[VIA] KT4V MS 6712 FSB setting

I have recently upgraded my CPU to AMD Athlon XP 2600 which has a FSB of 333, and should be running at 1.9mhz. However it is only running at 1.15MHZ at 100 FSB. What frequency should I put in the FSB CPU Clock in order to get it ruuning at 1.9MHZ, the number in the BIOS only allows 100-280 frequency.

I have correctly fitted my CPU but it is not running at its full speed
The default FSB (Front Side Bus) for the cpu has not been determined by the BIOS correctly. Simply enter your BIOS setup, and adjust the CPU FSB speed to the correct value for your processor (usually found in Frequency/Voltage Control menu)
My CPU is advertised as 400FSB CPU, but I cannot set it this high in BIOS
AMD use a "dual-pumped" FSB, which means that it operates at the clock speed in both directions. This is the value you need to set in the BIOS. So for example, for a 400FSB CPU, you need to set the FSB clock to 200mhz.
set the FSB to 166mz

  • KT4V MS-6712 ver. 2.0

Hi!! Yesterday I bought a new motherboard KT4V! It turned out that the bios version was 3.0!!!! What the f***? The latest Bios version on Msi Bios page is 1.8! The picture also isn't similar to my motherboard. But I'm sure that my motherboard is KT4V because in the manual there is a picture of the mothrboard and it is the same! So where is the webpage of this (new) motherboard????
    Please Help

On the motherboard sayis I have MS-6712 Ver: 2.0. I scaned the picture of the manual for you, but I don't know how to post it. The problem is that I cannot run my Athlon XP200+ (T-bred) on it. It always crashes! I tried the CPU on the old KT4V v1.8 and it works. This motherboard also has some jumpers to set the CPU frequency. Only the first page of the manual is the same as my motherboard, everithing else is simmilar to old KT4V, even BIOS!! Bios is very simmilar to the one one the old KT4V, just the FSB frequency setting is different. Now I messed up everithing because I updated the BIOS on the new motherboard to 1.8. Is it possible to go back to previus ver of BIOS? Does the seller have the new BIOS for Ver: 2.0 and above?

  • Onboard NIC, KT4V MS-6712

    Hi there,
When i try to connect to the internet with the onboard nic of my KT4V MS-6712 i get the error message "one of the networkcables is not connected".
With an sepperate nic i don't have any problems.
Is there some setting i did forget?
Nic is already enabled in the bios !
I have 3 machines behind an Edimax router with a cable connection.
    System specs:

    Creative Live! 5.1
    Maxtor 60Gb 7200rpm
    Q-Tec PSU 550 watt
    OS Win XP pro

I have the same problem on my ms-6712, the onboard LAN doesn't seem to work correctly, if I connect the network cable to the onboard LAN the lights flash on the modem and the board but I can't get an IP address for the LAN. Although it works fine on my PCI NIC. Very strange!
I've tried, in a desperate attempt, to use a cross over cable but that didn't work either. Although it shouldn't work with a cross over cable anyway.
If anyone has an answer for this one I'd sure like to know!

  • KT4V MS-6712 Odd sounds

Got this mobo a few weeks back now, everything seemed to be running fine.  Decided to change the heatsink/fan for something less noisey.
Now I have noticed a noise !!  Sounds like a off centre fan ! Checked all the fans in the system, nope they are all fine.  Then realised the noise only happens when I move the mouse(usb) or hotsync my palm(usb) or use the keyboard(ps2) !
The noise is not coming from the soundcard, it appears to from the mobo itself !
Anyone come across this before ?

  • KT4 Ultra: FSB Setting for 2400+? and USB Keyboard not working

I just picked up a KT4 and an Athlon 2400+ - What FSB setting should i pick to make the processor detect as a 2400 (currently w/ a setting of 133, it's detecting as a 2000+ 1.67ghz when it should be 2ghz.) - Is there some setting other than the FSB that i need to change?
Also, when i try to use a USB keyboard, it doesn't work after POST.  I am able to use the keyboard to change the bios settings etc... but once POST is done, the keyboard doesn't respond, and every time you press a key, the numlock light flashes quickly. - This also causes all the other USB devices (mice, etc...) to stop working. - Everything is fine if i plug the same keyboard in via PS2, but unfortunatly, this isn't a good long term solution because i use a USB KVM switch.
    Any suggestions welcome!
    TIA

Ok, the FSB thing is fixed, thanks for the help.
As far as the kvm being incompatable, i thought of that, and tried plugging the keyboard directly into a usb port and got the same results.
I have tried just about every setting i think would relate in the bios and none have seemed to help. ;(

