I just got the new Macbook Air and was wondering if this adapter will work with the Thunderbolt port?

  • Mac mini 2009 . Mini DVI - VGA adapter with Monitor LG L1953S . No sleep .

    Hi ..
Yesterday i started in the fabulous world of MAC with my brand new MAC MINI . The problem that i have is that when the MAC mini is in stand-by the monitor is not in sleep state , and i get in the monitor screen " check cable " . So i have to disconnect manually the monitor when mac is in sleep state .
I am using mini-dvi to vga adapter (original mac ) .
    ¿What is the problem ?
    Thanks a lot ...

DVI-I provides the direct Analog signals needed to get VGA using a very simple adapter.
DsiplayPort (and its Mini variant) requires a converter to produce VGA or Dual-Link DVI, and the converter must be active/powered. There is a lot of logic in those converters. It may also have additional limitations.
In general, you should hook your highest resolution, most demanding display up with the DVI to VGA adapter. If running two Mini DisplayPort displays, ALL MiniDisplayPort converters must be active/powered.

  • Mini Display Port to VGA adapter with Mac Pro

Just as a word of advice if you're thinking of buying a new Mac Pro and planning on hooking it up to dual VGA displays at their native resolutions - don't.
Apple claim it will support 3 VGA displays. That might be true in a very loose sense but not in the sense that you'll actually be able to work with it.
My experience (all using same adapter, cables and monitors):
*Mac Pro - Dual screen set up*
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via DVI > VGA adapter - offers native resolution (1680x1050)
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - does not offer native resolution
*Mac Pro - Dual* screen set up*
    1 x Iiyama E2472HD connected via DVI - offers native resolution (1920x1080)
1 x Iiyama E2472HD connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - offers native resolution (1920x1080) but displays it pillar boxed (i.e. squashed)
*MacBook Pro - Dual screen set up*
    1 x laptop screen - fine (obviously)
1 x LG Flatron W2242S connected via Mini Display > VGA adapter - offers native res (1680x1050)
The conclusions being that despite having the exact same configuration in terms of adapters and monitors my £3k Mac Pro is incapable of doing what my MacBook Pro can.
I have spoken to Apple about this and they have admitted it is a limitation and suggested buying DVI monitors along with the Dual Link DVI adapter (£70).
    Not ideal.

  • Apple VGA Adapter, with iPad 1, OS 4.3 upgrade and Data Projector?

    Hi,
Our school is testing a number of iPads, and I will be buying a iPad 2 on the 25th March. I would like to test my iPad 1 with the Apple VGA Adapter and my data projector in my classroom. (All Apps)
In the past the Apple VGA adapter did not mirror the apps, however the Apple site now has a link to mirror technology with the VGA Adapter.
I could buy the Apple Digital AV Adaptor (HDMI) but would then need to find a HDMI to VGA convertor to connect to my data projector.
I would love to show my students Garage Band on my projector, but need the correct cables.
    Regards

I know this thread isnt that recent but the answer can be found when you look at the VGA adapter product page mention in an earlier post:
"The Apple VGA Adapter mirrors exactly what you see on iPad 2 so that everyone in the room can enjoy it.
The Apple VGA Adapter supports video out (only) for iPad, iPhone 4, or iPod touch (4th generation)."
So there you have it - only video out is supported on the original iPad / iPhone 4 / iPad Touch.

  • VGA adapter with iPad 3 creates yellow image on VD

An apple VGA adapter works fine with iPad2, but with iPad3 the image is too yellow.
I tried on two different iPad3. I repeat there is no problem with iPad2.
Is there a new generation of VGA adapters for iPad3 or is this a defective unit?

  • Lightning-VGA Adapter with IOS 6

I got an iPad for Christmas, and I ordered a VGA adapter to use with my school projecter. It worked fine the first few times, but after I upgraded to ios-6, it stopped working. It could be a coincidence, but I am wondering if there is some information out there about either problems with this combination or instructions for how to make it work. If not, could it be the adapter just suddenly failed?

It is possible that you're just having a coincidental failure of your adapter. These things do fail. I remember helping my son set up his MacBook Pro with an HDMI setup to a Hi Def TV. We were struggling for hours ready to throw each other out of his dorm room. Finally, I drove to a Big box place and bought a new HDMI cable. That fixed it.
Try to replace the VGA cable first. Then the VGA adapter. Then consider the full reset, since that requires you to restore from a backup (not horribly bad, but you will have to go through the whole process).

  • Lightning VGA Adapter with Retina iPad

I am having trouble getting a Lightning VGA Adapter working with an iOS 7 Retina iPad, although the same adapter/cable/display combo works perfectly with an iPhone 5.   When I attach the cable the display indicates a 1024x768 60 Hz input, but it stays blank.  The iPad then becomes unusably slow - each interaction taking several seconds.  When the adapter is removed, it goes back to normal.  Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I have fixed this myself.   The iPad was still on iOS 7.0, and the problem went away after updating to 7.02.  I guess there are some undocumented bug fixes in this release!

  • How do I use a VGA adapter with my MacBook Air when it has no mini display port?

I bought this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200968578311 to connect my MacBook Air to a monitor but it only works in a mini display port instead, and my MacBook Air doesn't have one. What kind of adapter can I buy instead? It looks like lots of adapters are wrongly described on eBay as fitting all Macs when they don't Help gratefully received!!

If your computer has a Thunderbolt port, plug it in. Otherwise, check what type of display port your computer has and get an adapter for it.

  • VGA adapter for touch and battery

I read that using VGA adapter with iPod Touch 4 apparently kills the battery in a very short time.
Anyone has experiences using VGA adapter with iPod?
I plan to use it for presentations, which usually take long time. If VGA really kills battery quickly I will stick to my laptop for presentations.

