could use the 5.0 Ghz and get a new 2.4Ghz as my old Netgear would drop the signal on a fairly regular basis. I've set the channel on 2.4 to 1, 20 Mhz Channel, and my neighbors are for the most part using channels 6 and 11 (one guy is using channel 2 at 40Mhz but has a very low signal strength). The signal drops out sometimes as often as every 5 minutes, and now it is doing it on my new router. Here's the kicker, the 2.4 band falls out from my router and some of my neighbor's routers, no new signal seems to come up, but the 5.0 band on the EA4500 is just fine, as is the wired route. Is the 2.4 band just being assaulted at my home and I'll have to deal with it, or is it that my new router, old router, and my neighbor's routers, all suck, and we should all get refunds? Does anyone have any solutions to troubleshoot this beyond running a netstumbler like software, setting hard channels (including width), and long hours of trial and error? I am running this all from my macbook air, the 5.0Ghz is at 40Mhz, is the only signal, and is on a fixed channel.

If the channel is not the problem, then it could be the location of your router or another device might be causing interference. Your router should be on a higher and open location so that the signal would be broadcasted properly. Make sure your router is not too close to your modem or the modem is not on top of the router or the other way around. Cordless phones, garage door openers and microwave ovens may use the same frequency range and can also affect the wireless connection. By the way, try channel 6 or 11. Check if that would make a difference.

Very strange behavior with to_date and format 'yddd' after 31/12/2009

Hi, I have the following PL/SQL code which retrieve a date from a production batch code as fallow:

This code was perfectly working before 2010 and it used to return December 14, 2009.
And now the same code returns December 14, 2019.
And I can't use 'rddd' as format.
Any idea to resolve this issue ?

It's not strange at all, we are in 2010 now, so if don't specify the decade, century and millennium it takes the current: 2 (millennium) 0(century) 1(decade) and your year becomes 2019...
You have to add a byte to your year format to specify the decade:

Two very STRANGE problems with JWindow and JTextField

I am having some trouble in the program that I am making. It is a Swing based GUI.
I have a JWindow with a JPanel in it that holds JTextFields and JLabels.
problem1----I can't see a caret in any of the textfields but I can still enter text.
problem2----If I control + tab to another window, and control + tab to get back to the JWindow then I can see a caret, but the caret will not change if I click on another textfield and also I can't move to another textfield to enter text. If i do another control tab, then the textfield that i tried to switch to will have focus, but there is now two carets...the first one is where I was but that field does not have focus. I can do this control-tab for as many textfields as I need to fill, but it obviously is not practical.
I am using a call to super(Frame frame) when calling my JWindow but that didn't seem to fix it.

sounds like your problem, kinda. it looks more like a repaint issue, since u get two carets at the same time - as if the screen isn't refreshing enough (u could give it some Spearmint POLO :)

Very strange Boot Camp issue

I've got Boot Camp installed on my MacBook. When I copy an avi movie file from the hard disk to the Windows partition OR copy it from my other Mac over ethernet to the Windows partition on the MacBook BOTH copies get unplayable - even the original file!!
Before copying, the movie palyed just fine. After copying to the Boot Camp partition Quick Time says "Movie cannot be found" even though it's still a 400Mb file.
I've tried this several times and have not been able to restore the files. What on Earth is destroying the original AND the copy???
The only safe way to copy from Mac OS to Windows when running Boot Camp seems to be burning the file to a CD and then copying it in when running Windows.
Anyone else have this problem?

Unfortunately BootCamp is beta so it's probably full of little bugs. There was actually some rumblings on the internet that Apple is suggesting the use of Parallels VM which to me seems like a better deal anyway since you can run Widows applications from within OSX instead of booting into the actual Widows OS (of course neither of these appeal to me).
But I digress.... You might have better luck posting on the Apple BootCamp Discussions. Maybe someone over there might have had a similar situation and knows an answer for you.

Very strange!! i got the old web?

