VGA adapter pigtail is manuf. out of spec. - stnd plug cannot engage

The VGA adapter pigtail for our new Macbooks are manufactured out of specification. The nuts on the plug are set back by about 1/16 of an inch too far away for the screws on a standard video cable plug to engage. This setback is caused by the plastic outer casing of the adapter which now wraps around the business end of the plug. Apple's previous pigtail design did not do this. The nuts were fully visible. That 1/16 of an inch is all it takes to put the nuts out of reach. The adapter is also looser than previous designs. There is not enough friction to hold it in place. Hopefully Apple has a program to replace these. This is a problem in educational situations where this pigtail is frequently used. In the mean time some stout rubber bands will have to do. Luckily the new adapter case is squared off so that rubber bands have something to hold on to.

I have yet to see a sub-D 15 connector with screws long enough to engage the nuts behind that added 1/16" of plastic Apple has on this new connector style. I guess people are relying on a friction fit to hold the connectors together. Does anyone know of a particular sub-D 15 hooded connector that works?

Hi. I just bought a rocketfish RF-AP307 mini dispalyport to Vga Adapter for my 11" MacBook Air. I plugged it in and all I can see is a flash of blue then the original galaxy desktop with out any of the things I have on it on my copmuter. When I open the internet or anything, all I see is gray and I cant hear anything.I can see when I switch from one page to another buts its still all gray. Can anybody help me?

    Hi
i did what you said and tried with other resolution/refresh rate combinations, also with anoter external monitor (and vga cable) but its still the same: monitor is detected but there's no signal.
Now I will try to chek if the adapter works on other pc and monitor.
    Thanks

  • Windows 7 Beta 1 with MiniDisplay to VGA adapter

I am using a MacBook Pro (Late 2008) which has the MiniDisplay port.
At work I use a MiniDisplay to VGA adapter for my external screen.
At home I use a MiniDisplay to DVI adapter for my external screen.
In Windows Vista, both cables work and display the extended desktop without any problem, 100% of the time.
In Windows 7 Beta 1 (Build 7000), my MiniDisplay to DVI cable extends my dekstop onto my external screen 100% of the time without problem; however, my MiniDisplay to VGA fails to extend my desktop onto my external screen aprox 90% of the time.
-When I initially plugged my MiniDisplay to VGA adapter in, the desktop extended.
-When letting Windows 7 put the screens into sleep (after waiting for the timeout), The external screen fails to come back on. Unplugging the MiniDisplay to VGA adapter and plugging it back in fails to solve the problem.
From this point on, when I plug the MiniDisplay to VGA adapter into my MacBook Pro, the laptop screen flickers, but does not extend to the external display. If I goto Appearance and Personalization -> Display -> Screen Resolution, I can see the external display (which is correctly detected as a HP L2208w)- If i try to change 'Multiple displays' to extend desktop, the screen flickers, and nothing happens. However when I click 'Detect' the external display dissapears from the Screen Resolution page.
If i leave the MiniDisplay to VGA adapter unplugged for a few hours, when I plug it in again, SOMETIMES it may extend the desktop to my external display... But this has only happened once.
This is a really annoying problem which is forcing me to revert back to Windows Vista.
    Thanks for your time

Same issue - but that's why they call it Beta... not just for the fish on the desktop :P

  • Useless VGA Adapter

I mistakenly thought I'd be able to use the VGA adapter to view the screen of my iPad mirrored on a monitor. However, the VGA adapter only supports video output from certain applications. There is no way to simply view a Safari web page on the monitor.
The VGA adapter also does not have an option for plugging in to power while viewing video. So, you have to run off battery. The Composite/Component connectors ship with a power supply so you can plug in the iPad while watching videos.
And, of course, the VGA adapter doesn't do anything for sound. Overall much more limited than the Composite/Component cables and lacking the most obvious functionality which business users might want.

