Very strange.   Wrong AppleID in Find My iPhone

My daughter upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 5C and really likes it.  But something very strange and perplexing happened with the Find My iPhone app.
The first time she launched this app the AppleID/e-mail was prepopulated with a completely unknown e-mail address.  It appears to be a person's name @gmail.com.  My daughter searched her contacts on the phone, and in her e-mail account and found no record of this e-mail address.
So the question is this.  How can a completely unknown e-mail address be prepopulated in Find My iPhone on a brand new, never used iPhone 5C???
Lacking a clear explaination causes me to wonder about the integrity of what is actually running on her iPhone.  Could the security of her phone be compromised?

I seriously doubt that your brand new phone was used previously.
I bought a brand new iPhone 5s from Verizon last September (arrived factory sealed) and no problems using it.  Today, I needed to recover a photo I accidently deleted from the Camera Roll.  So I did a total reset... erased everything and tried to restore from my last iCloud backup.
During the procedure, I was asked to login to the Apple Store and a unknown email address was already filled out.  There was no way to over-ride it... skip this step was my only option.  So I skipped it and another unknown email address appeared.  Then I skipped it again and my email address appeared.  I logged in and then another unknown email addresses appeared with a password box.  I skipped this step and another final one appeared.  After skipping this one too... it finally proceeded to restore from my last iCloud backup.
After saving my lost photo from the Camera Roll, I plugged into iTunes and restored again from the newer backup saved in my computer.  This restore did not require any Apple Store authentications so there was no problems...
HOWEVER, after restoration, the next time my phone asked me to login to the Apple Store, it was prepopulated with one of those bogus email addresses from before!  This time I simply deleted it and entered my login info... everything seems fine now.
Based on how mine went down... I am fairly certain this problem has nothing to do with the user or the phone.  It sure seems like something is very wrong within Apple's Cloud servers and how it authenticates the restore.
My latest issue is that the phone is correctly reporting my last iCloud backup from last night, but iTunes is telling me the phone has "never been backed up to iCloud."  This is crazy...  I'll be visiting the Apple Store soon to try and find out more.

  • Is something wrong with the Find My iPhone app itself???

Find my iPhone used to locate my iPhone 4s and my new iPad with no issues.  Now it can still locate my iPhone, could not locate my iPad and now not even showing as a device and says can't locate my iMac.  All in the same house!  All devices are setup correctly.  Tech support is having me re-download the latest OS, but I am not betting it is going to work.
Beginning to wonder if something is wrong with the app itself and nothing being said to customers.  Tech support guy did say icloud has been undergoing maintenance all week and was down for 4 hours this morning.  Hmmmm.........
I could see if it was the device it my problem was confined to one device.  Just setup my iMac and can't locate it.

Would consider it except everything was fine a few weeks ago.  Have made no hardware changes.  Tech thinks problem is due to major maintenance going on right now with iCloud, and the fact that it is affecting two separate devices.

  • Very strange Issue, and cannot find a reasonable solution or Tech Support help / Will PAY for HELP !!

So, without going into great details that cannot reasonably be explained, the scenario goes a little like this:
When editing a PDF, and with nothing else open on the computer, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI tends to "hang up" and become unresponsive. The only plausible solution is to force command and restart Acrobat in hopes it will open correctly the next time. Sometimes this works, other times - nope .. Does not resolve the problem. So - can anyone recommend a solution? I have contacted help and they had to to delete a Adobe Preference file, and this seemed to work while I still had them on live chat. Once offline, it happened again.
Here is the really weird thing, I thought that I fixed the issue (as I am doing this for my boss on his Macbook Pro) and was able to quickly edit a PDF .. but when I handed the computer over to him - literally in only 2 minutes - he proceeded to edit the same document and was not able to. He got the never ending rotating circle of death
So - that is problem #1
Problem #2 is with the inability my boss has to use CC offline. I have personally reconnected to our CC account and verified all settings, and when I perform my tests at the office, everything seems fine and all programs work as should. However, he is now on business travel and says the "Trial Expired" keeps popping up. What is going on? This is literally frustrating him and me with what little knowledge I can assist with resolving the trial expired issue. How many days can you be offline with CC? Tech support says up to 99 days .. Clearly 4 days is ridiculous and I am not able to duplicate the scenario when I have his computer but what would it work for me and not him?
I just need to resolve this whole Adobe Acrobat issue as to finally get it resolved and fixed once and for all.
BTW, called in outside computer help from a local company - and the computer guy was working to get it fixed, but it seems even with live chat or phone support - it has now been escalated to Tech Support 2 .. This make any sense or logic? I believe he has uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat and now it is only creating more issues. I think he tried to install a trial version and activate the subscription but it failed.
Any HELP? We are desperate and I'll even pay via PayPal to get a resolution to this problem if any recommendation leads to a solid solution. Guaranteed !!

