VGA Display problem on Mac 10.6.8

I have Mac 10.6.8 and I'm trying to play a powerpoint slideshow on a tv. The VGA cable is setup but whenever I try to start slideshow both screens go blue and I have to restart my computer. This also happened when I tried to change the display settings on my VGA profile in Displays. I'm assuming it is a display preference setting. Help! Urgent!
Thanks, Elaine

  • Catastrophic Display Problems on Mac Pro 6,1

    Hello everyone,
I have really frustrating problem with my new MacPro Late 2013. It's the 3,7 GHz Xeon E5, 12GB ECC RAM, Dual D300, 256GB SSD.
The thing is, I want to use more than one monitor. So I have two BenQ 21,5'' 1080p monitors, an Iiyama 26'' ProLite E2607WSD 1920x1200 and a 55'' Sony LED TV (1080p).
I just want to use the two BenQs but this is not possible! When I plug them in and start the Mac it won't come up. So I get on one monitor white, or sometimes colored stripes formed in about 20 "boxes". On the other monitor I got the Apple Logo from the boot screen and a bit of the Log-In Screen. Actually the whole systems crashes when turning from the boot to the log-in screen. In fact, I am not able to use the computer. It freezes completely. I just can plug out the second monitor and restart the whole thing. With one monitor, it doesnt matter which, is it working. It also doesnt matter which monitors are plugged in (TV or the 26''). On all the screens comes the same issue. The interesting thing is that it was working on OS X 10.9.2. Since the update to 10.9.4 everything is messed up! The Apple Care Support is not able to do anything about it which is like a joke at a 3.000 EUR machine... However the displays are connected via HDMI and the original Apple DVI to Thunderbolt Adapter. I've tried to connect both monitors via two DVI->Thunderbolt or VGA->Thunderbolt which doesnt effect anything.
I changed the computer because I thought the hardware got an issue. The fact is, the second MacPro features the exact same problem.
I have no backups to restore 10.9.2, I also made several new clean installations of 10.9.4.
In this condition the computer is more or less not useable.
I hope someone has a solution for that problem.
    Thank You

That happens sometimes. Resetting the SMC usually resolves the fan problem unless it is a hardware problem.

  • I can't get my mac mini mid 2011 to connect to a manual vga screen switcher connected to an analogue vga display

    Hey,
I have a mid 2011 mac mini with a dual intel core i5 processor and 8gb of crucial 1333mhz ddr3 ram, running mac os 10.8.3, the latest version of Mountain Lion.
I am trying to use it with an old neqview analog vga screen.  Because I want to use it alongside my old Windows XP PC, I bought a manual vga screen switcher
    off amazon.
The mac mini is working fine on my LG 32'' TV via a simple HDMI to HDMI cable connection.
To see if all the cables were working (Mini DisplayPort ---> VGA in ---> VGA to VGA ---> NeqView Monitor) I disconnected my Windows PC VGA from the VGA port of the NeqView display and plugged in the final VGA socket in the conversion.  I securely fastened the VGA socket in and tried turning on my mac.
The apple startup sound could be heard from the speakers, but , after 3 minutes (usual boot time is about 1min 3secs) it still hadn't displayed on the screen, even though the keyboard was working.
Eventually, after several reboots, I managed to get it to work.  Unfortunately, I accidentally jogged the cable, and the screen went black again.
Now knowing that it COULD work, I took my manual VGA screen switcher and plugged the end of the VGA to VGA cable into that.  I then plugged the screen switcher into the NeqView monitor and I also plugged the Windows XP computer into the second slot for the screen switcher.  When I clicked on the appropriate letter for the Windows computer it booted up fine, however, even after at least 6 retries, turning on and off electricity, trying to download drivers, etc. the mac simply would not work.  I have securely fastened, double and triple checked, all the cables, however it will not work.
I know that both the screen switcher and the display are working because they both worked together with the windows XP computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, the sooner the better.
    Sorry for the long post.
    Thanks in advance.

  • HT3382 I have an early 2006 Mac Mini and need to connect it to a VGA display.  What connector should I use?

I have an early 2006 intel core solo Mac Mini (locted in India) and need to connect it to a VGA display.  I have looked at the support articles but can't figure out what adapter to use.

There was a DVI to VGA adapter included with the early 2006 mini.  The one that I have looks like this
You should be able to buy one, although it's not currently listed in the US Apple online store.

