VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 bus host controller Code 10 & 12

Yesterday I finally got my motherboard so I did a clean XP installation (my first board had a falure). The board is a K8N Neo2.  The thing is that after the installation I could see an conflict in device manager.
The device that shows a conflict is my IEEE 1394 bus host controller - VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 bus host controller.
Yesterday it said:  This device cannot start (code 10)
today it says:  This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
Is ther anyone that can help me to get rid of this problem?

Each time I boot my system (Tecra A9 S9021V) the IEEE 1394 Bus host controller device driver displays that it is disabled with an error code 22 (this taken from device manager).
From within device manager I manually disable the device, then re-enable the device.  The device then displays that is operating correctly.  The device driver is displayed as "Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller".  There are 2 files associated with the driver - (1) 1394bus.sys (Microsoft Corporation; version 6.0.6001.18000 longhorn_rtm 080118-1840), and (2) ohci1394.sys (Microsoft Corporation; version 6.0.6000.16386 vista_rtm 061101-2205).
I'm running Vista Business SP1 with all updates/patches.
Is there something I can do to get this device to start up correctly?
    Thank you!

What is the exact message that appears when you boot? No paraphrasing.
What did you change about the time this started?
Can you do a System Restore to before the trouble began?

  • No "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in device manager

I have a new computer running Windows 7. It is functioning well, apart from the firewire card not being recognized. I can see that the BIOS does see the firewire card. Pages on the web offering advice on this kind of problems start their solutions with going
to the device manager and expanding the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in the device tree. Only I don't have such a node. How can I get the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node to appear in the device manager?
Windows update reports that Windows is up to date.

This is one of many threads I came across googling roughly 'IEEE 1394 device not showing up in device manager'. After a lot of reading I never found a real solution - until I started piecing some things together. This is what I did and it works, seems very
simple, logical. Thought I should share it, hopefully save someone else the agony of searching and reading for hours.
Basically, what I think is or can be happening -- and I'm no expert at all -- is that there's miscommunication between the OS, the bus, and the device. The OS doesn't install the service for the bus unless the device is plugged in at startup (the external
hard drive, camera, or whatever), and sometimes it doesn't install the service even if the device is plugged in. Perhaps the device is supposed to send a message that starts the service - who knows. Maybe on older devices the driver isn't doing what it's supposed
to do, and perhaps you have no updated driver and can't get one.
In any event, I edited an entry in the registry that tells the 1394 bus host controller to start at OS startup instead of 'on demand'. After a restart, the bus host will load at startup, and when you plug your firewire device in, the bus host will detect
it and run normally... At least it works for me. Here's the instructions:
Go to search, regedit.exe, run program. This opens the registry.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Services and find the folder that corresponds to the 1394 bus host you normally use or see in device manager. On my computer it's 1394ohci. You might have to do a little digging here to make sure you've got
the right service. There's actually 2 folders/entries in my registry that look similar. I used this one and it's working for me.
When I click on the 1394ohci folder it brings up a list of settings. For "Start," "REG_DWORD," the 'Data' value is probably going to be 0x00000003. That means 'start on demand'. I changed this to 2, which means 'start at startup'. To
modify value, right click on start, select modify, and type in 2. Here's a link to descriptions of this stuff:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722564.aspx
That's it. Close the editor, restart, and the IEEE 1394 Bust Host controller\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller should show up in device manager. And when you plug-in your device, it should be detected. Depending on what driver you're using for the bus
host controller, you might see an extra entry popup in device manager (if you're using the 'legacy' driver). Otherwise nothing else pops up when you plug in your device. I guess it might depend on the device though. That's the way it is for me with an older
    Acom external hard drive...
    Hope this helps...

  • S431 USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Code 10

In Device Manager this controller has a yellow flag and the device status is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
    I have attempted the following:
    1. Uninstalling/Installing drivers from Lenovo Support
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-s-series-laptops/thinkpad-s43...
    2. Uninstalling ALL USB controllers and having Windows update them upon reboot.
    3. Hours of searching online but only seeing the same sorts of "fixes" i.e. uninstalling the controllers and ensuring I am using device specific drivers.
Note: No pins are visibly bent or damaged in the USB port and I don't have anything plugged into them.