That is because of the DRM that is on the movie. VGA is good quality and can be copied.
You can either use a DIgital AV adopter since it can't be copied.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE
Or an adopter with less resolution than the VGA.
You can also display the movie on TV using the iPod and either the Apple iPod AV cable or the Universal Dock with an S-video and audio cable (see iPod: TV Out support for more information).

  • HT4108 Vga adapter for ipad not supported

I've been using the vga adapter with a projector, but of late I've not been able to use it with my ipad2.

    Hi nlrutt,
You do not mention whether your issue - a 30 pin to VGA adapter not working with your iPad - is with an Apple adapter or not. I will assume that it is and therefore it should function correctly.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
iOS: About Apple Digital AV Adapters
    Specifically -
    Troubleshooting
If you encounter an issue using the Apple Digital AV Adapter or VGA Adapter:
Disconnect and reconnect the adapter from the iOS device and display.
Connect directly to the TV, projector, or external display using a known-good VGA or HDMI cable.
Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters.
Note that accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signal to other video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) are not supported.
Ensure that you are using the latest version of iOS. Some Apple Digital AV Adapters require iOS 5.1 or later.
Note: When using an Apple Digital AV Adapter manufactured before early 2012 with iPad (3rd generation), you may see the "This accessory is not supported" alert. Dismissing the alert will allow you to use the adapter.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • IPad VGA adapter, picture is dull & pink connected to my projector

I'm having a problem with my VGA connector, and I desperately need a fresh point of view in this issue.
When I connect my iPad to my projector, the picture has a dull reddish, pinkish hue to it. This is true for everything- video app, Netflix, slideshows, etc.
    connection path:
    IPad -> Dock/VGA plug -> VGA cable -> VGA to DVI-A adapter -> Projector DVI-I input (both DVI-A and D)
When I remove my projector and DVI-I adapter from the equation, and plug the VGA cable into a computer monitor, everything looks great. Also, I've tried replacing my iPad in the equation with other computers that have a VGA output, and they all work with the DVI-A adapter and the projector.
So far, my assumption was that something was going on with the iPad and the DVI-A adapter, but I've tried three different adapters, and I get the same results.
    I'm completely stumped. Any ideas?

Late reply I know, but I was googling for iPhone pink VGA and landed here. I was curious if I was the only one. I had a chance to try an iPhone and VGA adapter with a number of displays and I have to say.... 16:9 VGA output on the iPhone blows chunks.
On a HP 23" display, it was totally confused about the resolution (it thought it was 1152*720) and tried to display it inset in a 1920*1080 display.... shifted badly to the right.
A Sony XBR LCD TV displayed it shifted badly up and to the left. Had to max out all video position controls to get it back to the middle.
A TV-One Scaler displayed everything in a dull pink, but at was centered properly on the display.
The only one that got it right was a Dell 4:3 LCD display. However the phone was putting out 1024*768, not 1280*720.
I don't think 16:9 output on the iPhone 4 was tested much.... if at all.

  • IPad 2, VGA adapter, iOS 6?

I need to use a projector in a meeting to have the participants view my iPad 2 screen. Looking at the description in the Apple store and the reviews posted there I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with.
    1. According to The Apple Store description the VGA adapter will allow mirroring of whatever is on the iPad 2 screen to the projector. Is this indeed the case.
    2. Several reviewers indicate the VGA adapter does not work with iOS 6. Anyone using the VGA adapter with iOS 6 successfully?
    Tanks,
    Ralph

Lats year, one of our execs using an iPad2 successfully connected to our Epson PowerLite 83C projector, but after upgrading to IOS 6, the iPad gives us an error message saying the connected accessory was not supported. We had an HP LCD projector available, and his iPad sucecssfully connected to that model the first time. It seems to be hit or miss depending on the make and model of the projector involved, but I thnk it's safe to say that the upgrade to IOS  6 was the reason the Epson is no longer recognized.

  • Lightning to VGA adapter doesn't work with Ipad Air

I have a Lightning to VGA adapter that I want to use with my Ipad Air and pc screen. When I connect it with my Ipad and the screen, on my ipad the blue bar appears but I don't get anything on my pc screen. I dit the same with my iphone 6 and that works perfect. Any idea what the problem could be?
    Both devices has IOS 8.3.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem to blueskoi. I have a lightning to HDMI Connector which no longer works on my iPad Air, however it still works fine on my wife's iPad 4.
The only difference I can find is that her iPad hasn't been updated to IOS 8.3, whereas my iPad Air has.
Is anybody else experiencing the same problem, or am I missing something?
I have done a full settings reset on my Air but that didn't resolve it.  I get the blue bar at the top of the screen and my TV Screen flashes, but then no signal appears,
Any help would be most gratefully received.
    Regards
    Paul

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

  • Is there a way to predict which video projectors will not work with the 2012 MacBook Air using the Mini-display to VGA adapter?

I recently upgraded from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA due to the larger capacity SSD.  The 2011 MBA running Lion and Mountain Lion worked with every video projector for lectures.  The new 2012 MBA is hit or miss with video projectors.  It is not an adapter problem.  I have multiple Apple mini-display to VGA adapters with the latest firmware.  They all work just fine with the 2011 MBA. Re-starting the 2012 MBA with the adapter and projector connected has not helped.
It it not acceptable to have a laptop that works with projectors some of the time.  Apple is aware of the problem.  Is the only choice to go back to the 2011 MBA?
    RC

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA.  The details of the update include:  Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically.  Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.
    Thank you Apple.
