VIA drivers and MS-6368

I have difficulties keeping the board stable when running either with WinME or WinXP as soon as the VIA-drivers (either 4.45 or 4.43) are installed. Though I am wondering whether this is an issue for VIA or MSI, anyway here it goes:
After a short time when the VIA-drivers have been installed Win XP doesn't boot up telling me a certain file (CONTROL32? not sure) is missing, even impossible to start Safe Mode. This error message is on a black screen displaying the error message in white.
Similar unstable issues rise using WinME, on running WinME it displays many KERNEL32 errors.
Again, this only happens after having the VIA-drivers installed, without these both OS-es run smooth.
Having these issues I checked my RAM modules. I am using a 512Mb Kingston Valueram 133Mhz, but I also have a spare PQI 256Mb 133Mhz (used in another system), but both modules show similar results. Also after examining the BIOS and adjusting the CAS manually to 3 instead of SPD it comes with the same results. Booting up the PC shows either 512 or 256Mb of RAM (-8Mb shared ram) running at 133Mhz, so that should be all fine to me.
Next I checked my processor, which is a Celeron 1Ghz (Coppermine) and its temperature (according the BIOS) doesn't exceed the 35Degrees Celcius.
Some specs about the components I am using: PCB Revison 5, BIOS: 5.9, 20Gig Maxtor 5400rpm with amphenol cable on PRIMARY IDE MASTER, 300W power supply (190 effective), Hitachi DVD with a regular IDE-cable on SECONDARY IDE MASTER. There aren't any PCI cards installed.
It's not a problem of utmost importance since I am able to run WinXP without any problems not using the VIA drivers, but some performance is lost of course.
Maybe someone has a view on this matter?

you probably won't believe me but i got the opportunity using a 7200rpm ibm hard drive thus I ghosted the 5400 rpm maxtor to this ibm drive, things got worse.
Thanks for the info about connecting the IDE-cable, don't worry it was connected properly. ;-D
Will do one more effort next week or so reformatting the whole thing with this new ibm drive, but I don't expect any improvements. Really have no clue why it's acting like this.

  • New VIA Drivers and Live-Update

I noticed the latest VIA drivers are not yet available for download using MSI's Live Update prgram. Is it ok to download them seperately from the official VIA site? Or should I just wait for the Live Updater to get them?
    Just Wondering...

     :D
I only used Live Update for a limited time ... mostly because there was too much time between launching an new driver and the driver becoming available through Live Update. The VIA drivers are available for more than a week, I think.

  • MSI K9A Platinum and VIA drivers issue? XP 0x0000007B stop error.

