  • I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!

I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!  Further info:  I am a complete newbie to Mac.  Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs.  Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back)  with the F4 function key.  While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it.  Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on.  So Idragged it over to display in the centre.  But that's all that's there.  And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor.  There is some wierd disconnect.  I'm sure it is just a setting thing.  Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,
Let me know if this worked for you.

I have purchased VGA adaptor & HDMI adaptor to connect ipAd1 to a TV - it will not.  Help please

Only certain apps that had this feature added will show from an original iPad to a video out - whether VGA or HDMI. It does not have true mirroring, like the iPad2 does.

  • The mini vga adaptor doesn't recognize the display help?

i am unable to connect my macbook pro to the projector through the mini vga adaptor .it shows a blue screen on connecting and then nothing happens.please suggest step by step procedure to get the display . the projector is of sony.any setting changes are needed pls suggest.

Check your port for any dirt or debris. Check your system prferences, for the correct sttings
    Try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

  • Mac mini with Apple Mini Display to VGA adaptor

    Hello,
I have just purchased a new i5 mac mini, and have started to use it with an HDMI TV. This is great, but I really want to go back to using just my VGA monitor, which is an LGFlatron W2243S.
So, today, with the HDMI plugged in, I put a Apple Mini Display Port to VGA adaptor into the back of the mac mini, hooked it up to the monitor and great. The monitor was recognised, and it actually appeared as a second display.
But then, I pulled out the HDMI lead, and that was the start of the trouble. I now cannot get the LG monitor to work - instead it goes into power saving mode. I have proven the VGA cable, and also noted that the display settings do detect the monitor, but it just keeps going into power saving mode.
Reading on the internet I've found talk of the power from the mini display port being a possible problem.
At the moment then, the HDMI is still plugged in. Any advice on any settings I should be using to get the mini display -> VGA adaptor to work with the monitor? It is obviously working in some form (a) because I can't believe apple would continue to sell a dud product and (b) because it did occur briefly as a second monitor.

I've got some more information which I'm hoping might enable someone somewhere to help!!
So, I've just connected up the monitor again, with success. Both the HDMI and VGA monitor as mirrorred displays.
Then, I removed the HDMI connection, and the VGA monitor stayed on. I was also able to change the resolution successfully on the VGA monitor.
Then I restarted the system. The VGA monitor went into standby and wouldn't wake up from power saving mode (therefore was not able to see the password screen).
Plugged the HDMI back in (as well as the VGA) and restarted. Password screen came up on the HDMI screen. OS started up as normal, then the VGA screen came back to life on mirrored display.
So there is some level of success occuring now, except on restart. It seems as once the OS loads, it sends the signal to the VGA to switch on, but not on the password screen. Note that I do not want the HDMI screen connected - just the VGA. It's really a TV and I want to use it elsewhere.
I also downloaded the DP to VGA firmware update, but even with everything plugged in (and ironically with the VGA on and working!) it says that it cannot find a DP to VGA adaptor!!
This all suggests to me that things work, but that there's something I'm not quite doing right somewhere. My PC connects to the VGA monitor fine, and comes on at power up.
    Thanks in hope.

  • Using second display via eMac's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor

    Hi,
I've got a 19inch widescreen display from Acer, model no. AL1916W. I have apple's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor and have connected the second display to the point where it mirrors the screen on my eMac, however I don't want it to do this.
What I had intended is that the second display would act as an extension of my eMacs screen, so I can drag windows across for extra space. Is this possible with the eMac?
Put more specifically, I want to be able to put logic's main (arrange) window on the Acer widescreen, and then have whatever else on the eMacs screen? Is there a workaround to do this?
    help much appreciated,
    Toby

    Hi,
It's funny you should send me that link, I actually found that a couple of hours after posting this and tried it. It worked perfectly, I now have the widescreen running in it's native resolution and working as a separate screen which I can drag stuff in and out of. I came back on here to mark the question as 'answered' but I couldn't find how.
    thanks for your help,
    Toby

