Very weak Right Channel output

Looks like this is a growing hardware defect on the iPod Classics.  This leaves me wondering how long Apple will ignore this before resolving the problem or do their sales level leave them unmotivated to even discuss it.
I have the 160GB model, about 15 months old.  The right channel has gone VERY weak.
I am using the standard factory headset which works fine in any other device so the headset is ruled out.
The headset jack in the iPod is clean and makes good contract with the headset and persists when connected via the base connector (see below), so the headset jack is ruled out.
I can connect the iPod to a portable docking port that connects to the iPod via the connector at the base of the headset.  The right channel is also weak when playing music out the portable dock speakers.  So, this rules out all connectors.
Next, I tried changing the Equalizer settings across all personalities (Rock, Jazz, etc) with no change in the problem.
Next, I tried doing a master reset (Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears). No joy.  Problem
Finally, the Factory Reset was tried using iTunes (which only seems to erase the hard disk and reload all my music).
None of this has worked.  Either there was a bad firmware update from Apple, which they will never admit to by policy obviously, or there is a hardware defect in the latest design of the iPod Classic.  There are far too many people posting this problem on the net for this to be an isolated case.
Has anyone found a resolution to this problem (WITHOUT armchair guessing)?
Thanks.

- If it works with other headphones the try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. Also try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack
- Next Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem.
- Reset. Nothing was lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If still problem that points to a problem with the headophone jack.

  • RMBP 15" right channel output not working properly

    Hello,
I recently purchased a Retina Macbook Pro 15" no more than 3 months ago.
Today I just noticed that whenever I connect my headphones I can hear the left channel clearly but the right channel is a lower volume and distorted.
at first I thought it was the headphones, but have tried various ones and it doesn't seem to be that.
Also, output from the internal speakers sounds fine, same level on both channels and clear
    Has anybody had this problem?
    Thanks,
    moih

Already tried zapping the PRAM, to no success...
I'll definitely bring it to a Genius bar since it also has a problem i didn't disclose here where the USB on the left hand side intermmitently connects and disconnects whenever i connect my iDevice...
    Thanks anyways

  • I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels outputing different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels putting out different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

All the Drum Kits available for GarageBand are mixed in stereo.
Logic provides the same 18 Drum Kits also as "Producer Kits", which are multi-track outputs,. Each Drum Kit Piece (Kick, Snare, HH, etc) and also room mice and overheads are routed to individual channel strips.
Here is a screenshot of one Drum Kit in Logic Pro X with individual Channels Strips. Each Channel Strip can be loaded with individual effects (compressor) and adduced with individual sends, etc.
What that means is that all the Drummers are professionally recorded and sampled with individual mics. The Stereo Drums Kits are just "stereo mix-downs" for easier handling and less CPU demand. I explain all the details about the Drummer ecosystem in my graphically enhanced manual "GarageBand X - How it Works"
    Hope that helps

  • Hookup to analog stereo system - no right channel output

I am using the 1/8" stereo to RCA adapter audio cable to hookup my Audigy 2 Platinum to a Sony amplifier/receiver to play through my Bose 30 speakers.
I get stereo seperation when I play a cassette through this same amplifier and I have tried the tape input for the soundcard, but still get no right channel, but hear the left channel in both speakers.
I hear the stereo signal fine when listening through headphones plugged into the i/o module. Something is amiss at the soundcard's # output, I think. I have tried multiple adapter cables and rca cables. I have also tried all available inputs on my amplifier and all available outputs on the soundcard and i/o module.
It seems to be the soundcard. What do you think?

The amp is only receiving the left channel which is the default mono channel. I assume the amp is not switched to play mono and is doing this automatically by default. I do not know what inches are but I assume you mean a 3.5mm connector to RCA converter. 3.5mm connectors are available in both mono and stereo, which do you have?
Are you getting any signal from the right channel from the soundcard, you can check this by unplugging the left (white) RCA cable while leaving the right plugged in and listen for sound.

  • Macbook headphone output, right channel weaker than left.....

I use my macbook connected to my stereo amplifier using a mini jack to stereo connector. I have started to notice isses though. It seems that after a couple of minets of working fine the volume of the right channel will suddenly reduce for no aparant reason. I have tested my amplifier/speakers/cables and have therefore come to the conclution that the issue is with tha macbook its self. Unpluging the cable from the headphone socket and then pluging it in again seems to resolve the issue for a couple of minets before the right channel once again loses volume...........
    Any ideas?
so far i have tried playing around with the sound settings but they are so few and far between that i can see no resolution other than to return the macbook to apple to be fixed.
    Thanks alot

If you're absolutely certain your cables, wires, speakers and everything else is 100% then yes, return it. You might try blowing a little into the headphone jack in the event you collected a bit of debris that is causing the problem.

