[VIA] cpu at half power in km4m-v why does any one know
hi right ive just got a km4m-v with a xp1900 mp which runs at 1,53 mhz but this mb wont show it at the proper speed it say it a mobile amd at 800mhz it a 266 so the jumpers are set to 133 as should be if i jack it up to 166 it show as unknown at 1008mhz which is still to slow ive read the forums and the are others that have had the same but no answers why is my cpu only working at half what it should be ? ive checked with soft cpuz i think and it says the muti is 6 well it should be 12 there are no setting in this bios to change any thing i would never of bought gthis mb if i had know that i thought all mb let you overclock these days
so does any one know how to get the proper power out of my amd chip with a 266 fsb which this crap mb should suport ? thanks for any help please dont tell me to set the muti cos there are no way to to this i wish there was

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I don't believe there is a reset for the internal battery. -

Half of my apps are not syncing to my Ipad 2. Any one know how to fix it?
It says it's not compatible with Ipad but when I check with the app's info, it is compatible with Ipad 2. Do I actually need to repurchase and redownload these apps on ipad 2 separately?
I've tried to go to the apps tab on itunes and select them individually then sync them again but the same thing happened again.
Itunes keeps popping up a window saying these apps are not compatible with Ipad.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -

I have noted in several posts as have a few of the others here,, Bob Timmons being one who has tested it, that the new one was no better than the old ones. I bought a new AEBS 5th Gen to test against all my old TC's up to Gen 3.. IMHO they are all about the same.. and my old Thomson G wireless router beats them handsomely at the other end of the house. ie the range is to be frank, pathetic. I don't have a Mac laptop to test with.. so just concluded it needs the exact match to get results like anandtech article..
I would do the following.
1. Download and use 5.6 utility.. you are lucky you are still on Lion as ML no longer can use v5 utility.

2. Set wireless names to short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Set a different name to 5ghz. Its range is always short.. so don't expect too much. Make sure the output is set to 100%.. and the region is correct.
3. Lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. test the available channels.. in Nepal I have no idea what is allowed.. but 1, 6, 11 are the main non-overlapping channels for most of the world. Power output maybe different though and the TP-Link might be set to higher output country.. apple do not allow that. Check what country the tp-link is set to.
4. The location of the TC must be as good as possible.. The antennas are around the 3 sides but the most important is in front.. try to place the TC so the laptop is facing the front of the TC, with nothing in between.
I am pretty sure you are never going to get the output any higher than it is now.. I still use the old wireless G Thomson signal in the other end of the house. And even running 3 TC at once (when I am repairing power supplies.. makes no difference.. they are all invisible).
Either return the TC as unsuitable.. or simply use it as a backup.
The TP-Link can be used in wan bypass to provide wireless.. just turn off the TC wireless. -

Normal CPU Temps for Power Mac G5?
Hello All,
I just wanted to know, since Im very curious about my temperatures since Im really trying to avoid the Logic Board failure due to Lead-less solder. Ive installed heat sinks on my DDR-SDRAM cards (x4 1GB Apple OEM chips (they bear the Apple Logo and have " Memory Module" on the stickers) I got four of these heat sinks: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835110105 and they work extremely well, however I dont possess the required tools to remove the processors to apply Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste, and these processors have not been budged one bit since purchase date. This is a Second Generation June 2004 Power Mac G5 DP 1.8GHz. The Processors temperatures are typically around 150ºF-160ºF Im using iStat Menus. Fans arent even noticeable. Nothing makes noises at all, I was just wondering if this is normal activity and if I need to take the heat sinks off and apply AS5 paste. If temps go above 160ºF, I pull the side panel off the Power Mac as well as the air deflector and I remove the "G5 plate" from over the processors and let it vent (still running normally, Im not sleeping it or shutting down) and processor temps come down to 130-135ºF. Should I worry about logic board failure if I leave them at 160ºF (both CPU A and CPU B are always the same temp (usually within 2ºF of each other) This is my only Mac other than an over clocked eMac (900MHz from 700MHz) and a DP 1.0GHz Xserve G4. I want to keep this G5 in working order as long as possible. Thanks so much. Also, by the way I have been dusting this Power Mac out every week since day one using compressed air. There has never been anything more than the slightest amount of dust in this machine, sometimes no dust at all. This machine is well looked after. Thanks in advance.

