Very Unstable/crashing etc.

Hello everyone. Im new to this forum and am coming to you with a problem with my friends pc. Im very much interested in this because i amd building a system based around the neo platnium heres what his problem is.
CPU = FX55
Mobo = MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Bios 1.30, latest one.
Mem = 2 gig OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2
HD = 2 Raptor 74GB, installed Raid 0, then installed without raid.
OS = XP Home service pack two.
VID CARD= 6800 gt
It happened again as soon as i exit from UT the system crashes. It seems to be happening more often now. Once i am in the game i don't want to exit cause i know it will reboot. If this was the only problem i could more then likely live with it. But since there are other problems i can't. Now when i first installed with the raid 0 setup, i had many more problems had the service pack two add on, god i can't remember what it is called now but the one that will shut down programs i think it can be a virus. It wouldn't tell me what program it shut down but it shut down quite a bit. I know at that time i had no virus on the computer so that was not the cause. With XP installed on a single drive (no raid setup) i don't get that error message anymore, so the system is a bit more stable, but it still crashes for no reason (UT exit). I don't think it has to do with the UT install. The reason being that it did this on the previous install of XP. Before the second install i reformated the drive and again the same problem.

It is in fact my system that my friend Irish is talking about. The power supply that I am using is the OCZ powerstream 470 watt model. Not only does the system reboot after I exit from UT but it will also reboot after I run some benchmarks on UT. Once the benchmark ends the system reboots. Now I don’t think it is a UT problem because I have run these same benchmarks on other systems that I have had and have never had this problem. The benchmarks I am talking about are just games that have been saved and rerun. If I run these benchmarks with 4x AA and 8x AF the system reboots every time. If I run them without AA or AF then it reboots about 50 percent of the time. I have half life 2 installed and I have no problems with that game running. I did try lowering the speed of my memory from 400 mhz to 333 mhz in the hopes that this would work. When I ran the benchmarks again UT froze. I also tried changing the memory timings to no avail.
I have had this computer for about a week now. I have installed a fresh copy of windows twice now (service pack 2), the first time with raid 0 setup and now without raid. I have changed out the video card, removed the SB audigy 2ZS card again to no avail. I also turned off AGP fast write in bios. No matter what I try this problem still persists.
One other thing I remember was when I installed Office 2k3 and started to perform the auto update feature the system rebooted when Microsoft tried to download their active x component for the auto update feature. This only happened once.
I am at my wits end with this problem; any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • CS3 (PC) is very unstable, crashes constantly

I'm having some maddening problems with CS3 on my work PC. Some days, the program is stable, opens files just fine, and acts like it should. But, some days, it takes 5 or 6 tries just to get Id to run; it crashes while starting up, and I get an error about a "serious error being detected." And sometimes, ID just wont open a file, no matter what I do. It give either an Error 3 or Error 5, and just wont open the file.
I've tried re-installing the software several times, tried closing every other open program, tried turning down the quality settings, but I can't seem to get Id to run consistently.
This is the latest version, with all of the updates installed. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? I need to get this resolved, since I have work to get done. Thanks!

No, no fonts manager, but there are a lot of fonts installed. • My iPad 1 is now very unstable. Apps crash consistently, Mac Numbers/Pages etc incompatible with IOS 5.1 etc. There seems to be no backwards compatibility to iPad 1. Am I just supposed to throw it away? I have restored the iPOad and it has ample storage .

My iPad 1 is very unstable. Many Apps simply crash after opening. There is ample storage available.I have restored the iPad twice now and still it is unstable.
Is this a lack of backwards compatibility because no-one writes apps for IOS 51.1. and the original iPad anymore? not even Apple, as the documents and sheets I create on my Mac are incompatible with my iPad now.
My naievete tells me that this is simply Apple expecting us to upgrade to later levels of hardware. If so, very disappointing for an Apple fan. Seems your App developer approvals (even your own apps) do no require compatibility with anything but IOS 6 or later.

