VIA Rhine NDIS Driver FOR NORTON GHOST

Hi,
I've got MS KT4AV mobo with integrated LAN (driver is VIA Rhine II Fast ethernet).
I have all the drivers on driver CD and you can download them from numerous sites but it's very hard to get the NDIS / DOS driver.
I need to create disc to boot up norton ghost 2003 to work peer to peer.
I've used numerous other LAN cards and drivers and there NDIS2 drivers have always contained an oemsetup file for with setup information.
All the VIA drivers I've found have no NDIS2 folder and the oemsetup file is huge and is not recognised by ghost when i try to setup a NDIS2 bootable disc.
Below is the setup info i had in with my previous SMC network card NDIS2 driver (which worked fine), but with the VIA Rhine driver the information is about 20 pages long and isn't recognised by norton (and it's not in a NDIS file anyway, it just comes with all the driver files).
SMC1255="SMC EZ Card 10/100 (SMC1255TX)",0,ndis,ethernet,real,SMC1255,SMC1255_nif
; Install Sections
[SMC1255]
devdir=?:SMC1255.dos
device=SMC1255.dos,@devdir\SMC1255.dos
[SMC1255_nif]
drivername=SMC1255$
param=SLOT,"Slot number",int,"1,4,1",1
param=MEDIA,"Media Type",text,"UTP,UTP_FD,UTP_100,UTP_100FD,AUTODETECT","AUTODETECT"
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the correct commands so wanted norton ghost to setup the disc (it always has before).
I found a VIA Rhine NDIS2 drive at the link below but this has no oemsetup file and when i just load the DOS file it doesn't work.

Any ides would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

well..i still haven't solved it yet, coz Ghost doesn;t "like" the DOS driver...I e-mailed nvidia as well but its becoming a ping-pong match.

My question to them:
I have already downloaded the NDIS.zip as directed by your site to use with Norton Ghost 2003.
There are only 2 DOS files:
NVNDIS2.DOS & NDIS.DOS
I tried building the Ghost Network Boot Disk with each of the DOS files & each time I ger this error:
ERROR: 33 Unable to bind.
I let the Ghost Wizard do the disk build tho' - please see attached build sheet.

  • NDIS driver for LAN switch

    Hi everybody,
    we have an i.MX6 processor connected via RMII (ENET) to an LAN switch (KSZ8873MLL) having two PHY ports available.
    I am using as basis the NDIS driver included in the Adeneo' WEC2013 BSP for i.MX6. The driver is implemented to be used with only one physical transceiver. In that sense, adjusting the PHY address in the driver I can work with one and only one
    port currently. Both are working, but exclusively.
    I am a little confused about the steps that I have to do to convert the driver to allow handling two (or more) PHY ports simultaneously.
    I hope that someone may give me some hints and advice to achieve that.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Alexander

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply.
    When the driver starts, it iterates different PHY addresses (0...32) until it gets responds via MDIO bus from any PHY device.
    When it finds the first PHY (in my case, the first address PHY is one), it uses that PHY address to access the standard MII registers to check status, autonegotiation, speed, capabilities an so on. Since the routine stops when it finds the first PHY,
    it does not configure/initialize the second PHY port (address two).
    After that, all the media status changes are obtained using the PHY address one. That is the reason, I don't get any notification whe I plug/unplug the Ethernet cable in the second port.
    In the past, I while ago, I used another device having a switch and as far as I remember I have to do nothing in the driver to get it working, and I think that is what you are trying to tell me. Actually in the KSZ8873MLL's datasheet it states that
    it operates in store and forward mode...
    Thanks.

  • Network driver for Symantec Ghost with new X240

    Good morning,
    I just got in a couple of X240 laptops and I want to use Symantec Ghost to image them. I use the Ghost Console TFTP boot option. Which driver should I add to the image so that I can get the two to interact?
    -March

    You will need to add a Vista based 32 bit driver through the Ghost Boot Wizard and then rebuild the boot package.  GSS currently uses WinPE 2.0, which is the Vista version of WinPE.  If there are no Vista drivers available for the NIC, then using DOS as the PreOS may be the solution.