  • Display Problem with my Mac Pro and LG Flatron Wide Monitor in Mountain Lion

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Pro has display problems with my LG Flatron display.  The image is displayed with a black bar on the right and on the bottom.  And the left side of the content is not visible.  I tried every resolution available in the Display System Preferences, they are different in terms of how big the black bars are, and what part is not visible, but none of them are correct.  I held down the option key to try to detect displays or switch to resolutions that are not normally available.  When I restart the image is lined up with the display, but if the display ever goes to sleep or gets turned off, the image reverts to being off center, and the only way I can get it back is to restart...  The interesting thing is that this monitor works fine with the same machine if I reboot using BootCamp into Windows 7.  The Monitor also works fine, connecting the same connector to a Mac Mini, although that mac mini is running 10.6 and not Mountain Lion.  I've reset the SMC and restarted countless times, I don't see any other levers to pull or things to try...

That card is for a PC it may not give you Startup and Option-Boot screens.
The 7950 "Mac Edition" card has a very distinctive look:

  • Will the new mac pro support a vga display thru the thunderbolt expansion?

We are getting ready to purchase mac pro, but we need to drive a small vga display from thunderbolt.  Is this possible, and will it use the mini-display to VGA adaptor?

Of course. Thunderbolt (and Thunderbolt 2) supports Mini DisplayPort adapters to connect external displays, so get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a VGA cable to connect the Mac Pro to the external display. Image will start showing in the external display after connecting it.

  • Mac Display problems

    Hi,
We are creating an app and having some display problems that
only seems to be affecting OSX browsers. We have a custom component
that is based on a canvas. We dynamically add several of these
components to other display components at runtime ( through
actionscript by calling addChild usually ). Everything displays
fine on Windows browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari) but when loading it
in firefox or safari on osx, all we see is a blank space where the
component should be visible. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I'm not sure that I can send a link, corporate web app and
    all...
but it's very puzzling, I don't believe it is due to render
times, reports say it just never displays. I might have to try and
track down a mac development machine for a few days of testing as I
don't have a mac locally and makes it a real pain in the neck to
debug since I don't even know what I'm looking for. I thought I
would post here and see if anyone else has ever encountered
    anything even remotely similar.
    Thanks

  • Older intel mac display problems (x1600)

My mom has an intel imac (the version before the black/aluminum kind) and it had very minor display issues with Tiger (very infrequent horizontal lines). They were all resolved with further point releases of Tiger.
After upgrading to Leopard she has had numerous problems, all revolving around frequent and numerous horizontal lines. They sometimes get so bad that the current window is almost completely obscured.
Here is a flickr set of images that show the problem and the display specs. I know that was happening to users with newer imacs and x1900s, is this happening to other x1600 users?
Any ideas on what is going on? I told her to call apple, but her warranty has run out and she feels uncomfortable calling because she is not a technical person (exactly why I told her to get a mac—I have egg on my face now). Should she downgrade? Can this be a hardware problem?

Hi everyone, i have bought an iMac 20 with a core 2 duo 1 GB ram and an ATI x1600 (a white one, because the screen quality is better than the new iMac 20 alu)
and i've some display problems. First i was on Tiger and i didn't noticed any problems but as leopard came out i rapidly upgraded to it and then came problems with the display.
To make short, the lower part of my screen is lagging anormaly. When i drag a window or even the dock's animations are slower. And it doesn't occur on the upper part of my screen, windows can be dragged smoothly, there is no lag even if the CPU is working at 100% (like on every normal mac...).
I've noticed there is a little bump when i'm dragging a windows from the top to the bottom of the screen, it's like the window enter another area.
I've of course checked a lot of boards on the www, so i've tried a lot of things, my card ATI X1600 128mo PCIe is fully working with core image and quartz extreme.
Some people said to wait that spotlight finished to index, but it's done and the problems are still there.
    Time machine is off
I don't use coverflow and i've tried it, it doesn't change anything.
I've also re-installed Tiger and, wo-ow the problem is still there, especially when all is up to date.
It seems that, the problem come from the last firmware update, i don't know if this firmware update was done for improving compatibility with bootcamp or leopard but for me it has added this strange display behavior.
I've also tried to turn off quartz extreme, and it's even worst, worst on the lower part again but no changes on the upper, everything run smoothly.
As i didn't noticed it when i used my mac for the first days (on Tiger and without the firmware update) and on windows with bootcamp there is still no display problems at all, i keep thinking it's not an hardware problem but a software (firmware, display on Mac osX) problem.
It should be solved by a new firmware or Mac os upgrade until then i have to do with it.
By the way, does anyone knows if there's a way for downgrading the gpu firmware ? (when i try, it say that i didn't need it), it's the only thing that i havent tried.
Thanks in advance, and i beg your pardon for my pittyfull frenglish :s

  • Two Dynadocks on Mac - two VGA displays simultaneously?