There are various things to make your iPad more stable. You can try deleting all apps from the multitasking bar; do a reset ie hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears; Settings > General > Reset all Settings.
If you had the previous version of iPages (version 09) on your Mac before upgrading to Pages 5.2, your Mac should still have that version in Applications, which is still compatible with your version of Pages on your iPad.
If you don't have that version, you can 'Export to Pages 09' which is still compatible with iOS 5.1.1.

  • Computer randomly shuts down/Very unstable since upgrade to yosemite

Since upgrading to yosemite my computer has become very unstable.
For anyone that can help with what may be causing this issue I would really
appreciate it. As for "Adobe" being a possible cause, how can I determine
which Adobe program and related files are the culprit?
Thank you very much to anyone who offer's their support and help.

A number of problems exist including the likelihood of system corruption as a result of using CleanMyMac.
It is not reasonable to expect a Mac to operate normally after using CleanMyMac. Like many ill-conceived "cleaning" utilities, it is capable of corrupting a Mac to the point that erasing it completely is the only practicable means of recovery. CleanMyMac is not the only example; it is merely popular due to marketing strategies that are as effective as they are intrusive.
There is no practicable way to reverse the effects of having used CleanMyMac2 other than to reinstall all affected files from backups or their original sources. Its developer's uninstallation instructions are ineffective despite their recent claims to the contrary. Only MacPaw, its developer, can know the reason for that, but I can think of two possibilities: either they are purposefully leaving components behind for reasons known only to them, or they simply don't know what they're doing. Neither one of those possibilities is particularly comforting for the user.
Reinstalling OS X alone will have no effect on either removing CleanMyMac or reversing the damage it is capable of inflicting upon a system.
Besides CleanMyMac2, garbage "cleaning" and "anti-virus" software exists, specifically "Avast", "Smith Micro", and "Symantec / Norton". Those products should not be installed on any Mac, because they convey no benefit and are only capable of creating or contributing to problems.
In addition, that Mac's Hosts file appears to have been modified. Fixing a modified Hosts file requires specific instructions. Apple Support Communities contributor and EtreCheck author etresoft recently added a User Tip discussing that concern, and how to correct it: Fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file
The recovery procedure that follows will obviate the need to correct all those separate problems and is likely to require the least amount of your time and interaction.
Follow the applicable recovery procedure below:
If you have a backup that you created prior to using CleanMyMac, now is the time to use it. For Time Machine, boot OS X Recovery, and at the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose Restore from Time Machine Backup. Choose a date preceding the installation of CleanMyMac.
If you do not have a backup that predates the use of CleanMyMac, create one now. To do that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
The recovery procedure will require that you erase the Mac using OS X Recovery, and then create a new user whose contents will be empty. You will then be able to use Setup Assistant to migrate your essential documents including photos, music, work products and other essential files.
When doing so, select only your previous User account and do not select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices.
Subsequent to using Setup Assistant, you will need to reinstall the essential software you may require, once again remembering to install software only from their original sources, and omitting all non-essential software.
To erase and install Yosemite read: OS X Yosemite: Erase and reinstall OS X
To migrate your essential documents read: OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device and follow the procedure under Transfer info from a Time Machine backup or other storage device.

  • TitanTV listings page NOW affects my Firefox. I'd commonly run it -multiple tabs- with no problem at all. Now-- Hanging!; flash crash,etc.. What jusT changed??

(Using WiFi and all-- library computers, etc.. I got in the habit of keeping multiple tabs open. I came to Firefox because it handled that usage much, much better than any version of IE. Running the multiple tabs of the future television listings made sense and Was very convenient.. Was. Now it seems -after eliminating other possibilities* that the TitanTV page is the cause of my Firefox Hanging.. (when open at all It slows even Other pages' scrolling..?! ) So yeah-- 'Hanging,' unresponsive page, flash/shockwave -type crashes etc. ,etc. Obviously..I don't Have to use the page.. or run it on this browser but What ALL Of A Sudden is causing this to occur?? Is it the ad content on there somehow? I'd love to find out at this point... and I do prefer this to the other browsers. [*And did follow the posted usual troubleshoots as well as uninstall/re-install on both the Firefox and antivirus (Avast), clearing the cache memory...] I'd love it if I could solve this new mystery here.... Thanks! )