I get a Windows Stop error when trying to boot into Windows XP with new components. The SATA hard drive (and Windows XP installation) is from the old computer.
    The new computer components are:
MB: MSI K9A Platinum, chipset: RD580 (North Bridge), SB600 (South Bridge)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+, boxed (the cooler and fan came with the CPU).
    Video: MSI Radeon 1950 XTX
The old (and working) computer setup is:
    OS: XP Professional
    MB: Abit AV8-3rd Eye, chipset: VIA K8T800Pro + VT8237
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    Video: Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro All-in-Wonder, videodriver: atidvag.dll version 6.14.10.6542
HD: Maxtor 6B200M0 SCSI Disk Device
    BIOS: Phoenix 6.00PG 20.04.2005
System drivers with "via" in the name: VIAAGP1.SYS, viaide.sys, viasride.sys
VIA 4in1 (Hyperion) version: 4.55 (that can be found at HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Via4in1Driver).
VIA 2.20e SATA/RAID driver was used when installing this computer setup.
    The precise stop error is:
    0x0000007B (0xba4c3528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
From many sites I have gathered that the error is related to Windows XP not being able to access a critical system drive. Most probably the SATA hard drive issue.
The problem probably is the VIA drivers of the old motherboard and/or the SATA driver.
First I should mention, that MSI K9A Platinum does not have a hard disk SATA driver. If it does, I have been unable to find one. Certainly no such floppy disk included, and no such driver in the MSI's Web page for this motherboard.
Second important point: I never used RAID. I did use VIA 2.20e SATA/RAID driver disk when installing Windows XP to the old computer.
Strange that the hard drive model is reported as a "SCSI Disk Device". It's not a SCSI drive however: it's a SATA disk.
I have tried to uninstal the motherboard chipset drivers (Hyperion v4.55), but there seems to be a bug here: the drivers should be uninstalled using the installation program, and select the uninstall option. However, I do not get the uninstallation option to choose at all! Yes, I'm using the normal installation mode, not the quick installation (although tried that, too). The Hyperion setup program just installs, and asks to reboot the computer. After rebooting and trying again, it still does not offer me an uninstallation choise.
I know how to install hard drive VIA SATA driver, but I have no idea how to uninstall it. And I'm afraid to do that without certainty that it IS the solution, since I could not access the hard drive any more in the old computer setup (and return to read this forum). Also, I do not have a floppy drive any more. Anyone know if there is an issue with K9A and XP having VIA SATA driver installed?
When I tried the new computer setup, I first tried the simplest possible hardware combination: there were no CD/DVD-drives, no (parallel)IDE hard drives, and no PCI cards, except the MSI video adapter.
My BIOS Setup experiments. None of these helped: got the same stop error each time.
    1) I didn't much touch the BIOS setting first. Just tried to boot with the settings BIOS came with.
    2) Next I disabled the integrated audio, LAN and IEE1394 devices and floppy drive and disabled all other choises except the SATA drive as a boot device.
    3) Next I tried with the fail-safe BIOS defaults.
    4) Cleared CMOS.
    5) Changed OnChip SATA type from Native IDE to Legacy IDE. (Only one boot attempt with the setting as Legacy.)
    6) Disabled PCI IDE BusMaster.
    7) Never touched anything in the Cell Menu: so the settings are in minimum.
A step I have taken after the last attempt: run Windows XP hard drive error-checking tool to every logical drive with the fix option selected, and the system drive also with scan the bad sectors option selected.
    My plans next are:
    1) to install a newer Hyperion driver. If that would correct the no-unistallation-choice-bug,
    2) to disable USB-devices in the BIOS (desperate),
    3) to choose the Windows general video display driver (although I seriously doubt this is a display driver problem!).
    4) to uninstall the Anti-Virus software (Avira Antivir).
I've read a numerous Web pages so far about the 0x0000007B stop error. Here are some links:

    Stop 0x0000007B or INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
This Stop message, also known as Stop 0x7B, indicates that Windows XP Professional lost access to the system volume or boot volume during the startup process. This error always occurs while the system is starting and is often caused by one of the following:
        * Hardware problems
        * Corrupted or incompatible storage drivers
        * File system problems
        * Boot sector viruses
        * Outdated firmware
During I/O system initialization, this error can occur when:
        * The controller or driver for the startup device (typically the hard disk) failed to initialize the necessary hardware.
        * File system initialization failed because the system did not recognize the data on the boot device.

You receive a Stop 0x0000007B error after you move the Windows XP system disk to another computer
    SYMPTOMS
After you move the Microsoft Windows XP system (boot) disk to a backup computer, you may receive the following Stop error when you try to start the Windows XP-based backup computer:
    STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF741B84C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
    CAUSE
This error may occur if the registry entries and the drivers for the mass storage controller hardware in the backup computer are not installed in Windows XP.
    RESOLUTION
To resolve this error, use the same hardware for the backup computer.
Heh, heh! Very nice Microsoft, but I plan to update my computer, so I NEED to use different components

    Device Driver Issues
You may receive a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message in the following scenarios:
    •   A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is not configured to start during the startup process.
    •   A device driver that the computer boot controller needs is corrupted.
    •   Information in the Windows XP registry (information related to how the device drivers load during startup) is corrupted.
    Hardware Issues
You may receive a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message if there is a resource conflict between the boot controller and another controller or between SCSI devices. You may also receive this Stop error message if drive translation is not being performed or if drive translation was changed. To troubleshoot this issue:
    1.   If an IRQ or I/O port address conflict exists between the boot controller and another controller, Windows XP either stops responding (hangs) or displays a "Stop 0x0000007B" error message. If you recently added new hardware, remove the new hardware or reconfigure it so that it does not conflict with the resources of any other installed controllers.
    2.   If you are using a SCSI hard disk, check the SCSI chain for correct termination. Remove any unused SCSI devices or make sure that each SCSI ID is unique.
    3.   Make sure that drive translation is turned on (if it is required) and that it has not been changed. For example, if you recently switched controllers, this issue may occur. When you start your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer after you replace the motherboard on the computer, you may receive a Stop error message that is similar to the following:
    STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE
    CAUSE
This issue may occur if the new motherboard contains an embedded IDE controller that has a different chipset than the original motherboard.
    RESOLUTION
Method 1: Perform an in-place upgrade of Windows XP [<- That means repair installation of Windows XP]
    •   Do not use a repair or in-place upgrade if you suspect disk problems.
Method 2: Repartition and format your hard disk and reinstall Windows XP

Alright I got the situation over.