    I own two Dynadocks: PA3542EY1PRP and PA3541EY1PRP.
They are connected to iMac 21 "Snow Leopard".
All USB ports work but I can not run two VGA displays simultaneously.
If one works, the other does not work.
    Drivers Display Links are updated.
    Surely there is a conflict.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your answer. I also wrote to Display Link forum. Here is their reply (It's not the answer I was hoping for...):
    +Hi+
+I think these were the first dynadocks Toshiba released. When manufacturing them, they managed to program them all with the same serial number - all zeros. This means multiple devices cannot be distinguished on the USB bus, so our software can only communicate with one dock at a time.+
+Unfortunately this is a limitation and means only one of this first generation dynadock can be used at a time. Toshiba fixed this in their later dynadocks that are sold now.+
+And no - there is no way for a user to reprogram the serial number. It has to be done in the factory.+

  • IMac screen suddenly recognizes VGA display that isn't there? Big problems

    Hello:
My dad was using his iMac G5 when the display went to a blue screen (detected an external display) and formatted to take up a small amount (10-12 inches) of the 17" screen. As I was writing this, the detect display blue screen again flashed and returned to normal.
Under display prefs, it listed a VGA display. However, there isn't even an adapter in the adapter port. Does anyone know what is going on here? I live several hundred miles away and it just so happens that I was here for the weekend. I would like to resolve this asap.
    No AppleCare.
    Thanks,
    Tyler

Sorry to chime in without a solution, only another query along the same lines. I have a co-worker who's imac (24" 2.33 intel) sometimes starts up thinking that there's a second smaller display connected. The first time this happened, the dock didn't show up (she had it set along the right-hand side, it was apparently on the "other" screen), she restarted and it would then show up. A couple of days ago I was doing some updates, restarted, and the dock disappeared again. I noticed that the mouse fully disappeared off the right side. Having seen this behavior when two displays were connected in the past, I went to the display preferences panel and it registered two screens, the main one and a much smaller one on the right side. I clicked the "detect displays" button, which reset it correctly back to a single monitor, thinking issue solved. But this morning the same issue occurred. Easy to fix, granted, but I was hoping there might be a more permanent solution? I don't think there's a single displays preferences file that might be replaced, and I'd just as soon not mess around with pitching the full system preferences file unless that'd be the only solution...
Thanksmuch in advance, and have a good one!

  • Snow Leopard killed my vga displays!!

This is by far the most weird problem I have ever encountered after upgrading to a new OS.
I run a company where we have something like 15 different Macs. Mostly Intel, but different ages, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, iMacs, Mac Mini etc.
A couple of days ago I wanted to upgrade one of the Mac Pros to Snow Leopard. It's an early 2008 3.1 with ATI hd 2600 graphics. I wanted to do a clean install, but instead of backing up everything from the system drive, I pulled it out and put in a new clean one. This way I could retrieve the data from the old drive when I need it through a USB docking station or something.
Installation went by fast and without any problems what so ever.
But first thing I noticed when the first bootup was completed was that the resolution of my monitors were suddenly completely wrong. I have two Samsung Syncmaster 2343nw monitors connected through vga, and they have always been detected and automatically been set to the correct resolution in the display preferences dialog by the old Leopard. I have around 9 of these monitors working as dual displays on Leopard machines, and a few working as extra external monitors for a couple of Macbook Pros running both Snow Leopard and Leopard. They are all connected via an dvi to vga converter and they always get detected correctly as "Syncmaster" in Display preferences.
But suddenly now, they just show up as "VGA Monitor" in Display preferences.
After fighting with this for a couple of hours trying all the suggested workarounds I could find, zapping PRAM deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist changing the cables and so on, I finaly gave up. Fortunately I didn't overwrite the old Leopard installation so of cause I could just swap the drives back and everything should be dandy after booting back into the old Leopard install.
But **** no! Now the resolution was equally messed up in Leopard! And none of the two monitors were detected as "Syncmaster" in display pref. Now they only show up as "VGA Monitor" as they did in Snow. ***?? How can an OS mess with a monitors plug 'n' play capabilities?
I then tried the obvious which was to try and reset the monitors, remove power from them, Zap the PRAM again. I even tried a different graphics card (that didn't work in this machine) but what ever I did, the monitors where no longer detectable by the OS.
Next step was to take some identical monitors from a different machine. And yes, they where detected by Leopard on the problem machine. Since I couldn't believe that Snow had actually ruined the other two monitors I booted back into Snow hooping that it would now detect these other identical monitors. But no, same problem. Back to Leopard, and once again now suddenly these couldn't be detected by Leopard either.
I have since tried these monitors on all the other Macs I have in the company, and only one machine with an nVidia card is able to detect them correctly as Syncmaster. But none the less also this machine isn't able to see the monitors native resolution thus making it impossible to select the right setting for the monitor.
So now I have 4 monitors that's virtually unusable after being in contact
I have read a lot about people who who suddenly can't use their secondary monitor after upgrading to Snow Leopard and that Apple is aware of this, and that 10.6.4 should address this problem when we finally get some new graphic drivers. But I haven't heard about anybody who's monitor lost it's plug 'n' play capabilities after being in contact with Snow Leopard.
But maybe someone here has had any similar experience? Maybe somebody else has had luck with upgrading a dual vga monitor system to Snow Leopard? I would love to get some ideas on what happened since these monitors doesn't really work anymore on any computer.
    Thanks!