    Tom, <br />
I am glad it is working again after following Moses's advice.
You say give us volunteers better ammunition, would help with troubleshooting. Well one thing you could have done along those lines was to follow the prompts to include full troubleshooting information in your question.
You have marked the thread solved and so it appears running in safe mode with plugins disabled solved the issue for you. That is commonly seen in searches as a troubleshooting step because it is useful. Firefox is highly customisable something people like, but the downside is all the various addons do not always work well in every situation and combination.
The action was only intended as a troubleshooting step, but you may well have more than one single issue here and may need further help sorting that out. I appreciate you are frustrated & not swearing '''at''' ''Moses'' but you are probably more likely to find help if you tone down the language.
I can not be sure yet but probably most of you problems are not directly related to the upgrade of Firefox from Fx28 to Fx29.

  • New Mac Book: very unstable on several apps???

    Hi all,
I just bought my gf a brand new macbook, so she could change from a crappy toshiba with windows to osx.
After a few weeks of running it, I have come to the conclusion that it is not working well at all!
To start with, she works on large word files. I have installed both office for mac 2004 and the new 2008,. but both show very poor performance, and keep on crashing to desktop when using advanced functions. (how hard can word really be on a processor???)
Then, Safari is also very unstable. When using about 5 tabs or more, it usually crashes as well, or starts hanging for ever. Also, when opening pdf files in safari, with the adobe plug-inn, it usually also hangs safari, very annoying!
but then it came to me last night: All these problems must be leopard related.
I run a G5 Quad myself, and upgraded to leopard, only to downgrade it the next day to tiger, since most of my apps were very unstable on leopard.
So my question is, do you guys think my assessment is correct, and that the most likely solution to the problems I am having is a downgrade to tiger?
I'm hoping to get some oppinions on this.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Cheers,

Just to build on what hyphen has said:
Don't use earlier OS than came with the computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25784
Additionally, read about About "Downgrade" installations
+"You should not reinstall an earlier version of the same software over a later version. These "downgrade" installs may seem to work, but Apple does not test nor recommend downgrade installations in most cases. Some installers prevent downgrade installations. If you need to reinstall an earlier version of Mac OS X, erase your disk first or choose the erase option in the Mac OS X Installer. Be sure to reinstall any software updates after reinstalling the operating system."+

  • XP SP3 and Vista SP1 very unstable

    Hello,
I have a 24" Mid-2007 iMac, with 4GB of ram. I'm trying to setup Boot Camp with either XP or Vista so I can run some CAD software (Solidworks) for a class I'm taking.
I installed XP SP3 using media that had SP3 pre-applied, and installed the Boot Camp drivers that came with my computer, then downloaded the Boot Camp 2.1 update. However, applications frequently crash - windows update fails randomly, the solidworks installer crashed, internet explorer crashes, etc.
I then decided to try out Vista - formatted the partition, started from scratch, same deal. Ran the Boot Camp driver DVD, applied the Vista Boot Camp 2.1 update, then the crashed begin. Windows Update failed about halfway through the updates, internet explorer crashes, didn't even bother installed Solidworks.
What is going on? I have absolutely no problems in OS X, and I've never encountered anything like this in XP or Vista before on other computers. Jokes aside, a fresh install typically works for a while. It makes me think its a hardware issue - but what hardware failure would only manifest itself in windows?

