VFD noise on other sensor output such as : Thermocouples, Accelerometer, Torque meter

Hi,
I'm using a PCIe-6351 Daq board (and SCB-68) for my test rig. I'm collecting different kinds of sensor outputs through this DAQ board such as temperatures, acceleration, and torque meter output.
beside that, I have connected a VFD (Baldor H2 inventor) using a USB cable to the PC case. I use this VFD to control motor speed. (http://www.baldor.com/products/accontrols/vs_inverter.asp)
Here is my problem:
when I turn on the VFD I get a lot of noise on every signal. This noise is like a peak which repeats every 5-6 seconds.
So it's not 50-60 HZ noise of outlets.
You can see related uploaded video clips on :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4NHDIVV7
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2461Z7KN
I have uploaded some pictures too.
Is there any way that I can filter this noise in Labview?  ( I have tried Filtration VI in labview, but couldn't find a correct setting)
How can I get rid of this noise?
I really appriciate your help on this matter.
Thanks.

I can very much identify with this issue.  I have a test bench with two motors and corresponding Baldor H2 VFD's on it. I have a variety of sensors such as accelerometers, hall effect sensors, and a torque meter.  The bench was put together "professionally" but still get this kind of noise.
The *only* sensor that I have this trouble with is the torquemeter.  I get an impulsive EMI blast every 12 seconds on this signal with just one drive turned on.  With the other drive turned on, the noise is excessive.  I have spent weeks troubleshooting assumed ground-loop faults with the torque meter company's tech rep - to no avail.
I have confirmed that this EMI is from the drive.  I hooked up a wire to the signal lead of an oscilloscope's VFD (acting as an antenna) and the noise I get on this oscilloscope is very similar to what I get on my torquemeter. (The noise is present only when the drive is powered up)
The noise from the VFD will not be cured by using a low pass filter.  Impulsive type events have very broad band noise.
My new approach is to try and use adaptive noise cancellation to get rid of the the VFDs' EMI on the torquemeter.  I gather the noise signal on my DAQ card (PCI-7851-R) by plugging just one wire into the positive port of an AI port and tying a 1 mega Ohm resistor from that port's ground to the AI port; this provides a means of collecting the EMI from the drive with an "antenna." The wire dangles by the side of the VFD with the other end taped up.   See the following for a description of adaptive noise cancellation with labview (also possible on an NI FPGA device):
http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372357A-01/lvaftconcepts/aft_noise_cancel/
I believe this to be the only sound signal processing means of addressing this issue.  I am still struggling to get it to work myself.  I'll advice as I progress.

  • Is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

I have around 64 analog sensors to connect to PXI4472. Instead of buying 8 PXI4472, is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

Such a set up is not recommended. Some of the drawbacks are:
Depending on how you plan to multiplex the signals together (SCXI/PXI switch, 3rd party mux), you could very easily be introducing noise to your system.
Multiplexing the signals together into one line limits your sampling rate to the switching speed of you multiplexer device.
You will probably need to spend more time developing handshaking schemes in order for switching and acquisition to occur in such a way that you don't miss signals that you want to acquire.
These are only some of the drawbacks to this setup. All in all, the only functionality of the 4472 board that you would be left with is it's ability to sample all eight channels at the same time. So, you could multi
plex all the signals together, but doing so is not recommended.
However, I have a couple of questions. Do you want to sample all 64 sensors at the same time? Assuming that you are not, how are you planning on multiplexing the signals together? What kind of a chassis are you working with? Please let me know.

  • Firewire drive noise appearing in audio output

    Hi:
When I have a firewire drive plugged in, a lot of digital noise appears at the audio output jack. If I turn the drive off, I hear a whining-down noise in the audio output. I've tried two different drives, 3 different cables, same thing. Anyone have any ideas? It's a huge bummer; I bought my MacBook Pro to do music on...

    Hey george,
i know this is not going to be any help, (i need some too!!!) but i have exactly the same problem. I first noticed it when using my ICY BOX external harddrive and thought it was just the noise from the external drive but the same thing happens when i attach my Motu traveler firewire soundcard to it. Its so annoying. the sound dissapears when i take out the mini jack from the output.
I am also having a problem of sound distortion over the output and recording input when i attach my Motu firewire unit
(this is seperate from the minijack problem i think as this happens when the minijack is plugged into the output AND when it is not).
This didnt happen to my powerbook 1.6 and never happens to my friends one either????
I am going to make a seperate thread about this problem now but if you could tell me if you have the same problem with your soundcard i would be grateful.
All the best and if you find out what the problem is please post your solutio up, vice versa.
    Will.

  • Lot of noise from laptop audio output

I'm getting a lot of noise from the audio output of my Macbook Pro (early 2008) OS 10.8.5 when I connect an external firewire 800 drive that uses a power cord. I get more of the same noise when I connect an external video monitor. The noise is a digital hashy and whiney sound that modulates sometimes as what on the screen changes. If I use my Focusrite Scarlett interface the noise is amplified to the point that I can't work. The noise starts when the drive's power cord is plugged in. If I work off a pocket USB drive there is no noise. This is my work around for now. I'm using a power strip that has noise filtering. I have 2 different studios and I get the same noise in both. I've done a lot of trouble shooting and have narrowed the problem down to connecting a drive with a power cord to the computer. I have tried different drives too with the same result. Is there any hope of fixing this?

Can't say I've ever had any noise when starting the unit up over optical - if your DAC is designed for stereo only then it may be causing noise by attempting to play the 5.1 startup video's audio bitstream which is dolby digital encoded not stereo.

