VGA Adapter not working with a projector at work

Hello,
I've been preparing some presentations (the first one in less than 2 hours!!!) using my Mackbookpro, then transfer them onto my ipad, where I retouched them so they would look better.
I tested the VGA adaptor at work with my LCD TV.. it worked. Then at work I used a pc monitor, it worked.
but went to the meetings room, plugged in the projector and nothing happened. the iPad doesn't seem to be recognising it. There no video out, in keynote the play button doesn't appear within a square like it should.
Is there anything I can do?
Apple should put a control panel to handle the VGA out

Assuming you are using this:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC552ZM/B/apple-vga-adapter
If you are using this:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A/apple-composite-av-cable
Then it won't.
Have you tried resetting the iPad?  Hold down the Power/Sleep and Home buttons until the Apple Logo Appears. This shoudl reboot the iPad. Then, with the projector on, try to connect the VGA adapter to the iPad.

DVI to VGA adapter not working with my G5 Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC. I am trying to use a VGA Monitor but can not get a signal. I also am using a Dell with a DVI Input and that works fine using a DVI Cable from my G5 to the Dell u2410.

    Bad adapter?
The G5 ports are DVI-I. Any good DVI-I to VGA adapter should be fine.

  • Dock to VGA Adapter Not Working

I just bought this device with great excitement only to now be seething with anger! I hope I'm doing something wrong and someone else has experienced this, overcome and now able to help me. I do not see an exact match in past posts on this topic.
Basically the device does not appear to work. I have so far tried with an HP LCD monitor and also an Acto projector: both do not detect a signal from the device. This was with Keynote and Goodreader (latest version with VGA support). I've tried re-powering, removing the cable putting back, landscape/ portrait orientation etc etc.
Is it that this device only works with specific VGA devices?
Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Don't be angry podpad.... But I know what you mean! It would appear the VGA adapter only works in certain apps - those written to use it. The vanilla iPad only projects in keynote - when you 'play' the presentation and non DRM protected video... Yes irritating. However, I've seen several new apps come up that do support it - and a few upgrades now include it... We just have to wait.
Check out goodreader (as previously mentioned) for documents - PDF etc and Webshow (only 59p) for showing web pages.
The rest we'll have to wait for but perhaps we can keep this thread going with apps that support it and what they support!
If it's worth it... I thought it would simply display the iPad screen in everything... I was a bit peeved it didn't!

  • Mini DVI to VGA adapter not working

    Hello -
I just purchased a new Mini DVI to VGA adapter to use with my Mac Book. The day I bought it I plugged it in and worked great! Now after disconnecting it and reconnecting back to my Mac Book things are not so good. When I hook everything up to each other the monitor shows "no signal". Using Systems Preferences/Detect Display does not help at all. Am I missing something obvious here? I'm a new Mac junkie.

Here is an Apple article on the subject of having no video on an external monitor. It's written about the Mac mini, but it applies equally to any other Mac.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301345
And here is another Apple article that is more generalized and with fewer suggestions, though it might be a good place to start from. Good luck.

  • VGA Adapter Not Working in Windows 7 (64 bit)

I was running Win7 (64 bit) through bootcamp and could not get the VGA adapter to work.  I've tested it and it worked fine while under OS X.  In Windows 7, it could detect the secondary display, but my monitor no has signal.  I was re-install windows, but no work anytime. Anyone else encountered this issue and have a fix?
    I have a early 2011 13" Macbook pro - 2.3 GHz/4GB RAM

But I have it worked fine a week ago! I think that stopped working after firmware update...

  • Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter not working with SMART board all of a sudden?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on getting my classroom's (I'm student teaching) SMART board connected to my macbook pro (13 in).  Two days ago I tested the setup I had, Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, Mac OS X SMART software suite and it worked flawlessly.  Today I try the setup and although the SMART board recognizes my macbook via usb, the projector does not display anything.  System preferences does not even recognize the projector as an external monitor.  When I plug in my Mini-DVI to VGA adapter (already attached to the VGA cord from the SB) the screen flashes black and goes back to normal.  Official work from SMART technologies is there is no supported adapters for connecting a macbook to a SB but I have seen numerous threads about this setup working and like I said it was previously working fine. Any suggestions on what to try next? I was thinking of dual booting to an older version of OS X. Thanks.
    Specs:
    MacBook Pro 13 in
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    10.9.1

