Sorry, I missed the first line about it not posting.      Sleepy, I guess.
Swapping parts like the video card between the two systems will eliminate that possibility since it could be power supply or cpu or video card that stops the boot process before it can initialize the hard drive controller.
Please furnish us more information about what parts are in the system?  Create a profile containing info similar to I have in mine.  The info will make troubleshooting much easier.
hi mate, thanks for the fast replies.
i had done all the sweaping of parts from one system to another. as for the power supply is a new one.
my system is using MSI KT3 Ultra 2 (MS-6380) running on CPU AMD 2100+
Ram is Kingston PC2700 333Mhz 512MB.
A Maxtor HDD 40Gig.
A creative Sound Card.

  • KT3 Ultra Problem

Ever since I've had my MSI KT3 Ultra my mic has been said to have "an annoying staticy sound in the background." Does anyone know a quick solution to get rid of the static?

First of all, I think you should assess the extent of the problem by arranging to listen to this "staticy sound" yourself. Some people are perfectionists, and the problem may actually be very minor. If you are using the microphone for simple things like voice chatting, then you don't need crystal clear sound. Perhaps you will find te problem not worth bothering with. If ou are using it to record songs, that is a completely different matter.
If you can borrow a better, or at least a different microphone, try it. That may sort out whether the problem is from the microphone or the board. Check that you installed the correct drivers.
Just a word of warning. If in the end you opt for installing a soundcard, some of which are quite cheap now, pay attention to the comon problems experienced when installing a Soundblaster on a Via-based motherboard. In my case I solved the problems of skipping and crackling sounds from a SB4.1 when listening to music, but at the expense of using only two speakers.

  • [VIA] KT3 ULTRA - XP shutsdown properly but PC keeps running

Has anyone ever heard of this problem?  Whenever I shutdown Windows XP with 'Turn Off Computer' option, the system shuts down properly and the screen goes blank - HOWEVER, the PC keeps running and produces 3 short beeps over and over.  I then have to turn off the power switch on the POWER SUPPLY in order to shut it down.
When I switch the power supply back on, I can then reboot normally.

    AMD XP 1900
not sure of my chipset - this was a barebones non-branded system
    Thanks!

I never got around to removing the mobo and all that.  Instead, I've finally got it to quit restarting after reading the info listed on the following site:  http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php
"Disabling the “restart on system failure” feature may permit the exact cause to be isolated: Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart.”
By now, the Roxio/Adeptec Easy CD / Direct CD software is well documented as being the major cause of this undesirable shutdown behavior. SOLUTION: Roxio has released new drivers (here) to solve this problem in both the Platinum and Basic editions of Easy CD Creator 5. As expected, at least half of the Win XP shutdown problems went away with the release of these patches."
I have Easy CD software on this box so this just may be the cause of my problem.  I'm going to uninstall it and set the "restart on system failure" feature back to original setting to see if this truly resolves my problem.

  • KT3 Ultra problems.

So I've been experiencing some oc problems with my MSI KT3 Ultra. (Rig in Sig) I've been trying to get my AGKGA AXP 1800+ higher than 1.67 without success for weeks now. I thought maybe that the new v5.6 BIOS for the KT3 Ultra would fix my problems. Boy was I wrong.
Upon installation of the new BIOS, everything goes perfectly without interuption or problem. I proceed to restart the computer after installation is completed.
Much to my surprise, the computer will not POST. On the D-Bracket diagnostic LEDs, it gives me the message that there is something wrong with the memory.
    1  X(    3
    2  X(   X(  4
I tried switching banks, still no post. I tried resetting the BIOS, still no post.  I also tried a working stick of Crucial pc2100 (ddr266), but the same problem still exists.
Have any of you had this problem with the v5.6 BIOS? Do you think that the BIOS was hosed somehow?
All I know is that this problem is making me crazy. I think after this bout with my KT3 Ultra, it is time to replace it. I've had way too many headaches to warrant keeping it.
    Thank you for your help...:P

    Hi again,
Agree with "Wonkanoby", should remove the battery before shorting the CMOS reset jumper. Have to be careful when you remove it though, can't come into contact with your skin otherwise the various fatty acids contained on your skin will ultimately cause problems. Just use a latex surgical glove or similar or wrap your fingers in gladwrap, just as good.
By removing the battery you shouldn't need to have the jumper on for more than 5 seconds to completely drain the charge in CMOS. After that, remove the shorting jumper to it's storage position and replace the battery then follow the restoration procedure to normal to allow startup, etc. Best of luck,
    Dimal.