I did try all all the above, and none of them helped.
And by the way: after installing the new Hyperion (VIA chipset drivers), I was finally able to also uninstall. It also uninstalled the IDE SATA (I think) and PATA drivers.
But what I had to do, was to make a REPAIR installation of Windows XP.
So, I was wondering now afterwards: this is really, really silly. Why the hell we need to re-install Windows if we move the SYSTEM SATA drive to another computer? We don't have similar problem with parallel IDE drives. Whom should we thank here??
The issue is to insert the driver files and the information of the ide drivers Windows should use with the next boot. How can it be this difficult?
    What you basically need is..
    - the information about the new chipset's PCIIDE.SYS/[VENDOR_PROVIDED_FILE].SYS and ATAPIIDE.SYS inserted into the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSetXXX\Control\CriticalDeviceDatabase
    - and the vendor's IDE drivers to the %SYSTEMROOT%/System32/drivers folder.
Maybe something else, I don't know. But the problem was, Windows didn't know how, or what drivers to use. That can't be so big problem you need to install the whole OS anew!

  • Via 4 in 1 Drivers and Bios for KT6 Delta

Below is my current setup.  My machine either freezes or shuts down when I try to install the Via 4 in 1.  Any suggestions?
Also, what Bios should I load?  I've heard of problems with the most recent release.
What is everyone else using and what do you recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you have installed the right VIA drivers (they're are different driver types for different system setups)? Sounds like you have put on the wrong VIA drivers.
The VIA drivers that you should use can be found on the MSI website:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=474
Always look under the driver section and you will find all the suitable and current driver updates for VIA chipsets for your motherboard.
    Hope that helps, Richard.

You don't need to download the Windows support software, because in Snow Leopard, they are only available as a download for the Late 2010 MacBook Air.
Instead, you have to buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The Snow Leopard disc contains the Windows drivers for your Mac, so you have to install them after finishing the Windows installation

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do

    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

On a side note, I have already flashed the BIOS to 1.4 using the Forum USB Flashing Tool (thanks!).

    Thanks.
After booting from the Windows 7 disc, I selected Repair Windows, Load Drivers. Which specific controllers do I need to install for the P55-CD53 MB since there are multiple controllers listed for each of the four SATA compressed files?
Considering the multiple files and multiple controllers, is there no one out there with a P55-CD53 that has AHCI mode enabled that can give dumbed down instructions on how to do so?
The manual states "Select the appropriate RAID controller and press enter." Well... which one is the appropriate controller? Am I suppose to load the driver for all the AHCI controllers if that's even possible?
For the Intel P55 AHCI / RAID Drivers compressed file, these are the controllers available within F6flpy64\iaAHCI.inf:
    Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) ICH 10D/DO SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) ICH10R SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller

    Intel(R) ICH8R/DH/DO SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller
    Intel(R) PCH SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 4 Port
Intel(R) PCHM SATA AHCI Controller 6 Port
Also, regarding the dual BIOS controls for SATA/IDE/RAID settings previously mentioned, I believe SATA ports 1-6 are controlled via Intel and 7,8 are controlled via Jmicron. Considering my HDD is currently plugged into SATA 1, Jmicron probably isn't necessary for the moment.
    Edit:
Turns out that none of the drivers for the controllers listed in iaAHCI.inf could be installed. However, I went ahead and installed the drivers listed for all the controllers in iaStor.inf. I reinstalled Windows 7 to get rid of the BSOD. I then installed the chipset drivers and Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

  • How to Install ATI drivers and apps using MDT 2010

Hi, I am a greenhand for the Windows7 deployment via MDT.
I am currently facing an issue, I downloaded the ATI drivers from Dell Offical website (I am using Dell laptop), they I extracted the driver files using the 7zip, then imported the files to the MDT Out-of-box drivers, but this could only import the driver files,
for the application, MDT couldnot import.
Is there anyway to import the both Drivers and App of the ATI together to MDT, thus when deploying the windows, the drivers and app of ATI can be installed along with the Windows OS.