    Pewp wrote:
You are hilarious, I haven't even insulted anyone here, nor did I get personal.
Your arrogant approach in your very first post was indeed personal - and insulting in it's tone. Remember my cyber friend, we have no emotions behind the words we're posting here - and we all should keep in mind that communication is 90% NON VERBAL - the 90% filtered out via black letters on a white page...
Just my 2 cents on emails, forums, and the like.
I'm pretty unbiased in terms of the OS argument.
OK, I'll take that at fave value, however your words that follow (from an earlier post of yours) read as pretty biased, IMHO:
Would you prefer it if Microsoft were to call these service packs XP 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, etc and charge people for a new OS or an upgrade? Also, don't say Apple has never provided security updates for OS X or any of it's software. I just said, before you go bashing things (like you were), perhaps you should get a bit more informed about what you are bashing. You are the one that got all defensive about it.
That was quite a defensive statement from you. If someone "bashing" MS's decision to cap a limit on RAM usage upsets you, DON'T DEFEND MS by calling me defensive - contradiction isn't pretty.
I did offer up some advice in that you should give Vista 64-bit a try because it is not the evil OS that most make it out to, especially post SP1. So, due to that I viewed you as being misinformed.
Fairly judgmental of me "personally" since you do not know of my experience with Vista. I do know of my experience with Vista and wouldn't want to deal with it on a regular basis - or infrequent basis for that matter. Again, if my opinion threatens yours somehow, don't "defend" it. Live and let live - my choice, my experience - you're not walking in my shoes so don't tell me to/expect that "I should like Vista" as you do.
I guess what I don't get is how the lack of memory support in 32-bit XP would be a common frustration. People should know this fact and should prepare for it if they want to get the use out of all their memory.
A valid point. For the sake of clarity I did research it as best as I could under the circumstances and within the time which I had available. To think otherwise as you suggest is - well, an assumption - and an inflammatory one at that.
As far as wasting RAM: I specifically mentioned only wanting more RAM for SOlidWorks in the XP enviro... What I dind't mention is that I'm a heavy Photoshop user, and often have all sorts of CS4 apps open concurrently. So my RAM isn't wasted, it's just not being fully exploited in my humble PC experiment. Thank you for caring so about it.
If you say issues with Windows just working in general with boot camp then perhaps you shouldn't point the finger at windows and maybe boot camp?
Sir, re-read my previous posts, please. You'll discover that I never complained about Windows' functionality or it's "working in general with BootCamp". My specific gripe, rant, bloviation was entirely focused on Microsoft's decision (obviously a business-driven decision) to limit RAM usage IN WHATEVER hardware - to 4GBs. I'm merely experiencing it personally in BootCamp, although I've hit that frustrating limit when I tech'ed 130+ PCs for nearly two years...
Want to kiss and make up now?
Sorry, you're not my type But I will peacefully co-exist with you in a cyber space.

  • Safari very unstable

Since I have done the 3.0 update, Safari on my iPod Touch 1st generation has become very unstable (it crashes more than 2 times in 1 minute) so I wanted to know if some other people had also this problem and how to resolve it...

It is not a Wifi or what else problem it is a application problem (Safari lag THEN crashes after) and yes I restored from a backup and it is not a network problem because before i update my iTouch, I did nort gad this problem....
And I just wanted to know if I backup as new iPod, will I loose all my songs from my iTuneslibrary and else or will I keep them and then I just have to synchronise my iPod and get my songs and apps and else back?

  • Gvim very unstable

    Hi all,
My GVim (installed from the Arch repos) has recently become very unstable, easily segfaulting every couple of minutes.
I do use a fairly large number of plugins (see below) and I could try disactivating them one at a time to see if one of them is the culprit but I'd rather not go though that route, so has anyone had this kind of problem before?
    Thanks in advance.

    Bundle 'YankRing.vim

Actually vim crashes in the same fashion...  I'm using emacs with evil mode right now as a backup but I'm far from having reached my previous level of customization, and that sucks :-)
My computer works fine other than that, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
On the other hand, I noticed that when this instability started, I would get "deadly signal segv caught" printed to my terminal after the crash, but now sometimes I don't even get that line anymore.

  • LR2 stalls, hangs, crashes, etc.

