Very unusual behaviour of Satellite L750D-14R

One of my kids has a Satellite L750D-14R laptop and a couple of weeks ago were complaining that the laptop was running slowly. It *was* running slowly - it took 10 to 15 actual minutes just to load minecraft, and then the game was unplayable because it was so slow. It already had 6gb of RAM. To try to fix it, I reinstalled Windows 8 (when we purchased it, it came with windows 7, and I upgraded it to Windows 8.1), did all the system updates, then did the windows 8.1 update.
It seemed to be ok at this point, faster. But it started to blue-screen regularly, like every time it was used. I tried another reinstall, this time installing Windows 8.1 directly. I did all the system updates etc, and it started to blue screen again. By this time I'd already spent an inordinate amount of time trying to fix it. This time I went for the full-on nuclear option and completely formatted the drive including removing all the partitions. There were 3 partitions, a very small recovery partition, and the system and data partitions. I figured I wouldn't need recovery - if there were problems I could format and reinstall again. So I blew away all of the partitions and consolidated them into a single partition on the drive.
Now the laptop is completely unusable. With the original Toshiba HDD (freshly formatted) installed the laptop just boots directly to a blue screen that says:
"Recovery, your PC needs to be repaired. The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: \WINDOWS\System32\winload.exe
Error code: 0xc000000f
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have the installation media contact your system administrator of manufacturer.
Press enter to try again
Press F8 for start up settings"
Pressing enter or F8 just makes the screen flicker for less than a second, then it goes back to the same message again. It doesn't try to boot, it doesn't show the BIOS or any normal start-up messages, or the Toshiba logo or anything.
With a brand new, freshly formatted HDD, the laptop does nothing when I switch it on - completely black screen just with a flashing cursor at the top left of the screen. It doesn't boot to BIOS, there are no system messages or logos, I can't type at the cursor, it just sits there blinking indefinitely.
It's like there was something on the 'recovery' partition that stops users from upgrading the HDD or something - any drive that doesn't have this 'special' recovery partition won't work, thus ensuring that consumers buy a new laptop when it grinds to a halt instead of upgrading. This may seem cynical, but I've seen similar hardware anti-upgrade solutions in the past - Compaq PCs used to have special plastic notches molded onto optical drives so that the drives could only be used in Compaq chassis.
Just to put this into context, I'm not a certified or qualified computer scientist or anything, *but* I was a desktop support engineer for a very large company for a long time a few years ago. I've built, repaired and upgraded hundreds of computers over a period of around 20 years, and in all that time, I've never seen a problem like this. What I mean is, I'm not a total computer novice! Usually a full format and reinstall fixes anything but broken hardware, and this doesn't feel like a broken hardware problem.
The laptop is between 1 and 2 years old. I'm pretty sure laptops should last longer than this. I don't really want to bin it yet. Is there anything I can do? Can I recreate this special anti-upgrade partition somehow?

Well, I was able to reinstall Windows 8 and 8.1 on the original Toshiba HDD, before I repartioned the drive. I've not been able to install anything on the new HDD, it doesn't give me the option to boot from disk (in order to install windows), or any other option at all.

Perfect, I didn't know this could be ordered by itself, I will try this. Although, the laptop won't let me boot from any normal CD/DVD - how will I use this recovery disc?
Thanks for the advice Joe

  • Cannot update AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics on Satellite L750D-14R

    Toshiba Satellite L750D-14R
    Part Number : PSK4YE-01H00HEN
AMD Dual-Core Processor E-450 APU with AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics
I have re-installed windows 7 pro and formatted the drive upon install.
I have installed all of the necessary drivers but the graphics card will not update
whenever i install a driver the install seems to just after extraction and do nothing and i am left with the generic vga adapter in the device manager.
I have tried many things to make it work but I cannot figure it out, here are the solutions i have already tried:-
used the Toshiba detector to find the drivers i need downloaded directly form the site.
used numerous third party sites including AMD and their mobility catalyst ccc.exe, which says its not compatible with their software
I have re-installed windows (formatted main drive) and installed the drivers in a different order, as per some peoples suggestions on other forums.
I have run all of the windows updates and that didn't work
I have manually searched for the driver but windows tells me the current driver is up to date.
my Bios is fully up to date.
Cant think of any more useful pieces of information to fix the problem, can anyone help?
This is similar thread i found, but again there is no solution posted: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums//message.jspa?messageID=258331#258331

sorry i should be more clear that was just a polite way of saying I cannot do that and i have tried several different ways of getting it to work that way.
the answer lies within the unknown device on the device manager im sure. as the graphics are intregrated in the system i suspect that it isnt allowing it to update without this driver for (Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System) to be installed 1st.
I have tried downloading a few fixes for this but still no luck does anyone have any information on this, the toshiba driver list doesnt include anything and most other references on the net are for the chipset

