That HARDLY explains my MiniDisplay-VGA that powers a 16:9 (1920X1080) LED widescreen HD monitor.

  • T400 and VGA issues

I am pretty certain that my VGA output was working fine until today.  I don't use the external display that often so it's hard to say exactly when the issue started.
The external display shows fine during bootup and the animated Windows logo (this is on Windows 7 btw).  But when the login screen comes up, the screen looks washed out like an overexposed picture with very low color.
The only thing I installed recently is TurboTax 2009.  Could a software like that cause VGA issues?
Also an interesting I noticed was right when Windows is shutting down (the "shutting down" message comes up), the VGA display looks normal without any issues.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

    Hi jbum,
Thank you for posting that you were able fix your problem by not starting igfxpers.exe. I googled a bit about that one yesterday and didn't come away with a clear idea of all that it does. Apparently one thing it does is to store your favored screen resolution.
Many recommend not starting the service, for example:
    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1079178
I found only one person with a UMPC who said the service helped him:
    http://www.eeaston.com/using-my-umpc/igfxpers-really-IS-required-on-my-UMPC
But anyway, I think you are safe leaving it off, especially since it seems to have solved your problem with washed-out video.
Your DVI issue interests me -- let's discuss it on the other thread.
    Best regards,
    Frank

  • Mini DVI - VGA Issue

I purchased a Mini DVI-VGA adaptor from Apple over a year ago. I've used it only to connect my Macbook to a projector. Once connected, the screen will flash briefly and then the resolution will change and I will be able to switch back and forth from single screen to dual screen by clicking F7...but this was back when things were beautiful and I had no issues.
Now, my adaptor will not work...neither would another Min DVI-VGA adaptor that I tried...but yet the port will work when I connect my Mini DVI-SVideo/RCA adaptor.
Is there a setting that I may have changed? It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue because the port will work with a different type of adaptor.

Hi. I have pretty much the same problem: everything was fine until yesterday. As usual, the screen flashed briefly but then the resolution DID NOT change and the projector could not connect. After removing the adaptor, the screen flashed again but that's it but there was no difference as the resolution had not changed. To note that the adaptor is (grrrr) new (bought about a month ago). Could it be an issue with MAC OS 10.6.2? or maybe the firmware needs an update? I'd be glad if someone could help. Cheers,

  • Mini Display to VGA issue

I've been using a MiniDVi to VGA adapter on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro for well over a year with no problems. Then, about a week ago, when I went to connect it to my 720p LCD television, the Mac's screen turned blue and came back as if nothing happened. The TV shows nothing, just a "No Signal" message, and the Mac only shows one display when I check in System Settings. I've tried clicking "Detect Displays" and nothing happens. I've also reset my SMC and PRAM but to no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is there a mini DVI adapter you can borrow to confirm that it the culprit?
You would not want to spend that $$ only to find out that the problem is something else. The reason I suggested the cables as a place to start is they are the most susceptable to issues.
You did all the correct resets, so checking the cables would be my next step. It could be the DVI port has a hardware issue, or there are other things at work.
So if you borrow an adapter and confirm, then you won't waste money.
    Good luck

  • Hdmi to VGA issue

I use an HDMI to VGA converter to an external monitor. Recently the external monitor began to flas off and on periodically, and then completely went blank. Tried rebooting, and a second vga monitor with the same results. Purchased a new adapter as well and at first it semed to resolve the issue, but then it returned.
I turned the Laptop off overnight, and restarted, and the external monitor began working again.
That night left the LT go into sleep mode overnight, and when woke the LT the next morning the external display again did not recover.
Turned the LT off again and let it set for about an hout. Turned back on and the external monitor now works again.
I've reset the power options to nev ?er turn the monitor off, but let the LT go into sleep mode to attempt to determine where the issue is.
Not sure if it's heat related or sleep mode related.
Warranty expires in August so want to get to the bottom of this if possible.
    Suggestions?