  • Power Mac G5 Audio is outputting only the right channel

I have an audio problem with my PowerPc Audio card, I presume. It is only outputting the right channel. I have a set of computer speakers and when I go into System Preferences and move the balance slider, there is only sound coming from the right channel. Absolutely nothing from the left.
I found this problem when editing in FCP and needing to do a split track with VO on channel 1 and Nats and music on channel 2. I could see the meters showing the audio output from channel 1 but no sound coming through the Mac's left channel output.
Also, I have a DeckLink extreme card in my system and when I test the L-R channel output I get the same problem. I do not know if the decklink is somehow using the Mac audio card for help with its output. I would think that it is using its own hardware for generating the audio output from the card.
Hardware issue? Time for a Mac Genius repair? Don't know if there is any workarounds or fixes before I go that route. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Doug

No I didn't but I run my Mac's output into an analog mixer and then out to my speakers.
When outputting through channel 2 only, both speakers work, yet when I pan to channel 1 the sound drops out. As I pan from full channel 2, where both speakers are up full, you can hear the sound fade out.
Also, I got the Deck Link card to work through my mixer. The L and R channels are outputting through separate inputs in the mixer and work independently and correctly. I even changed out the mini stereo cable just in case and still no left channel out of the Mac.
Very weird! I've even repaired and defragged my system disk in case it is some sort of corrupted code. Just grasping at straws before I take it to a Mac Genius.
Thanks for writing. I appreciate any and all suggestions.

  • Right channel headset speaker audio very feable

Recently I noticed that sometimes when I boot into my Arch linux, I find the audio very much faint in the right channel of the headset. The left channel is loud and clear. I tried with another good headset. Even with that the right channel audio is very low. My laptop has two audio jacks for headsets. The behaviour is the same in both the audio jacks.
However, there are no issues with the laptop inbuilt speakers. The problem only comes with a headset. I have done 'speakertest' to make sure that it is not the issue with the media player I am using.
The problem will disappear when I restart my machine. But will suddenly come in some random day. And I will have to restart to get that fixed. Is there a way to fix it once and for all?

... any way to "unlock" the left channel?
    Head phones or external speakers.
    The "latest version"
    b does
provide sound to both left and right side through the head phones jack or via the USB port if you use USB speakers.
You are correct that Apple keeps one speaker quiet on the laptop to reduce speaker feedback to the microphone given the physical size of Mac laptops.

  • Output to home stereo - no right channel

I am trying to connect the SB Audigy2 Platinum to my two channel homestereo. I connected the 1/8 digital cable via an rca adapter, going into corresponding
L+R RCA inputs on my amplifier. When trying to calibrate the speakers I hear the right channel in bothe speakers
The same effect when I listen to my stereo headphones connected to my amplifier. When my headphones are plugged directly into the external I/O module, theheadphones sound just fine. I have checked to make sure that the 1/8"" jack is plugged into output onthe soundcard, and is in all the way. I have also switched the polarity of my L+R rca audio jacks going into theinputs on my amplifier, works the same either way. I have tried all available input pairs on my amplifierI have checked the polarity of the audio cable from my speaker outputs on myamplifier to the speakers. I have turned all DSP's off on my amplifier and am bypassing surround soundand Dolby. I am stumped. Also, shouldn't I be able to use the 1/8" digital out on the back of the I/Omodule to go to my home stereo instead of the 1/8" out on the soundcarditself?Thank you,

Hi...I am new to this whole posting thing, but have been an avid reader for awhile. I too am having difficulties with the whole iphone to stereo concept. I bought the Belkin cord from the Apple store, but still seem to be unable to get any music to come out of my stereo. So, what could I be doing wrong? I have connected cord from both the iphone and from cradle's line out jack, and then connect the other end to stereo through the headphone jack. The headphone jack is the ONLY port on the stereo that seems to fit the belkin. No input jacks to be found. Do I need to do like iTrip radio stations in the iPhone, or did I just waste money on this cord? Please help. I am so frustrated. All I want to do is enjoy my music OUT LOUD! Thanks.

  • Very Basic, need to copy right channel to the left channel.

