VGA adapter question

I want to connect my ibook G4 to my Sony HD TV - I have the adapter that came with the ibook. But, it is so short - When I attach it to the back of my TV and the other end to my ibook - I'm on the back of the TV and can't see. If this is really stupid - I apologize. I just can't figure it out. Do I need another extender cable? thanks so much.

You need a VGA extender cable, you can buy them at most computer stores. I know the radioshack near me sells them. Just ask them for a VGA extender.

I'll be officially switching from microsoft to mac this month and i cant wait.
after much thought as to whether i should buy a MBP or a MB i decided to go MB
I plan to use my MB as a desktop while im in my dorm. I already have a 17 inch HP LCD monitor that works perfectly fine
I know that in order to hook the monitor and the MB up i need to get the mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
My question is, how long is the actual cable for the adapter? The picture on the website looks kinda short and I don't know whether or not the cable will reach from the back of the monitor to macbook. Will the cable be long enough so my macbook can rest freely on my desk, a few inches in front of my monitor, or am I going to have to put the monitor on top of/in front of my macbook.

The cable on the adapter is only 2.5 inches long.
I wish that Apple would make a mini-DVI extension cable so I could get the big bulky adapter off of my desk.

Can't get the DVI to VGA adapter off my mini

I have my Intel Core Solo Mini listed on eBay, and the one problem I have is that when I put the VGA adapter on (the Apple included one) i apparently cranked it down too tight and I can't get it off. For 99% of the customers that wouldn't be problematic because they're using it on a standard monitor anyway. But I have had a question from at least one person who uses DVI so not being able to remove the adapter might be important. Anyone have any suggestions for another way to remove the adapter? I don't care if I damage the adapter-I'll replace it. but I'd like to remove it as a stumbling block to a buyer.

Cannot update mini displayport to vga adapter firmware 1.0

How come i cannot update the firmware,It says "The Updater could not find a Mini DisplayPort to Vga Adapter to update even though the adapter is already connected to my Philips HDTV.At first, the image in my philips hdtv is not clear as my secondary display plus my primary display which is my macbook aluminum has a black portion on the left and right of the screen about an inch wide so i did a little search on the net and it says i need to update the firmware so i downloaded it but i cant update it so im stuck at a crappy ,vivid image or display on my philips hdtv and a small image or display in my macbook everytime my display port is connected.I think my Philips HDTV is compatible with the display port because the image in my macbook can be mirrored but as i said the image is not clear really blurry but i maybe wrong so my second question is how do i know my Philips HDTV is compatible with my macbook as a secondary display?

I got the same error with mine back then as it already had the update when I bought it, even tho I did so BEFORE apple posted the firmware, so units leaving the factory already had the updates.
I agree with kmac1036, having recently run the update (or rather attempted to). You can't have a monitor connected to the adapter. It's also likely that your adapter is the newer version, even though the software download is being prompted. I had read on some tech blog that said the model # on the newer adapter has a -1 after it to indicate it's the revision with the updated firmware.

Can't connect MBP to LCD projector using DVI-TO-VGA adapter

I am trying to connect my MacBookPro to a Hitachi CP-X885 projector, which I normally connect an IBM Thinkpad to at 800x600 or 1024x768. I also use my MBP and the VGA adapter to connect to other LCD projectors and monitors (so my adapter works, as well as both systems, projector, cables, etc.). Problem is, that when I connect my MBP to the projector (I have to connect it via VGA as there is a 250 foot cable that goes to the front where the rear-projection takes place). When I do the "detect displays" nothing is detected. I also connected directly to the projector using a shorter cable, same thing (doesn't detect it). So, is the projector not supplying some type of signal to the output, that the MBP wants to see?)... is there a way to FORCE the MPB to have output? I know that if there is signal, it will display (we have LOTS of notebooks that display to the projector just fine, BUT have SEVERAL MBP's, and NONE of them will detect, and we've tried several adapters (just to be sure)... HELP!... is there some way to FORCE output from the MBP instead of it having to DETECT IT???

The URL you post does not answer David's original question. Also, it could potentially void his warranty because a firmware hack (and this is indeed a link to a "hack") is an unauthorized alteration to the hardware of his computer. ("Software" can only be installed on the hard drive and that hack is not installed on the hard drive, it's installed on the firmware on a chip inside the logic board.)