Hmm... I know that the screens native refresh rate is at 60 Hz and the resolution is 2048 x 1152. I'm unable to check it out now but I'm pretty sure I can't select 60Hz. They only have VGA connectors (the same as D-Sub I guess?) And the closest I can get to the right resolution is 1920x 1280 (or maybe it's 1200, not sure) which looks almost right, but then again not, and a whole lot more fuzzy than it used to be.
On some machines the displays are detected as "Display" and on others "VGA monitor" or "VGA display". It's supposed to detect as "Syncmaster". Nothing changes if I press "Detect". I've only tried on machines running 10.5.8, and one brand new iMac running 10.6.3 through a display port to vga converter.
But thanks for link to the toms article. I'll give it a read

  • How to connect Cinema Display A1081 to Mac Mini 2009

This may seem an obvious question but the problem is that I am currently abroad, having bought a Mac Mini to replace my very old PowerMac G4, so I cant check if the cable that currently connects the old machine to my Cinema Display will also fit into the new Mac Mini.
Any help or suggestions are gratefully received.

Just other users here, no replies from Apple itself.
Besides the included adapter working, there's a MDP to DVI adapter you can buy...

  • Another dual display problem - GeForce FX 5200

I've seen lots of questions about dual display problem, situation when trying to connect two non-apple vga displays to your graphic card.
I have GeForce FX 5200 graphic card, with 2 display output's. And two DELL 17" vga LCD displays.
I manage to connect 1 display regulary with dvi to vga converter, but for other display I tried several difrent converters ADC to DVI to VGA, and it just did NOT work.
G5 could see other display in display settings, in arrange option I coud see two identical displays, but I don't get anu picture (desktop) on other display???
Is it problem with output's on my graphic card (Gforce FX 5200), could it be soloved with some ADC to VGA converter?
P.S. Dr. Bott ADC VGA Extractor is not compatible with GeForce FX 5200????

It should work. On Dr. Botts web-site it says:

  • Serious display issues with Mac Pro

    Hello
I have a 5 or 6 years old Mac Pro G5 with a ATI Radeon 9600 XT video card. I have a lot of problem properly connecting a display to that computer. Here is a small list of all the irregularities I witnessed :
    - When I connect an Apple Studio Display, the computer detect two displays (when looking at the display preference, one is labeled "VGA Display" and another labeled "Color LCD"), both at the same resolution and working as a two screens setup (as seen with Space) when not mirrored
    - I can't have the computer working with an Apple Cinema Display. The computer will not boot with that screen plugged in. The normal loading screen appeared, then just before the login screen, it goes black and eventually the computer stop.
    - The screen stay black when I connected it while the computer is running.
    - I have a couple of those G5, so I tried switching the video card with a working one (same model), and it didn't change anything to the screen problem.
I guess it sums up all the symptoms I can see. If anyone as a suggestion on what might be the problem, it will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You really should post this in the PowerMac forum, since it's a G5 and not a Mac Pro. All the Mac Pros are intel based.

  • Serious display problem. Please help!

I'm having a serious display problem all of a sudden. It is not application specific. Various different applications are pixelating, especially wherever I move my cursor and click the mouse. When I grab the entire application with the cursor and move it, the image duplicates into hundreds of images all over my screen. If I shake it around awhile, eventually it goes back to normal. What is going on??!!
Here's some background info: I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro. I still use the old fashioned tube monitors with mini display port to VGA converters, but I've never had a problem up until now. Just before the problem started happening, I tried to open up some .jpg files in Quicktime Pro 7.
I would greatly appreciate any ideas of what the problem could be and how to fix it.