    Bump
    Note:
I need advice regarding a possible "fix"
Some forums suggest removing all power and resetting the CMOS. This would require me to open up the back and disconnect the battery.
Will an action like this void my warranty?

  • P30: External HD isn't detected when using IEEE 1394 cable

My P30 won't/ can't detect my newly aquired Western Digitak Extreme Lighted Drive 320GB when I connect it via the firewire port. I use a 6 pin to 4 pin cable (which cost a fortune, by the way) that is supposed to be a way to connect this drive to a pc.
My ieee 1394 driver seems to be called "VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 host controller".
Can anyone tell me what to do? I really need to connect this drive by firewire because I need the USBs for other devices.
    Thank you!

This may sound like an obvious problem, but is the drive:
    1. Set to Master on the jumpers?
    2. Formatted?
If the drive is not set to master, the computer will not recognise it using 1394. And if it is set to master, but it has not yet been formatted, the computer will register that something using 1394 is connected, but will not know what to do. To format you right click on My Computer, and select manage.

  • Having problems with IEEE 1394 connection with MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum

    Hi...
I am encountering problems connecting devices (portable hd etc) via firewire to my PC. My PC does detect the devices.
I am using the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum board.
Check with Device Manager show that the VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller is working properly.
IEEE 1394 controller has been enabled in Bios.
Need help to rectify this problem.
    Thanks for the assistance...
    Regards

    Try this patch.

  • IEEE-1394 MoBo connector

    Hi,
The Neo Platinum board has 2 IEEE-1394 connectors on it, according to the handbook.
However, these connectors are the same "9 out of 10-pin" connectors used for USB connections.  While this may be fine for the MSI specific adaptor, my computer case has an internal wire with a normal IEEE-1394 6-pin connector on the end.
Anyone know where I could get an adaptor (in the UK)?  I've looked on PC direct seller sites (dabs, etc) and on RS Components but I cannot find one.
    Cheers,
    David

Found this answer at microsofts website,  looks like a winner for a lot of people.

I hope this can help you.
The 1394 bus driver that is included with Windows 7 replaces the 1394 bus drivers that were included with earlier versions of Windows. See this site for details
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/connect/1394_Windows7.mspx
You can try the following steps to fix our issue, [sic] This solved my initial problems with a Maxtor III OneTouch drive.
1- Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box and press Enter.
2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane
3- Right click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..."
4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
5- Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.
    6. Choose the second option---1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), and click next to update the driver.

Just assembled the items below, and everything runs like a charm. Almost.
Device manager says IEEE 1394 cannot be started. It's enabled in BIOS and most recent nVidia drivers installed. I have seen that others have had the same problem, but found no solution.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,
It looks like the MAX provider for NI-IMAQ 1394 may have been corrupted. This can usually be fixed by running a repair on the installer. You can do this by running the installer from Add/Remove Programs.
    Hope this helps!