I know this topic have been asked a lot of times by different people who faced the issue in different way. However, i am unable to find an absolute solution to the problem i am facing currently.
My question is, can a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter works on MBP & iMac that have mini display port and not on those that have thunderbolt port??
I have a 3rd party made, Mini Display Port to VGA adapter that i have tried on 3 apple PC / laptop,
A MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini DispayPort, the adapter work with this laptop.
A iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) which comes with Mini Display Port, the adapter work with this PC too.
A MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) which comes with Thunderbolt port, the adapter does not work with this laptop. I have tried many solutions i can find on this forum and none helped.
The software is fully up-to-date as of 30 April 2013, running Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion).
Tried safe mode, does not helped.
Tried the boot up when monitor is already switched on procedure, does not helped.
In all cases, it was tested on the same external monitor. As my MBP was dual-booted using Bootcamp assistant 4.0, i also tried in windows-mode (windows 7) which didn't work too. In windows mode, the screen just keeps flickering while in mac-mode i get a light blue screen. In both cases, the external monitor shows nothing. The external monitor is a Compaq FP7317 monitor with native resolution 1280 x 1024 at 75.0 Hz.
All these trying have leave me very perplexed. From my research, the thunderbolt port is suppose to accept devices meant for mini display port. So how could an adapter that work on mini display ports, not work on a thunderbolt port? Can any expert enlighten me?

Problem solved. I picked up the MDP to VGA adapter and was able to use the monitors native res of 1920x1200 but the flicker and wavyness made it impossible to use. And yes the adapter had the current firmware. But what I discovered in the process was that in mirror mode I am unable to drive the monitor at optimum resolution. With that in mind I tried the MDP to HDMI adapter again, unchecking mirror mode, moving the Finder bar to the external display and SHAZAM. I have a rock solid display external display now running at 1920x1200 : )

Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
Note: When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
For optimal performance, you may need to adjust the video resolution or settings for your display. If your display offers an "auto detect" or "factory default" setting, you may be able to use these options to optimize video resolution and display.

Input signal out of range with HDMI to VGA adapter LE1901w

Hi!
Recently I acquired an LE1901w monitor to use as second screen. I'm trying to connect it to my Toshiba u925 using an HDMI to VGA adapter (because neither the monitor has a HDMI port nor the notebook has a VGA output).
I'm getting the message "input signal out of range" asking to change to 1440x920 @ 60Hz and it keeps showing until the monitor goes to sleep even when I change the settings as per requested.
I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and i'm using the default Windows monitor drivers for Windows 8.1
Any comment will be helpful

I understand that you are getting the message "Input Signal Out Of Range" and it is asking you to change to 1440x920 @ 60 Hz. I suspect this is a driver issue and you will need to ensure that your drivers are up to date on your computer. Just to be sure I would recommend if you could to move the HP LE1901W monitor to another computer and ensure that you do not have the problem there. If you do have it on another computer The issue you are experiencing appears to be a physical issue. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. I've bought an USB-to-ethernet-adapter and a minidisplay-port-to-VGA-adapter. But I can't use them at same time. At first, I plugged those two adapters and only the USB-to-ethernet worked. Tried restarting the mac then only VGA adapter worked.

I've emailed Prolific asking them about my problem. No reply as yet, and I'm not holding my breath! Do you know if there are any other posts on these boards relating to Prolific? Stupid question really - I'll just do a search...

VGA adapter trouble

Hello, folks. I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.2. Last year, I used a VGA adapter without problems to connect the notebook to a data show. However, in the past few weeks I have twice tried to connect it to other data shows, with no luck. I select the 'displays' option in the system preferences utility, and then I press Option and tell it to detect displays, to no avail.
Can anyone shed some light in the question?

I'm assuming you're using a MiniDisplayPort to VGA adapter. Have you tried another adapter? I've had a few MDP adapters of various sorts fail on me pretty quickly.

IPad 2, VGA adapter, iOS 6?

I need to use a projector in a meeting to have the participants view my iPad 2 screen. Looking at the description in the Apple store and the reviews posted there I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with.
1. According to The Apple Store description the VGA adapter will allow mirroring of whatever is on the iPad 2 screen to the projector. Is this indeed the case.
2. Several reviewers indicate the VGA adapter does not work with iOS 6. Anyone using the VGA adapter with iOS 6 successfully?

Lats year, one of our execs using an iPad2 successfully connected to our Epson PowerLite 83C projector, but after upgrading to IOS 6, the iPad gives us an error message saying the connected accessory was not supported. We had an HP LCD projector available, and his iPad sucecssfully connected to that model the first time. It seems to be hit or miss depending on the make and model of the projector involved, but I thnk it's safe to say that the upgrade to IOS 6 was the reason the Epson is no longer recognized.

VGA adapter problems

My LCD display went out again (it first did a year and a half after I bought it--warranteed, but not now). I can see everything with a flashlight, so I assume it is an inverter problem or problem with power supply to backlight?
My main question is how to get that darn VGA adapter to work...... I cannot, for the life of me, get it to work. Any suggestions?

Sounds like an inverter or maybe a wire through the chrome arm.
Can you make a brief list of what you've tried in attempting to make it work?
I've heard (but have not tried) that you could attach the adapter, a VGA or
compatible LCD display, and restart the computer to get it to mirror the
internal display automatically; but I don't know if that is true or hopeful
fiction brought about by some late night frustration.
Sorry, I really am not sure if the display would default in a mirror-on
status if attached to the computer via the adapter then restarted.
What I saw in a few Support documents did not tell me about that.