I have down loaded printer, scanner drivers and 2 applications Navigator and Network from Canon's website. I cannot seem to get these to run althought the printer works when connected to the Mac with a LAN cable Canon's documentation is useless because it relies on downloading a disc which you cannot do without a CD drive that MacBook Air does not have. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
    - ICA Driver V4.0.0
    - Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
    Thanks

  • When will WIndows 8 64-bit drivers and apps be available for download

It's a bit frustrating that I can't get Windows 8 drivers and applications for my Satellite P775 because of a buggy Windows 8 Update Assistant: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=68918&tstart=0
I'm happy to download and install the relevant components manually. Do you plan to make these available for download and if so when? The web site did indicate that they would be available in time for the Windows 8 release - which is today.

Hi JoeJoe as far as I know all notebooks which were shipped with the Win 7 and are part of the Win 8 Upgrade Assistant will get the Win 8 drivers via this Upgrade Assistant. All newer notebooks series which are already shipped with the Win 8 will be able to download the drivers manually
Furthermore other it seems that Win 8 drivers will be released in three different steps
Step 1 - Toshiba Upgrade Assistant Release: 26.10.2012
Step 2 - Toshiba Upgrade Assistant Release: 21.11.2012
Step 3 - Toshiba Upgrade Assistant Release: 07.12.2012

  • Vista looking for drivers and BSODs

I bought a 3TB MyCloud device a few months ago. I cannot get it to work properly with my Windows Vista desktop and support refused to help. They remoted in and accessed the device without using their software and claimed it was a Windows problem, not theirs. When I connect the device directly to my Ubee Wireless Router/Switch, Windows Vista immediately sees it as new hardware and tries to find drivers for it. Of course WD does not provide these. In Device Manager, it shows up under Other Devices with a warning indicator because there are no drivers installed. I was able to copy files to the device, but when I try to access them from the device, my Windows Vista desktop gets a BSOD (this happened after the call to support). I've now disconnected the device from my network as the constant BSODs damaged my computer. The device works with my Windows 8.1 computer, but has problems with my Sony Blu-Ray player connected wirelessly to the network. I've posted about this in a different thread. Is there a way to get this working properly with Windows Vista?

    Bennor wrote:
The BSOD that other thread talks about appears to be related to using one of the WD apps, my guess is the WD My Cloud Desktop app on their Windows PC. There is a known issue for some who use the WD My Cloud Desktop app where once that app is opened, some users experience Windows Explorer crashing. There is one or two other threads covering this very specific Windows Explorer crashing issue related to that WD My Cloud Desktop app that affects a few users. Generally one does not need to install "drivers" to access the WD My Cloud. One should be able to access the WD My Cloud on their local network via Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer). It will show up in the "Network Neighborhood" or under "Network". If it is not showing up under Network then check the network settings on both the Vista PC, ensuring it has the same Network Name/Network Workgroup (typically "workgroup") that the WD My Cloud uses under "Settings -> Network -> Network Workgroup". The other recommended suggestion is to configure the WD My Cloud for a static IP. Either within the WD My Cloud administration UI or within one's router/gateway. Both the Vista PC and the WD My Cloud should be in the same IP address subnet (for example both should have an IP address in the 192.168.1.x range). If you have not done so read through the WD My Cloud User Manual in particular "Using Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7" under "Getting to the Public Share" for the general procedure of accessing the WD My Cloud shared folders with Windows Explorer on Windows Vista. You and I are worlds apart on this issue. Your solution doesn't relate to my problem. I did not have a problem getting to or seeing the device in Vista. There were two problems and I believe I've cured both of them, though I don't know how. Problem 1: Vista keeps asking for drivers. When I connected the device to my network, Vista would see the device and try to locate drivers as if it had found a new printer. It couldn't find any so I had to close the driver request windows without finding drivers. The device then would show up in Device Manager under Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark indicating the drivers were not loaded correctly. After several BSODs (for a different issue), I ran SFC and CHKDSK on my computer. Neither program found a problem. Then when I tried to connect the device again, Vista started looking for drivers and I walked away from the computer for the evening. When I had come back, it said the drivers were loaded. In Device Manager, Vista shows a new device category named "Western Digital NAS" with two devices installed: My Cloud Network Media Server and My Cloud Network Storage. The driver problem is now solved but I don't know how. Problem 2: Files I had loaded onto the shares to learn how to use the device can be seen in Windows Explorer. That was never a problem. However, as soon as I clicked on a file, the screen would scramble and then BSOD. This only occurred with files loaded onto the MyCloud device. After some blue screens, I started up into Safe Mode with Networking. I was able to click on the files without crashing, though Media Player wouldn't play them or even start in Safe Mode. I then did a clean boot and it tested okay. As I added items in MSCONFIG, the problem would not recur. There was one item that prevented me from even setting MSCONFIG to do a normal startup, and that was Kaspersky Internet Security 2015. Not only that, but I couldn't start the software at all. I did a complete removal of Kaspersky and then reinstalled it. I no longer have any BSODs. Both issues, as mysterious as they were, have mysteriously been resolved. I have a DLNA issue, but that's in another post. I also have a new issue with the WD My Cloud desktop app but I don't need to use that and if I do, I'll start a new discussion.

