VGA / DVI issue (Ultrabase?)

Until today I had a laptop and desktop connected top an Avocent SwitchViewDV1 (KWM) Monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 226cw connected to switch box via DVI and from switchbox outputs by DVI cable to lap top & desktop.
Today received a new X200 ... it has no DVI socket (only 15 pin D type)I thought initially problem solved by adding a DV-I female to 15 pin male gender changer ... although this all physically fits ... nothing displayed on monitor.
2 questions ... is there an alternative 'adapter' or are DVI to VGA cables available ?
Second question ... and probably more important, does the Ultrabase support DVI monitor connection ... if so I might as well wait a couple of days for Ultrabase to arrive.

Osprey, welcome to the forum,
wait for the Ultrabase and order yourself a Display Port to DVI Cable.
Hope this helps

  • VGA/DVI cable - wanting to use two monitors.

I got a VGA/DVI cable to connect the VGA port on my LCD TV to the DVI port on my desktop computer. I'm trying to use 2 monitors on my computer which has both a VGA and DVI port. My regular monitor was already on, and the computer detected the TV as a monitor but the TV wouldn't detect a signal. I had the TV on the VGA/PC setting. The cable was a return item so it might be defective. I was wondering if there's anything else I could try to get it to work?

My computer's DVI port doesn't allow for the contacts above and below the flat blade like the DVI-I and DVI-A connectors in the picture. The cable that I got does have those contacts.
Ooooooh.  So your computer may be one of the rare animals that doesn't have a DVI-I output, only DVI-D.
Since your TV has HDMI inputs, this is the way to go.  Get a DVI-to-HDMI cable.  It will provide higher quality than VGA and is USUALLY easier to use, I've never had video timing/resolution support issues with HDMI.  (However, every computer I own has an Nvidia graphics card - the story may be different for ATI or Intel graphics!)

  • CAB-VGA-DVI-AUD25=

    Hi,
I have a problem regarding the presentation cable Part ID: CAB-VGA-DVI-AUD25 This cable used to be this config
    DVI           ->       VGA
    RCA         ->       3.5 mm stereo
But now (since this summer 2014) its seams to be this config on the cable:
    DVI            ->      VGA
    3.5 mm     ->      3.5 mm
Has anyone had this issue when doing an RMA?
I just want to know witch presentation cable is for C-codecs now?
    /Jonas

There's a description of the cables in this thread and some options for sourcing cheaper ones.
But, to quickly answer your question
CAB-VGA-DVI-AUD25= should have one end RCA and the other the 3.5mm.
CAB-VGA-DVI-AUD= would be the one with 3.5mm jack at both ends.
So, if you're doing an RMA, it's possble you're requesting, or being sent, the wrong cable as a replacement.

  • The difference between VGA, DVI-D and ADC?

    Hi.
The difference between VGA, DVI-D and ADC and which should be used with a T244 widescreen monitor into a Quicksilver G4 with a GeForce2 MX nVIDIA (0x10de) card. What's a good upgrade card if the above is not good enough?
    Thank you for your input.

  • Can I use a VGA/DVI-D monitor to a new 2014 Mac Mini?

My wife's PC just died (it was a cheap 300 pc that lasted probably 5 years.
She basically emails, web surfs, looks at pictures and plays candy crush on Facebook so she doesn't need anything too high end.
I was thinking of getting her the basic 2014 mac mini but I have a VGA/DVI-D monitor (an older Dell) and it fits perfectly on her desk.
Can I somehow hook up a new mac mini to either the DVI-D or VGA input?
If not, what is the best monitor to get HDMI or should I look into a thunderbolt monitor?
    Thanks,

Yes. You will have to purchase one of the following adopter:
    - HDMI to DVI and use the Minis HDMI output
    - Mini displayport to DVI adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
    - Mini displayport to VGA adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
I would use the monitor's DVI input over the VGA input

  • HT4617 Even though thunderbolt is not hot puggable in Bootcamp, is the use of mini displayport to vga/dvi still hot pluggable under Bootcamp?