  • KT4V MS-6712 Modem Install Problem

    Hi everyone,
I've just got a KT4V(MS-6712) board and finally got it to work with the 2400XP and 2xPC700 256mb RAM.  (It woudn't take a 512mb stick).
My problem is I cannot install my v92 or v90 modem.  When I go through the usual procedure in the Hardware Wizard, I get an "Error occurred" message at the very end of the installation in the wizard.
I've tried the modems in another motherboard using the same procedure of installation and everything works fine. I've also installed a TV card in the PCI slot to see if there was a problem with the slots, but it installed ok.
Could some please guide me in the right direction?  I'm I missing somthing here, a BIOS setting or something?  Could it be a serial conflict?
    Thanks in advance, mrnickyp

Thank you to all who helped me through these strange issues. I found out what the issue was. These are the steps: (this is off another newsgroup)
This applies to any type of PCI card eg ethernet cards, modems, etc
etc. and XP and Windows 2000.
PROBLEM: After installing new card in a PCI slot, get "invalid data"
error message and the drivers refuse to install. The card is
correctly identified by the system and the drivers found are MS
certified. Not sure why this happens, but at a guess, this problem
seems to occur when installing XP or W2K and many PCI slots are still
unused. XP and W2K for some dumb reason then appear to "protect" these
unused PCI slots by making them "READ ONLY" in the registry.
SOLUTION: After mucking around for many hours trying to reset bios
settings for PCI cards, trying to re-install XP etc, finally came
accross the solution. Thanks to MarkS whoever he is for finding this.
STEP 1 - Start, Run... and type "regedt32" without the quotes to run
the Registry Editor. (Regedit wont work!)
    STEP 2 - Navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI
STEP 3 - you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where
    xxxx are
strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of
    these
folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each
long numerical name folder and look in RHS window for the "DeviceDesc"
which matches the hardware you are trying to install.
STEP 4 - Once you have found the right one for your problem device,
navigate back up to the VENxxx level for that device, Right Click on
the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions'. You should
notice that the permissions are set to READ ONLY. Then tick "Allow"
    for "Full Control".
STEP 5 - Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your
device, ie go back to Control Panel, Add new hardware and preferable
use the wizard to try and detect the hardware again, or do it manually
    and use your driver disk.
STEP 6 - The PCI hardware should install now with no problems.
After downloading the latest drivers and installing that, the sound card worked successfully. Oh, and lynux, I believe you are correct, the pci input device was for the firewire.
This worked for me, now I just need to ensure that the USB bracket works. (any more ideas?)
-> addition: USB works. Tried it and everything was detected right away...
again... thanks so much for everyone's help.

  • AMD-XP 2600+ and MSI KT4V MS-6712 MB

Can somebody help me pls? I do have a MSI KT4V MS-6712 Motherboard and an AMD Athlon XP 2600 processor. According the CPU RATIO settings table I should put the ratio 16 and the FSB on 133, but I don't have a 16. I only have a 15 and if I use the 15 instead of the 16 I do get a performance of 733 Mhz. When I use the 12.5/13 the system says it's a XP-2000+, but I'm still missing some Mhz. I did already upgrade the BIOS to version 1.8 but no results.
Pls help me, I'm getting crazy! ;(

I changed it into 166 Mhz and now it's acting as a XP 2600+.
Rob, thanks for your suggestion and help in this matter.

  • FSB Setting for mega 180

hi, i just looked at my fsb setting and its at 166. i have a 2800 barton should this not run a wee bit higher than 2079.6Mhz?? i thoguht the fsb setting could be put higher at 200 on the mga 180's. i could be mistaken.
    thank you for your help,
    s.

Are you absolutely sure about that Stu? It does do it, it is just a matter of will the BIOS recognise the CPU, for example a Barton 3200+ which does run with a 400FSB.
In the 'Advanced Chipset Features' section of the BIOS if you change 'System Performance' from Auto to Manual you can take the 'CPU FSB Clock' setting up in increments of 1Mhz right the way up to 200FSB, so you can do it, as I say whether or not the BIOS recognises your CPU is another story.
I have another nForce 2 system that I use as a server(A7N8X-VM400) and i'm running an XP3200+ with 200FSB in that.
What isn't supported is the use of the onboard video at 400FSB, you have to use an add in AGP card...
I'd try it but I would have to take apart 2 systems to try it out :-(

  • Help: FSB Setting for MSI 875P with Intel 3.06 533Mhz & Corsair 512 27

    Help: FSB Setting for MSI 875P with Intel 3.06 533Mhz & Corsair 512 2799 333Mhz
    Need a little help here, Intel's specs for the P4 3.06GHz 533 is a multiplier of 23 x 133Mhz.
However 133Mhz as a FSB seems very slow.
The 875P NEO has two BIOS settings: CPU Ratio and Adjust CPU Bus
What are your settings for these - I am quite confused?
    Thanks!
    G.