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

I would like to add a third monitor.
The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

  • Input signal out of range with HDMI to VGA adapter LE1901w

    Hi!
Recently I acquired an LE1901w monitor to use as second screen. I'm trying to connect it to my Toshiba u925 using an HDMI to VGA adapter (because neither the monitor has a HDMI port nor the notebook has a VGA output).
I'm getting the message "input signal out of range" asking to change to 1440x920 @ 60Hz and it keeps showing until the monitor goes to sleep even when I change the settings as per requested.
I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and i'm using the default Windows monitor drivers for Windows 8.1
    Any comment will be helpful
    Thanks

    Hello @fbinim,
I understand that you are getting the message "Input Signal Out Of Range" and it is asking you to change to 1440x920 @ 60 Hz. I suspect this is a driver issue and you will need to ensure that your drivers are up to date on your computer. Just to be sure I would recommend if you could to move the HP LE1901W monitor to another computer and ensure that you do not have the problem there. If you do have it on another computer The issue you are experiencing appears to be a physical issue. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. • IPad 4 lightning to vga adapter, works but gets stuck in video out mode. I can't get it to switch back to mirroring without restarting it

I have an iPad 4 with an Apple lightning to vga adapter. (A1439)
It connects fine to my HDTV and projector for doing presentations and video etc.
But if I do show any video on it, e.g. full screen a video from within Chrome, Safari, the apps for Youtube etc.
or if I do a presentation using Keynote, it locks into working as an extended second screen.
It shows the controls for the video on the iPad and the video on the external screen, which is what I would expect. But then if I exit the video or complete the presentation, the external screen continues to show the last frame of the video or presentation. Even if I close the app.
I can't get back to using it in mirroring mode without shutting it down and restarting.
Surely I am just missing something.
I've tried force closing the apps that I use, switching between them, starting up new ones etc.
    But no luck.
There doesn't seem to be a setting anywhere that I can change.
    Any suggestions?

The same thing happened to me. After the big update, I also experienced exactly what you described. I ended up restoring the ipad a number of times.
The first few times, I restored from a back-up. The last few times I have restored the ipad as new. It would work the next few times I turned the machine on, and around the third time, it would lapse back into the recovery mode, with
the image of the serial cord connecting to an i-tunes logo on its desktop. This morning, I restored the ipad as new, but only allowed the apps manufactured by Apple to be synced back onto the ipad. I have powered it back on about three times, and so far, so good. I am waiting to see what happens the next few times I turn the machine on.
I had a very helpful senior Apple express advisor help me on Sunday to do the restore as a new ipad procedure. He said that if that did not work, the next step was having it serviced. He also mentioned that often the third party apps have problems due to getting corrupt and this often happens after a major update. That is why I thought i'd try and see what would happen if I only synced the Apple apps back onto the ipad.
It is not good though if I can't put third party applications on it without having the problem of lapsing into recovery mode, so I may have to get it serviced. I am wondering how many others have had this problem after the big update last week? Also, has anyone who was an early purchaser and got the flat-rate unlimited data plan subscription from AT&T, had to have their ipad replaced? Was there a problem with AT& T still allowing you to continue your special subscription plan?

  • DVI to VGA adapter... Which one?

    Hey all,
Currently I'm using an "oldish" VGA monitor with my Power Mac G5, which does me fine.
Just recently, my neighbour gave me his old VGA monitor that he doesn't use anymore, so I thought I could take advantage and try out a dual display setup...
I just want to know if any DVI to VGA adapter will be compatible, not just the Apple one.
    Regards,
    Daniel

  • Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter not working with SMART board all of a sudden?

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on getting my classroom's (I'm student teaching) SMART board connected to my macbook pro (13 in).  Two days ago I tested the setup I had, Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, Mac OS X SMART software suite and it worked flawlessly.  Today I try the setup and although the SMART board recognizes my macbook via usb, the projector does not display anything.  System preferences does not even recognize the projector as an external monitor.  When I plug in my Mini-DVI to VGA adapter (already attached to the VGA cord from the SB) the screen flashes black and goes back to normal.  Official work from SMART technologies is there is no supported adapters for connecting a macbook to a SB but I have seen numerous threads about this setup working and like I said it was previously working fine. Any suggestions on what to try next? I was thinking of dual booting to an older version of OS X. Thanks.
    Specs:
    MacBook Pro 13 in
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    10.9.1

