[VIA] Do I need a video card to make this MB run?

My MSI KM4M-V arrived today. It replaced a Shuttle motherboard I just could not make it show anything on the monitor.     I returned it as defective.  Well, I just installed my MSI and darn it, the same thing is happening.  Nothing shows on the monitor.
My son said I need a video card.  It has a monitor connection sticking out the back, so I assumed it came equipped to run a monitor.
Now, I'm not a pro at these things, but I followed the installation book to a tee.  And since is the second motherboard that has performed this way, I think it must me something I am doing wrong.   But what can it be?
I am assuming I can hook it right in and it wil run my old hard drive like they came together.  Am I wrong?  Must I format the drive and  run the software?     I can't load rhe software fi I can't see the monitor.
When pluged in and unconnected my monitor flashes a blue and white "please check video cable connection" message.  When I connect it to the MSI motherboard the flash stops.  So something is working.
Any suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.  My computer is devoted to genealogy and it's ben down for 2 months and I am very anxious to get it tuning again.

Save this reading till the power and beeps from Wonkanoby have been resolved. I think "used" is a relative thing...
No, if you plugged everything in while power was off it is alright.
Now comes the processor part, which one it was. This motherboard can hold most, but XP3000 and XP3200.
It is getting a bit late here, so I want to prepare you for some other things that might come up:
The seating of the processor is very important. This is best done while the motherboard is out of the case.
Between the motherboard and the case there are stand-offs. Too many is a bigger problem than too few.
You might even have to test-run the motherboard out of the case, to eliminate the risk of shorts.
What memory do you have? Stick of RAM, that is. Model and speed, please.
Off topic: I didn't know either, Wonkanoby, you used a 500W in a Shuttle - half should suffice. A new one for you, maybe: Too big a PSU. But it is one overstated, again: http://www.amamax.com/pomaxceb5020.html "+3.3V-24A, +5V-36A, +12V-16A"

  • I need a Video Card for Adobe Premiere Elements, what is recommended?

I wish to buy the Adobe Premiere Elements Video Editing. I shoot on a Cannon GL1 & GL3 mini dvd and need a video card to capture my video footage. What Video Card is recommended for use with the Premieire Elements software? and what is the price? Please advise...

Is the purchased Premiere Elements 12 still in its sealed packaging?
If you have not already, I would suggest that you install Premiere Elements 12 from the purchased installation disc
and evaluate its performance in your computer environment.
    a. Does the program fail to install?
    b. Do you get Display Card errors?
If you are worried about not being able to return 12 once the package is opened, then you can try the following
    a. Download the Premiere Elements 12 tryout files from the following web site and evaluate it as a tryout (full
    featured).
    http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-12-direct-download-links-premiere.html
Read and carry out carefully the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the web page to avoid Access Denied message.
    b. If the tryout performs well for you, then delete the tryout and install your purchased version with the purchased
serial number included on the packaging.
....other possibilities, but just the above for now.

  • Need a video card for Dual G5 w/ Apple 23" LCD

The ATI Radeon 9600 Pro AGP video card has died in my Dual G5 1.8GHz. I ordered the machine CTO with that card in October 2004 because I was doing some amateur video and graphics work.
Having changed career paths completely my big-bad Mac has been relegated to bookkeeper and web-surfer status so I no longer need any more video horsepower than is necessary to drive the Apple 23" LCD.
Please suggest a fair to good card I can get as a replacement, preferable at or near $100.
    Thanks for the help!!

Here is a selection of video cards which will all fit your particular model G5:

  • Help - Need OpenGL Video Card for G4 with ADC

OK, I've got a G4 with 1.8 GHz Dual Processors. I just upgraded from FCP 5.1 to FCP 6.0 and it tells me that FCP 6.0 doesn't like my video card because it "doesn't support OpenGL." So I need a new video card - problem is, my G4 Quicksilver utilizes an Apple Flat Screen with ADC connector. I really like the Studio Display and don't want to change it. Does anyone know of a video card with "OpenGL" (that will work with FCP 6.0) that also has a ADC connector????
    Thanks, Gilbert

As far as I'm aware, the Radeon 9000 is ATI's most powerful card with an ADC connector and the GeForce4 Titanium is nVidia's, although I don't think either supports Tiger's Core Image etc.
The following utility can monitor VRAM usage, which may help decide whether the 128MB version of the 9000 would be noticeably better:

  • G4 MDD Dual 1.25 - Aperture 2  - Do I need newer Video Card to run the app?

I am hoping someone can help steer me in the right direction. I spent all morning reading about Aperture 2, decided I must have it, downloaded the trial version and THEN found out my computer will not run it. When I try to install it, it says that I don't meet the minimum requirements but doesn't specify exactly what the problem is. The Aperture minimum requirements are confusing to me in that it says Power Mac G5 with Intel processor, BUT it says you can have a G4 Powerbook with a 1.25 GHz processor. My Powermac G4 has a 1.25 processor. Not sure if that is the problem or if it's my video card which is the standard ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. If I replace my video card will I be able to run Aperture 2? If so, which ones would be compatible with my older Mac? — Thanks, mark

  • I need a Video Card

I'm about to purchase a used Xserve G5 Cluster Node, which doesn't include a video card. I was wandering if anyone had any suggestions. I want something cheap and basic.

    Hi
ATI Rage Pro, ATI Rage 128, ATI Rage 128 GL. A quick search found these:
    http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=ATIRage128&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=190401346541215996&ei=obDGSZH8OpDRjAfLkMyZCw&sa=X &oi=productcatalogresult&resnum=4&ct=result#ps-sellers
If you have an older PowerMac G4 350Mhz/400Mhz hanging around (M7631 or M7826) you should be able to use the card that came with it.