Even though thunderbolt is not hot puggable in Bootcamp, is the use of mini displayport to vga/dvi still hot pluggable under Bootcamp?

This is Apple support on the subject

Can I plug and unplug devices into a Thunderbolt peripheral that is already recognized?
Yes. That is the best way to add and remove devices from the Thunderbolt chain while Windows 7 is running.
    Have you tried?

  • Iphone cable to vga, dvi or s-video

i am building a video installation and i would like to run the video off my iphone, but the projector that was donated only has an s-video, vga, dvi-d and single video output. the budget it blown, so i cant afford a new projector, does anyone of a cable that can connect from iphone to vga or dvi.
    appreciate the help
    /brian

I don't know of any off the top of my head, I'd have to look around. If I find anything I'll let you know. Even if you could get an adapter for iphone to vga, dvi-d, or s-video, you won't have any sound, those formats only support video.
One way you could do it is by connecting a computer to it with iTunes installed that is connected to the projector. You can then hook your iPhone up to it, or if you have a wireless network installed you can download the remote application for the iPhone to control your iTunes library remotely if you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network the computer is on.

  • Dual VGA \ DVI output on Dynadock??

    Hello
We have recently got the DVI \ VGA Dynadocks U10 and have got all the software installed
In the box was a note stating that with windows XP it is not possible to set an external monitor to the primary screen and then set the notebook monitor to the secondary
This is fine, however I have got a VGA and a DVI monitor connected to the dynadock
Is it possible to have the notebook display turned off and have the VGA as the primary monitor and the DVI as the secondary?
Everything I have tried so far has failed

    Hello,
it is not possible to use both (VGA + DVI port) at the same time.
You can use either a VGA or DVI monitor with the dynadock but you can connect the VGA monitor to the computer directly.
    best regards

  • VGA DVI conversion?

I have the iMac G5 with the VGA out, and I was bummed to discover that it was VGA ONLY!
So I bought the mini-VGA cable anyway, and ordered and VGA>DVI adapter. After re-booting I noticed both monitors showed up in the Finder's Display Menu(at top of screen), but the 2nd monitor was still dark!
So basically, I had 2 screens but only on the iMac screen.
My research has led me to believe the only way to make this work is to buy a US$300 converter... Please, say it aint so.
On the good side (and maybe off-topic), since I just bought this iMac 8 days ago, I was told I could return it for the intel version. Woo-hoo! (which supports DVI)
oh, but wait- will my AdobeCS2 suite run slower on Rosetta than on a "pure" Mac?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
Here's a little more info (also posted in a related thread on this forum)
I just checked the Apple Store web site--the video-out port on the 12" PowerBook is mini-DVI. The cable/adapter supplied with the 12" PowerBook is a mini-DVI to VGA cable and works with the Intel iMac. I have a 12" iBook G4, and when my Intel iMac arrives tomorrow, I will try out the cable. I'm guessing the iBook and PowerBook cable is identical, though the website says nothing about iBooks.
From the Apple Store web page:
"The Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo) and 12-inch PowerBook G4. Connect the adapter to the Mini-DVI port of the PowerBook G4 and the VGA end of the adapter to an external VGA monitor or projector. Both video-mirroring and extended desktop modes are supported."

  • Mini DVi to VGA colour issues

    Hi,
I recently purchased a projector to connect to my macbook. My intension was to use a mini-dvi to vga cable to do this, however when i connected everything up the projected image had a green tint. I must also state that i have connected a TV to the same port with a mini-dvi to s-video adaptor with no problems with the colour.
My first thought was that the cable was the problem, so i borrowed my friends macbook to see if they had the same problem. There where no issues, so if figured it was either a software or hardware issue.
My next step was to boot off the start up disk and plug the projector in, same issue - green tint.
So i have concluded that it is a hardware issue. I know that the mini-dvi port is connected directly to the logic board, if i want to get this fixed will i have to replace the whole logic board or is there another way.
All your help comes much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Bob

    Hi DoDolom,
    First, welcome to Macintosh!
Secondly, it sounds to me like what's happened is that OS X has extended your desktop onto a second monitor. Plug in an external mouse and keyboard and then close the MacBook's lid. It will go to sleep. Use the external mouse/keyboard to wake it up and you should be running on just the external display.