    Hi
I actually dont think its Lion (sorry i put that as couldn't remember) as not on that computer at the moment, its at home, I am at work. I know CS2 is compatable with whatever OS I am using because I can using CS2 indesign etc and I was able to use CS2 photoshop until I updated the Camino browser (I believe this is when it stopped working). I have CS5 but it wont work at all on my Powerbook G4.
I can send a message later with the OS I am using and maybe you can suggest other help? They told me in the MAC shop to try and get the installation discs. They also said I would be able to get these via Apple's 'media replacement programme' which I cannot find anyway! To be honest, I am not even sure getting the install discs will work but I'll try whatever I need to try and get Photoshop working on it again!

  • Soundcard output noise interference from headphone output

    Hi,
I am getting some output noise from headphone output when AC power supply is connected.
Does not occur when running on battery only.
Need to clear this up as am using for DJ work.
    Any ideas appreciated.Drivers, filter?...?

i've had this problem for a couple of years now and a guy i know also has had this problem but for even longer and i am delighted to tell you that i've figured it out!!
my laptop was plugged in to a multiplug adaptor (just a standard extension) along with other things like my monitor and my amp etc., but also my tv. it has been faulty recently and i've had it unplugged for the past 24 hours to see if would make a difference. during these 24 hours i hadn't noticed that the sound had stopped, untill that is, i plugged the tv back in! it's simply due to one of the other devices. try the laptop direct into the socket or at least on it's own in the extesion.
hope this works for you too!

  • FPGA velocity estimation and VFD noise

Hi, I'm using an NI FPGA (a 7411, I believe) with an RT unit and VFD to get very low lag, high resolution velocity estimation from a 3600 pulse/rev quadrature encoder (mounted on the VFD driven motor). When the VFD is off and I turn the encoder by hand I get very good tracking and low noise. With the VFD enabled, however, the system is very noisy and usually has about a 1-5% error. The whole system needs to have as little lag as possible (<.01ms).
I'm looking for ways of reducing noise in the system programmatically on the FPGA or of enhancing the noisy signal to make the system more sturdy.

Can you change the switching frequency on the VFD?
Is wiring to motor in conduit? Is conduit metal? If so is it grounded?
Failing that, many cable manufactures now offer armored cable designed just for VFD applications they may reduce radiated emmisions compared standard thre phase cables.

  • NOISE ON MY AUDIO OUTPUT

I have a 50 foot shielded audio output from my imac and I cannot even listen to the output because there is so much electronic noise. I thought it might be the long run but if I hook my IPOD up it works perfect. has anyone else had grounding issues with the imacs sound card or imac in general because even when I run video out there is video noise also in my second display. I can't decide whether or not I need to take this computer in to be serviced.

Do you have the same noise problem with a set of headphones pluged into the iMac? Some here have noticed audio noise issues related to there optical mouse, is yours wired or wireless? A wired mouse should be pluged into the back of the keyboard! Also it seems that some have had to return the mouse for a replacement because of this issue. To test setup the audio as you had earlier and unplug your mouse! And lastly it couldn't hurt to reset your SMC follow the instructions in this link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446

  • W500 audio noise while using audio output

    Hello,
Few months ago I've bought Lenovo W500. After some time realized that when I'm using an audio output in sometimes I can hear annoying noise. I've checked it with different headphones (also professional ones) and other audi equipment. Always the same.
In the beginning I've thought there are some problems with my Alsa configuration (I'm using mainly Linux) but havent time to check.
Now I've spent more time for that. I've couldn't find solution, decided to check on Windows also - there is the same problem (with exactly the same audio files/youtube videos etc.)
Checked with different quality audio files - mp3, flac, audio cd etc. Always the same.
I can hear it very good in this moovie:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaUL_7H7r40
first time noise appears at 00:02 - 00:03 and then I can hear it in almost whole time.
If I turn off all audio players etc. I can still hear annoing, quiet noise from headphones (on both OSes - Linux/Windows).
    Has anyone simmilar problem?
Any solution? My W500 is ofcourse under warranty but I need it at the moment very hard, so I hope there is some solution different than sending it to service :/
    Thanks a lot,
    Regards.

If you discard any software related problem, your problem is over hardware.
The only solution is sending to service and the will repair it for free. Maybe the will change the entire motherboard.
    Best regards.

  • Noise floor of audio output

I noticed that the noise floor of the audio output in my 15" MacBook Pro is quite noticable when using external speakers. Is it just the way the sounds cards in these machines are or is there a problem with my specific unit?

connecting an external display or anything on the firewire bus raises the noise floor of the audio interface significantly. if that is your case, you're in the same camp as all macbook users ever since the intel transition. hope this helps.

  • Lm_sensors: sensors output

    Hi,
When I type "sensors", I get:

    Adapter: Virtual device

and nothing else. I can't seem to get the chipset info.

Why doesn't "sensors" print it87-related info?
I don't know if it is related, but sometimes the temperature gets very high (I notice it with my fingers) and I have to reboot; then the fan runs at full speed for about 2 min to cool the CPU.
    Any help?

I made sure i2c_dev, i801, and core were all loaded.
when i run sensors-detect, this is the output
    [timms@arch ~]$ sudo sensors-detect

This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need
to load to use lm_sensors most effectively. It is generally safe
and recommended to accept the default answers to all questions,

Some south bridges, CPUs or memory controllers contain embedded sensors.