  • Still got kt3 ultra problem

i posted back on saturday about my cd problem.
i have now bought a decent antec power supply with tons of power but it still will not work.
the problem is that when i try to use a dvd or cd burner to install anything i get the "installshield setup launcher has encoutered a problem"error. it also will not autoplay.
i am using windows xp and i can get a normal cdrom to work.
the other problem is my alcatel usb modem. it just won't sync with the motherboard. it looks like it is going to work but then it switches off and starts again.
i have upgraded the bios, windows xp and have all up to date drivers for everything.
i have tried every possible setting in the bios, swopped cpu, swopped memory, swopped graphic card, swopped several different cd burners/dvd and tried 3 power supplys which the current one has 245w combined.
anybody got any ideas i am totally lost.
    many thanks

Put your CD-ROMs in PIO mode and NOT in DMA mode (go to the driver properties of the CD-ROMs). Override the "DMA if available..." with PIO mode. Will this fix the problem for you?

Well I use to have a CreativeLive sound card from the begining so at the begining the sound on  board was disable. But now I have a second computer and I put the creative on that one and I want to enable the sound, this is the point when the big surprise show up.
I have 2 MSI cd's one from this motherbordand one from an older one. When I lunch this cd on the driver section of the autorun I have only a Realtek Network adapter (which I have one already instaled), but if I browse the CD I can find a sound/via/4****? directory with a setup file. If I lanch the install it says "you don't have a Via Cipset" well it's a preaty BIG via on it. If I use the old cd I have 3 options one via cipset drivers 1 realtek network and one Via Audio Drivers but bought via drivers are disable like they are already instaled. If I lanch the Via Audio Drivers says "The VIA chipset is disable please run BIOS and Enable it" or somthing like that, so as I see it it's a BIG problem with the BIOS or the Hardware.
sorry for this to long story

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • KT3 Ultra-ARU SB Live! problem when using onboard Promise MBFasttrak 1

    Hello !
I have one little problem with my motherboard. I know it's a little bit older compared to today's MSI production.. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU motherboard. I used only VT8233A southbridge's IDE until now, and everything worked perfectly. But now, I bought two Maxtor 80GB disks and placed them to a onboard Promise MBFasttrak 133 Lite (PDC20276) RAID in stripping mode. Everything works, except Soundblaster Live!. The soundcard itself works normally, but when I start to copy some files (and have some MP3's or video's running) the audio gets distorted in rythm with data transfer. I checked IRQs or address spaces, but IDE is on another IRQ than any other device, the same is address space. Had anyone the same experience with this "problem" ? Please let me know...
    My configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
    256MB RAM DDR 333
    2x Maxtor DiamondMax 9 80.0GB
    nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
    ATi TVWonder
    RTL8029 ethernet card
    SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
    Teac CD-E540 cd-rom
    Sony DRU-190A cd-rw

    Hi,
I think you should install at least the VIA RPP patch (http://www.viaarena.com), maybe also the patch from http://www.georgebreese.com.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU + All In Wonder Problem

I've got a odd problem that is related to putting my machine into Standby.  If I do so the night before, then wake the system up in the morning I see issues that point to memory corruption or driver failure or a conflict with the VIA chipset.  Outlook Express will lock up on launch, the ATI digital VCR app will either not launch or fail to shutdown if it does.  I clean installed Windows XP, then updated it with XP SP1.  Of note is that the video card works ok with the OS supplied driver but if you install the ATI drivers (which are needed to make the TV and Digital VCR work) this stuff happens.  I have reinstalled several times so I am pretty sure this isn't just a messy config issue.  I've had bad experiences similar to this with VIA chipset mobos in the past so this doesn't surprise me.
Anyone ever see this?  Know of a fix?