  • Specifying Partner Failover in odbc.ini for Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server

    Hi,
    We are trying to specify the partner failover when making connections via Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server. Do you know a way to specify partner failover in the DSN entry in odbc.ini?
    We are using Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server and unixODBC DriverManager.
    Our DSN is:
    [MyDSN]
    Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server
    Description=MyDSN
    Server=MySERVER,<port>
    I also tried to use the following connection string in Python (via pyodbc) bypassing the DSN and connecting using the server name.
    cnxn = pyodbc.connect("Server=server1,<port>;UID=sa;PWD=<pwd>;Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server;Failover_Partner=Server2,<port2>;Database=MyDB")
    If the standby DB is on server1 connection fails. It doesn't try server2. If the DB is principal on server1 connection succeeds.
    Thank you,
     Liviu
    LLL

    Hello,
    Did you use ODBC Driver for SQL Server to connect to database that uses database mirroring?
    According to
    the BOL,it does not list "Failover_Partner" as ODBC Driver for Linux connection string keywords.
    But ODBC driver for Linux supports
    AlwaysOn Availability Groups or Failover Cluster Instance by specify MultiSubnetFailover=True when connecting to a SQL Server 2012 availability group listener or SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster Instance.
    The following case is about similar issue and it seems that ODBC Driver on Linux does not recognize Failover_Partner in connection string. (Not test myself).You can refer to:

  • Problem building Norton Ghost Boot diskettes for K8N Neo4-F motherboard

    We recently purchased 25 sets of the following components to build computers for a classroom.
    MSI K8N Neo4-F (bios Award ver1.A0)
    AMD Athlon 3200+ 939 pin
    Kingston DDRRAM 400 512 mg
    ATI Saphire
    Enlight 300 Watt  +3V/25A, +5V/25A and +12V/15A
    Western Digital 80 gig 7200 rpm IDE drive
    Sony DVD/CD_RW combo drive
    Windows XP Pro sp2
    The computers work fine, however we have been unsuccessfull in building a Norton Ghost boot diskette for these systems.  The motherboard has an onboard Marvell gigbit LAN chip but neither the BIOS or WinXP or the install CD recognize this chip.  All three think the motherboard LAN is an Nvidia. The NVIDA drivers work fine in Win XP but when we attempt to build the boot diskette if we use the NDIS drivers supplided on the install CD for the Marvell LAN the boot diskettte can't find the Marvell controller chip.  If we use the NVIDIA NDIS drivers the boot diskette finds the controller but gives us the following error "media test failed check cable".  The cable is fine because we can go ahead and boot into Win XP and everything works fine.
    I know that the Marvell gigibit LAN has a virtual cable tester built in but I could not find any discussion of this chip on either the MSI, Marvell or NVIDIA sites.  We added a 3COM PCI LAN card to one of the motherboards and the boot diskette will work fine wit hthis combination. I would like to find a cleaner solution if possible.
    Regards,
    jdraper

    What you need is a compatible NDIS driver.  I am not 100% sure about the hardware.  I know their site says a Marvell 88E1111 PHY, but you still use nVIDIA drivers.  Here is a link to download basic NDIS drivers:
    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/fattach_get.php?p_sid=PaNaTd1i&p_tbl=9&p_id=25&p_created=1141061119&p_olh=0
    These drivers will also assist someone trying to use WinPE as well.

  • Mac OS 10.5 Bonjour Unable to find printer driver for P1606dn connected via wired network.

    I have been trying to connect my HP Laserjet Pro P1606dn to my PowerMac G5 running Mac OS 10.5.8.  I connected the priner to my LAN via Ethernet cables and NetGear 8-port switch.  I then successfully installed the printer driver from the supplied CD on the Mac and went to System Preferences / Print & Fax to add the printer to the list of connected printers.  Hit the "+" button.  The HP P106dn was listed in the table (Kind = Bonjour).
    I selected this entry in the table, and the dialog box immediately went into action: the "Print Using" pullodwn listed the greyed out message "Please select a driver or printer model" and a spinning wheel labeled "Searching for new drivers" appeared below it.  The dialog box searches for but never finds the printer driver (I waited 20 minutes with no success).  I have installed other HP printers this way on this machine without any problem, e.g., HP Color Laserjet 2605dn.  Why is this method not working with this printer?
    I was able to connect this printer with other (Intel) Macs in my household via this LAN arrangement.  Is the printer driver for Intel-only Macs?
    I disconnecting the printer from the LAN and connected it directly to my Mac with a USB cable.  Followed the same process, and I was able to connect to this printer.  Successfully printed a document page.  While this provides me with a work-around for the G5 Mac, I need to share this printer with the other Macs in my household.
    I went to the HP download site and downloaded the latest driver for this printer, re-installed the printer driver on the Mac, and repeated the steps for the LAN arrangement (above) to complete the connection via the Print & Fax dialog.  The result was the same: spinning wheel searching for a printer driver that it cannot find.
    I do not know what else to do, or why this installation will not work.  I would appreciate it very much if anyone could offer an explanation for this or some suggestions as to what else can be done?
    Ed
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I apologize for the delay in responding to you.  I was on the road all day yesterday.
    OK.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network.  That did not work.  I swapped out the cable for one that I know works.  Still no change.  I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router.  No change.  I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
    As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
    Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
    After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