I've been using the LR2 trial rather intensely over the past couple of days. I was hoping to avoid upgrading, but after looking at the Adobe Camera Standard profiles, the output sharpening, the gradient filters, etc. it won me over. I haven't actually bought it quite yet though, and I'm starting to second guess myself due to a whole host of random issues it seems to be struggling with (coming from a long-time LR1 user).
    - Unexplained slowness sometimes in generating web photo galleries. It's generating a gallery as I write this in fact, and I just watched it spend ten seconds on writing a single HTML file. It spent about the same amount of time writing a CSS file. It hasn't even started on exporting images, and it's been running for over five minutes now. The web gallery preview area clears and refreshes every so often. I have no idea why, and that's obviously not normal behavior. At this rate, it's going to end up taking 15+ minutes to generate a gallery with thirty images in it - all from low-res old digital camera JPEG files so it's not even converting from RAW or anything like that.
    - Sometimes the web gallery generation will appear to not do anything at all for quite some time. i.e. I press the Export button, enter the folder name, hit Save, and... nothing seems to happen. If I look in the output folder area, I'll see that it has actually created the new folder and a 'content' subfolder but done nothing else. There's no discernible activity, and I can poke around in other parts of LR just fine. If I'm patient, it may actually start doing something in a couple of minutes. Or it may not, and I'll end up restarting LR instead. Who knows.
    - Painfully slow importing of JPEGs. I had about 150 old JPEGs from a three megapixel digital camera to import. It took over ten minutes to import half of them, and at that point LR froze entirely. I had to kill the LR process manually, restart the program, and import the rest... which took another ten minutes. Though it did at least finish that batch.
    - Other hangs. I did a mass application of the new Adobe Camera Standard profile to a bunch of RAW photos, and wanted to refresh their preview images. So I left it doing this overnight. Unfortunately it hung somewhere along the way, so it only got about 15% of them done. So I restarted it that morning to do the same thing... and came home from work to discover that it had hung again. *sigh* I have no idea how many attempts it would actually take to get all the preview images updated.
    - I've also had some issues where I'd start something running within LR, and the entire application would start flashing out of existence and then back periodically. This might happen a half dozen times, before I get sufficiently annoyed and minimize the application hoping that it might actually continue its work.
Now it doesn't always do these things. Since I started writing this, I have in fact managed to generate a couple more web galleries which were created very quickly with no problems. I have no idea why it was an issue for the other galleries. What it means unfortunately is that I have no faith in LR2 for anything. Each time I generate a web gallery, I'm going to be crossing my fingers hoping it behaves itself. Similarly for just about any major operation, or even a simple import. That's no way to work.

Jeff, thanks for your comment that deleting the preference file is "troubleshooting 101" (
Jeff Schewe, "LR2 stalls, hangs, crashes, etc." #3, 7 Aug 2008 1:33 pm)
    My question is this:
Given the words "preference" and "file" but with no knowledge of the actual file, how do I find it?
    I'm not asking
    i where
    it is, I'm asking
    i how
I would find it if I didn't know.
    I tried:
    Using LR help
Going to LiveDocs (a link on the LR help page)
    typing "ls -R | grep -i pref"
    (which gave me AgPrefUtils.lua, AgPreferencesWin.lua,
    LrPrefs.lua, PrefsWindow.lua from within
    /Applications/Lightroom.app)
    searching these fora
posting a question in these fora and waiting 48 hours
googling "adobe lightroom preference file", which took
me to an Adobe knowledgebase article that finally told
me the file adobe.com.Lightroom.plist would be in
    ~/Library/Preferences on Mac OSX.
Given that I've seen it referenced many times, I'm surprised that in my hour of need it was so difficult to locate. I politely suggest that there is at least a case for putting a link to the knowledgebase article in the help files.
I actually think Adobe need to acknowledge that not everyone is online all the time, and perhaps include a comment along the lines of the "troubleshooting 101"
i in the LR help files!

  • N95 is very unstable

    Hey
My T-Mobile N95 has become very unstable, and is becoming more and more unstable. It crashes in the following situations:
    -Random crashes
-When running java applications it crashes randomly
-When booting up it goes to the nokia logo and quite often cuts to a black screen and goes back to the nokia logo. This can happen 4 or 5 times in a row before finally booting into the OS. This happens especially if its just crashed and restarted
    -When updating the phone
I've done both soft and hard resets and teh issues continue. It does seem to be degrading in stability quite rapidly.
    Thanks fopr any pointers,
    Charlie

Did you try the proper hard reset method that requires you to hold down keys whilst booting or just the reset code? If not it's at the bottom of the post for you to try.
If a hard reset doesn't work and you are unable to update or reinstall the firmware then your only option is to take the phone to a nokia care point as it's most likely a hardware failure.
Care points/service centres and repair info:
    UK • Europe • Asia-Pacific • USA •
Canada • Middle East and Africa
Elsewhere: Click here, select your country, go to the support section, then select repair.
Hard reset (all user data will be lost):
    1. Switch off the phone.
    2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
    3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
    4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers!