  • Mac Mini shows blue or pink tint using DVI to VGA adaptor on 800x600 HDTV

My new Mac Mini won't retain the color settings for this TV/Monitor that is connected via the DVI to VGA adaptor. I've tried to find the display using the Mac utility. I finally got the Mac to create a color profile for the TV by plugging a USB cable from the TV to the Mac, while the VGA cable was also connected. The Mac displayed a new color profile called RCA/ProScan (the TV brand), and the colors looked acceptable. I then saved that color profile. The monitor would then revert to a very blue tint, or a very pink tint without notice. I thought it might have been when I disconnected the USB cable, or when I re-booted the Mac Mini, but I can't detect a cause & effect pattern. I might try to connect the TV using a DVI to S-Video adaptor instead of VGA, but I don't know if it will help. Can someone help? Thanks.

Make sure it isn't a simple cabling problem. Check all the connections and tighten down the thumb screws. The mini is prone to a poor video connection and you need to make sure the video cables are tightly attached.

  • I need to connect a computer monitor to my MacBook Pro but have found that when using the mini display port to VGA adaptor the screen display on my macbook is very small font. Please what do I do to correct this?

I need to connect a computer monitor to my mac book pro, using a mini display port to VGA adaptor. But have experienced a drastic reduction in font size on my
Mac screen even before I have managed to check the result on the monitor screen. Please how do I compensate for this and restore my mac screen appearance?

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Resetting your computer's PRAM should restore your Macbook Pro's screen appearance.

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • RE: Video problems after disconnecting DVI to VGA adaptor...

I was playing a game (C&C Generals) the other day on Vista with an external monitor connected via the DVI to VGA adaptor. During the game, I decided to move my MBP so I disconnected the adaptor. The screen started flickering and I had to reset the MBP. After resetting, I tried to re-launch the game, but an error popped up saying that I don't have DirectX 8.1 or greater (actually, I have DirectX 10) or don't have a supported video card (I have Nvidia 8600 GT). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Bootcamp drivers and resetting my PRAM, to no avail. Any ideas? I tested my MBP on other games (e.g. Company of Heroes) and it works fine -- the only time the video card gives me trouble is when I try to launch C&C Generals!
    Thanks for any help!

I recently upgrade to a macbook pro after my macbook crashed, when I got it home I went to plug in my DVI to VGA cable to find out the port had been changed and i needed to purchase an other one for my new mac. Spent the 20 buck all over again got it home plugged it in and no image on my TV. It seems you need to be a computer scientist to get this to work. Why was this port changed to something that does not work when the previous on worked so perfectly just plug and play????????
Yes blaming your MBP is your first step, but completely illogical. Have you checked the System Preferences>Display? Have you set it up correctly?
Plug and Play, does not mean that an ancient monitor (anything on VGA is several generations ago) will automatically take over your MBP to create the perfect profile. You need to fix things.

  • HP Revolve 810 using DisplayPort to VGA adaptor to connect to projector

I have a HP Revolve 810 and often use a DisplayPort to VGA adaptor to connect to a projector. Sometimes the graphics card recognises the projector immediately, sometimes I have to log out of windows and then log back in again and sometimes I have to restart the computer before it recognises the external display.
Is there a fix for this problem? I'm using a DisplayPort to VGA adaptor provided by HP.

  • Understanding iPAD VGA adaptors

    Hi All,
I got into a very embarrasing situation where we wanted to show an ipad app to 40 participants which did not work.  I was using the apple VGA adaptor.
I tried it with iPAD1 and it did not work at all and then I tried it with an iPAD2 and it works only 2 out of 10 times.
I will need to do a roadshow where I will need to use my iPAD1 to display the app over the LCD projectors over VGA and wanted to find if there is a possibility to make it work flawlessly.  Please let me know if there are any limitations with iPAD1 and if it will flawlessly with iPAD2 or iPAD3.
    Please help.
    Thanks

The ipad1 will only show apps that are specifically designed for VGA display.
The newer iPads should show all apps through a VGA display, except for some where that capability was deliberately removed by the developer (generally media providers).

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,
    RSR

iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657?viewlocale=en_US
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