  • My drive is screwed up...very unusual behaviour.

So I had a superdrive die in my powerbook before, where it was unable to burn, etc.
I'm having the same happen in my macbook pro now, but I'm getting more odd behaviour. When I put a blank cd in the drive (straight out of the package) it goes to iTunes and tells me it's the album "In Silico" by Pendulum which I had burned a while ago. When you click a song to play it, it just skips through them all rapidly. The cd shows audio files in finder as well, even though the cd is blank. What's going on?

first, i would uncheck the ¨automatically retrieve CD track names from internet¨ in iTunes.
    (iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Importing/).
the purpose is to avoid iTunes give a name to your blank cd.
Create a Playlist, then use right button or press control+click on that playlist and select "burn playlist to Cd" , THEN insert the CD when asked...
I hope it solves that issue

  • Satellite L750D - BIOS update 2.1 and sound problem

    Hello
I have little problem. I have been downloaded from your website BIOS 2.1 for Toshiba Satellite L750D (PSK32E).
I have been updated BIOS to 2.1 and start problem with sound. When I start game, music or something other only 2 first minutes sound plays properly but then it stops for no reason. No sound at all. I have been reinstalled op system but the problem is still there.
Sound works for 2 minutes only then is completely off. Every start application with sound plays 2 minutes and stop all quiet is. I have made a probe on my mother laptop its a twin laptop. I have been updated bios same problem 2 minutes and then no sound. My operating system is win 8 pro 64 my mother laptop is with win 7 x64 premium.
Two BIOS updated 2.1 ver on L750D and the problem is same. Please fix BIOS.

The BIOS seems to be very old. I was released nearly 1.5 years ago so to be honest I doubt its and BIOS issue.
I had the similar issue with my other notebook equipped with an Realtek sound card.
The sound appeared again after plugging and removing the headphone jack
But i could solve this installing the newest sound driver update from Realtek driver page.
But it seems that your Satellite does not support Realtek sound chip but Conexant sound chip.
Therefore the solution might not be useful for you.
However, I think you need to update the sound driver.I recommend you to google for Conexant SmartAudio HD driver and to test the newest available driver version.
In internet I could found the Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver version 8.65.9.51 for Win 7/ Win 8 / Win 8.1
Not quite sure if this is the newest version but you can test it.
In order to manually update your driver:
    1. Go to Device Manager (right click on My Computer, choose Manage and then find Device Manager in the left panel)
    2. Right click on the hardware device you wish to update and choose Update Driver Software
    3. Choose to select the location of the new driver manually and browse to the folder where you downloaded the driver

  • Satellite L750D - Window Media Player has sound but no pictures

I have a Toshiba Laptop Satellite L750D, Win 7 Home Permium. I don't know why Win Media player just has sound but no pictures. Please some one help fix this problem. I don't have a recovery dics. Where can I down load it? I would very much appeciate your help. Hien

