Very weird dhcp issue

We've started 're-vlanning' our main location here, breaking up depts
into their own vlans.
All seems ok so far, aside from a real doozy.
For the IT vlan, we have one address that will not talk to our web
content mgmt appliance. It's the 2nd address in our assignable pool,
and it doesn't matter if it's dhcp or statically assigned, that address
will not talk to that device.
That is the *only* device that cannot be reached from this particular
address in our dept vlan, every other one works fine.
Any ideas on this?

So.... the title of this thread should actually be 'Very weird non-DHCP
issue', since your own testing confirms this has nothing to do with DHCP?
If you do a LAN trace on this machine as well as your web content
management appliance do you see packets on either side? Both sides? If
not on both sides but you do on the source (workstation) side see
packets going out, then get LAN traces after each network device
(switch, router, firewall, etc.) to see when the packets disappear.
Feel free to post the LAN traces somewhere with descriptions of IPs,
ports, and what you should be seeing, if you want to post them somewhere
for review.

Very Weird Speed Issue

Hi All,
This is a strange one, so I'll try and keep it short and simple.
Any speedtest I do, including speedtester.bt.com comes back exceptionally slow. usually around 300-400Kps. However, when downloading from newsgroups, the speed is 4.5MBps. Very weird. This is on BT Infinity with a sync rate of approx 38000
Any ideas?

I am the author of the "BT_UK Problem" thread and have seen a great improvement in tests to the UK from the UK over the past day.
Below is the best test taken today:
London has improved too,but it and some other UK servers seem to be having probs with upload readings.
So from my seat it is looking better and is/was I quess partly due the outage [power cut] that happened in the Birmingham area a few days ago.
From the outstanding works list there is work taking place in the London area,so the tests to London might get better.

Very Weird Sleep Issues - Help Needed

Hey Everyone,
I've been having some really weird issues with my iMac G5 lately. It will randomly go into sleep mode. Sometimes it'll do it once every hour or so, other times it will do it every 30 seconds, there is no rhyme or reason to it. I've obviously checked all my settings and the iMac has recently been to the shop to fix something else, but this new problem has developed over the last few weeks. It never crashes or freezes, it will just go into sleep mode and when I press a button it will turn back on. Working with video, this becomes the slightest bit annoying while trying to edit and such. So any help would be greately appreciated. And just as a side note: the computer is all updated, I'm running 10.3.9, and I believe my iMac is first gen (I don't think its the power problem they speak of because mine was just in shop for that issue)

Johnny, a SMU reset usually solves a number of power issues including sleep issues. If you go to this link it will detail all power problems. In step # 10 it refers to the SMU reset button and this is what you want to reset. The main part of the link is for when your Imac won't turn on at all, good reading but the SMU reset will probably fix your problem. Let us know, Bob :~))

Very weird date issue.

I have a client that is using CFMX7 Enterprise and an Oracle database. One of the database fields we're pulling in is a date. If the date/time is 04/04/2010 02:xx (2am range), coldfusion is automatically adding an hour to it and making it 03:xx. I changed the time in the field to 1am and 3am and it worked fine with both those numbers and I also left the time at 2am and changed the date to 04/05/2010 and the time remained correct.
Is there some daylight savings time issue from CF7? Anybody have a work around, besides putting in a catch for this specific date and time?

With a version of ColdFusion as old as CF7 you have to be aware that the daylight saving rules in the United States changed since that version was released. If the JVM has not been updated to understand the new rules, then that version is going to be operating on the previous set of day light savings rules.

Very weird importing issue

I just got a new PC recently. When I go to rip a CD or convert a file to any format, if it's the last song of an album the same thing happens: the progress bar fills all the way and then it stops and ITunes freezes. All the other tracks will convert fine. I did not have this issue on my old PC and I bet that if I tried it again there, I wouldn't have this problem. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on and how to fix this if possible?

I should also mention that if I import multiple tracks I either get most of them or a few, and if I try to convert a track by itself the same thing happens.

VERY weird startup issue...