133 is the stock FSB setting. set your memory to DDR333.
Do you want to overclock? you might want to set your memory to DDR266 which is 1:1. so u can adjust a bit of FSB from 133 to maybe 150.
PS dont forget your memory timing. 2-6-3-3 would be oki i think. what bios version r u using?

  • KT4V (MS-6712) hangs on "Checking NVRAM.."

    Hi All.  I am using a KT4V (MS-6712) with an Ath.XP 2.1GHz and one PNY 512MB 333MHz DDR.
The PC has been working perfectly since I purchased the KT4V three weeks ago.  (by the way I am *so* impressed with this MSI MB - my first MSI!)
Now, on power-up POST hangs at "Checking NVRAM.."
If RESET is pressed, machine boots through POST normally and runs perfectly again.
I'm concerned the NVRAM error may be signs of bad things to come - can someone suggest where to start diagnosing the problem?  Test RAM throughoutly with some utility, etc.
    Thanks,
    AtlScout (Sam)

Thanks to everyone who responded; I reset CMOS and that seems to have solved the problem.  I hope every BIOS update won't cause the same problem! :-)
    Thanks again

  • KT4v MS-6712 problems

    Hello,
I have a KT4v MS-6712 mainboard and I have lately experienced som problems with it.
I first thought it was the power supply that was broken because absolutley nothing happened when I tried to turn on the computer. Not even the diods at the network connection was light up. I replaced the power supply with a new one and now the computer gets power (the diods are light up), but nothing still happens when I try to start up the computer.
So my question is, are there any way to configure the mainboard in a way that makes the computer start as soon as I switch on the power supply (instead of using the power switch connection on the JFP1 front panel connection)? I want to make sure that it is not just the front panel that is broken.
I would really apprieciate your help!

Do all or any fans start up?
Take the motherboard out, for a good visual - bad capacitators? - and for a test-run outside the case. Around the memory slots and the processor socket is where trouble mostly is found.
I hope it is as simple as a cable on the loose.

  • BIOS HTT (FSB) Setting in KA790GX

I also have the problem with this board and BIOS O/C of CPU FSB reported in another thread.
When I try to increase the FSB MHz setting in BIOS 'Cell Menu' from 200MHz to anything else - e.g 201, 210, 215 it can be set OK in BIOS and saved but when booted into Windows or MemTest, it only ever shows 200MHz in CPU-ID, Windows or Memtest. However, the 'Cell Menu' in BIOS always shows the new setting although the set value does not load, it always says 200 in Windows etc and runs at 200MHz.
However, if I set the mainboard hardware OC switches to 10% (Switch 1 on, 2 off), then the resulting setting of 220MHz loads up, the system runs at that setting and is very stable.
However, I would rather fine tune the FSB & RAM settings through 'Cell Menu' than use the coarse mainboard hardware switches.
'Cell Menu' manual RAM settings work properly, if I set 5-4-3-11, then that is what CPU-ID shows the RAM running at.
I have tried all the BIOS's for this board and they are all the same so I think there may be a BIOS error for the KA 790GX system.
I have also contacted MSI directly about this through Online Customer Service.
I also have a MSI DKA 790Gx based system and on this, the BIOS CPU FSB setting does work.

    Quote from: Pete B on 19-January-09, 22:00:40
I had not really being trying to achieve any massive O/C from this system, rather just getting the CPU running at it's default 2.5GHz without the RAM taking a hit.
The default CPU speed of 2.5GHz with the default CPU multiplier of x12.5 at FSB (or I suppose, correctly for the AMD based systems - HTT, regardless of what the BIOS setting says) of 200MHz results in RAM running at 714MHz with the ratio set at 1:2.
Reducing the CPU multiplier down to x12 & increasing the HTT to 210MHz then takes the CPU back up to 2.52GHz & the RAM up to 840MHz, a useful speed increase over the default settings. The HTT multiplier is also reduced down to x4 to keep the value below 1GHz.

If anything, overclocking is my strongest point.
And why do you think that?  Explain why it does?  I'll explain why it don't:
The HTT clock will calculate the memory, CPU and HyperTransport clock; having a higher or lower multiplier does not make a difference.  It works on Intel's FSB interconnect, yes, because the faster you go, the more bandwidth you get (you also increase the NB clock by decreasing the multiplier.)  Putting the HyperTransport link over 1000MHz is damaging for the board.  It cannot sustain it for long periods.
According to your theory, it should enhance the performance of these components, but I don't see how it does that?
Well Aaron i haven't spoken about the hypertransport link but only about the fsb clock called htt on new Amd processors :winked: so what you've said in your 1st phrase is my theory or sooner the well known rule by every overclocker.