Your issue is likely, but not necessarily a corrupted or missing codec since you haven't actually confirmed whether your problem is with just one disc or all discs nor if they ever worked on this system before.
Installing VLC is a good idea, but it's a considerate application and won't tamper or try to repair a busted codec and will more often avoids tampering or accidentally repairing any detected whether it's already working or likely broken like yours. That's one of the reasons VLc is so highly recommended such as they way it was repeatedly suggested to you.
A question to ask if your problem is being caused by a few discs, are they custom burned or commercially pressed boutique films since most mainstream DVD's use the same MPEG-2 codec for video and audio and failed video but working audio is usually a clue about a split format disc that has simpler audio streams but obscure video formats that can result in an issue just like yours.
In either case and if none of that is of interest, I can relate and suggest you keep any installed VLc's and download KLite because it is nothing but varying degrees of CODEC's including obscure ones and is fairly aggressive in detecting and seamlessly repairing corrupted codecs while offering more configuration options than most people want and more than many commercial video applications offer.
Visit http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm and choose the "Mega" or 64Bit package but 64bit systems can successfully backport the 32bit set if you feel its necessary to.
You can also potentially skip the KLite process by diagnosing your codecs with Nirsofts InstalledCodec tool, a single file executable no install / no reboot but I don't get the impression you're prepared to really do much at that level and that's fine but it might be needless effort in your case.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html
But something you definitely need to stop and wonder about is what happened to crush your codec since they don't normally suffer damage until some insidious piece of badware like your favorite iLivid and mine gets into your computer to raise holy hell forever. If that could possibly be what happened to you, the circumstances of how you managed to pick it up and anything else are things you can keep to yourself but consider it a spyware affliction and one I don't make lightly and is something I rarely suggest since it is the overused excuse at the Microsoft forums to blame everything on spyware instead of poorly written OS code.

  • Satellite L750D/L755D - intermittent flashing line on screen

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite L750D/L755D its only 8 weeks old recently there been some flasing lines on the screen happens only a few seconds then goes
Have any one have any ideals please on this matter?

To be honest I dont know what this is. If this will happen very often I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. You have new notebook with valid warranty so best solution for you is to clarify this with Toshiba.
All you can do now is to test it with external display or with clean preinstalled OS.

  • Satellite L750D-15E AMD Display driver

    Hey :)
I have the Satellite L750D-15E laptop (amd a6-3400m quad core APU with Radeon HD 6520G) with win7 64bit.
The latest update for AMD display driver for my comupter is from 2012:
    http://www.toshiba.co.il/innovation/jsp/supportMyProduct.do?LNG=29&service=IL#tab3;
There are a lot more updated drivers and there are a lot of new video games that require updated drivers.
Is there a way to get more updated drivers?
When I try to use the AMD driver auto detect (When trying to download the driver that was detected) it shows me an error that the version of my graphics adapter isn't supported.
I also updated the bios to version 2.10 to see if maybe that solves the problem but it didn't.
my Video BIOS Date is 05/10/11.
    Please help,
    Lee.

    Hi
Display driver for mobile units is pretty limited and notebook manufacturers don't offer some updates very often. Problem is that hardware performance, especially graphic card performance, must be under control and it is controlled by display driver.
With new driver graphic card will offer more performance but with more performance GPU will produce much more heat and it can be very dangerous for al mobile machines.
Cooling system for notebooks is optimized for certain hardware platform and if hardware cannot be cooled down properly result can be either overheating or hardware damage. Thats the reason why you cannot install these non supported drivers. Toshiba don't want to be responsible if you use some third part driver and later come to service with damaged graphic card.
I know it is a bit annoying and everyone of us want to have good machine with high performance but thats the problem with notebooks in general.
To be honest these L models with AMD platform are good notebooks but not some gaming machines so I don't think you can do much about that.
Of course BIOS update has nothing to do with all this.

  • Satellite L750D - no HDMI video out on external TV

I have a Satellite L750D and a SyncMaster Smart TV
I want to hook up my laptop to the TV with a HDMI cable.
When connected, my laptop discovers the TV and can create an extended desktop but the TV says no signal.
I have tested the TV with another laptop and it works fine.
I deleted the display driver and was able to get some video on the television but the colour was bad and the option to extend was disabled. On top of this I was unable to change my screen resolution.
I installed the latest drivers provided by Toshiba which is dated 09/05/2011. Same issue, no signal.
    Any suggestions on a fix?
Is there later video drivers I can download?
AMD suggest I go here for drivers.
    All help appreciated.