I've never heard of this happening to anyone before and I'll try my best to describe it.
I have a g5 dual 1.8 running the latest 10.4.
The issue is that the computer starts up...goes to the load screen with the blue bar. It reaches the end, then stops. It doesnt continue to load the finder. But I can adjust my volume from the keyboard and move the mouse around and even get a system noise when I do optioncommandescape.
AND i tried connecting my old G4 (which im using now) to network to the g5 and I can log in and see all my files like nothings wrong at all.
I've had small issues for a while now, so I tried to run Norton on it. I booted off the Norton disk, ran disk doctor and it always cancels out at the same point. Attributes B-Tree is where it errors out and says Norton can't fix it, please try again. Say something about Node 2, Record 0, incorrect Key.
I tried starting safe mode...it ignores it and does the hanging load screen. I tried single user mode and running fsck. It goes through a list of hundreds of missing thread counts or something and then says disk verification failed. It never said anything about modifying or anything that the apple.com help page said.
So, anyone ever have this happen or know whats going on? Sorry for the long post but I tried to give all the details I could.

Yeap, you have a bad/corrupt OS that renders your mac unable to boot up properly.
Either:
a) get Disk Warrior, boot with it and repair your Directory
Use this method first, it "always work", at least over 90% (approx) of all system errors, if this still doesn't work, then you'd have to
b) boot from the OS disc, first repair everything first, then reinstall your OS using Archieve and Install, it will install a new fresh Systems folder but preserve everything else, your Home folder, your applications etc.
Finally, stay away, no, throw away your Norton Utilities, it WON'T work with OS X

Very weird connection issue

Ok. Got a new one.
This is Safari 3.1.1 PPC, running on a PowerBook G4, 10.4.11. The machine is definitely connected to the Internet. I receive email, and Firefox is working flawlessly.
But Safari can't open any webpage, I have trashed Safari itself and all files in the ~/Users/Library/Safari folder (keeping my bookmarks file on the desktop temporarily). I then reinstalled Safari by downloading a new copy from the Apple website, and installing from scratch.
Same problem with the new install.
Any ideas?

Wierd DHCP Issue

Hello All,
I facing a very wierd DHCP issue and would like to know your thoughts on it.
I have my wired clients on vlan 1 and wireless cleints(eap-peap) on VLAN 2.
We are facing an issue where multiple wired clients who were on access port vlan 1 are receiving IP address from wireless subnet(vlan2) -their DHCP server was the WLC virtual gateway IP address(1.1.1.1). This is causing an outage to few wired clients.
The WLC trunk does not have vlan 1 allowed on its ports and all APs are in local mode and all on access vlan.
I'm not entirely sure whats causing this, but only way I think this is possible is that 'A Client' laptop has his network connections bridged - his wired nic on VLAN 1 and wireless NIC on vlan 2, acting like a WGB, which is causing new wired clients(vlan1) DHCP broadcast request forwared through the bidge mode laptop to AP--> WLC. Do you think this is possible??
Havent been able to identify which client is causing this issue yet.
Has anyone faced a similar issue and anyway to block this through WLC/ACS policy?

A very weird echoey sound.

I just bought this laptop and when trying out music files, I noticed that the sound is very weird..like an echoey sort of sound. For example, for a certain song, I can only hear the background music for the most part and the words are very unclear like they're coming from a very deep place. I can't really explain it. I tried downloading like 10 songs and it's the same problem with all of them. I moved the songs to my phone and the sound was normal.
I can sense this effect for the videos as well, only in this case it's less obvious because there's no music.
I also tried different players; WMP, VLC..etc.

Try a clean install of the audio driver as follows.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load. Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if this has has any effect on the issue.

