[VIA] MSI KT6V BIOS doesn't recognize my Maxtor 160GB SATA HD

I bought new Maxtor DiamondMax 160GB SATA 7200RPM harddisk (6L160M0). For being able to install Windows on the new harddisk, I used the SATA RAID driver (VT6420/VT8237) floppy, that came with the motherboard and everything went fine. Now I have installed Windows but BIOS doesn't recognize the new harddisk at all. When I check the properties of the harddisk in Windows the size is correct (~160GB).
System is working fine, but I don't dare to split the partition, before I'm positive it won't cause any problems.
Should I flash BIOS, install new sata drivers or nothing?

I understand what you mean, kalasilma, but a SATA drive is not recognized by the BIOS in the same way as a PATA drive. In fact, you aren´t going to see any drive information in the BIOS at all. The situation is the same in Win XP. You can see the HD in My Computer, but despite that, you can´t get information about the HD in device manager as you would with a PATA drive. The SATA interface is much more like a software type of interface than the much older PATA interface. It´s a little bit like the old days, when you had to manually configure a HD even in BIOS in order to have it properly recognized. With that in mind, the situation is much more satisfying, as the HD is visible and the size is correctly recognized at least in Windows
In a near future the situation is most likely going to be much better when it comes to BIOS recognizing SATA drives, but with these "beta" testing motherboards of ours, the only thing we can do is to be satisfied with our drives beeing recognized by Windows, using software drivers loaded at bootup. In fact your system wouldn´t be booting at all if the drive wasn´t recognized, since the drivers are loaded from the same HD. I think you can feel completly safe with the situation, since I have seen PATA drives beeing incorrectly recognized by Windows at installation. I had one 200GB HD that appeared as only 130GB no matter what I would do. I finaly partitined it and formatted the boot partition and installed Win. I used Partition Magic to locate and format the "lost" partiton under Windows. I think you are ready to go...

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

  • BIOS doesn't recognize HD

We have different of this PC's in our factory.
Before, my colleague did all the fixes if there were problems. Now he has left the company...
So my problem: this pc has a faulty harddisk. I have some spare parts, also this harddrive.
    Harddrive = Western Digital WD800JD
This spare part has already the whole system on it (sysprep).
But..if I mount this harddisk in the pc: bios doesn't recognize it ???
I have a offline USB/SATA-convertor, and if I put this new HD on it, and connect to my LaptopK, I have a folder on my PC with al the data on the harddisk: so hard-disk is ok.
    What can I do?

By any chance could this hard drive have been connected to a system where Build 9879 of Windows 10 Technical preview was installed? When Build 9879 was first released, on some systems Power Up in Standby (PUIS) was enabled on some hard disks, preventing them from being seen by some systems where the spin-up command was not passed to the disk. In this scenario, the USB device could be issuing the necessary spin up command. See this Microsoft Community thread for the official details.

  • MSI K9N6SGM-V doesn't recognize ide hard drive

    Hi!
I just bought a MSI K9N6SGM-V mainboard which has 2 SATA2 and 1 IDE port. I tried it with a SATA I hard and it worked. But when I've put in an IDE hard it didn't start up. I have an WD80jb hard drive. the error message was the following: didn't find proper boot device blabla.
    can somebody help me?
    thanks
    ropy

Go to BIOS and adjust HDD Boot priority, (make sata drive 1st).
    If problem persist read >>Posting Guide<< 1st
    "didn't find proper boot device"
That means drive is not bootable, if you are trying to use WD alone (without other hard storages) you must install an OS there 1st.
See if the drive is detected during BIOS post too. Also take attention to WD jumper settings.

  • Macbook recognizes Iphone via bluetooth. Iphone doesn't recognize macbook?

My computer recognizes my iphone but does not connect saying it 'does not have the necessary services'. Both devices are set to discoverable. Iphone will not recognize any device.

3G iPhone updated to iOS4 connects as intended in 09 Nissan Rogue. After the update, car did not show in list of previously connected bluetooth devices. As soon as I put Nissan in discovery mode, 3G saw it and added it to list. iPhone automatically connects whenever I enter car (assuming bluetooth is turned on). Perhaps you might want to try pairing the phone and car again. If your car is listed on your phone as a bluetooth device, you may wish to delete and try again.

  • T42 - BIOS does not recognize new Samsung 160GB harddrive (HM160HC)