    Hi
I guess you installed Win 7. Right?
    > I installed the latest drivers provided by Toshiba which is dated 09/05/2011
    There is a newer display driver released at 04/13/12 [AMD display driver v8.911.6 Windows 7 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=6463&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=81347&OSI D=30&driverLanguage=42]
    Install this one.
Furthermore you should install other tools like Toshiba Value Added Package, AMD Display Tool, ATI Sound Driver as well as Conexant Sound driver and others.
Then you should be able to use FN + F5 in order to switch to the external video output

  • Satellite L750D-14E - Backslash button not working

I have just purchased two weeks ago a Toshiba Laptop, model Satellite L750D-14E running Window 7, and I cannot get the back slash key on the keyboard to work.
It produces no character at all.
The other keys all work fine and the symbol above it works fine using the shift key.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks.

Thanks again, the language setting is fine.
After further investigation, I can say that the back slash key works in Notepad!
What I am actually trying to do (and I should probably have said this in the first place!) is add a network printer (not a bluetooth printer, but a printer directly cable attached to another computer on my LAN network), which I have always identified on other XP computers using backslashes and the computer name, etc. It would seem that it is this field in Windows 7 that is not accepting a backslash.
By the way, I can see the files on my other computers okay from my new Windows 7 laptop, so I have managed to do that okay.

  • Populate List from Database (Very Strange Behaviour)

    Dear Fellows,
I have developed a from which has two lists One for Major (say) and Other for Minor (say), thesr minors are based on the value of Major.
Now I have developed this system on Windows XP Professional, Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8i (release 8.1.7).
Major list is populated from database and it shows all major values now using 'when_list_change' trigger the minor list is populated from the database based on the value of major list. Interestingly enough it is working fine without any problem.
Now I have deployed the software to Windows 2000 Professional/Server (tried on both), Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8.0.5, but strangly the lists are not working now. First list (major) is still working but the other dependent lists are not working.
Another strange thing is that it populate the second list for one particular value (only at times).
The logic is that I have used a program unit to which i am passing 'list element' and 'query' and call it for each list in the when-list-change trigge.
Now its a very strange behaviour, I don't know what to do?
Your cooperation will be highly appreciated.
    regards.

    Hi,
I have Nokia N8 (a great phone, btw) with Symbian Anna. I wanted to download the maps. But the PC Ovi Suite is just busy forever, without downloading anything (I used Performance Monitor to find out it was doing nothing for hours).
As I have unlimited data plan from my phone, I decided to try updating directly from the phone instead. It successfully downloaded the list of maps, but when I selected one of them
"No Wi-Fi network available. Please configure a WiFi access point in the phone Internet destination settings."
Why should I do that? I have a working connection on that phone (as evidenced by the successful download of the list of maps). So now, I am stuck. How can I download the maps?
Well, the suggestion is there. Use a router.

  • FOR i IN (statement) LOOP - very strange behaviour

Hello, I'm experiencing very strange behaviour in my 9i Development Environment:
If I run this select from SQL Plus a I get six month with number of days:
    select to_char(add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1),'Month-YYYY') tmp_date, add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum)-add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1) colspan from dual a connect by level <=6
But if I try to cycle through it in PL/SQL I only get the first row.
    FOR i in (
    select to_char(add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1),'Month-YYYY') tmp_date, add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum)-add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1) colspan
    from dual a
    connect by level <=6 )
    loop
    -- print something out
    end loop;
Any ideas why does this happen this way? If I use a query that does not contain CONNECT BY it works ok.

    Hi
    Just change as given below:
    FOR i in (
    select * from (select to_char(add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1),'Month-YYYY') tmp_date, add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum)-add_months(trunc(sysdate,'month'),rownum-1) colspan

    Hi,
I am trying to set up my Satellite L750D (psk36a-038008) so I can record using the sound that gets sent to the speakers and not just the input from the microphone. (whatever comes through the speakers could be recorded by whatever sound recording software I use). I was able to do this on a previous laptop (not Toshiba) but this one doesn't want to do it.
In the recording tab of the microphone, I have got the 'Show Disabled Devices' option ticked/checked but nothing else is showing apart from the conexant microphone.
The laptop is less than 1 month old, does it need new drivers already?
    Thanks

And what is the source for this sound?
Do you want to record music from internet radio or what?
As far as I know Toshiba has build-in microphone and it is designed to be used with communications applications like Skype, MSN or something similar. As far as I know when mic is ON speakers are OFF.
It works on this way to avoid microphony effect.
To be honest it is not known to me that you can force notebook to work on this way and record sound that comes from speakers.