If your laptop is not connected to power (i.e., plugged in to a wall), try plugging it in.  It is not uncommon for a laptop to send the VGA signal out with less power when it is on battery power.  I've seen this fix this problem, at least, dozens of times.
Try connecting the VGA cable to your adapter while the smart board display is on THEN plug the adapter in to your computer.
Also, try connecting the VGA+Adapter to your mac before booting it (or connect the macbook to the vga cable and then reboot the macbook).  I've seen this work with macbooks using vga on projectors (or other external displays running through longer cables or crestron/extron/whatever switching equipment) many many times too.
If these fail, get your campus AV (or IT) people involved.  We have often found that a damaged cable or long run needing amplification will work with some computers but not with others.  It could be that the cable running from the smart board is somewhat sketchy.
Also, have you attempted to connect your macbook to any other display since starting to have the issue?  A bad dongle (dp to vga adapter) isn't rare.  I have a bad one sitting on my desk at this very moment.
One last thing you can try, this works for some:
    Shut of the mac
Connect it to the smart board (i.e, connect the cables)
Turn on the mac and then close the lid
This *may* boot the computer on the external dispaly (smart board)
Open the lid before it comes to the login screen.
Hopefully one of these suggestions helps.

  • Lightning to VGA Adapter not working with certain apps

I've recently noticed that I can't watch movies on Netlix any more with my Lightning to VGA Adapter going to an LCD monitor.  It works just fine with other apps just not Netflix.  Apple says it is a Netflix app problem, and Netlix doesn't want to admit it's anything wrong with their app.  Any one else have this problem?  Is there a solution?

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not working under Vista (Boot Camp).

    Hi there,
I'm facing a very serious issue with MacBook Pro Unibody running MS Vista under Boot Camp: using the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to hook a projector is 95% impossible because the only resolution available is 640x480 or sometimes 800x600. No solution came from the adaptor firmware update, still same behavior: connecting the external projector/monitor toggles 640x480 resolution with no more choices available. Just 5% of attempts on selected projectors gave me access to the complete resolutions list.
This is having a serious impact on my job where I do need both Mac&Windows running natively and with external display capabilities, please I'm looking for some feedback from users facing the same problem or someone who had an official answer on this issue from Apple. Do avoid posting about using modded display drivers please: I know they exist but the adaptor should be working with original ones.
I can understand Apple does not support MS Vista issues but this seems to be a hardware/driver one.
I'd like to point out I'm using a clean Vista installation with Apple drivers (from the Leopard DVD) and I've run Vista (same version, same gfx drivers etc) under Boot Camp on my previous MPB (with integrated DVI output+adapter) on hundreds of different projectors with never a single problem.
    Any feedback is really appreciated.
    L.

I'm having the same problem. When I try to connect to the switch in our conference room (connecting both a flat panel display and/or a projector, both with much higher native resolutions), all I get is 640x480. This is a huge problem to using bootcamp, and I really need to get this to work. I was able to get a higher resolution 1280x800 on a separate, portable display, so I'm wondering if people have the problem with standalone projectors or only with projectors connected to some sort of switch, in my case an Extron MPX423A. I have also tried this in both Windows Vista (32-bit) and Windows 7 RC1 (32-bit), with the bootcamp drivers and the latest NVidia drivers, and the behavior is the same all around.

  • Apple VGA adapter not compatible with OS 5 on iPad!

Few months ago I updated my iPad 2 to OS 5. Since then, the Apple VGA Adapter has stopped working and I'm no longer able to mirror the content of my device on my TV (or any other TVs or equipments for that matter). Before the update, with OS 4, it was working perfectly. That's why on my second iPad 2, the one I use for work intensively, I had decided to keep OS 4 so I could use mirroring. As a sales trainer, I really need that particular feature to project presentations, videos and many apps I'm using, on a TV or a screen (through a projector). Yesterday, I eventually decided to upgrade to OS 5 because I wanted to fully use iCloud and also needed to update Pages, Keynotes etc...
Well, now it's impossible to make the Apple VGA Adapter works!! Same iPad, same cable (the expensive one bought at the apple store), same TV, different OS and it no longer works! My conclusion is that Apple deliberately introduced a function that deactivate the VGA cable in OS 5, probably to force people to buy the even more expensive Apple TV. I don't need Apple TV because I'm traveling and simply need to connect my iPad to a projector or a TV and share my screen. I'm not going to travel with an Apple TV box....Don't mention the HDMI cable because most of the equipments I'm using don't have an HDMI port.
I've seen Apple changing a lot those last few years, slowly becoming a greedy and unethical corporation, it's so sad really...I hope that the competitors will come up soon with a product as good as the iPad.
In the meanwhile, if somebody knows how to make the cable work after the OS 5 update I would really appreciate some help! Thanks!

