VGA to DVI VGA splitter

Well, at least this is what I think I need.
At work I have a regular PC with a small screen that I believe uses a VGA connection, I have a three year old Mac screen (aluminum case)which has a DVI connection. I want to add the Mac screen to the PC as well as having the company one connected.
Therefore I think I need a VGA to VGA DVI splitter - I've searched and cannot find anything. Any useful clues would be appreciated

A standard DVI to VGA cable will work fine with a G5. A ? in a box means the display is working, but the G5 can't find a hard drive with a working OSX operating system. Maybe there is no hard drive in the computer. Did the seller include the install discs with the G5?
I've checked the back of my G5 and i've realised that there is two dvi connections at the back of the Mac. One of them is a bit smaller than the other one.
Many G5s have one DVI and one ADC port.

but the VGA version has become scare (end expensive). (No, you can't use the ADC to DVI adapter followed by a DVI to VGA adapter.)

Multiple displays with 15"and 19"monitor using a VGA splitter on my Mac Pro

Hi, so I have a brand spanking new Mac Pro and have been using a cheap, basic 15" monitor with it. As I'm doing lots of Edit/graphics work I've just purchased a new monitor, it's a 19" Acer flatscreen. Now I'm hoping to work the same display across both monitors, so I can set up my preview window on the 15" and do my work on the 19" screen.
The Mac has two DVI output sockets in the back, both monitors are VGA but I only have one DVI to VGA adaptor. Though I do have a VGA splitter! So I've tried going from one DVI socket to VGA, then put the splitter into that and then each monitor into each split socket, if that makes sense? I now have the same display on each screen i.e. while I'm typing this I'm looking at it twice but I want to see it once over two screens, how do I adjust this, there's no option in display settings?
Is it simply that I need to buy another DVI to VGA adaptor and use the other port? Just looking to save myself a tenner, that's all!

In which case (and if you want to keep the internal LCD on even with 2 VGA LCD connected).
Cheapest solution: get a usb2vga converter.
More expensive but better responsiveness on large LCD, get a series 3 dock with 2 displayport and get 2 displayport to vga converter (one dp2vga converter and run one LCD from your onboard vga may also work, but never tested it).

VGA Splitter

I just bought a VGA splitter and i hooked it up to my computer it displays both screens. I have a windows 8 HP Pavilion and when i go to devices it says that its a "Generic Non-PNP Monitor". It also doesnt turn up as a projected source. Please help... Is there any way to make it see both monitors?

Could one use a y VGA splitter to connect an ipad to a computer and a smart board that is connected to it?

Could a person connect an ipad to a computer and a smart board that is connected to it by using a y VGA splitter?

I use a program called Reflector to wirelessly display my iPad onto my Mac. To take it a step further, I connect my computer to a projector so that my iPad screen can be displayed via projector to a screen or smart board on the wall. Much cheaper than buying an Apple TV to do this.

VGA Splitter issue

Hi there, new to this forum and am after some guidance. ..
I have recently purchased a Mac Mini and wanted to connect it to two displays, one standard monitor and one LCD TV in the next room via a 5m VGA cable. I purchased a powered VGA splitter and relevant VGA cabling and it worked to the monitor and to my Samsung 40" LCD TV via the VGA port and got really good resolution.
I have subsequently replaced the Samsung TV with a Sony 40" KDL-40V4000 LCD TV which also has a VGA port. With exactly the same setup I get flickering horizontal lines lines on both the TV and the monitor.
I have subsequently discovered that if I remove one of the displays from the splitter the remaining one works fine.
I have now purchased a VGA switch and even switching between the two I get the flicker.
I have been through the TV settings and played with SwitchResX to no avail

Many thanks for the reply and sorry about my delayed response.
I currently have the resolution set to 1280 x 768, 60Hz.
I have tried a number of resolutions that work fine, mainly at 60Hz.
The Sony LCD supports this resolution according to the manual.
The monitor is an Acer AL2016W which supports up to 1680 x 1050 which is it's native resolution.
I have now tried every possible configuration of VGA cable. The length does seem to have an impact in that the longest cable is worst affected and the shortest is a feint flicker. If the lengths are about the same however there is a similar flicker on each.
Again, any suggestions would be much appreciated

Passive or active VGA-splitter for Mini?

I would like to mirror my Mini display with VGA-input to a 32 inch LCD-TV with VGA input. Should I use a passive or an active VGA-splitter?

Active splitter devices appear to the computer as a
monitor, and then transmit the graphical data to the
displays connected to them.
I think that point needs to be repeated and reinforced!
Since the mini has a display detect line in the video connector, it receives signals from compatible devices that signal what they are and helps the system determine what resolution and refresh rate to set. An active splitter can feed appropriate data back to the mini, while a passive one can only relay what it receives from the display. If both displays are the same, that wouldn't be a problem, but if they are different, the mini will receive a detect signal that at best will suit one display but may not match the other, since it does not know there are two displays connected.

Startech VGA splitter ST124L.

It will not work with my Macbook. The output works great with other devices, just not the splitter. It does not recognize the device at all.
Startech suggested it is a power issue or I need a video update. I doubt both of those problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bearing in mind the line in the monitor cable that supplies data regarding the display attached to the system, using a splitter with two or more monitors with varying default resolutions, each trying to signal the mini, when the mini can only set one display resolution, it isn't entirely surprising that you would have problems.
As an alternative, you might try powering the mini up with only one display attached - the one with the lowest resolution - and then once running with a visible image on that display, then plug in the other device. There is no certainty that this would work, and even if it does, it's clearly not ideal, but it is worth a try.
Alternatively, you might consider a Matrox Dual Head2Go (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/dh2go/home.php) which is not inexpensive, but has been reported to work with the mini to good effect.
There isn't a settings file that, if deleted, would help you. However, if you end up[ during experimentation without any display output at all, you can boor into safe mode (shift key held down) and then search the Mac using the Finder's 'find' command, for all instances of 'windowserver' (there should be 3) and remove them. Those are the files that contain display settings, and if removed, the system will create new ones - thus restoring usable display.