Projects doing very weird things

This has really been driving me nuts.
I'm on Mac 10.8.5. Just recently updated to CC 2014 v8.
I've been working on several projects lately, and very weird things are happening every time I open a project. Usually when you save and exit a project, when you reopen it, it will open to the same sequence you were last working on, but for some reason every time I open it will load a random sequence I hadn't worked on in a long time. Sometimes when I open, the project will load slowly indexing and conforming and generating peak files. After it thinking for 5 minutes, I go to play my sequence that was fine yesterday and now some audio tracks that are still in the timeline no longer contain any audio. When I match frame, the audio clip appears in source, but has no waveform and will not play any audio. Some audio tracks do not have waveforms but DO play audio, and when I match frame on those, the clip comes up and plays audio but shows no waveform.
Restarted computer and now all the audio loads fine, but thumbnails for all video aren't showing.
The other day I had a similar situation with VIDEO. Clips were randomly "pending" or "offline" and I would 'link' them, but it would remain offline or pending. Eventually it fixed itself somehow.
I'm having a hell of a time here. This is really holding me back from my work. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this as it is different everytime.
I'm working from an external harddrive that is brand new, and shouldn't be having any permissions issues...
Any insight would be appreciated!

Some trouble shooting:
Open Premiere while holding down shift+alt until welcome screen then
Clear out Media Cache database and remove remaining files in that folder manually.
See if that will help.

PowerMac G5 weird sound issue: no sound online, otherwise fine

This is a very weird issue. Sound works fine on DVDs and audio/video files. But online, there's no sound. I've tried both FireFox and Safari, and tried reinstalling them, but no luck. Advice?

WRT55AG - DHCP issues??

My WRT55AG isn't a very good DHCP server. I keep getting duplicate IPs on my network and everything is setup for DHCP. Anyone else having these issues? And once this happens, the router needs a reboot. At least 3 times a day.

192.168.15.100 (can assign up to 50 addresses).
So, I click on Static IP Assignment, click on one of the assignments in the lease list and it added the computer w/ 192.168.15.104 to the static list.
I then reboot my router, wait 'til it comes back up, reboot the computer and it gets 104 correctly. Then plug in my VOIP device (PAP2)... and there is goes.. it gets 192.168.15.104 !! Prior to that, it had 192.168.15.110 (so I know it's indeed using DHCP).
So, the router should have seen that the computer had 104 already (obviously), but it gave it to the PAP2 anyway.
No worry, thanks for your help... but last night I already ordered a replacement device from different manufacturer. Can only take about 4 months of a DHCP server like that It's been an on going issue. This device will be ebay-ed

DHCP Issue on Cisco 2960

I have an device that use Multicast and is unable to aquire an ip address when connected to a 2960 switch. I have a 3560 switch that is configured with the DHCP scope. We have DHCP pool configured. layer 2, and layer 3 switch's.
Basically what’s happing is that if we connect the device to the switch it does not get a DHCP address however if we apply a static address it works. Now I have duplicated this in the lab and the everything works fine, the only difference is that I have a different IOS on my Lab switch. The only thing i can think of is the IOS.
Any help would be appreciated.

Moreover i see only one DHCP pool on the layer 3 switch:

And as you said that it should pick IP address from vlan2, but i dont see any pool for vlan2 on the contrary you did mention that if you connect your laptop on that port it does pick IP address from vlan 2. its actually very weird.
If possible collect the wireshark captures from machine interface for more debugging. i want to see the DHCP process. and let me know if you need any help in collecting captures

Qosmio F50 very dim display issue

Recently my Qosmio F50-10z has started suffering a very weird problem. Often the screen goes absolutely dim. I can see a very very faint image if I concentrate very hard. External monitors when connected stay well lit and bright. The most weird bit is that when this happens I have to literally slam the lid shut and open the lid immediately to make the screen light up again.
I know it is either the inverter or the screen cable. My question is how do I find out whether it is the VGA cable or the inverter and where do I buy the part from!

In my opinion its an FL inverter issue since the picture on the external monitor is ok.
The FL inverter controls the display backlight and the issue sounds like FL inverter malfunction.
You can purchase and order all compatible parts from an local ASP.
The authorized service partner would be helpful and could also replace the part.
I would recommend this because notebook disassembling is very tricky.

Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