Actually I also noticed that usual heat with wifi and game play.. However this was extreme heat. I wasn't able to hold it for long time and had to drop it.
So can that bulge can be ignored and should I start using it back again. Though that bulge appeared after that heating issue.
Beside the hardware, safety would be my bigger concern. Perhaps because I have heard few incidents with mobile phones where battery generated heat and caused some defect in bodies and continued use resulted in a blast in battery causing physical harm.
So if its advised to try it by charging 100% and monitoring backup time or any other advise.

  • "Find my iPhone does not recognize New iPhone 5

I use my AppleID to "Find my iPhone" successfully on iPhone 4, iPhone4S, iPad, iMac. All show up. New iPhone5 iOS 6.0.2 uses same AppleID in the General iCloud settings, Contacts, email, photostream, safari bookmarks, reminders, notes, are all synced fine. I can even see how much storage is available in my iCloud account on the new iPhone5.  The Problem is that "Find my iPhone" does not recognize the new iPhone 5. Yes location services is turned on. The iPhone5 can find its location in the map app, can find all other devices in "Find my iPhone" just not itself in "Find my iPhone" I tried a hard reset.
    ANY IDEAS?

How about when the passcode is correct but not recognized?
I was prompted to enter a password to unlock the device when I downloaded IOS 7 several months ago.
Entered the password every single day for months, never a problem.
Yesterday I attempted to download the most recent IOS version and I was asked for a passcode before I could do that (my phone was unlocked). Online I found out the passcode is the unlocking password. It did not work and I was unable to use the phone for several minutes after 5 attempts. I just stored the phone and when home I charged it overnight.
This morning I unlocked the phone as usual  and used it without a problem for emails, phone calls. etc.. Now, after not having used it for a while, I am asked for the passcode to unlock it as usual, and although I am sure I entered the right code, it is not recognized. I am unable to unlock my phone, although I have done it for months.
This is not a case of forgotten passcode! And I see it has happened to many others that use 4s and 5s iphones.
i could attempt the iTune connection fix, but it troubles me that all solutions are presented for forgotten pascodes, and in many cases actually the passcodes are not recognized. Which means, it will keep happening unless Apple offers a solution.

  • TS1702 Find My iPhone asks for an AppleID that doesn't exist

I downloaded the Find My iPhone app, and installed it.  All went well with no problems.
When I launch the app, it wants to register with iTunes.   This makes sense, so I start the process.   I enter my AppleID, which is NOT an email address.  (There is a valid email address associated with the AppleID; I receive email updates and junk mail from Apple very well).
This is the problem - the app insists that I enter an AppleID that is an email address.   This does not exist for me, and hasn't since I have had my account, which is now many years ago - not sure how many, but I have had 3 iPhones, 2 iPods, and an Apple TV with this account, so has to be more than 8 years.  Find my iPhone insists that the email must be entered.  But if I try to use the email that's associated with my account, that doesn't work either - no association to a valid password, I am assuming.
The app can't seem to adapt to the paradigm that an AppleID doesn't have to be an email.   I don't want to change my account name - it is used too many places to be changed easily.
Which brings us to the next problem.  I am assuming that this forum is a user forum, based on the "apple Support Community" header.  How does one enter a software bug to get this fixed????
I hope htis goes to the right community - there is no iPhone App community.  Please move it if needed.

    Chris -
Thanks for your reply.  In my original post, I did make the assumption that this was not an Apple support group.  I even have asked how to get in touch with Apple support, and where I could find information on when the changes were made and why, and was told not to bother.
The ehing that bothers me is that changing my id effects many places where this is used.  How can I be sure I have them all, and what kind of implications does this have?  I think the short answer here is "Your guess is as good as mine."   Do you have any idea?   That probably fits the definition of a silly question, since you and all of the others here have no idea which apps I have, where dependencies are, and what the impacts would be if I missed one.
My goal here would be to either have Apple explain to me why this was a required change, or at least provide assistance with doing the changes, instead of just pointing me to a web page where I can make the changes myself, and then see what kind of fallout insues.  In many cases with other vendors I have been able to at least submit "bug reports" and get a response - perhaps not to my liking, but at least a considered response.
Many forums such as these have company employees that track what is going on on user forums such as these. Is that the case here?
Again, I want to thank you for your response.  Any help that can be provided is appreciated.
    Jerry

  • Strange device in list in Find my iphone app

I have just found strange device in list in Find my iphone app, how can this happen? Whom can I contact to check this?