Strange - my two VGA adapters (model A1368, both  purchased in 2010) work just fine on my
    - 5.1.1 iPad 2 AND iPad 3 (mirroring too)
    - 5.1 iPad 1 (video playback only)
    The iPads are not jailbroken.
I've heard stories of component / composite  cables stop working (my "old" component cable works just fine on all these devices) and it's also known the "old" (pre-March) HDMI adapters display a "Not compatible" dialog but they still do  work if you just dismiss the dialog. However, I have never heard stories of the VGA adapter's stopping working. Are you sure it's indeed the VGA adapter?

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter not working

    Hello all!
I purchased a new adapter today off amazon. When I plug it in (with or without VGA cable attached) the screen goes blue for a few moments and comes back to my OS Screen, however, none of my external displays are recognized! My projecter, HDTV, 4:3 monitor, and my Dell 16:10 monitor are all undetected. I tried installing the infamous update and it did not want to (said could not detect adapter). I'm assuming it's rather new seeing how it said thunderbolt on the box, but the box came all ripped open.
Other than returning the product, is there any way to try to get this thing working?

Yeah i tried it with another 19" monitor which had the same outcome, there was a signal but no image.
If it's not working with two different monitors, that's a pretty sure sign the adapter is bad.

  • Mini DisplayPort auf VGA Adapter not working

    Hi,
While in Germany I bought a 'Mini DisplayPort auf VGA Adapter' in order to be able to do presentations on a Beamer. This worked fine for a couple of weeks but now has stopped working.
I reinstalled the operating system to be sure that no drivers are missing but still would not work. I borrowed the same adaptor from a friend and his works fine.
How can I have it exchanged please? On top of that I am not sure I can still find the receipt because as it was working fine for the first few weeks I assumed it will remain fine and probably threw this away.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks CellarDwellr.
I live in Vienna and things are always different here.
We do not have any Apple Store but a company that represents Apple called McShark.
I went to them with the adaptor and they said they needed my MacAir serial number in order to send it in. Never heard that in order to replace a faulty cable one needs also the serial number of the machine, did you?! ...
So I go home again and get the serial numbers of both my iMac and my MacAir.
After waiting on them for over half an hour they say they may still not be able to send it in because I do not have the receipt of the purchase. I asked why they could not have told me this earlier on instead of wasting half my day ... The assistant said, yes they could have, but didn't even apolgoize!
Anyway she needs to verify with her colleague and call me on Monday to tell me if they can send it to Apple or not.
Unbelievable bad service and even worse attitude. If anyone from Apple company reads this my suggestion is to revise their association with this company as it ruins the good brand they have.

  • MiniDVI to VGA adapter not working

Just last night the adapter was working fine at home connected to CRT display.
But now at office it is not working connected to LCD.
Nothing happen at all, MacBook doesn't detect the connection. Nothing on System Preference > Display, and nothing on About this Mac > More Info.
Looking at the adapter pins (male MiniDVI), at first I thought 2 of the pins fell off or something but after checking internet, those pins (21 and 23) originally not installed. Thats fine.
However, some of the other pins are shorter than others.
Is this a defect or original condition also.
I am not sure the problem is with the adapter or the MacBook connector or the LCD.
    Can somebody assist.
    Thanks.
-will try again on the CRT when I get home.

yup. but it still didn't detect.
by the way, the connection with the LCD was working fine 2 days ago.
so i guess the problem is either with the adapter or the MacBook's connector.
is there any way to check whether it is one or the other?
(other than taking them to the service center)
    Thanks Mort.

  • Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine

Mini-Displayport to DVI adapter not working, but Mini-Displayport to VGA and Thunderbolt work fine.
This is a brand new MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012) just received.  I suspect that this is a hardware problem as:
The mini-displayport to DVI adapter and the external monitor that I am utilizing connect and operate just fine using my older MacBook Pro (mid-2010) with the same OS.
The new MacBook Pro powers the external monitor with a mini-displayport to VGA adapater without issue.
The new MacBook Pro powers an Apple Thunderbolt display without issue.
Both MacBook Pro's are running OSX Lion 10.7.4.
The only combination which does not work is the mini-displayport to DVI adapater used in conjunction with the brand new MacBook Pro (mid-2012).
All adapters and components (mini-displayport adapters) are Apple retail adapter.
I have tried several external monitors, including my Dell U2412m.
When I connect the mini-displayport to DVI adapater to the new MacBook Pro (mid-2012), nothing happens. The external monitor reports "no signal" and attempts to go into sleep mode.  Using the "Detect displays" button has no effect, even when used multiple times.  Rebooting does not help, nor does resetting the SMC or PRAM.
Any other suggestions before I take it to the Genius Bar?

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.