  • Mini DVI to VGA Adapter Issues

    Hey guys,
My first ever post to the forums. I just recently bought my very first apple computer. It is a 2.4 ghz Macbook 13" and bought a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter so that I can connect it to my 46" Sharp AQUOS TV. I connect my laptop with the dvi to vga adapter plus another vga cable of course and all I get on the screen is my wallpaper but I can't see any of the icons on my tv screen, nothing.
Can anyone help me on this? Does this sound like a familiar problem?
    I would appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dogan

  • Mini-DVI DVI to DVI VGA adaptor issues

So, I just bought a snazzy new black MacBook, and am wanting to connect it to my old 20" NEC monitor, which uses VGA. Since I already have a DVIVGA cable that I used with my old tower (and I figure I'll someday upgrade to a DVI monitor), I thought it might save some money to only buy a mini-DVIDVI cable, and use it to connect to the monitor via the other cable.
Everything looked fine and dandy until I actually tried to connect the adaptor cables, which is when I realized that there are 4 extra pins on the male DVI end of the DVIVGA adaptor (2 above and 2 below the longer thin piece on the end), which don't have anywhere to go on the female DVI end of the mini-DVIDVI cable.
I don't want to damage anything and ruin either of the cables, so I don't want to force them and break off or bend those 4 pins, but what exactly do they do, and why are they needed on that adaptor, when they apparently wouldn't be there on regular DVI monitor cables? Would it compromise the integrity of the DVIVGA cable if I did bend them out of the way? Or did I just screw myself into buying an extra adaptor that at the moment is of no use to me?
I'll gladly post some pictures if anybody doesn't understand what I'm talking about and needs to see it themselves!

the extra pins are the analog portion of the DVI-I DVIVGA adapter cable that you already had. they contain the analog RGB, sync, and ground bar that allows the adapter cable to be terminated with a VGA end (VGA is analog).
DVI-D is the same as a DVI-I, except w/o the analog lines... which is what, unfortunately, your mini-DVI to DVI-D cable you bought is. breaking off the extra pins on the adapter would be the equivelant of cutting off the end of the VGA cable, in other words, not good.
you will need to go back and purchase the apple manufacturered mini-DVI to VGA cable or adapter and appropriate VGA to VGA cable.

  • Thunderbolt issue vga dvi

On the new mac mini with Thunderbolt, problems with monitors like macbook.
Thunderbolt - Minidisplay to VGA - screen not activate, diferent screens.
HDMI > DVI - Eizo screen S2202W, switch from vga to dvi, screen 3 sec snow before right image.
VGA and DVI screen to mac mini, VGA screen as master.
At boot, screen DVI as startup screen, VGA black
after boot both screen black and then image on both screens.
    After disconnect vga screen
Both screen setup in one screen.
Are there users with the same problems.

There do seem to be a lot of people having problems  (possibly everyone trying to use a VGA monitor) on the new Mac mini.
If you can you should use DVI or HDMI, however if you have to use VGA it seems that turning the Mac on waiting for it to finish booting and only then connecting the Mini Displayport to VGA adaptor works.

  • Mini DVI to VGA adapter issue

Hi, I'm having a problem connecting my second monitor to my Mac... it connects and I see the SL desktop, but the colors are funky. Everything is either way too red, or if you tap the adapter it will turn to a blue. It's a heavy hue that's hard to work with. The calibration has no help. Any ideas?

    Hi Greg,
Typically when colors are off or alignment is off centered there's usually a bent or missing pin somewhere. Each pin carries a specific color and signal between the machine and the monitor. I'd inspect each pin on the cable from the monitor and make sure that everything looks aligned and normal.