I have a very strange thing that happened and iam trying to figureout what is going on after i tried modifying tens or maybe hundreds of setting trying to solve it.
I have a motorola sbg6580 for my home perimeter i have forwared port 80 to my webserver and it works fine jst like always.
Now i also have an ASA 5505 which i configured for the webserver, after i put the webserver behind it the topology config was like this:
motorola sbg6580>ASA>switch>webserver1+webserver2+laptop. (forworded port 80 from the moto to the ASA external interface).
strangely, from the outside internet i can access only the old version of the website (i did updated the website the night before and it worked fine when connected directlly to the moto with out the ASA).
Then i found out that the old version of the website (website contects before update) also exist on the other web server so i figured OK i forgot to stop the other server's website, but when i stopped the other server'ways website the same thing keeps happening..i get the old website.
By the way (when i type the address of the intended website (ip address http://x.x.x.x) from a computer on the VLAN or the LAN I Get the updated view of the website and everything is fine, but when i access it from the internet i get the old unupdated view!!!
After that i got the webserver off the ASA's network and connected it directly to the moto like before when it was working fine (and i did the port forwarding to the server again) i got the same problem again..i get the old view of the website not the updated when i try to open it from the internet,but when i open it locally from the LAN i get the new updated website with no problem.
This got me thinking of three possibilities:(which are impossible to even think about):
1-Is there some caching function of the webserver it self for the old website or some where on the network? (if yes then how come i can open it just fine and view the updated website from the LAN or from the webserver host it self?) so this might be impossible which brings the thought of the second and most likely possibility which is:
2-The Motorolla router somehow have a malfunction wth it's forwarding capability (which is also not possible because when i send http request from the internet i do get the website but not the updated one but the old version which does not even exist on the server.
3-The ASA firewall is somehow contagious!!!
The question is (where exactly is this old website is view or layout is coming from after i tookout it's files from the server it self and replaced it with new files when are for the new updated website) , and how to fix it?
This is the first time i see such a thing and i have been trying for hours and hors to solve it or see where the problem is (i suspect problem in the moto router)

Apple has an out of warranty replacement program, the cost in the US is $199. I don't know if any original iPhones are still available under this program(remember, that phone was discontinued sometime ago), but even if they were, why would you spend $200 on a discontinued phone?

Premiere Pro CS5.5 -very strange issue with the color tones and Preview-

I deal with a very strange and not usual problem in Premiere Pro CS5.5 (also the version CS5). What I try to do is just a simple color correction. The problem occurs when I try to use Three Way Color Corrector but it happens with Fast Color Corrector also.
When applying the Three-Way Color Correction and without changing anything else (just applying), can be seen in the preview of the soft how sudden changes in color tones. For example, the gray tone becomes a little more green, but also can be seen very easy a change in the other color tones too. In fact even RGB Parade show the same thing. This is very, very strange and unacceptable and saw that it happens when trying to use Colorista II too.
I tried the same thing in Sony Vegas Pro 11 and I downloaded the trial version of Edius 6 to convince me if the same thing happens. Not! In Sony Vegas and Edius everything is working correctly, I have not experienced these problems in the preview's of this 2 others softs.
This issue is very annoying because every possible color correction is based on what we see in the preview and if in this preview the tones are seen altered realize that can not make a decent color correction. Yes Jim, you're right. No changes in the scopes when one just apply RGB Curves, Fast Color Corrector, RGB Color Corrector or the Three way Color Corrector (last three thanks to the new update 6.03). I already wrote that Adobe team has been able to fix this bug for some of the tools/effects.
But Brightness&Contrast? Change Color? Color Balance? Levels? MBLooks? Twixtor? Colorista II? Does it seem normally that all scopes or just one of them jump when you just apply one of these effects/tools? Not to say that in some situations even the tones change (especially in shadows&midtones).
You say this is something "very minimal". I say it is not so. I don't find normally to make a very detalied CC with Three way Color Corrector and then when applying Colorista/MBLooks, for example, the scopes jump and inclusively some tones may be influenced. And I left clear examples in this topic where you can see that this is possible. I don't know if this is "very minimal" or not, but is really so impossible to edit in Premiere without this "very minimal" issue?!? How can it be possible in other softs (Edius, Media Composer, Vegas Pro) and in Premiere not?!?
One more thing: many of us use intermediate codecs in the editing process. Do you find normally that a AVCHD video have the lumninance at approximately 110IRE, to export it directly to Cineform and then import it in Premiere, and the waveform shows the luminance at 100IRE?!? How is this possible?!? So the AVCHD video have a 110IRE luminance, you convert this video to Cineform without changing anything, and then this Cineform video have the luminance at 100IRE?!? And anyone can verify this example.
So, how can one trust in this soft?!?

Performance Issue : Why does ADF Taskflow Portlet (JSF bridge portlet) loading ADF Specific images, css, js everytime from portlet producer with dynamic URL with portlet_id and context parameters?

We have used WSRP Portlet in Webcenter Portal Page. The Portlet is created using JSF Bridge out of ADF Bounded Taskflow.
It is causing Performance issue. Every time static content like js, css and images URLs are downloaded and the URL contain portlet_id and few other dynamic parameters like resource_id, client_id etc.
We are not able to cache these static content as these contains dynamic URL. This ADF Specific images, js and css files are taking longer time to load.

Strange...
I can't reproduce this because i have issues with creating portlets... If i can solve this issue i will do some testing and see if i can reproduce the issue...
Can you create a new producer with a single portlet that uses a simple taskflow and see if that works?
Are you also using business components in the taskflows or something? You can try removing some parts of the taskflow and test if it works so you can identify the component(s) that causes the issues.

