Very strange wifi happenings with my iPhone 5

Here's what's up:
I have an iPhone 5 and it is updated to the latest iOS release.  The WiFi connection does something very strange.
There are two saved networks in the phone.  One is a hidden wifi network from work (a public school) that also uses an auto proxy (a URL address).  The other is my home wifi.  I have Verizon Fios.
When only my home network is saved, the wifi at home works perfectly. However, when both networks are saved, the home wifi pretty much doesn't work.  It seems to constantly disconnect and connect with the network; web pages do not load, etc.   At work, with both networks saved in the phone, it works perfectly.
For the life of me I cannot figure out what is wrong.  Now, to make matters even more mysterious, I have an iPad2 with the exact same network settings and with both networks saved in that, it works perfectly no matter where I go- home or work.
Please, does anyone have any ideas as to what is messed up?

  • I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5

I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

  • HT1212 Weak wifi connection with my iphone 5?  Causes?  Cure?

Since I've gotten a new iphone 5 it has very weak connection to our home wifi signal.  We are using WEP encryption (trying to avoid other's problems with WPA)  I bought the iphone 5 from Verizon.  Will exchanging the iphone 5 help or is this a endemic problem with the iphone 5. I have an iphone 4 and iphone 4S and they have a strong connection when held in the same spot ast the iphone 5.

    What other's problems with WPA?
WEP is not very secure - very easy to crack. If you have a Windows PC connected to your network, I would consider changing the encryption to WPA right away.
The same problem with every other wi-fi network your iPhone 5 has access to?
You do know the iPhone 5 includes an "n" compatible wireless card that the iPhone 4 and 4S does not include?
Have you checked the manufacturer's website for your wireless router for a firmware update for your wireless router model that has not been installed?
Have you tried resetting your wireless router and modem?

  • Wifi problems with my iPhone 4S since 6.1.2 update

I thought I had fixed this problem with my iPhone with a change in my home router settings but I did not.  Since the 6.1.2 update I have had problems with my wifi connections.  I have an Airport Extreme wifi network with multiple airport extremes extending the signal throughout our house.  I am only able to communicate with the internet using our wifi network if I am in the same room as the main airport extreme.  If I am a room away from any of the routers I get a message that my iPhone "can't join the wireless network".  If I am in a room standing near one of the other airport extremes I can join the network, my iPhone will show that I am connected to the wifi network with a full signal but I have no communication with the internet.  How I have determined this is by turning cellular off, wifi on & attempted to pull up a web page.  When I do this anywhere other than by our main Airport Extreme I get the message that I am not connected to the Internet.
We have multiple other devices on our home wifi network, i.e. other iPhones, iPads, computers, etc. We aren't having this problem with any other of our devices.  I am not sure if this is a software corruption issue or a hardware issue. I have not dropped my iPhone or done anything else to it that might have damaged it.  I have tried resetting the wireless networks on my iPhone & that has not worked. I have read these boards & have tried the various suggestions, including the one about putting your iPhone in the freezer.  (When I told my husband about trying the freezer suggestion he seriously thought I had lost my marbles...)
I would appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions that anyone has.

I have a diff issue!!! I has still able to connect to wifi network I had connected before the update to 6.1.2. But few days back when I tried connecting to a new wifi network and it kept saying incorrect password. The worst thing happened after I look up online for help that say try the " reset network setting" solution!! After I did the "reset network setting" step I bloody **** looses all connection to those network I had connected to before the update and I can't get back connection now. *** did apple still allow their users to update a software that has so many bugs. They should had prevent their users from updating right after they know there are bugssssss..!!!!!

  • I am facing wifi problem with my iPhone 4?

I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 5.0 & currently it is running on ios 5.0.1. Problem with it is that it connects to my home wifi & works as long as I am using it but as soon as I stop using the the wifi for some time & try to use it again it doesn't work although it shows the wifi connection on the phone. Then by deactivating & activating wifi again on the iPhone it starts working. It repeats every time whenever I stop using wifi  & I have to repeat the process even if I stop using it for just moment.
I have already done the following:
    1. Forget this network & then connect again
    2. Reset network settings
    3. Reset network settings , switch off the phone & switch on again after more than two minutes
    4. Reset all settings
    5.Restore to original settings
My PC is working OK all through & two of my friends visited me who are using iPhone 4 & iPhone 3gs both with ios 4.3.3 woring fine without any problem.
Please any body suggest what can I do to resolve the problem? Many many thanks.

  • ITunes 12 WiFi Sync with iPad/iPhone not working

Previously with Mavericks and iTunes 11, my iPad and iPhone showed up in the side bar and I could sync from the either device. With Yosemite and iTunes 12.0.1.26, neither device shows up in iTunes 12 (That I can find). Hitting Sync Now in General/iTunes Wifi Sync on an iPhone results in a continuous "Looking for John's iMac" without ever succeeding. My iMac is connected to a current gen AP Extreme via Ethernet. I have also enabled WiFi on the iMac with no luck.
Any ideas on how to get this to work?
    TIA
    John