  • Norton Ghost Equivlent for OS X?  BootCamp won't let me unpartition.

    So here's the story... I used Boot Camp to install Vista RC1, I wanted to see the 64-bit version working on my new Macbook Pro. While installing Vista it is suggested to remove an "EFI" 200mb partition. It worked. But now I want to rid of the partition and put my HD back to 1 full piece, I just use Parallels for my very few windows "needs". But Boot Camp assistant says it is unable to put them back in to one, and I must Backup and use Disc Utility to format my HD and then just reinstall OS X. But I wanna be lazy... is there any option like a Norton ghost, or equivalent, that I could image all my data on the OS X partition... then format my HD back in to one piece, then reinstall the image (i have a 2nd mac to be able to push the image from). Or what would be the easiest way to backup my data... so there's less needing to reinstall apps and configure personal setting/data?
    thanks.

    You have two options:
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/
    Both of them are working fine.
    Please note that you have to use an external HD to backup your existining one.

  • Using Symantec Norton Ghost 14 on Bootcamp

    Just a bit of information for those of you wondering what to use to backup your bootcamp side of your Apple product.
    I use Ghost 14 and I have to say it has been fantastic. It took alot of figuring out and I could not find alot of posts about it so I self taught myself (don't use Symantec Support they are useless) and so thought I would write this to help others. I am not saying this is the best or only way, just the way that WORKED for me. There may of course be other easier ways that I do not know about as I am only amateur myself. Anyone who knows any different / easier way feel free to add comments:
    THIS IS FOR WINDOWS XP / XP PRO USERS (RE-INSTALLING AN IMAGE ALREADY CREATED USING GHOST 14)
    I have no experience of Vista but would presume a similar path.
    1.) First of all you need to create a new partition with Bootcamp Assistant as you would normally do setting the partition size etc.
    2.) Follow the instructions and insert the Windows Installation Disk when asked to do so. You have to do this as though you are going to put a brand new copy of XP on as the partition HAS TO BE formatted via the Windows Installation Disk.
    3.) When you get top the Format instructions. Choose the Bootcamp partition and format using NTFS or FAT32 whichever is your choice (NTFS recommended).
    4.) Once formatted system will restart and commence installing Windows.
    5.) Whilst the system is restarting keep your finger on the eject key and eject the Windows Installation Disk.
    6.) Insert the Symantec Recovery Disk.
    7.) Turn your computer off / restart holding the Option key down until you get the Boot screen.
    8.) Choose the Symantec (Windows) Disk
    9.) When loaded up click Recover and choose your image and follow the instructions ensuring you have Use as Boot ticked without Disk Signature or MBR ticked.
    10.) Wait until the image has been restored and restart holding down your Option Key and Choose the Windows Partition.
    11.) You now Boot into Windows and have your Backup Image fully restored onto your Bootcamp Partition.
    I have to say I was over the moon when it all worked. Fantastic! Anyone has any problems do drop me a line please.
    FOR ACTUALLY INSTALLING AND MAKING BACKUPS IN THE FIRST PLACE JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH YOUR GHOST 14 SOFTWARE. NO POINT IN PUTTING THAT INFO HERE. THIS IS INFORMATION FOR "INSTALLING" A GHOST 14 IMAGE BACK INTO BOOTCAMP!
    Again all I can say is that Ghost 14 Works good with Bootcamp! A great piece of software for the Windows Bootcamp user community. High recommended by me.
    Hope this post helps all of you using / planning to use Ghost 14

    If Norton Ghost is still under Norton's support, I recommend contacting them as I'm certain they have encountered something similar before.
    Do you receive any errors? If so, what are they exactly?
    I was not able to find your model notebook exactly. What is the exact model of this notebook?
    NOTE: Do not provide the serial number, but providing the product number (not product key) will be sufficient.