  • IEEE 1394 insufficient resources issue

We currently have a CVS-1454 with two cameras performing inspections.  Due to circumstances with the inspection and machine, we are trying to move the inspections to the computer that is currently communicating with the CVS.  We are getting the error "The selected IEEE 1394 camera could not be initialized because of insufficient resources on the IEEE-1394 bus".  This error is only happening in Vision Builder.  It is not happening in MAX.
The system specifics are:  the PC is running XP SP3 with a PCI-8252 card.  There are two Basler scA1390-17fm cameras performing the inspection.  The cameras are using Format 7, Mode 0, 1392x1040.  The PCI card is new out of the box, the cameras are a couple of years old.  VBAI version 3.5, LabView 8.6, MAX is version 4.6.2.
I found the various articles on NI.com addressing this issue, but the recommendations have not had an effect.
Framerate & Packet size:  In MAX the frame rate can only be set to 100Mbs.  Reducing the packet size has no effect.  It was set at the default to 1024, but we lowered it to 200 with no effect.
We installed the AVT Bus Driver Package, but when we switched to the AVT bus driver, the bus went away in MAX and then Windows went through the found new hardware wizard and we were unable to get the cameras to show up correctly in Windows Device Manager, nor did they ever show up in MAX.  All the documentation I've seen looks like we should not need to install additional drivers for the Basler cameras.
The machine does not appear to have Hotfix 885222 installed, but I was contemplating trying to run this update anyway: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955408
Alternate video modes:  We tried to set the cameras to any other video mode.  We can put one camera at some insanely small resolution, but then the other camera still doesn't work regardless of the video mode.
I hope I've put all the details out there.  Any thoughts?  Should we need to install anything else after switching to the AVT bus driver?  I was hopeful that would solve the problem.
    Thanks,
    Paul
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I concur with Brad that your issue is surely the famous Microsoft issue whereby XP SP2 and SP3 downgraded potential throughput to S100, requiring either rollback to the SP1 1394 driver from Microsoft, or upgrade to Win7 where they finally fixed the problem.
Or using a substitute Microsoft compatible replacement 1394 driver, such as that offered by AVT.
But I'd respectfully differ with Brad that re. whether the AVT driver "worked right" or not... as it was only designed to work with AVT cameras - and will not work with Basler cameras.  That was an intentional design feature.  Or constraint, depending on one's perspective.  ;-)

  • Help : IEEE 1394 failed to work in W2K (code 10 error)

    Hi all,

  • LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller driver for Windows 8.1

I have an HP Z600 with a LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller and get an error. It is a "This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE error
When Windows 7 is installed, there is no error but with Windows 8.1 running there is this error.
There are no installed legacy drivers that I can use and I have tried many different permutations of driver installs.

    Hi:
You may also want to post your question on the HP Business Support Forum -- z Workstations section.
    http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Workstations-z-series-xw-series/bd-p/bsc-272#.VIMqRDh0zGg
If you tried manually installing the W7/W8 driver (I have no clue which one of the several LSI drivers listed that you need), then that would have been the only suggestion I could have offered.

  • 1394 OHCI compliant Host controller

ok i have ordered 2 of these boards now. the first i just figured was the board  because no matter what i did i got the BSOD and had to heep restoreing for it to work.so i was sent another from best buy who i purchased this from. but now still the 1394 OHCI compliant Host controller will not install . i have tried updateing the software and whatever i can do but it just won't update.
i also get this code in properties
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
    msi x58 pro-e
6 gb coisiar 1600 runiing at 1033 for now
xfx xxx radeon 5870 video card
    windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
    hopefully this is enough info
     thank you .

I would start to wonder if the reseller sent you back the same board. Two having the exact same issue are remote unless it was related to a bad batch of controllers. One would would think the forum would have had a bunch of threads about it. I take it the firewire device cable has been carefully inspected & the device has been tested in another machine?

this never worked, i have had this board now for over a year and have yet to have it installed.
A year has passed? It doesn't appear like any magical cure is going to present itself, so RMA looks to be in order.

Everything else passes.  Device Manager is showing the Controller installed and working properly. I checked the driver and it appears to be the most current. However I have not checked the drivers for the Mother Board and Chipset as I don't want to create more severe problems by messing with those drivers.  Like I said, all other hardware is functioning without problem.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you

Try changing your firewire driver. There's 3 drivers bundled in windows 7, change the driver to the one that has (Legacy) at the end of the name.
    Hi,
I already tried it and some other drivers to. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 manages to recognize my external drive, but after copying some bigger files the data transfer speed dops to zero and I can't abort the copying process. So it's more or less stuck until I unplug my drive.
My FireWire interface consits of this PCI express card:
    http://www.logilink.org/showproduct/PC0036A.htm
    This is my external drive:
    http://www.lacie.com/de/products/product.htm?pid=11064
I know that the FireWire of the drive works, because I also tested it on my old computer who has built in FireWire. When I tested the card with Vista x86 I had the same issues.
What's wrong and how can I fix it?