I too have been having this issue for some time. For me it's after I upgraded to Yosemite. I also have an old MacBook running Lion that syncs with my kid's old iPhone4 over WiFi. I noticed that the MacBook has no problems syncing with the iPhone4. Meanwhile, my iMac running Yosemite was having other problems. Namely, its computer name keeps getting changed by having (#) appended to the end after every sleep/wake cycle. See this thread for an explanation of the symptom:  computer name changed automatically
After doing some research on here and some experimentation on my own, I came up with this possible fix.
We have 3 iDevices that sync to the iMac (Yosemite). Two of them are connected to it by USB at night. The other (iPad Air) is strictly WiFi. As of the Yosemite upgrade, the iPad Air has had issues connecting to the iMac via WiFi. So today I checked on the iPad and sure enough in WiFi Sync prefs it was looking for "MyMac (3)" instead of "MyMac". I made sure the computer name on the iMac is fixed (MyMac), then connected the iPad Air to it to initiate a sync. In WiFi prefs, it now correctly points to "MyMac". I disconnected the iPad and quit out of iTunes. I relaunch iTunes and it promptly shows all 3 iDevices. I can also initiate a remote WiFi sync from within iTunes.
I'm not sure if the computer name change issue originated in Mavericks because I didn't use it for long. But for Yosemite, this seems to have fixed it for me and it beats restoring all my iDevices. Let me know if this works for you.

  • Time capsule wifi connectivity with iPad, iPhone, and other?

I just purshaced a Time Capsule, and it is up and running. I can connect my Macbook Air wirelessly, but I am not able to connect with my Iphone neither Ipad. What would the problem be?

Same as what i just posted here. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4843683?tstart=0
I would suggest factory reset the TC if the above doesn't work and just try again.. the idevices can be more difficult to get running.

  • Very strange and very frustrating WiFI issue with U460 Ideapad.

I have been very happy with my U460 up until this point.  A very good value I thought.
    Problem:
Unit running well.  One day my wife complains that the wifi is dropping on her.  We reset the router and it seemingly went right back to normal operation.
This continued however, not more than 10 minutes later.  I took a look at it and diagnosed it as a wifi router issue.  I called my isp and they reccomended I started cycling the channels used on the router to avoid any interference.  So I did that.
Absoulutely no improvement.  About that time I brought other machines into the mix and they would have no issue at all while the u460 would drop the connection periodically.
So I called Lenovo and they had me remove some bloatware from the computer, I forget the name of the program.  They also had me reinstall the drivers for the wifi.  This did nothing, but I gave it a day or two to let it work itself out.
Next thing was to flash the hard drive completely.  This did nothing.  In fact, this made the situation somewhat worse for some reason, but it is hard to really quantify what is "worse".  They then sent a box for me to return the machine.
Return 1: From all I can tell they just flashed the hard drive again and put it back in the box.  The notes said they saw this issue I saw.
I almost immediately call them up again and they send me a RMR number to send the u460 back
Return 2: Replaced WIFI adaptor and flashed hard drive.  Again they note on the RMR that they saw this issue.
This has had no improvement whatsoever.
    Further debug steps:
I note that the closer I am to the router the longer the wifi will stay connected, but it will drop out eventually
Ethernet is totally ok.  Bluetooth is OK
Seems to disconnect on other wifi access points other than my own.
I am worried to send this back again. I have a lot of consumer electronics experience as I work in support for a major technology firm.  To me I have absolutely no idea what the heck is going on. I think the software is clean, and I can't even imagine what the hardware issue would be.  From browsing this forum this problem is nearly completely unique except insofar as removing the bloatware which pertains to the wifi.
Any help would be appreciated before I call Lenovo again to send the machine back.  The next option is just EBAY as a broken item to recoup some of the cost.

  • WiFi problem with my iPhone 4S after updating to iOS 6.0.1

After updating my iPhone 4S to 6.0.1, the WiFi don't detect any WiFi and does not connect to any WiFi.
In the Wi fi setting it does not let me slid it to on.
Any suggestion?? New software update please apple. I need my WiFi.

Me, again. A couple of weeks ago (around Christmas) my wifi stopped working and the toggle switch greyed out again. I found a solution guide from Apple, followed all the steps (which ultimately included a complete factory reset). I was able to back up all my info before hand with iTunes. I ran my phone as a new device, and the problem was still there. The wifi wouldn't work at all and the toggle on/off switch was greyed out. Finally I gave up and tried Apple support. I chatted with a rep, told them everything I saw and tried, and within 10 minutes they determined that I needed my phone replaced (my phone was new in April 2012). All I had to do was go down to the store, tell the rep there exactly what I told the one on the phone, and within 15 minutes I had a brand new phone FREE. I brought it home, plugged it in, and restored all my info (including passwords, wallpaper, app settings, EVERYTHING!!) as if I never had a problem. My wifi has been impeccable on the new phone. I still haven't determined whether it was the 1 year warranty or the Apple Care replacement plan that covered it, but either way, totally worth the trouble.

  • Can I get wifi access with my iphone 4 verizon in china?

I have an iphone 4 with Verizon.  I have been told I can't get phone service, but have also been told I can get to the internet in hotels with wifi to get my webmail.  Is this true?  Will Google translate work under these conditions?  Maps?

WiFi should work anywhere in the world. China blocks a lot of sites including (last I heard) the non-Chinese version of Google, though, so whether or not you'll be able to use Google Translate I don't know. I don't see Translate on the Google Hong Kong site, so it seems doubtful, but someone else here may know.
    Regards.

  • Mid-2011 Macbook Air - very slow wifi yet with OSX 10.9.2 (The Return)

    Referring to this previous post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5911893?tstart=0
Problem remains the same, wifi is simply impossible to use in OS X, and my "solution" to avoid throwing my Macbook Air into the rubbish bin is keep using Elementary OS (an Ubuntu-based linux distro). It basically saved my life. I think my last try will be 10.9.3, and if it doesn't fix the problem, I will quit OSX for good.

Please take all the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it (not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.)
    Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
