VGA Display Adapter to HDTV

I purchased a VGA display adapter from Apple. I want to connect my iBook to a HDTV with HDMI interface. What cable do I need to connect the end of the adapter which appears to be a serial connector to the HDTV? Thanks for any assistance.

I would use the Apple mini-DVI to DVI adapter and then get a DVIU to HDMI cable from a local retailer. They are also available online from a ton of places - and probably at a lot lower price.
There really is no need to involve VGA when you would need another adapter to go from VGA to DVI, then the cable to go from DVI to HDMI. I would take that adapter to your local Apple Store and see if they would do an exchange for you.

  • Mini DisplayPort to DVI + DVI to VGA Display Adapter, will it work?

    Hi,
I have a MBP, and I have just purchased an apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
I want to connect it to a VGA port.
Can I buy an Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter and connect it to the connector above.
Will that work? Any one with experience who could advise me on that?
    Thanks.

This does not work, because the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter has a DVI-D port that transmits only digital signals. VGA uses analog signals.

  • VGA Display Adapter doesn't fit

I have a Intel Core 2 Duo imac and recently order/received the apple VGA Display Adapter-Gen ACCS to hook up another monitor. The problem is, it doesn't fit in my imac. The Apple store specifically says it is designed for Intel Core 2 Duo. What is the problem? Do I need another device to hook my 2nd monitor up?

    you need this adapter: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9320G/A
make sure you are plugging in the correct way.
I beleive you have the first gen Aluminum, correct? - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP16

  • HP Slate 500 and HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA)

The specifications page for the HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter (NP031AA) (Link) doesn't list the HP Slate 500 as a compatible device in the campatible products list (Link).
Do these two products work together?
What VGA resolutions can I project using this cominbation of products?  Am I limited to 1024x600? or 1024x768? or does it support displaying higher resolutions?
I'm thinking about making a purchase but I don't want to get the adapater if it isn't going to work.
    Thanks,

Yes an HDMI to VGA adapter will work fine. Keep in mind it will not carry audio but neither did your old vga connection so I am assuming it is not a problem.
You would find an HDMI to VGA at any Best Buy or you can order on one amazon.com such as here:
    http://www.amazon.com/BestDealUSA-Adapter-Converter-Laptop-NoteBook/dp/B007PLL4CK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8...
Connect the projector and use the Windows key at the lower left of the keyboard and the p key at the same time and it brings up a "projector" console that lets you easily switch from laptop to projector to laptop + projector.

  • VGA Display Adapter; Extended Desktop?

I have a iMac G5 (iSight) and run the latest version of Mac OS X Leopard. If I buy a "VGA Display Adapter" will I be able to use my spare VGA display to extend my desktop? Or is the adapter strictly for mirroring?

Extending the desktop is disabled in firmware on an eMac, iBook, and PowerPC iMac.

  • How do I connect a Apple VGA Display Adapter to my iMac 2 GHz Intel Core Du

I can connect the PC VGA side of the adapter to my external flatscreen monitor though for some reason can't attach the mini-DVI to the back of my iMac. The connection just doesn't fit which is odd since they both carry the same logo. I looked online to see if I needed a special cable to connect the adapter to the back of my iMac with no such luck. What do I do?

I understand your caution, but the symbol next to your Intel-based iMac's mini-DVI port designates the port as a display connection, while not specifying the exact type of display connection.
I can confirm that the same symbol that you see next to your Intel-based iMac's mini-DVI port is also seen next to mini-VGA ports on iMac G5 models as well as on iBook G4's.
The mini-DVI video display connector that you need is a 32-pin rectangular connector, while the mini-VGA connector that you have is a 14-pin rectangular connector. Looking inside each, it's possible to count the pins. If there were accurate external photos not too small, you could tell there's a difference between the two adapters by comparing the shape of the mini ends. Without side by side display, however, they are apparently easily confused, as an Apple Store employee once sold me the wrong one for my iBook.
The M9320G/A adapter you need won't connect to the M8639G/A adapter you have, but is to be used instead of it, as it will connect to the Mini-DVI port of your Intel-based iMac (as well as the MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4). The Intel-based iMacs don't have a mini-VGA port.
Matching your proposed connection, the July 11 Apple Store review by "MV" of the M9320G/A adapter said: "mini-DVI into the back of my Imac, plugged the VGA into a VGA cord...".
Your M8639G/A adapter connects only to the mini-VGA port on the eMac, iMac G5, 12-inch PowerBook G4, or iBook, but will not connect to any Intel-based iMac port.