My first time in this forum, i checked the FAQ and did a small search.
I sent a stereo mix from FCP as an 'Audio File Project' (not multitrack) to Soundtrack Pro. I want to copy the left channel to the right channel (replacing the right channel) so both channels have the same signal.
I've worked in many audio programs and it seems Soundtrack Pro just doesn't have the universal workflows as most (wavlab, audition, pro tools). When working with Stereo files I can't figure out how to isolate one channel at a time.
    Thanks for your time!
    Monty

Under the process menu you find Convert to Mono, the dialog that follows lets you choose which channel to use (or to combine them).
What's maybe confusing you is that the process creates a single file, instead of what you're expecting - a stereo file with identical information left and right.
In STP (and I'm sure in FCP as well) if you place a mono file on a track (pan it to the middle) and then export, the file it will produce will be a 2 channel mono file. So you just need to take another step to get where you want.

  • Guitar sound very weak?

    Hi
I'm turning around trying to sort out a problem with a 'real' guitar whilst recording. I've been having no problems plugging in my guitar into my Presonus Firebox, setting up a guitar sound (ex : dynamic wah), and then playing along with whatever I'm doing.
However this morning I don't seem to be able to get the guitar to work. The sound/signal is almost non existent! My microphone seems to work fine (I'm also using a firebox control to boost by 12db etc) but for some strange reason very weak levels (if any).
Can someone either give me some suggestions, or run through the set up as maybe there's something not correctly lined up.
° I'm going into my Firebox on channel 2 (tried 1 but didn't make any difference) - boosted as already mentioned.
° The channel strip is set up - input 1, output 1-2
    Help!!

problem solved, the guitar jack input somehow went down over night!

  • Input on right channel only??

New to Mac, Mainstage, but not new to recording.  I just don't know a ton about how to use this stuff.
I've got my acoustic plugged into a basic M-Audio USB interface.  Interface into the USB port on my Mac Book Air.  MainStage is set to use the Interface as Input/Output.  I play, I hear it in my speakers, it's all gravy.  EXCEPT... In stereo, only the right channel shows any input!  The reverbs come out stereo, which sound very nice, but it's as if the guitar itself is somehow panned to the right.  I don't get it.
If I record it and play it back, it sounds exactly the same.  Main signal comes out of the right speaker, but all the reverbs/delays come out stereo.  It's a trip.
If I set the thing to "Mono" then I get nothing at all.
    Anyone?
Thanks for dropping any help you can give.

Oh, I didn't just blow out the speaker. I would know, because I was using headphones at the time. I also made sure right away to test with other devices being played through the analog stereo 1/8" input. All play through JUST the left side, regardless of output device.
However, sounds/noises/music/etc. generated by the computer itself (iTunes, movies, alert sounds, and such) are all stereo.

  • Left internal speaker volume issue (very weak)

    Hello,
The left internal speaker on my MBA is very very quiet (barely audible at maximum volume and with right channel disabled). The problem seems to have appeared recently as I was totally enjoying my MBA's sound before.
I have already tried the following:
    - Both speakers are equally balanced in System Preferences/Sound and Audio MIDI Setup.
    - The 'Play stereo audio as mono' box is unticked in System Preferences/Universal Access.
    - Latest software updates installed, the laptop restarted after that, the trouble remained.
    - Already tried resetting the SMC or PRAM and NVRAM.
    - Already tried reinstalling a fresh OS
Grateful for any useful comments, views and advice.

  • Audio input issue - No stereo... Right channel only.

    Hi
First to thank you for taking the time to read and consider this if you do - any help in this would be hugely appreciated
Ok - I'll try to make this as concise as poss but it needs some explanation:
I'm home-recording hobbyist musician. One of the things I would very much like to use the iMac for is to back up old four-track tape recordings, recording them as wav or mp3 as the case maybe and saving them to my hdd. Easy right? Apparently not, so far... let me explain:
On the tape recorder there is only an RCA stereo out (red and white, left and right). The very first thing I did when I got the iMac was download Audacity (the audio software), hooked up a stereo lead to the RCA outs on the tape recorder, and ran it into the line-in port on the iMac, using the 1/8" jack.
Now, sound came in, but only the right channel. The left channel was completely dead (ie when I panned the audio to the left, or if there was a sound in the mix that was only in the left channel, it was absent).
Since then I've bought Logic Pro and and an audio interface and this presents the EXACT same problem... Nothing in the left channel. (please note, I am aware you can "fake" stereo by setting a channel-strip to "mono" so that there is sound on both sides, but get this - it only splits the right channel in two - so you still don't have the left channel or genuine stereo signal frustratingly)
It should be noted that stereo sound is not a general problem on the system. Stereo output is perfect (ie on itunes, cds, online etc - or if I'm using softsynths in Logic for instance) it is solely an AUDIO INPUT issue.
Needless to say I've explored all options in sys prefs to no avail.
It should also be noted that I have also tested the actual output of the tape recorder and used the same leads to line into a home stereo system no problems.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or how this could be resolved? I am even open to suggestions for peripheral equipment, sofware additions etc - any questions at all, just ask.
Thanks again, any input would be welcome.
EDIT: I also posted this in the general iMac forum. Posting here for people w specific audio knowledge thanks!