  • Sound problems with KT3 ultra

    Hello All
    I have a KT3 Ultra, WinXP Pro, LG CD-RW (HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B ), 512 Mb DDR Ram etc.
My problem is that when i rip cd's to MP3 i lose all sound. This has happened with Easy CD-DA and Exact Audio Copy.
If I go into AC'97 Audio config all speakers seem to work exept the Front Left and Right. But this seems to stop them all from playing any audio.
Reinstalling AC'97 fixes it but it's a bit annoying.
    Audio driver : 5.10.0.3840
    Audio controller : VIA 3059
    AC97 Codec : ALC650
    Any help appreciated

I think i solved it by installing the 5.10.0.4050 drivers.

  • KT3 Ultra 2 with Inno3d NVIDIA Geforce2 mx400 problems

    Having multiple problems playing games.
Get this in event viewer (below) or the application will crash or get
    DSOD.
    STOP 0x0A, 0x01E, and 0x50 Errors. (IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)

    Description:
    Idle Timeout Error Channel 00000001.
Some times it also complains about specific files such as ntoskernl.exe or nv4_disp.dll, but more often than not it wont complaine about files on the BSOD.
Tried all drivers and drivers from NVIDIA (including generic).
Read loads of forums about changing "Advanced Chipset features" in BIOS and
downloading the latest via chipset drivers and running 3dmark benchmarks which crashes to desktop eventually.
BIOS has been flashed with the latest from the website.
I have run system diagnostics to make sure memory / processor are not
    faulty which they are not.
I have even re-installed my OS to make sure there are no corruption but I still get the same problems.
This happens on multiple games. I have also installed the NVIDIA version of
graphics card which I borrowed and had exactly the same problem.
    Here is my PC details:-
    AMD Athlon 2100XP
    MSI - KT3 Ultra 2 motherboard.
Dane Elec 256mb DDR 2100 ram
    120GB WD HDD
    Inno3d NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX400 with 64MB
    HP CDRW
    DVD ROM
    With a 400w power supply.
All my hardware is approved for use with AMD processors with higher spec's than mine.
Based on the fact that I have used another NVIDIA card in my PC plus rebuilding the OS, and got the same problems, I would say that there is a problem with the motherboard or BIOS settings.
I'm more inclide to think it the motherboard as I have tried lots and lots of variations.
Are there any tools to check the motherbaord?
Has anyone come across these problems? I know that the games themselves can sometimes cause these, but I have checked to make sure I have patches installed and checked forums to see if other people suffer the same thing. But they don't.
And 3dmark which crashes to the desktop whilst running through the tests must be another indication of problems. (Already checked for patches for 3dmark too)
I know this is a forum, but i can't seem to find an offical way to complain to MSI. If any one knows, please send us a link!

It looks as though this could be one of those classic cases where it could simply be overheating.
I purchased a AXP2100BOX product when I first built my PC. This is an AMD package that contains the processor and the heatsink.
However through my painstaking troubleshooting tactics, I think that the problem is where it overheats.
The reason that first lead me to think that it could be this is because I downloaded the MSI core centre application and click on the Auto button. By doing this, the software automatically overclocks the processor, bumping up the FSB slowly. Eventually, it blue screens. I read somewhere that this is normal, just restart and the MSI software will now know what limits there are for over clocking.
Well the error code that I got from the blue screen it produced, was not that different from the errors I get whist playing games.
    IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
The error codes were different but it was still the same IRQ message.
So I had a look around on the web to find out as much as possible about AMD's overheating and stumbled across reviews for " AXP2100BOX ", the processor/heatsink box product. All the reviews I came across said that there was a problem with overheating. I did check out reviews before I purchased the box product, but at the time it was fairly new.
According to the AMD website, my processor is guaranteed to run up to 100'C.
Now my processor runs at about 65'C on load, BUT this reading is from the fan on top of the heatsink, not the processor itself.
So that's the theory so far. So can anyone recommend this biggest, bestest, and probably the most noisiest, heatsink you can buy.
I'm also looking into changing my case as there are some nifty air shifters out there.
Check this link out for the ultimate cooling solution. (Get your wallet out!)