If your laptop is not connected to power (i.e., plugged in to a wall), try plugging it in.  It is not uncommon for a laptop to send the VGA signal out with less power when it is on battery power.  I've seen this fix this problem, at least, dozens of times.
Try connecting the VGA cable to your adapter while the smart board display is on THEN plug the adapter in to your computer.
Also, try connecting the VGA+Adapter to your mac before booting it (or connect the macbook to the vga cable and then reboot the macbook).  I've seen this work with macbooks using vga on projectors (or other external displays running through longer cables or crestron/extron/whatever switching equipment) many many times too.
If these fail, get your campus AV (or IT) people involved.  We have often found that a damaged cable or long run needing amplification will work with some computers but not with others.  It could be that the cable running from the smart board is somewhat sketchy.
Also, have you attempted to connect your macbook to any other display since starting to have the issue?  A bad dongle (dp to vga adapter) isn't rare.  I have a bad one sitting on my desk at this very moment.
One last thing you can try, this works for some:
    Shut of the mac
Connect it to the smart board (i.e, connect the cables)
Turn on the mac and then close the lid
This *may* boot the computer on the external dispaly (smart board)
Open the lid before it comes to the login screen.
Hopefully one of these suggestions helps.

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter flickers

I have 2 Samsung SyncMaster 23 in, HD Displays connected to my Mac Mini. The Display connected via the Mini DP to VGA adapter flickers erratically. This started happening after installing the latest upgrade of OSX Mountain Lion. I called Apple support, they gave me a list of steps to try to fix the problem, which I followed to the letter, to no avail. The problem is annoying, to say the least. I tried to find out if there was a firmware update for the adapter, but I am running the latest firmware (1.03).
I would appreciate any help to solve this issue.

    Thank you for your message.
    1. Both monitors only have VGA input.
    2. The other adapter, Mini-DVI to VGA has always worked properly.
    3. The Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is an Apple original product I bought at an Apple store. I bought 2 adapters.
    4. Actually I have 2  Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapters: The one I use with my Mac Mini, and another adapter I use to connect my Mac Book Pro to a Panasonic projector.
    5. I have tried using both adapters, and the flickering problem is present using either adapter.
    6. I believe the flickering problem is definitely something that needs to be addressed and solved by Apple. The adapter is its product, and should work as advertised, no matter what version of OSX I am running. Please remember that there was no flickering before I upgraded to the latest OSX Mountain Lion.
    7. I do not believe buying an adapter from another manufacturer, as you suggest, would solve the problem.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Mini dvi to vga adapter doesn't fit Mac Book port

I bought a "mini dvi to vga" adapter at the local Apple store at the mall and it does not fit the mini DVI connection on my Mac Book. What is the correct mini dvi configuration or part number for the Mac Book Mini dvi port?

It may be. I threw the bag out so I can't check. I was in a hurry and thought I picked up the right adapter but guess not.
Thanks for your help. Know anyone that needs a mini vga to vga adapter?

  • Mini- DVI to VGA adapter Or is that, DVI to DVI?

I am having difficulty figuring out which adapter to purchase if I want to use my MacBook to make a Keynote or PowerPoint Presentation with an LCD projector.
Do I need the Mini- DVI to VGA adapter, or is it DVI to Video adapter, or DVI to DVI adapter? Good grief! I've made fabulous-looking slides and just want to take my computer to the lecture hall, connect it to their projector, and give my talk. How does one decide which cable to get, if I don't know for certain what kind of projector they are using?
Aren't all LCD projectors standardized this way?
    Thanks for the clarification.
    ~ john

As mentioned, VGA is much more common than DVI is on projectors, so the mini-DVI to VGA will certainly work more often than the mini-DVI to DVI will.
It costs $19USD, so I would get both and use the best option available to you when you get to the location and see what kind of projector they have.
You also may want to pack the VGA and a DVI cable just in case. You never know if the location will have one on hand, or if it gets misplaced just in time for your arrival.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter Problems in Boot Camp / Windows

I currently run Windows XP SP2 on my MacBook and recently purchased the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter so I could hook up the MacBook to an external projector, monitor, or TV to display what's on my Windows screen on the external device. However, when I connect it to any external device, it just goes nuts and sporadically continues to make the hardware connect and hardware disconnect sounds and doesn't allow for external output of the screen. Any suggestions...? Thanks!
    Marc

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter Resolution?

If I hook my macbook to my hdtv using the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter what's the highest resolution I'll achieve? Will it be the max resolution of the TV or the Macbook?

    Hey,
These are the specs that Apple provides for the GMA 950.
"Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors."