    Pancenter, thanks once again.
Sorry about delay replying - have had an internet outage here just to add to my woes haha.
Anyway, the good news is that I think I've cracked it:
After updating the OS per your suggestion, uninstalling both Audacity and the m-audio (profire 610), and lastly resetting defaults on sys audio midi prefs I was still experiencing this problem - just on a line-in to Garageband. Pure frustration.
So eventually I just elected (in lieu of chucking the hardware out the nearest window lol) to do a cold re-install of the OS (erase and install option, backup hdd done). As I bought the iMac in January the OS is 10.5.5 I think.
After install, before doing anything else at all, I opened Garageband, set up an audio track and set input prefs to Line in Stereo 1/2 etc, and hooked up the tape unit via rca and the line-in port. The result? Perfect 2-channel stereo.
My personal theory is that the problem was created by the audio interface installation - an m-audio "profire 610" - Tho Audio interfaces are a frickin minefield anyway between Macs and PCS, chipset compatabilities, dodgy beta drivers, worthless gadget-hawking etc etc... I also realised that while my first original attempt was on Audacity I had already installed the profire unit just immediately before (but didn't use it). I doubt it was Logic which is designed specifically for the mac - I feel this theory might be proven when I reinstall these.
So there you go - get the Audio interface right it seems.. And I've got stereo audio.
Thanks for your help and input Pancenter - much obliged.
    Peace.

  • Right channel noise - x-fi titanium fatal1ty champion

    Hi everyone!
I recently bought a SB X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion sound card to replace my old Audigy (st edition) in order to be up to date with the rest of my system.
Since the very first installation of the card I've been experiencing many problems. At first, my bad, I forgot to completely uninstall my previous Audigy drivers (I was running Vista x64) and the result was quite of a mess. I then performed a deep cleaning with no cards connected at all and tried again with the packed drivers. At this time things seemed to had gone for the right way except for the front panel, which it was dead. So I decided to try with more recent drivers and dowloaded the last available (released in the end of august I think). Again, everything seemed to be fine at this time: sound was greate, front panel was working...just amazing. But suddenly the card just stopped working. No sound at all. Completely mute. The software features where working properly, windows eq was showing output but no way: both my speakers and headphones were mute. At this time I just tried several times to remove drivers, physically remove the card, disconnect the front panel but still no way. Once I was able (during one of my many attempts to reinstall the packed drivers) to get sound back. I was kinda excited but actually it's been since then that my right channel stopped working properly. Again, I tried very many cleanups, uninstalls and stuff but with no luck. Eventually I decided to format and to try out windows 7. Guess what? Just installed the web drivers and, yes, my right channel doesn't work.
So my problem now is the same: speakers config, card config and whatever are working good but anytime right channel is activated (wich means always when a sound is being played) I hear a noise just from the right speakers with a very low sound. The strange thing is that left channel and sub+central are working great, no noise, clean sound. It's just the right. Nothing changes switching to headphones.
Now, I've tried to solve the problem myself reading your kbs but no luck. I've noticed that this cards are having noise problems with nVidia chipsets..but this is not my case. Here's my system specs:
    Abit AX78 (AM2 chipset)
    AMD Phenom II x4 940
    4xgb corsair dominator @ 066MHz
    Gigabyte HD4850 OC GB GDDR3
    2x500GB WD SATAII
Windows 7 (clean install after format)
Oh, I forgot to mention that with windows drivers sound's working good but no enhancements at all...so, where's the point in using them?
At this time I almost hope it is card's fault and not driver's..at least the card can be replaced.
Do you guys have any ideas? Please let me know... I definetly can't li've without audio on my pc!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    alex

    Hi again!
I've just made a progress in understanding the problem (or at least I hope so). After trying many different settings i found out that my card is working fine in "Audio Creation Mode" only. In "Entertainment Mode" there's the right channel problem while in "Game Mode" there's just noise, totally inaudible!
Unluckily in Audio Creation Mode I cannot use the CMSS function so that my 5. system is useless for music playback. Seems like it is a driver problem though, doesn't it's