Files transferred to external HD end up in trash - very strange issue

Hi,
I seem to be having a very strange issue, hopefully somebody can help or has seen this before.
Hardware: MacBook Air, Western Digital Passport external HD, 250gb, formatted NTFS.
Software: OSX 10.7 Lion, Paragon (allows me to write to an NTFS formatted HD)
Issue Summary: I copy something to the external HD; I empty trash; the file I copied is deleted from the external HD. It doesn't happen every time.
I do also seem to have a persistent folder in trash called "WD Sync Data" that won't go away unless I re-delete it as it's also in the root of the drive. Not sure if this is related somehow.
Recently I copied 3 video files inside a folder to the HD, then disconnected the HD. When I reconnected it a while later and noticed that inside the "WD Sync Data" folder in trash were the 3 files I'd copied. I then looked inside the same folder on the root of the drive and the files were there, instead of inside the folder that I'd copied to the drive, which had vanished. If I hadn't noticed and had emptied the trash, those files would've been deleted.
It's definitely happened more than once; last time I actually deleted the files from my computer after copying, then emptied trash, and they were gone from the external HD also.

Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions?

Quick update: I ran a verify then a repair in Disk Utility as there were a couple of errors. Hopefully this has solved the issue, however it'd still be interesting to know if anyone's come across this before and what caused it?

Trying to do something very strange with layouts and painting components

I'm trying to do something very strange with changing the layout of a container, then painting it to a bufferedImage and changing it back again so nothing has changed. However, I am unable to get the image i want of this container in a new layout. Consider it a preview function of the different layouts. Anyway. I've tried everything i know about swing and have come up empty. There is probably a better way to do what i am trying to do, i just don't know how.
If someone could have a look perhaps and help me out i would be much appreciative.

Looks like you didn't read the API for Container#doLayout().
Causes this container to lay out its components. Most programs should not call this method directly, but should invoke the validate method instead.
There's also a concurrency issue here in that the panel's components may be painted to the image before revalidation completes. And your GUI, like any Swing GUI, should be constructed and shown on the EDT.

I have over 4000 songs in my Itunes library. I have 25-30 playlists det up. I just did a sync on my daugthers itouch and 85% of my playlists dissappeared. i rebooted my pc....playlists are still not there. very strange. advice appreciated

Thanks, Michael. Itunes Match is not enabled on my daughter's Itouch. I have subscribed to it and have used the service to back up my song purchases. I merely did a sync via USB (as normal) to her Itouch. The sync wiped out 85% of the playlists that were on my home computer for the last seveal years. I have updated her itouch multiple times - both before and after I had subscribed to iTunes Match. After the last sync to her iTouch, the playlists just disappeared. My home computer is the main device I use to manage my Itunes library and my playlists. I am not sure what happened?
BTW - how are you affiliated with Apple? Are you? I feel like I have explained the issue pretty clearly, but your responses seem to focus on her iTouch and not my computer, where the playlists are managed. I want to know how to get the playlists back on my computer.

A very very strange issue on BlazeDS Deserializing

I run into a very very strange issue on BlazeDS Deserializing. Is there any hint or idea? Thanks a lot!
Scenario 1:
Both the browser(firefox or IE) and the midtier (BlazeDS ,java) are on the same machine.
Actual result:
Everything works fine. All the properties in the Flex Object could be mapped to the Java Class
Scenario 2:
The browser(firefox or IE) and the midtier (BlazeDS ,java) are on the different machine.
Actual result:
Sometimes it works fine.
And most of the time it does not work fine. Only the data in List is mapped correctly. All the values of simple data type such as int are mapped to 0 .
Let me simplify the problem.
The objects of Class B is always stored in the ArrayCollection assocItems of Class A
Flex side:

public var assocItems : ArrayCollection=new ArrayCollection();
The id , name in Flex Class A and assocItems in Class B could be deserialize to correct value . But the id of Class B is always mapped to 0. This is not correct.
The log level of BlazeDS is configured to Debug. From the log I can see that each value is passed from Flex side to Java server side correctly.

In conclusion,
1. It’s an issue with only default types
2. It does not occur every time
3. It does not occur when the browser(firefox or IE) and the midtier (BlazeDS ,java) are on the same machine
Have you ever run into the similar problems? And what’s your solution?

I checked, when I hard-code the constant in linq, the generated sql is like this:

if I pass a variable to the query with same value, the sql is like this:
SELECT "Extent1"."AA" AS "AA"
FROM (SELECT "TBL"."AA" AS "AA"
FROM "USERNAME"."TBL" "TBL") "Extent1"
WHERE ("Extent1"."AA" = '1062303212007000121' /* @p__linq__0 */) (@p__linq__0 is passed as parameter)
The only difference is a paramter. I can't figure out why there is such a impact on performance.