  • Need compatible video card advice

I've got an msi 865pe neo fisr2 mobo. ati radeon 9700 pro has problems and is not compatible with my board. so, what from nvidia will be fully 100% compatible and compare in performance to the ati radeon 9700 pro or be slightly better? I'm thinking for price, $150-$200 at most.

I know it is not compatible cus i tried a GF 3 card with no issues. my brother in law has the same mobo and same card yet had the same problems. so that is incompatible. his card works fine on his older pc with different mobo, same for me. so i bought an nvidia card from leadtek. i dont trust ati and might not ever.
back when i first got the system built, i had the same problems. just i wasn't as upset because it was new. after time the same issues started getting on my nerves. i never not had issues. i always have, just at first it didn't bother me as much cus it was new, then after it got old i was poed at the issue. my brother in law same issues, got a new card for his pc and no problems. i tried an nvidia from my own pc and no problems. so the problem is the ati 9700 pro is not compatible with my motherboard nor my brother in laws. and my card is under warranty, it's already sent back to zipzoomfly, but since they have to wait 6 weeks or so from the date i sent it to them and will not exchange and i pay the difference on a new card or something, i am without a video card in this pc. they had to send back to ati, wait for ati to send them the thing, then send me the card. they said 2-3 weeks 3 weeks ago, and now tell me another 2 weeks or so. screw them. but i can't wait this long, so i got a new card, should be here tomorrow, will never open the radeon 9700 pro once i get it back and i will just sell it. also i know for fact this is fact cus an ati rep said this as well as someone else on these forums long time ago. with cerain radeon 9700 pro, it was not compatible and never would work reliably.
the problems are that the monitor would go black, the pc running still, frozen totally. had to reset the pc with the reset button on the case. also some other issues as well. reinstalling windows never fixed it, drivers never fixed it, only fix was a diff card. same issues on my brother in laws pc.

  • Need New Video Cards for 4 Displays

    Hi,
I want to install 4 displays, with one being a 30". Will the Radeon 9200 PCI, and 9600 pro work for this?
I saw that 9600pro only boots in "safe mode" but that's the only AGP card I can find that will run the 30".
Are there any PCI cards with two DVI ports?
    Thanks

    Hi-
Wouldn't getting the 9600 and a 9200 be the most cost effective?
Need two 9200's and one 9600 to connect 4 DVI displays. At around $400, it would be the cheapest. The 9200, though, will have minimal graphics acceleration and no Core Image support. Quartz Extreme is also not supported, unless hacked. Either the hack, or the lack of CI or QE support may affect software performance negatively.
Depending on the distance from the source computer, a signal booster may be required. 5 meters is the maximum a DVI signal can travel, but lesser powered cards may have difficulty at 10 feet (or less). If a booster were needed, a 9600 and a splitter would be better.
Wouldn't the splitter just mirror the output?
The splitter mirrors the output of the primary display +on the splitter+, not necessarily the card.
When you say "better" what do you mean? I won't be doing much 3D stuff and no gaming.
The linked cards support Core Image, Quartz Extreme, 30" ACD, and have power enough to send clean DVI signal farther.
Plus I can't find it new which is how I would prefer to buy it.
The Flashed PC cards are new. Because of the fact that they have been installed in a machine to flash the Mac ROM to them, eBay rules require that the card be listed as used.
New card prices are scary. See prices here.
    Slightly lower prices here.

  • Need better video card driver for Satellite A100

    Hi,
I got an old Toshiba Satellite A100... and I installed omega ATI drivers for better performance but its not working out, games crash due to overheating I believe...

omega ati is not in add/remove programs anymore nor do i go to it when i open screen properties...
it looks like its gona... altho i might be mistaken...
    2 questions...
1.i got cpuid hardware monitor...what is in acceptable temperature for processor for A100 series?
    2. is there another way to find out if omega is gone? ccleaner did not detect it ... or it was allready gone.

  • Do I need a RAID card to make a RAID configuration?

Now, I'm well aware that the subject heading above could be a very dumb question, so I will clarify it.
I have ordered my first Mac Pro. In trying to squeeze as much in the way of processing power, memory and hard disk space in with my limited budget, I opted not to go for the RAID card, at well over 500 quid.
As someone who is far from being a computer wizard, my question is, does the lack of said item mean I will not be able to set up a RAID configuration? (This pre-supposes of course, that I would be capable of doing it with one.) Or does it just make things easier? Assuming I need something do do this, is there a cheaper route?

It means that if you create a RAID set with two drives and want to add a third later, you will first have to copy elswhere the data on the two drives in question, destroy the RAID set, start over creating a three drive RAID set, then recopy the data if so wish.
it literally does not take a minute to set one up. You most certainly can do it. In disk utility, you click on the RAID button, select the two or three drives you want to use, they unmount, click create and a few seconds later, mounts a new volume.

  • Cnet review says imac has SHARED memory on the video card! Is this correct?

I was sure the imac had dedicated memory but:

    Is this reviewer correct?
I would have bet my life this wasn't true but he really seems to make a point of it in the banchmark notes.
    Kal

I don't know who started this rumour but it's spreading.
Those well known Apple lovers at GameSpot have produced an article about Boot Camp and running XP on an iMac.
    http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147437/index.html
It's not a bad article but has the following statement:
"The release of Boot Camp doesn't change our opinion of the iMac as a gaming system. No matter which OS you run, its weak ATI Radeon X1600 graphics chip, which shares memory with the system itself, isn't going to deliver high frame rates"
Oops! A bogus opinion fed by incorrect information.
Needless to say I put them right in their forum here:
