[VIA] KT4Ultra - Sounds Pop, Click and Stall

Hey folks -
I hope someone can help here.  I am running a KT4 Ultra with an Athlon 1800 MHz chip, all of the latest drivers, and sound files are driving me nuts!  The audio clicks and pops and "stalls" for miniscule amounts of time while playing.  It is especially noticeable when playing a video/DVD, as eventually the stalls add up to a multi-second delay between video and audio.  It is really frustrating watching a movie and having the characters move their mouths, only to hear their words during the next scene!
I REALLY don't know what could be causing this, but it is driving me nuts.  I am using the C-Media 8738MX chips on the board for my audio.  Should I purchase a separate sound board, or do I need to change some sort of settings?
Thanks very much in advance.
Garry Wakely

For a while I tried to use that integrated C-Media, but it just didn't work. I'm not sure is the chip piece of s*it or are the drivers just bad, but I suffered from great number of blue screens (1-2 per day) in games. Some times it also caused crashes when Windows (98SE, this happened 2002) was loading. This drove me almost insane, but luckily I eventually found out that C-media was to blame. I purchased Philips Audigy Edge, and everything has been working perfectly since.

been looking for something a bit like it got an old ipod thouch in a audio dock in the kitchen and want to give it access to all my music not just play what is synced
so far my only options is to get an app to use upnp to get the music directly from my nas

and as far as I can tell getting access to stuff synced on the atv is a no go

  • Upgraded to iTunes 6.0.5 sound now clicks and pops.

I've been using iTunes 6 happily up until yeasterday when I was prompted to upgrade to 6.0.5. I did this and now the sound of all of my purchased music is like an old scratched vinyl LP. At regular intervals there are clicks and pops in the music.
This did not happen until I upgraded. Strangely if I play the same tracks in QuickTime Player rather than in iTunes they pay without faults. I've tried changing settings to Safe Mode (waveOut only)and it makes no difference to the quality of the playback.
So, is there any way to revert to the old iTunes installation or is there a fix for 6.0.5?
FWIW, QuickTime Player isn't much of a solution since it doesn't support playlists.

just checking. have you tried working through the other possibilities (apart from the QT sound out settings) from this document?

  • Audio pops/clicks and optimum setup

I've recently begun to use CC to create small video's which will be posted either to YouTube or FB.  These are NOT for commercial purposes.  I also incorporate audio music into the videos.  I use ProTools to create high quality WAV files which I then import into my video project as audio.  I'm finding that there are clicks and pops when playing back in CC.  This is "before" any rendering.  And, of course, it also appears post rendering as well.  I wanted to know if anyone could recommend the optimum setup, editing and rendering.  My most recent project which incorporate some imagery uses 25" w x 15" tall at 240dpi using TIFF's.  Since YT and FB compress, I'm using 1280x720 when I render.  Any optimum setup recommendation?

And what audio files? This sounds like you are simply hoplessly overdoing it and use excessive sample and/or bit depth rates that PS is less than able to deal with properly... And DPI and realworld units are irrelevant for video. Only absolute pixels matter.

  • IMac sound pops/clicks issues

I have a new iMac 20" (iSight), two days old. I find this computer awesome! Everything is fine except for a little issue with sound. From time to time (randomly in intervals of about 30min to 1 hour) I hear an audio click/pop coming from the audio output port (just heard one of these right now). I have a JBL creature speaker system connected to the iMac's sound output port which makes the sound really audible. These sound clicks are more frequent after I turn the computer on or awake it from sleep.
Can someonde tell me if this is normal? Can it be because of fluctuations in the electric current supplied on AC outlet? I work with music and, therefore, I need very good sound quality.
    Thanks for all replies,
    Spinnn

I do a lot of music production work. I have not had the specific issue that you are dealing with.
As far as audio click/pops being normal, I don't know about that. Yes, you don't have the "headroom" that analog recording does when the input sound level peaks and goes above the redline. Sometimes those peaks are reduced to pops or clicks by the software.
If your input level is good, then I do not believe that this is your problem. You may want to check that just to verify.
Another difference with my setup is that my audio does not get transferred to my amp/speakers through any of the Macs audio ports. I have a MOTU firewire interface and all audio is fed from that to the amps.
I have read other posts from folks having the same problem as you describe. I have not seen a fix yet. That does not mean that there is not one. You may want to search these forums and see.
Good luck. If I can be of any further help just let me know.

  • Message Keeps Popping Up and STALLING SONGS

Every time I try and play my music on the go, this message pops up and says "Firewire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided. Press Center to dismiss."
I am, usually no where near a computer. How is this possible?
And the songs hardly play anymore, it'll play every 30 seconds and stop, the message pops up and sticks or goes away, slows everything down and makes the music skip or not play at all.
Is there any way to fix the problem? Or do I have to actually send it in to get it checked. It's an ipod video, 30GB.

    Yep. Tried all of those.
    And yeah, nothing's attached.
Also, sometimes it won't turn off. Updating it worked for it to automatically shut off, but then this new error (mentioned above) started to occur. And still, occasionally, it won't shut off and wastes all the energy.

  • HP g60-235dx sound pops/clicks

running vista home premium. new updates were installed yesterday and it worked fine last night. this morning it pops and clicks through the speakers and headphones if I use any audio(itunes, youtube, divx, VLC). I tried to restore to a point a few days back which didn't help. Then I tried re-installing audio drivers and re-updating everything. Sound is still choppy. Any ideas?

Before downgrading, do the sound also low?

  • ITunes media on Linux server via SMB - slow imports, changes and stalls

I have an unRAID server (lime-technology.com) which is a Linux based server. I'm getting terrible performance with iTunes. The music playback is fine. But if I import a song file or change any metadata, it has problems. This isn't new, I've read many, many posts complaining about this and other problems concerning SMB shares and file systems. But I think I may be onto something and would like some advice.
This is what I've found so far. Snow Leopard, OS 10.6.x, has a problem with SMB and/or any file system other than HFS+. HFS+ is the common files system for OS X.
There are hundreds of posts on the web complaining about temporary freezes, slowdowns, sometimes crashes with SMB shares and other file systems. I have yet to see Apple acknowledge that there is a problem, but there are a few suggestions out there that seem to have helped people. I'll be trying out some of these this week and post the results here.
From my own observations, specifically with iTunes, I've noticed some strange behavior. Here's my setup. I have an iMac running 10.6.4 (the latest update), the latest iTunes 10. The iTunes app is located on the local internal HD, I have my iTunes library files and all my media on disk 1 of my unRAID server. I'm hard wired to the server via a gigabit router. I have iTunes set to keep the media organized and copy the media files to the server.
When importing a song file into iTunes, the file initially seems to copy at a good rate, the file appears in it's proper place and you can see the size increasing as it copies. Then it stalls for a while, then the name changes to a long hex number for a few seconds and then reverts back to its' normal state. The process can take 30-40 seconds, even with a small song file. I looked at the console and I got the following error message:
    Quote
    +11/8/10 12:24:28 AM /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes[2820] Possible unresolved transaction race -103/(Master Music Library/John Lennon/Rock 'N' Roll,(null))+
The same thing happens when I make a change in the metadata. For example, I added onto the name of an album and for each song it changed I got:
    Quote
    +11/8/10 12:37:36 AM /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes[2820] Possible unresolved transaction race -103/(Master Music Library/John Lennon/Signature Box Set 5 - Walls And Bridges,(null))+
This happens for each file imported or changed even within iTunes.
I followed the first path in the error message: /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes[2820].
In the /Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/ folder I find the following files:
    iTunes
    libgnsdk_musicid.1.7.1.dylib
    libgnsdk_sdkmanager.1.7.1.dylib
    libgnsdk_submit.1.7.1.dylib
where iTunes is a Unix Executable File.
I did some more research and have found some posts about file systems other than HFS+ having trouble with app packages. I believe that all OS X apps are actually packages, like folders, but appearing as a single file. Other file systems don't seem to know what to do with these. There was some talk of "flattening" these app packages, but I haven't gone forward with that yet because I'm not sure I understand it enough yet.
I've also noticed that in the getinfo box under sharing & permissions I usually get "You can read and write", but with apps I get "You have custom access". This was something i had noticed before and thought it was a problem on the server, but I didn't realize it until now, I'm getting the custom access on every app. So I think that's probably normal.
I'm wondering if I'm having a permissions problem with the iTunes Unix Executable File. Right now the permissions are set as follows:
    system: Read & Write
    admin: Read & Write
    everyone: Read only
Maybe it's trying to write to that file or another one and doesn't have the right permissions since the song file is now on the server and that's causing the stalls? I'm over my head here. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem with Excel files on an external drive. The drive is attached to my computer which is on a network and another user accesses the external drive. The problem of "custom access" began after our main server went down. I hope someone can come up with a solution so that I can set the permissions. For now the Excel files are all read only.