MacBook 2nd display (mini-DVI-DVI (D)- VGA)?

I am trying to hook up a second display to my MacBook. The problem is that I don't have a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, but I have a mini-DVI to DVI, and a DVI to VGA adapters. So I connected my Apple mini-DVI to DVI, to my DVI to VGA, and then to my 2nd display (NEC LCD1560NX). The notebook's image flips as i normally connect a second display, it auto-detects the 2nd screen and displays its correct name, but I do not get an image on my second display. It set to the right resolution and frequency.
Any suggestions?

go to system preferences -> display-> and mirror the displays, it should work on the second display, but the cons on the macbook is to work on the first display, the built in card may not support the second one, if thats the case i'm sorry i can't help it. you can also try to get a DVI/VGA splitter and see if that work, it works on standard integrated intel VGA models. good luck!

DVI to VGA screen goes black

I have a G5 and wish to mirror a TV screen to the existing monitor. I have bought a DVI splitter to DVI and VGA. One screen goes black ( the Mac Screen ) as the Mac thinks there is only one monitor connected. How do i tell the Mac to have a mirror screen when in Display the options are hidden. TV & monitor connected via DVI to VGA & DVI cable. Wont display

I have my TV & monitor connected to my mini via DVI(input) to> VGA(output) & DVI(output) splitter cable. I cant get both tv and monitor to work at the same time only one or the other. How can I get this to work?
Note: I dont want a continuous display, I just want one to show the same as the other. If there both plugged in why dont they both work?

The answer to your question would require having a block diagram of the mini's graphics sub-system. If the DAC (digital-to-analog converter) behind the VGA port is just driven from the same output as the TMDS transmitter behind the DVI port, then I agree it would be possible that both could output the same screen simultaneously. But if the VGA and DVI ports are treated as seperate channels all the way back to video memory, then likely one would be prioritized over the other, only one could be active, and they would not be able to output simultaneously.
Another potential problem is that TVs and computer monitors generally want to run at very different formats and they require different signal types to be happy. A TV will want an interlaced output whereas a computer monitor will not. And a TV will want a very low resolution, like 640 x 480, whereas a computer monitor will be happiest at a much higer resolution.
I hope for you that someone else has this working and chimes in with some practical advice. I try to avoid making posts where I have no practical advice to offer and only bad news, but in this case I thought you might want to know about some potential barriers to success. Good luck.

Connecting DVI Cinema Display and VGA Projector from Minidisplay Port

I'm trying to get my mid 2011 Mac Mini to send a signal from my MiniDisplay Port to a vga splitter which works fine. My biggest thing is that when I connect my inFocus IN112 VGA Projector the screen shows up from my mac but to connect my Cinema Display it takes VGA so I had to go from the VGA Splitter on one side and use a vga to dvi adapter and my cinema display shows blank? Help Me Please!!

I already have a converter on the end of the VGA Splitter to go to the Cinema. The reason I don't use the hdmi to dvi is because with the minidisplay port using vga to the projector and the hdmi going to dvi to the Cinema it makes the projector screen very rough and pixely

VGA vs DVI with regards to projectors

I have recently purchased a BENQ MP620 DLP projector to use as a home cinema and for my artwork. It is running off the VGA port of my Mac and produces a very good picture as is. However, is it worth running it off the DVI port; will there be a noticeable improvement in picture quality? I also use a LaCie 22" monitor on the VGA port and having to swap the cables is a pain. I know I could buy a VGA splitter but a bit more money could buy a DVI cable instead. Having blown my money on the projector I am a little strapped for cash at the moment! I definitely can't afford a new graphics card...

The school I taught at used projectors with both VGA and DVI inputs and to my eye the DVI output seemed sharper.

VGA adapter splitter? 1 external monitor for desktop and macbook

I recently bought the Apple VGA adapter and it works great with my macbook and external monitor. However I use that same external monitor with my desktop PC. It's becoming a pain to constantly unscrew and plug out the VGA cable. So I'm trying to find a VGA splitter that has 2 male ends and 1 female end, but I'm not sure if something like that even exists. Basically I want to be able to use my external monitor with my macbook and pc without having to unplug the monitor's vga cable from my desktop. If anyone can give any suggestions that'd be great. You shouldn't try a splitter cable as you would have interference from the two signals. You need a VGA switch box like one of these.

VGA monitor and TV switchbox with Mini

I have recently purchased the EyeTV for DTT box for my Mac Mini. I currently use a Dell VGA monitor for my work but would like to watch TV broadcasts from the EyeTV through my TV. However, I don't want to keep unplugging the monitor and then plugging in the TV (via the DVI - S-video adaptor) each time I want to view EyeTV stuff. Is there some kind of switchbox available which would enable me to have both the monitor and TV connected and where I could just flick a switch to send the video signal to either the monitor or TV (note: I don't need the video signal to be displayed on both the monitor and TV at the same time).

Sorry I misread your post.
One option would be an eyeHome which would connect to the ethernet port of the Mac mini.
Another option is a VGA Splitter.