  • DirectX Problem KT3 Ultra + GForce ti 4600

    Hello,
I am experiencing serious problems with DirectX (both the built in 8.1 and 9.0b) under XP professional on a computer with the following configuration:
    MSI KT3 Ultra (MS6380E) Mainboard
MS StarForce GForce4 Ti 4600 Series graphics adapter (it says somthing like N1996 on the board itself near the ce logo, but any help for identifying the board is apprciated)
I tried every driver I could lay my hands on including older ones like 27.20k, 41.07xp and newer ones like 4345xp or 45.23 (directly from nvidia). Both system and VGA bios have been updated and I downloaded every patsch available from microsoft. I reinstalled my systm from scratch several times while trying ut different combinations. I solved a potential IRQ conflict (built in USB to PCI bridge and graphics adapter both on IRQ 16). I ran across some third party patch called via latency patch wich did not help noticably either.  I tried experimenting with different settings for the refresh rates for the monitor an limitng the DirectX refresh rate to 75, 65 or 60 Hz to no avail.
Frankly, I am at a loss on how to proceed from here. I reeached a state in the configuation of the system where the problems are "only" the following:
dxdiag hangs sometimes during the 8.1 and 9.0 tests of direct 3D. Darc Age of Camelot experiences hangups, flickering objects, clutter and some artifacts as well as loss of connection to the server (although my internet connect is unafected) during play depending on how much I reduce the acceleration of the card. On the lowest level of acceleration (no direct 3D) I do not have graphic problems but everything runs so slow it's no use playing at all.
    Please help!
    Andreas

I did install the 4 in 1 driver early on in the process (must have forgotten to mention it in my post). Just to make sure that I did not miss it in the current installation I reinstalled it again. No major change.
It seems that the behavior is somewhat eratic. After reinstalling the driver the system (or rather the game) ran for a couple of minutes before it started to freeze again for a couple of seconds each time with increasing frequency of those freezes. Upon leaving the game I noticed again certain flickering objects wich definitely did not flicker when I started. In short the situation got worse with time.
Since I often tried a lot of things in a row (to no lasting effect) and I think I had the best results after starting afresh after thinking some time about it (with the system switched off) I am starting to wonder if I have a thermal problem or something similar.
So I did a few tests with the side panel open but I do not think the temperatur is really that high (it's "hand warm" inside).
    Any further suggestions?
    Andreas

  • Odd video problem with KT3 Ultra 2-r and GeForce4Ti4400

I don't know if I should post this on the VIA forum or on the VGA forum, so I'm gonna post on both. sorry.
My system specs are on my signature, and anyways, here's my problem.
When I turn on my PC, the monitor shows jaggy white lines all over the screen (as if the refresh rate / resolution was too high) instead of showing the GeForce BIOS (right before the POST).
This is weird, since a year ago, when I got my MSI nForce/ MSI GeForce4 Ti4400, this wasn't a problem. And now I have KT3 Ultra 2 and MSI GeForce4 Ti4400 Chapmionship edition, and I do.
Not only that, but most of the times when I restart my PC, my monitor goes into POWER SAVING mode instead of showing the POST and Loading Windows screen.
I even try to go into the BIOS while the monitor is in powersave mode and it does go in, but the monitor is dead.
The monitor comes back to life as soon as it reaches the WindowsXP logon screen. But like I said, it goes into powersave mode as soon as I restart and until it reaches the WinXP logon screen.
I mean, this is a minor problem, but its a pain in the ass!!!!
Whenever I'm trying to tweak the BIOS, it will often times do this, and even if I turn the monitor off, unplug it from the PC, unplug it off the wall, when I plug it back in, it still is in powersaving mode, even though the PC is running.
    HELP!

No, my Ti4400 is not the Champ ed. The actual model number on it is 8871 ver-1.00. You can read about my problem's in the "Have you seen this?....." thread on this forum (page 7 now I think)
I haven't had a problem in the last couple days though. I removed some Reg tweaks (this is a DAW box) and ....dont luagh, turned up the heat in my house. I'm not sure if it was the Reg edit or Temp, but things are working ATM.
Nice to know I'm not alone though,
    C