    Hi there @Spark_Ric
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are trying to use an HDMI to VGA converter to connect to an external monitor. I am happy to help you with a direct HDMI connection, to an HDMI device to test the functionality of the HDMI port. Beyond that I cannot troubleshoot an HDMI-VGA adpater that may not be compatible.
If possible do you have an external HDMI device you can connect to, and test with, or if you prefer as you say you are in warranty, you can try calling our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
Again, it is likely that phone support will want to eliminate the adapter from the chain and test with a direct HDMI connection to verify the HDMI port.

  • K7N2G VGA issues...

I have two similar HK with AMD XP2100 and 256mb RAM.
I get bluescreen when installing WinXP. If I try with another VGA card the installation goes OK, util I restart with the onboard VGA, and installing the drivers for it. Then it crashes again. I have the latest (3.3)bios as well.
Same happens with both of tem....
    Any IDEAS someone ?

I have a similar problem. If using the onboard graphics  card, and having the Hardware Accelration up full (engaging Direct Draw and Direct 3D) the system will crash when performing any graphic intensive function. Sometime it will crash by dragging a window
I have latest Bios, VGA, System and MOBo drivers installed.
Here's a post I put on another site:
I've recently bought an MSI k7N2G ILSR motherboard based on nvidia's chipset and with an onboard Gefore 4 graphics adapter. I've an AMD 2100XP CPU and 1 gig of RAM in 2 sticks. Changed the RAM after the system kept failing on boot and often turning off for no reason, and then got a better fan and colling system as the CPU was running near 70 c all the time. New fan had reduced it to 45 c.
After many prblems getting the system up and running on XP pro, it appears to be fairly stable...except for the graphics side of things. The standard driver doesn't give a desktop res of more than 1024 x 768 and the monitor won't go above 60 Hz refresh. What's more the system will crash, guaranteed if I slide the hardware acclerator up to full. Any sort of intensive graphic task, even dragging a window will cause the computer to just turn off. If I disable all 3D properties and have it a notch up from off, the system is fine, but of course all games, photoshop work and video is out of the window as it seems so sluggish and the redraw rate is terrible.
I have all the latest BIOS, VGA, motherboard system driver updates, and more. I've reformatted the c drive umpteen times to ensure a clean install base and installed drivers one at a time until the problem appears. It looks extremely like a VGA driver issue. The graphics driver is WHQL'd and goes in without any XP prompts, but any attempt at engaging direct draw or other graphical stuff on the HA slider causes the crash, precursored by lines and blocks all over the screen.
Very frustrating, it's a clean system with little extra hardware, all ports such as firewire and ethernet are on board, so not much to conflict with or fight for unexpected IRQ demands. Why should this happen on a system that's supposed to be 100% compatible in terms of CPU, RAM, OS and regular peripherals?
Any help would be much appreciated.
MSI Tech Support have taken ages to reply so I thought I'd ask the people who really know!

  • Mini DVI to VGA issues w/ LCD HDTV

I have looked all over and I can't find a solution.
I recently purchased an LCD HDTV, Insignia Brand which is a Best Buy Brand, and I bought a DVI cable to hook up to my Powerbook G4 using the Mini DVI to VGA cable. When I hook it up to my tv it works, but the screen on my Powerbook looks magnified as does the LCD TV. When I launch Safari or any other program it doesn't fit on my screen or the LCD TV and I have to resize it.
After I look at displays in system prefernces it says my max resolution is 1024 x 768.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Jeremy

Just guessing - the TV's "VGA" input is limited to 1024x768, which is possible although some "VGA" inputs will work higher. Do the instructions mention a limitation like this?
I think if you turn off mirroring on the Powerbook, at least the Powerbook screen will have normal resolution, and the TV 1024x768. The TV apparently scales up image to fill the screen unless using HDMI, where is leaves the extra 342 pixels blank on the sides (1366-1024). Perhaps the TV has a mode for adjusting how the TV handles lesser resolutions (stretch, dot-by-dot, etc)

  • Mini-DVI to VGA issue

I'm trying to have my display go to my 26" Vizio tv.
However, when everything is plugged in, the display isn't showing up on the TV.
    Any Help?