  • Raid mode very slow/ crashing after installing driver (Z68A-GD65 (G3))

I recently purchased a Z68A-GD65 (G3) motherboard, i5-2500K, 8 gb ram, and a Crucial 64GB 4m SSD drive. The intention was to use the SSD drive for Intel Smart Response Tech.
Instructions tell me to place the SATA ports in RAID mode, which I did. During installation of Windows 7 (64-bit), I provided the "F6" raid drivers which installed. After that point, my hard drive (a WD 250GB SATAII drive) begins to perform incredibly slow. Once Windows 7 installs, which takes way longer than it should, Windows has problems booting and won't work properly.
I tried installing Windows 7 without the "F6" raid drive on install and that worked fine. Everything seemed to be working great. I then installed the Intel Rapid Storage Tech software and rebooted. Now my system is acting up again. It takes far longer to boot, it shuts down as soon as it boots, and it has even blue screened on boot. It is very unstable.
My SSD is unplugged during all of this. I'm just trying to get Windows 7 to run properly on my one mechanical drive in raid mode.
Do I have a bad motherboard? Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I'm not using the Marvell ports. The hard drive works fine in IDE/ACHI modes... I've been using it for years.
    Thanks

So it turned out that the issue was the hard drive itself. It had been running flawlessly for years as my system drive. However, the Intel iastor driver exposed a hidden issue with the drive.
I decided to check the Windows system event log for any clues. In there I saw errors with event id 9 on iastor. They were lined up with the times of the hangs and blue screens. Solutions I found online for this issue did not help. Luckily I have two hard drives in my system, although they are both the same model. I moved my data around and clean installed Windows on the other drive instead. The hangs and blue screens are no longer occurring.

  • Iphone 4 running 4.3.5 wifi very unstable/will not connect to network

Hi all iPhone users. Im new to this so please bear with me. I have an iPhone 4 (had for about 1 month or so). I have recently updated to the new 4.3.5 software. Sice then, my wifi seems to be very very unstable. Im only about 10ft from my router and when I go to connect, I get an error saying 'unable to join network'. I previously had an iphone 3gs and that connected fine further away.
When my iphone 4 does connect, the connection lasts about 10-15 secs and then it will not load any web pages although it shows its connected. I have tried all methods on previous threads but nothing seems to work. Ive also tried retting my router and changing the wifi channel to make the signal stronger but nothing seems to work.
Ive seem some threads where people have 'put them in the freezer' but im not willing to do that as the phone is only a month old. Ive tried the network reset, the hard reset, re-installing itunes and trying the update again but it nothing seems to work.
Any help or advise would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi folks,
    SOLVED
iPhone 4 wasn't having any joy (and neither was my new 4s).
Tried turning OFF the security on the router, connecting the iPhones (yep, they connected OK) then turning on the security (WPA2-PSK [AES]) and both iPhones still connected.
So, it looks like this is the way to solve a non-connecting iPhone 4/4s with a Netgear WiFi router.
Hope this helps others with the same problem.
    Regards
    RB

  • Has anyone noticed that Messages (iChat) is very unstable on OS 10.8.3?

I have a 27 inch iMac i5 with 4 GB of RAM. Since upgrading to OS 10.8.3, Messages (iChat) has become very unstable, freezing at least once or twice a day. This behavior is mainly associated with my sending iMessages to iPhone users. The problem is solved by force quitting and re-starting the app. The activity monitor shows the app to be consuming several hundred megabytes of memory when this happens, and the computer slows down considerably, but remains responsive. No other apps have become unstable.
My internet searches are too poorly worded to be of use--searching for "messages" or "ichat" does not yield any results or even any discussion of this kind of unstability. Any thoughts?

If you reset all settings then your passwords for Wi-Fi will have been cleared. You will need to enter them again for each Wi-Fi network you connect to.