  • After disconnecting hard wire sound is clicking and can't hear

When I connected the hard wire earphones for the first time to listen to music it worked fine. When I disconnected earphones and placed a phone call, the sound was a clicking sound through the handset. Reconnected the hardwire earphones and they worked fine. Can't use the handset now due to not bein able to hear.
I have reset the phone several times and no luck.
    Any ideas?
    thanks, Adrian

Please reply back with the P/N# (Product #) of the computer, i'll give the exact location of the drivers for this NB.
You can find the P/N # in the back of the NB or inside the battery compartment.

  • Pops clicks and hesitations

Problem seen when streaming from the internet (e.g. BBC iPlayer Radio or YouTube Videos)
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Flash Player 11.5.31.5
Browser Google Chrome (but fault is also present with Internet Explorer)
This PC connected directly to router via ethernet cable.
Another Windows XP laptop sharing the same internet connection via WiFi also shows the fault.
A windows 7 PC and an Android phone sharing the same internet connection do not show the fault.
The common factors seem to be Windows XP and Adobe flash player.
I have tried disabling startups and services in MSCONFIG with no effect.
I don't see anything using lots of CPU in Windows Task Manager.
Advice on what might be the cause of the fault and how I can investigate/fix it would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    John

Hi John, wish I had a solution for you, instead I am just adding to the problems list. I figure the more info the community sees the better chance to fix the issues.
I too am running two computers XP sp3, Flash 11.5.31.5. My laptop has shown the fault on two different wifi systems, one being the same as my desktop. I have also noticed the symptoms on amazon streaming as well as the seussville.com kids website. This is what led me back to flash thinking it could be the issue. Clearly my son was none too happy about that!!
If I happen across a fix I will certainly reply again. Thanks!

  • I have iPhone 4 with newest update and Mac laptop with Snow Leopard and current version of iTunes. When I hook the phone up via USB, iPhoto pops open and reads the pictures for import, but iTunes doesn't do anything. Not seeing the device as a USB, either

Sorry, thought that was the body of the question, so the title is long. When I plug in my iPhone 4 (newest update) into my Mac laptop (current version of iTunes, Snow Leopard), it does not read the music, apps, etc., or open iTunes at all. It syncs the pictures, but it doesn't not show as a USB device, either. I have gone through the Troubleshooting assistant, restarting both comp and laptop, using different USB ports, etc. If it is of note, when I look at the option to Sync through Wifi on the phone, it says that sync will happen when my computer (by name) is "available." Not sure if this is a phone issue or laptop, leaning towards laptop, since iPhoto syncs. Willing to buy Lion if that will fix the problem! I would appreciate any help that is given.

You have written a very long story, and I admit I have skipped most of it.  But I think the question is you are on iOS 7, and cannot get the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) on your computer because your OS X is too old.
The fact that you chose not to update your hardware does not mean you could not update your software!
OS X 10.5 is very old (about four years).  iTunes 11.1.5 (current version) requires at least OS X  10.6.8 to run.  Very likely, you could upgrade your computer's software to at least OS X 10.6.8 and then download the current iTunes on it.
    You would start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then you would update the OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.6.8 over the air, then download iTunes (or update to a later OS X, as the current version is 10.9.2).

  • Pops, Clicks and Hisses : Updated to 10.5.7 (audio example)

    I updated to 10.5.7 and now when I open a GB file I hear this : http://bit.ly/9Wigq
As you can hear in the example, it appears even when there is no audio present. It's different every time, and affects recordings as well as exports.
    Here's my set-up
MacBook Pro : Updated to 10.5.7, 3 gigs of RAM.
M-Audio Fast Track Pro : Updated drivers
    Wacom Cintiq 12WX
I haven't tried without the Wacom attached, although I can't see why that would affect audio.
    Any thoughts gang?

Turne dout it was T-RackS causing the issue.

  • How do I eliminate clicking and popping in .wav sounds?

I tried importing a .wav file for background music in my Director movie. The .wav file is about 3 minutes long, and when I publish a projector I hear incessant clicking, popping, and skipping. What's the best way around this? Thanks in advance.
[EDIT] Just now I tried substituting an .mp3 for a .wav -- it made no difference; popping, clicking, and skipping were still there.

So after a month or so of not working on some tunes, and after having done all the upgrades available, I open a session that used to be fine to discover fades are not working, regions sound bizarre, clicka and pops are now all over the place. It sounds like the tune was mixed by an alien.
    What's up?

Definitely the funkiest topic title I´ve seen on this forum. It´s got a real nice groove to it.