  • Belkin Mini Display Port to HDTV not working anymore with MBP

I have a MBP V 10.7.5 and I was using a Belkin Mini Display Port to HDTV. This was working perfectly a few months ago and now when I try to connect, My Mac screen will turn blue for a minute but the TV will read "No Signal". There is nothing wrong with the cord and I'm afraid that an update on my computer messed things up. Does anyone have any idea whats wrong or how I can fix this without getting a new cord? Thanks!

    Hello,
Using the VGA connector, what resolution is set on the Monitor?
Is there any input choices on the Monitor for port or source?

  • HT3382 I have an early 2006 Mac Mini and need to connect it to a VGA display.  What connector should I use?

I have an early 2006 intel core solo Mac Mini (locted in India) and need to connect it to a VGA display.  I have looked at the support articles but can't figure out what adapter to use.

There was a DVI to VGA adapter included with the early 2006 mini.  The one that I have looks like this
You should be able to buy one, although it's not currently listed in the US Apple online store.

  • I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Imac does not detect external vga display

Please help with connecting external vga display to an imac 21.5'', late 2012, OS X 10.8.5 via Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
I have connected an external monitor (Fujitsu Siemens) to the thunderbolt port of the imac using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter. The imac does not detect the external monitor. I have followed all instructions and suggestions I could find at Apple Support Communities without success.
The monitor is in perfectly good working order as it has no problem connecting and performing flawlessly with a dell windows laptop. The imac, connected via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to the D-Sub connector of a Samsung smart TV, also worked perfectly.
To add insult to injury, occasionally, when restarting the iMac with the external vga display connected and powered on, the iMac screen starts intermittently turning blue for a brief second or so and resuming back to normal. The frequency of 'blueing' is once in 2-3 seconds. This particular rather disturbing problem, luckily ceases when the external display is switched off.
Any advice and help with resolving the above connection problems will be gratefully appreciated.
    Thank you

I am having the same issue.  Hope Apple can fix this soon!!!

  • Macbook dual VGA display output

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to use 2 VGA displays in extended desktop mode with my Macbook. I currently use my MacBook (with lid open) with a 21" external display, but just found an old 18" monitor which I would also like to use. I am willing to use these 2 displays with my MacBook lid closed.
Is it possible to use this setup with a VGA splitter cable perhaps, or do I need to buy a USB to VGA cable/adapter (and if so, can you recommend one)?
    Thanks!
    Adam

In that case, is there any USB to VGA adapter for mac that you can recommend? I believe they have their own display cards in them.
    Thanks
    Adam

  • Using VGA display without EDID possible?

    Hello,
I plan to buy a Mac mini in the near future but I have a rather specific concern about the display connectivity in advance:
Is it possible to use an analogue VGA display that doesn't deliver any EDID/DDC ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDID ) with the current Mac mini via the Display Port-VGA adapter.
I'm asking this because a PC with nVidia GF9400 onboard graphics and Windows 7 or Vista immediately turns off the VGA signal when the OS is completely booted.
I have a MBP (4,1/Early '08) and could use the display in question with the DVI-VGA adapter after manually setting the correct resulution and refresh rate.
Can I safely assume that the Mac mini's GF 320M behaves the same way with the Display Port-VGA adapter? I don't have any device with a display port output yet so I can't really test it myself.
There's a concerning customer comment to the Display Port-VGA adapter in the German Apple Online Store stating that this customer couldn't connect a Samsung LCD TV with the adapter.
Thank you very much for the help!

Thanks for the tool tip. Seems like the display has EDID after all:

anybody out there know where I can get/buy a display adapter for a late-2006 Intel powered iMac G5? Want to hook up my computer to my new HDTV but no HDMI ports on G5.

  • Will the new mac pro support a vga display thru the thunderbolt expansion?

We are getting ready to purchase mac pro, but we need to drive a small vga display from thunderbolt.  Is this possible, and will it use the mini-display to VGA adaptor?

Of course. Thunderbolt (and Thunderbolt 2) supports Mini DisplayPort adapters to connect external displays, so get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a VGA cable to connect the Mac Pro to the external display. Image will start showing in the external display after connecting it.