This seems obvious, but I have to ask; is the Vizio set to the VGA input?
Have you tried alternate resolutions and refresh rates for the Vizio within Displays Preferences? If none of them causes the Vizio to light up, it could be a basic incompatibility between the Vizio and the MB over VGA. Some displays terminate the VGA horizontal and vertical sync lines into too low of an impedance for the MB, and it becomes unable to drive those lines to critical TTL threshold levels. If that's what's happening, you could try getting a Mini DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable and see if you get a better result out of that.

  • Mini displayport to vga issue

I am trying to connect my MBP to multiple projectors(via vga distribution amp) using the mini displayport to vga adapter. It will recognize and correctly connect to each projector individually but will not connect to all simultaneously. Have a macbook w mini dvi to vga adapter that works fine both individually and simultaneously but for some reason the MBP will not. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter last May and only had the chance to use it now for my presentation. When I connected the cord of our LCD Projector to the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, it didn't work. I thought the cable was problematic and so I used another one but it still didn't work. After my presentation, another friend used the same cable and her Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter for MacBook. Her Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter worked. She said she just connected the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to the cord of the projector and it already worked. Is my Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter problematic or is there something I forgot to do that's why it didn't work? It's the first time for me to use it and can I have it replaced just in case it really isn't working?

  • Mac Mini MiniDisplayPort-to-VGA issue

    Hi all,
We have a brand new Mac Mini in our office (not the one in my sig) connecting to a VGA projector via a MiniDisplayPort-to-VGA adapter. When the Mac Mini reboots the projector loses connection and it can take multiple reboots, repeated plugging/unplugging of all cables and a frustratingly long time to get video back up and running. We've tried usual tricks like applying all outstanding software updates and resetting PRAM, SMC etc.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Regards,
    RT.

This does seem to unfortunately be a universal problem on the new Mac mini with VGA screens.
The apparent best workaround is to boot the Mac without the adapter connected, then after it has finished booting plug the adapter in.
If you can you could try using DVI instead, many projectors support DVI as well.

  • IMac27' for PC Screen ( MiniDisplay Port - VGA ) issue

    Hi everyone,

Thanks and sorry about my poor english =(

    Hi BDAqua,
the PC graphic card has not MiniDisplay Port...
So if i want to use mi iMac27' as screen the pc has to have at least a MiniDisplay Port, no? That's the only way?
Can the graphic card use a adaptor for this task ( Like VGA - MiniDisplay Port adapter )? My graphic card has DVI and HDMI ports for more info.
Thanks for the help, you heal me a big headache

  • T60 VGA issue

    Hi all
I have a problem with a second hand T60 I just bought. Everything works besides thre VGA port. I have tried to connect to a LCD screen and a projector, but without success at all.
I am a rookie when it comes to BIOS settings, drivers etc., so can anyone explain to me how I can correct this - and keep in mind - I'm a rookie at this, so details are greatly appreciated....;-)

  • M4000 vga issues

    Hello friends,
After spending three days trying to get my M4000 server give display to an regular lcd monitor i just read a few posts here that it is not possible. I want to know what other ways are possible to manage the server ... i have already done the initial configurations using xscf and i am able to connect with telnet and ssh ... but i would still like to access it through a webpage ... can any one tell me the commands or steps to configure and use it through a web browser ... and also what is the difference between xscf and ilom
    Thank you

For the M series machine, XSCF can never be display via a external display card.
However you can still configure the VGA card to output Solaris X windows upon successful boot, but you would then need to purchase a third party usb card for keyboard and mouse. But with the limited numbers of pcie slots, this might not be very practical.

  • X100e External VGA Issue

    Hello,
We have a X100e that has developed a problem with the external VGA port no longer sending video to a monitor.  We have replaced the video drivers, updated the video driver, replaced cables and monitors, checked the BIOS and basically everything we can think of.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Have you found a resolution?  Thought we'd check here first before placing a support call.
    Thanks!

    Thanks both for you replies.
Still with no success. BIOS options change nothing, windows value added package already latest version. reinstalled anyway. But still nothing.
I already switch the monitors via Fn&F5, either extended or clone or individual. None work.
The fact it shows this symptoms in DOS I suspect points to hardware... doh!
Thanks for all you help though!
