Vga to Mac monitor

Hi, I would like to connect my ibook g4, to an old mac monitor I have, but what adapter do I need? Can anyone tell me one on ebay? Thanks

luisom,
Here is the specifications page for the iBook G4 line:
http://support.apple.com/specs/ibook/iBook_G4.html
It gives the following information for VGA, S-video and composite video output:
"Video mirroring supports VGA video out to an external display or projector (requires included Apple VGA Video Adapter) and S-video and composite video out to a TV or VCR (requires optional Apple Video Adapter, sold separately)."
The adapter came with your computer but you may not have it anymore. If you have that adapter, you may still need another connector to connect to the old monitor.
This page states that your computer is VGA compatible:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86183
Here is the Apple infobase page for adapters:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=33001
Google for vendors and you are in business.
(If you have the old HD45 monitor connector for the 6100/7100/8100 series computers, you will need to adapt that connection as well. Information found here.)
Good luck shopping.

  • Trying to us an old VGA power Mac monitor on my 2006 imac

I Thought I had a fix for my quickly dying imac.  It's guts are fine but the LCD monitor has developed a form of computer tourets.   I've just lost 1/3 of the screen.  Tested it out to determine that my graphics card is fine but the monitor is not,
I have a spare vga monitor that I was using on a first generation powermac.  I _thought_ i had found the proper connector (mini-dvi to VGA).  Tried to connect them today but there's a problem:  The pins don't match (the mini-dvi female end can't accept the male vga monitor plug as it's too big and has many more pins than it can accommodate).
HELP!!!!!  Is there another adapter required?  If so, what's the product number or name?

I'm sorry, but your Mac is way too old to update to Mountain Lion. Look here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444
Mavericks was released yesterday and Mountain Lion is no longer available in the MAS. You need to be running OSX 10.6.8 in order to have the MAS on your Mac in the first place.
Maybe you should think about investing in a new Mac - or maybe a refurb, if you can't afford a new one, or settle for the OS that you are running now. As far as I know, you cannot buy Tiger which might be the next step up for your machine.

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

  • Can I use a VGA/DVI-D monitor to a new 2014 Mac Mini?

My wife's PC just died (it was a cheap 300 pc that lasted probably 5 years.
She basically emails, web surfs, looks at pictures and plays candy crush on Facebook so she doesn't need anything too high end.
I was thinking of getting her the basic 2014 mac mini but I have a VGA/DVI-D monitor (an older Dell) and it fits perfectly on her desk.
Can I somehow hook up a new mac mini to either the DVI-D or VGA input?
If not, what is the best monitor to get HDMI or should I look into a thunderbolt monitor?
    Thanks,

Yes. You will have to purchase one of the following adopter:
    - HDMI to DVI and use the Minis HDMI output
    - Mini displayport to DVI adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
    - Mini displayport to VGA adopter and use one of the Minis Thunderbolt ports
I would use the monitor's DVI input over the VGA input

Easiest thing I found was to manually expand any open window you're dealing with; including a webpage. To do this look at the bottom right hand corner of the window pane itself. Just below the Up and Down scrolling arrows is a corner with 3 diagonal lines. Grab that and drag in the direction (up, down, right, left, diagonal) that resizes the window to meet your needs. Once you've done this the size will be remembered when you open the window in the future. I've learned Apple doesn't like "full screen" mode. Just as well since filling the screen with an open application hides anything else you have open. And the Dock doesn't highlight or display the open Apps. Hint: I've learned to use the F3 key a lot. That way I can see everything that I've opened and change applications.

  • How do I connect my dell laptop from work to my 27 mac monitor?, how do I connect my dell laptop from work to my 27 mac monitor?

    I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.
I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop.  I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.
I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).
I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga.  I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb).  Please help.  I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.

I'm flabbergasted!      I wasn't aware of that technology.  I'll try reading up on it after I get some sleep; maybe I'm just dreaming right now.
Would that kind of device work with my lowly MacBook running Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

  • Using an old Mac monitor

I'd like to set up a Mac mini that I'm not otherwise using for kids games and some surfing. The only spare monitor I have left is an old 15 inch Multiple Scan display.
It needs to be connected via the dvi-vga adapter and then a vga-Mac monitor adapter. The start up splash screen comes up but then when the desktop comes up it is grey, no matter what I set the resolution (via system preferences) using another monitor. the top resolution for this monitor was 1024 by 768.

Not sure if I recall the definitive answer, but you would probably be better off finding a VGA monitor used.

I have a new Mac Mini and a 7 year old Mac monitor. The connectors dont match. What to do?

I suspect the monitor has an ADC connector

If so you need one of these:

Otherwise what connector is on the monitor?

  • Connect to VGA-flat screen monitor ?

my ibook G3 (dual USB) has a RGB display, out , I m not sure which adapter to get to have to connect to a standard dell VGA-flat screen monitor ?
    second question:
how do you increase screen brightness? it is so dim, have to squint to see screen

It takes a VGA (RGB) cable to connect to an external monitor.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2721?viewlocale=en_US
As for the second question, have you tried resetting the PMU? The PMU (Power Management Unit) has control over the backlight function, so resetting it may help.

Can I use my I Mac monitor with a Mac Mini?

Which iMac and which Mac Mini...?
Only the late 27" iMac's support input for use as a display with another system that has MiniDisplay Port output.
You might be able to use > ScreenRecycler, however I'm not sure how your going to set it up without a display for the Mac Mini.

    Thanks!

    Hi-
All that you need is a KVM to connect both machines to, allowing both to use the same keyboard, mouse and monitor.