    Hi Bucknamc,
I would recommend doing one of two things:
    1) As Gail suggested, go to Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone, and turn it on. If you are going to do this, you should also go to Settings > General > Restrictions on your child's phone, and select "Don't allow changes to accounts." This will ensure your child does not enable other iCloud functions, which would cause your data to appear on each other's devices.
    2) This is a better solution, in my opinion, since it does not involve sharing an Apple ID. If your child has their own Apple ID (you can create one at http://appleid.apple.com), you can download the Find my Friends app and add them on there. There is also a setting in the Restrictions menu to prevent Find my Friends from being turned off. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-friends/id466122094?mt=8

  • Just updated iPhone iOS and it is asking for the wrong AppleID. How do I change it if I can't get into the iPhone?

I just updated the iPhone iOS. I get the Hello Screen. It asks me to choose a WiFi. Then it takes me to a login but it has the WRONG AppleID listed. I changed the AppleID months ago. I do not have the password for the old ID, and I have no access to that email account to reset it. What the heck do I do? I can't get past this step.

UPDATE: Problem solved! Just got off the phone with Apple support. It only took all of about 10 minutes tops to fix, which was great. I think it was relatively painless because I never changed my password. Even when I changed email addresses/Apple IDs, my password never changed. So if there was an old password that you no longer remembered associated with the old Apple ID, I imagine that could be trickier.
    These were the steps:
Settings --> Messages --> Send & Recieve --> tap old Apple ID --> Sign Out
Settings --> Facetime --> Send & Recieve --> tap old Apple ID --> Sign Out
Settings --> Messages --> Send & Recieve --> log-in with current Apple ID
Settings --> Facetime --> Send & Recieve --> log-in with current Apple ID
Settings --> iTunes & App Store --> he had me verify that it was showing my current Apple ID, which it was, so we didn't need to mess with anything there
Settings --> iCloud --> it was still showing the old Apple ID and wouldn't let me change it (it was grayed out), so he had me scroll down and Delete Account. This is where I think I needed to enter my password, but fortunately it was the same as always, so no problem there.
-- Select "Keep data on my iPhone" or something like that
    Then:
Settings --> iCloud --> log-in with your current Apple ID/iCloud account.
-- Select "Merge" so it syncs everything up.
    All done!
Good luck to anyone else who has this very annoying little issue! Hope it's as relatively painless to fix as it was for me.

  • Very strange wifi happenings with my iPhone 5

    Here's what's up:
I have an iPhone 5 and it is updated to the latest iOS release.  The WiFi connection does something very strange.
There are two saved networks in the phone.  One is a hidden wifi network from work (a public school) that also uses an auto proxy (a URL address).  The other is my home wifi.  I have Verizon Fios.
When only my home network is saved, the wifi at home works perfectly. However, when both networks are saved, the home wifi pretty much doesn't work.  It seems to constantly disconnect and connect with the network; web pages do not load, etc.   At work, with both networks saved in the phone, it works perfectly.
For the life of me I cannot figure out what is wrong.  Now, to make matters even more mysterious, I have an iPad2 with the exact same network settings and with both networks saved in that, it works perfectly no matter where I go- home or work.
Please, does anyone have any ideas as to what is messed up?

wrong remove information macbookpro from iphon finder , what can i do?

I advise to reply to the one you want to reply to.
You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
    I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

Try signing out, then back in on your phone: Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in.  If that doesn't work, reset your password here: https://iforgot.apple.com.

  • My new iPad has the wrong iCloud account (restored an old backup from previous iPad). It's pointing to an account that no longer exists and now I can't delete it because I can't log into it. Find my iPhone wants me to log in before deleting the account.

I have an old iPad2, and received a new iPad Air. When I set up the iPad Air, I started as a backup from the iPad2, instead of treating it as a new iPad setup. It also asked if I wanted to set up Find My iPhone and I said yes. Problem is that I also (previously) changed the primary email address on my iCloud account, but never changed the iCloud setup on my iPad. So now the iPad Air has iCloud pointing to the email address as the account name. I want to just delete this account and enter the new email, but Find My iPhone won't let me - it asks for my password first. Problem is, it won't accept the correct password because the primary email has changed.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

So you are saying that you followed all of the steps in the support document for problems with connection, including removing and reinstalling iTunes? You do not say what you have tried, so it is hard to make recommendations. If this is the case, then you have tried resolving driver issues? What if you go to Device Manager and look for the iPhone. You should be able to click on it and see about drivers. You can update/reinstall the device driver.