    Hi all,
I am trying to upgrade from the original Toshiba 40GB IDE harddrive to a new samsung 160gb IDE harddrive (HM160HC). The drive is marketed as being compatible with the Thinkpad line. I took an image of my original harddrive using WinPE, then popped in the new harddrive hoping I could just copy the old image over. I didn't realize that the laptop did not detect the harddrive, so when i did a fresh partition and format of  "drive 0" it actually wiped out my external harddrive which contained the old image and all my backups (oops). Anywho, that's not a big deal because I was able to recover all the files using GetDataBack, but I still can't figure out why the BIOS is not seeing the new harddrive. Here is what I have tried so far:
    1) I removed the new harddrive from the laptop and hooked it up to a USB enclosue. I then plugged that into another laptop running XP and was able to use the XP disk management tool to partition and NTFS format the drive just fine. I created some test files and folders on it and everything works fine so I know the drive is good.
    2) I put the new harddrive back into the laptop hoping it might get recognized after having been formatted and partitioned, but no luck.
    3) I put the old harddrive back into the laptop just to make sure the BIOS still recognized that one, and it did. So I know the laptop is still fine.
    4) I upgraded the BIOS from 3.14 to 3.23 just to make sure it wasn't some old BIOS limitation on hardrive size. The BIOS upgraded successfully, but still no luck detecting the harddrive.
    5) I set the new harddrive jumpers to cable-select instead of master. Still no luck.
So as far as I can tell I have no problems with the laptop (since it works fine with the old harddrive), and no problems with the new harddrive (since it works fine externally), but I just can't get the BIOS to recognize it internally so that I can copy the image over and boot from it.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rodrick

I'm a bit confused with your statement regarding the placement of the screw holes on the Samsung HDD, since I've used many of these drives and have never noticed anything of a kind.
The verdict here is that the Samsung drive is likely defective. Try returning it for a refund or replacement.
    Good luck.

  • Imported photo's from computer, via Itunes, to iphone, now itunes can't find the folder with original pictures from Iphone or doesn't recognize it.

    Dear reader,
i just bought a new Iphone 5s, and decided to download Itunes and sync my Iphone with my laptop. Everyting went well until i decided to try out some things and i imported pictures via Itunes from laptop to Iphone. this is how i did it: Itunes - iphone - pictures - pictures synchronized from 'option choose map' - I chose another map - after, i 'ticked' box 'all maps'. Then i hit the button 'synchronize'. I forgot to look how the orignal map was called and this was the one Itunes syncronised autmatically with, that one also contaned all the original pictures on my Iphone. So, after putting some new photo's on my Iphone, i wanted to change the settings back to normal so my Itunes and Iphone could sync iphone pictures again. But I can't find the old map back or Itunes doesn't recognize the map. I already tried to use the map 'Ipod Photo Cache' but it shows only empty folders. I also tried computer - iphone - Internal storage or DCIM or 860OKMZO; No idea what that means but i thought that the last two folders can contain pictures. However, i get an error if select these ones a map in Itunes. How do I get back to the old settings again?
I hope I described the problem well; English is not my native language so i'm sure this might contain grammar mistakes.
A big 'thank you' for helping me in advance!

When i connected the iphone to my laptop, i found the location of the pictures on the iphone; the a map called  '860OKMZO' (i've mentioned this map earlier, this folder is located inside the folder DCIM). But if i try to open it with Itunes, this error comes up: 'foldername is invalid'. I figured that Itunes could have saved the synchronised pictures in another map somewhere else but i've found nothing...

  • My iPhone 3G charges with a charger, but not when connected via USB to my computer and iTunes doesn't recognize it.

Hello, my iPhone charges when I charge it with the wall plug but not when connected to a computer via USB and my iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone either. iTunes recognizes my iPod and iPad just fine. I have been to Apple iPhone support page and I have restarted my iPhone, the computer, tried different USB ports, etc. I have also tried my iPhone on different macs even with different versions of iTunes and no luck. This all started when I was cleaning out some lint from the usb connector, could I have damaged some part of the docking connection? But why does it charge with a wall plug then?

I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

  • Trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable

I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...

If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.
Can’t connect wirelessly HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
Has the printer been working and now failed after update.. what update caused the failure if that is the problem??

Tested one by one each both graphical works fine.
I have the crossfire bridge connected.

    Hi everybody,
I tested one at a time in the pci-e 2 and works.
And do the same on Pci-e nº1. works fine the 2 card.
"Several possibles. If testing a card by itself in the second slot does not work, then either there is a problem with an errant standoff or other item shorting underneath the mainboard. The other most common reason is CPU socket pin(s) bent or damaged or the CPU cooler mouinted incorrectly or unevenly torqued.
I don´t  believe it the pins because if you look at the GPU-Z recognizes the two cards.
And appears on device manager the to cards.
I am using SO w7 ultimate, and the board bios is the last version.
Is something else must be some setting in bios, and i don´t no...

  • MSI CX61 BIOS/brightness problem

My CX61-0NF laptop came with bios version E16GBIMS.406 and on the MSI site I saw that the latest version was E16GBIMS.902, so I went ahead and flashed the bios with the latest version. Everything was working fine before the update so I know it was pretty stupid of me to update even if I didn't have any problems. After the update, I thought everything was working good but turns out the brightness adjustment(FN+up/down) only works when inside the BIOS environment and stops working when the OS(windows 8) starts loading, adjusting via windows settings also doesn't work. I've already done a clean install on a clean hard drive so I know its not a driver/software problem. I even tried an Ubuntu Live CD I had but still no go.
I managed to find an older BIOS version(older that the one it had originally), E16GBIMS.400, flashing to that version restored the the brightness adjustment but it killed the nVidia GT 645M gpu(not detected by driver, gpu-z reports core/mem as 0mhz).
So now I'm back to the 902 with no brightness adjustment.
Anyone ever encountered something like this?
I've been trying to find where I can download my original bios version but hours with google got me nowhere.