  • N95, Vista drivers and media player mode

HI, Sorry to double post but I'm new to this forum and not sure where this should go. I got a new N95, I installed the older version of PC suite that came on the disc with the phone. I then updated to the latest version. .83 . It works fine with PC suite I can sync things transfer files etc, however I cant use it in data transfer or media player mode (it keeps searching for drivers it cant find). These are the only modes I am interested in. This is on a fairly new laptop with Vista ultimate installed. However I tried it on another computer in my house with Vista Home Premium installed, however this time I didn't install any extra software and it detected the phone in both data transfer and media player mode without any problems.
So I'm guessing that it installed something to mess it up when I installed the original version of PC Suite. PC Suite cleaner says it isn't vista compatible but I ran it in XP compatibility mode and it appeared to do something, but I have un-installed all versions of PC Suite and it still has the same problem, I cant use system restore as it kept setting restore points whenever it installed a part of PC suite and I ran out of system restore points. So please tell me how can I get it back to normal. It looks like I'm not the only one here with a similar problem, someone must know something, Id be really grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

yes, I do have same problem but I'm using N80 and winxp home, media player version 11, can anyone help us thankx
I can help I think. I just spent all afternoon yesterday with this problem and my conclusion is that in spite of what Nokia says somewhere in the installation documentation about the Media Player driver for WMP 10 working with WMP 10 "or above", it does not work with WMP 11, and if you want this functionality you will have to roll back to WMP 10 from WMP 11.
I think this may not be an option for Vista users, but for WinXP SP2 and an N80ie such as I have, here is what happened to me.
I had WMP 11 and I downloaded the driver for WMP 10 from here.
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4237039
I then connected the N80ie to the PC using the C series cable that came with the phone, and when the Found New Hardware Wizard started I browsed to the location of the driver file and it announced that it had installed it, and I had to reboot. Whenever I would reboot, or even without rebooting, the Found New Hardware Wizard kept opening again, and again, and again and would seemingly have never stopped opening.
Now in retrospect I see that I wasn't installing it according to the directions, which say to right click on the WMP 10 driver file and choose "Install", but I don't think that would work any better if I had.
In the end, I rolled back to the Version of WMP that was on the machine when I installed WinXP (which was WMP 9) and then upgraded it to WMP 10.
Then following the directions for installation this time, I right clicked on the WMP 10 driver file, installed it, and it works fine.
If you open WMP 10 and choose Sync, and if the N80ie is connected via cable and Media Player mode, you will be able to choose it at the top of the right hand pane of the Sync display in WMP 10 and see the files on yor N80 plus (if the directions are correct and I understand them correctly... I haven't tried it) copy files in one direction from WMP 10 to your N80.
One thing I did differently than the rollback instructions call for... if you check here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx
Step 15 under "Rolling back to a previous version of the Player" says "Click Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0.0" and then click "Remove".
I found that I had "Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.5" installed instead of 1.0.0 and when I clicked "Remove" I got dialog box that said if I removed it a whole list of programs might not work anymore, including but not only Nokia PC Suite, and Nokia Software Updater. So I elected NOT to remove "Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.5", and everything seems to work OK in spite of my not doing that.
    Hope this helps.
I think that Nokia needs to come out with an updated driver for WMP 11 or Vista users are out of luck if they can't roll back to WMP 10, and us XP users will have to stay on WMP 10 until that happens if we want this feature to work on our N80's.
    Best Regards,
    Dave

  • Question about Via drivers

I've been using PCs since '94 but am still learning....
How do I know if my system has the latest Via 4-in-1 (4.43.) drivers installed?  I'm using OS WIN ME....
    Thanks in advance....

maybe it is possible to use the program 'msi live update 2' to check which via drivers you are using at the moment and which are the newest to download according MSI.
you can download the program here http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/liveupdate/main.htm
after download/install you can use the program to check which via driver is the newest online and by the way you can see which via driver you are using at the moment.