Why does %system take so much of my system resources half an hour into computer turned on.
I recently inhereted an i7 8gb ram 256gb ssd retina 15" mbp from my father and I am trying to use it but it keeps malfunctioning.
The error:
Activity Monitor is set to launch at start-up so I kept track of the Activity of CPU, due to starting the troubleshooting of this error.
What I found was that when computer starts the CPU would be idle 95% and when the computer would be on for half an hour the %System would start to take all of the remaining idle cpu. Regardless of what I was doing, wether just leaving the computer and not doing anything, or playing Starcraft 2. Either way the %System just destroys the CPU about half-an-hour into start-up of MBP.
I have done a system restore (via turn comp on, hit command+r and do the online factory restore) twice.
I have switched user accounts because I was thinking it was something I did on this account. Still happened.
I have googled to see if anyone else has a problem like this but couldn't find an exact replica of the situation, just similar problems.
I have done Software Update and still nothing.
Side-note:
Computer was not used for 4 months, and when I first tried to use it it would not turn on. With or without charger connected.
I left it to charge over night and nothing. Packed the MBP away for a few days. Then tried again to turn it on via charging, nothing happened and about 5 minutes after trying for the first time (kept it plugging in without disconnecting) I noticed a minor cloud of smoking rising from the MBP out of the back, behind the monitor. I closed the monitor and the MBP turned on. Now when I move the MBP around I can hear "broken things" moving around in the MBP. Now the battery is shot and reads as being not present.
Not sure if the side-note has anything to do with the main error but thought I would add that in. If anyone can help me out I will be forever grateful of them.
Update: I read some other peoples "problems" on this forum and found that you can view "system processes" from the drop down menu in the top right corner of activity monitor. And kernal_task is taking 600% of CPU. And someone asked the original poster "did you launch anything at all that would affect the kernal_task" and he said no. Well Im in the same boat. I did system restore over-night. Went to log-in and noticed the usual... 30 seconds login with half a second delay with keystrokes. (mind you this is the first time using after computer did restore. All it did was sit idle, and had a user log-in).
Also another thing I forgot to mention was that when I turn computer off and then turn it off (shut down. manual start-up) then the problem would reset. But if I did a "restart" then the computer would restart with the %system consuming all the resources as it did before.

When I connect my Macbook Pro to my Dell DLP projector, either via cable or wirelessly, I just see a dark screen with the mouse and mouse trails only, can any one help?
jpmarkques post is a good start point, after folling his directions, you can try detect displays. Also try different rsolution and refresh rates.
Most of the projectors I have used support a 1024X768 res.
Youcan also try a pram reset if it still does not detect.
Leave theproctor connected and powered up, power down the MBP.
Power back up the MBP and hold the following keys before you hear the start up chime:
Option, command, P,R (no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times. -
Why does Lightroom 4.3 use very high cpu when waiting for user to click OK?
I saved metadata for 52 photos.
Lightroom 4.3 couldn't save metadata for 2 of the photos and opened a window to tell me so. (It had no problem saving metadata on second attempt.)
While it waited for my response and wasn't doing any work, it was using over 50% of my CPU.
Why?

I have enough experience with LR to know what to expect for various activities.
Previews for all photos had been rendered long before I initiated the Save Metadata.
Metadata for 50 of the 52 files had already been written.
The high cpu had gone on for at least 5 minutes. I switched to another app imediately after initiating the Save Metadata for the 52 files and only went back to LR when I heard my CPU fan running for a long time.
When I got back to LR, I saw the "Could not save metadata" window. I clicked "Show in Library" and OK. As soon as I did that, CPU usage went back to normal.
I've experienced the exact same scenario, where LR can't save metadata for all photos and I've never had LR get stuck consuming a very large amount of CPU.
As a test, I selected 118 other photos, changed metadata for all of them and then selected all and saved metadata. LR took about 20 seconds to save metadata for all 118 and LR CPU usage never went above 17%. The difference is that LR did not show the "Could not save metadata" window. -
What is Safari Power Saver and why does it keep popping up?
On many sites I get a popup asking me to activate or install Safari Power Saver. I sometimes close the popup, more often just leave the site. Is there any danger to clicking ok? Is there any reason to do this? Is there any way to avoid this without turning off popups everywhere?

StanThanks! I still don't understand the concept of "saving power" in this context. Does that relate to a laptop running on battery, and some popups consume more battery power? Or does this refer to CPU capacity? I have never had any issue that I know of in these areas. I would understand the warning if it cautioned me about insufficient bandwidth, but that doesn't seem to apply here. In any case, am glad to find that this is a feature and not a bug.

i have an late '09 27" iMac upgraded to yosemite (I've accepted all upgrades from apple along the way). i have my alternating backgrounds & screensaver pointed at my iPhoto album. so why does a photo of half dome pop up occasionally? where is the photo stored? i have been to yosemite many times and do love the scenery there, but i'd like to be in charge of my screensaver. i've tried looking for the photo by name/name fragment, but of course, if apple doesn't want us to find it, we won't find it. i don't like apple preventing me from setting up background/screensaver to my liking. apple makes the computer for the rest of us.

Actually no. What I have always done was this: I have a collection of custom desktop pictures I made a custom folder for the pictures & placed them inside the Machintosh>Library>Desktop Pictures folder.
Then I went into System Preferences>Desktop & Screensaver>Desktop, clicked on the plus sign to add my custom picture folder.
Restarted my comp.
Never had any issues by doing the above. I have always done it this way since the Tiger OS.
