Vibrate Intensity on Original iPhone

Although it happened only every so often before the 2.0 update... the vibrate intensity on my original iPhone drops significantly almost all the time ever since the 2.0 update. I can barely feel it when it is in my pocket and I have missed numerous phone calls, text messages, etc. when in a noisy environment. It is usually stuck like that 90% of the time and I either have to turn the phone on and off to fix it (which only lasts temporarily) or I have to slide the ring volume bar back and forth in the settings menu (again, only lasts temporarily). This is really driving me crazy and I thought it would have been fixed with the 2.0.1 update. It did not.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Could it possibly be a hardware issue? Bringing it to the Genius Bar is not an issue, as I have one close to my house.

My intensity isn't intermittent like it sounds like yours is. But I am having the same issue. I did not have the original iPhone but i just got the 3G and I have never missed so many calls and texts in my life. I can never feel it vibrate

• How do you increase the vibration intensity on a Iphone 4.

Here's my question: How do you increase the vibration intensity on a Iphone 4. Yes, iphone 4 does have the normal vibration intensity, but I want to increase the vibration strength.

No can do

• IPhone 6 vibrate intensity is very very weak compared to previous generation iPhones.

Got iPhone 6 on 9/19. Found out that Vibrate intensity is very very weak on iPhone 6 compared to previous generation iPhones. I keep missing calls and alerts when on vibrate mode. Is there any solution to this ?

Yes. There are reasons why I want to keep it in vibrate instead of ringtone. At my work, I keep it in vibrate so that no one gets disturbed if I get a call or text. Specially in a meeting, I must put it in vibrate. When I have the phone kept on my desk in vibrate mode, I miss text or calls most of the time now. It never used to happen with my old iPhone 4s.
Also, I use my phone as a pager for my work and I want to keep it in vibrate in the night so that only I get up in the middle of the night when I get a page. I don't want to disturb others at home. I've been missing the pages now because the vibration is very mild and I don't hear even hear it. Again, I never used to miss the pages before on my iPhone 4s.

• 2.0 & iTunes 7.1 Screwed Original iPhone Big Time!

It seems a lot of people are having issues with 2.0 and 7.1 iTunes but wondering if anyone is seeing these issues. I've add my original iPhone since Day 1 release (yes, 4 hours in line) and have been preaching the praises of Apple and this phone for the past year, I cannot be without it. Now with 2.0 and 7.1, I AM ******!
Nothing has worked correctly since this download. My touchscreen is f'd. I cannot forward email, the button simply does not work when pressed. The 'Save Picture' also does not work when pressed. I managed to become a master at typing on the touchscreen keyboard and now when I touch the letters they are highlighted as the correct letters, but a completely different letter shows up on the screen and AutoCorrect doesn't even recognize it. My caps lock will come on on its own and the delete button gets stuck on and deletes multiple lines of tex. Everything with this recent download has brought my phone to a crawl in addition to constant lock ups and reboots.
There are many others, but the biggest is the touchscreen issue. Are there others out there having the same issue? If there is a fix, please let me know, otherwise, Apple, how the **** did you miss such a simple software test?
Also, I want to move to 3G, anyone having these screen issues with 3G?

Short, I guess we were posting the same issue at the same time--or else I would've just replied to your thread w/o beginning my own. Agreed. Same issues as you (and more) since 2.0 and iTunes updates.
I really hope there is a fix because this stinks.

• How do I use my original iphone as a music player?

I've upgraded my iphones through the years, but I always kept my first one. It's an 8GB original iphone, and I'd like to give it to my 12 year old to use as a music player with itunes. I tried connecting it to my current itunes (11.0.3.42), and it doesn't even recognize a device is connected. It just displays the icon of a USB connector and an arrow pointing to an itunes icon.
Do I need to install an old version itunes to make it work? Where do I find links to old itunes downloads?
Is there anything else I need to do to make it work?
Has anyone else done this recently? Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what you've tried already, but have you considered reset, restore or both? I had recently done this to my iPhone-1st Gen for a different reason. After the restore, make sure to give the iPhone-1 a separate name from your main mobile device.
The new name is only so you can recognize the different sync settings and playlists on the older device. iTunes software can tell the difference wheter you rename or not. Just make sure that you always use the correct backup when you sync, reset or restore.
How to Reset
Two Button Reset.
This is the least likely to result in loss of data. Read that again, especially the phrase "least likley."
Disconnect the iDevice from the computer.
Press and hold both the home and the sleep/wake buttons (ignore the red slider) until you see the silver Apple logo.
When you see the logo, let both buttons go.
If this worked, you should see an icon instructing you to connect to iTunes. My guess is that the reset did not work.
How to Restore
DFU Restore
This will very likley result in loss of data.
Connect the iDevice to the computer.
Ensure that it is running the latest version of iTunes and that it has access to the internet.
Press and hold both the home and sleep/wake buttons for exactly eight seconds.
Release only the sleep/wake button but continue to hold the home button for another five seconds.
Let go of the home button, then look at the computer screen for an instructional popup.
The popup should say "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode. . .(etc)" Click accept to all boxes and let iTunes download and install all of the latest device Firmware and Software.
If no popup appears, repeat the above DFU instructions. If you've never done a DFU, it may take about three attempts to get the timing right.

• I have an original IPhone that can't connect to ITunes. I did a factory reset and restored to firmware version 3.1.3. Please note that both my ITouches (2nd and 3rd gen) sync to ITunes perfectly. However, the IPhone never connects. Thoughts?

OK, my original iphone has just completed a factory restore. It's connected to my laptop, and ITunes restored it to firmware 3.1.3. Now, I can't connect to the ITunes store. I get an error message every time stating connection timed out, or something to that effect. Well, both my IPod Touch 2nd gen and 3rd gen connect perfectly to ITunes, so I doubt it's related to proxy settings, firewalls, or anything of the sort (believe me, I've spend 15 hours researching this without an answer). So, is there a problem with the original iphone with version 3.1.3 syncing with ITunes version 10.5.1 (the most recent one)?
I would LOVE an answer as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks.

Mine had a SIM in it. Originally, when I took out the SIM and tried to restore it with nothing in it, it wouldn't work without a SIM card. So ... I took the SIM that was in that phone previously, put it back in and completed the system restore. I then proceeded to go through the process with AT&T of adding a data plan, which I did, and then it successfully completed the system restore. However, now if I run diagnostics on it, it will not verify ITunes Store. If I try to connect to ITunes store, I'll get the network connection timed out error I referenced earlier in this thread. I'm considering jailbreaking it and putting on an earlier software version. Your thoughts?

• After upgrading to a new 3GS, my original iPhone won't activate...

After I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS, I restored the original iPhone with iTunes. Now, the iPhone says it's got an invalid SIM in it, and when I plug it into iTunes, it won't activate it. It's basically a brick now.
Was I wrong in thinking I could now use the old iPhone basically like an iPod touch?

I haven't seen any press release that supercedes that, but the one you reference refers to the ORIGINAL iPhone, not a 3G. There have been posts here and elsewhere indicating that the restore/upgrade function no longer works on the 3G once you update to 3GS.
I suppose the original poster can put a phone call in to AppleCare to see if they might be able to get some help from them. I didn't make this rule, I am just reporting what everyone else is seeing, with or without the SIM card in the 3G.

• How do i go back to my original iphone if i restored it from a backup?i

I just downloaded the new itunes 10. I plugged in my iphone and began to set it up. When i got the the page set up your iphone i clicked on restore from the backup "My Iphone" last updated 1.26.11. SO LONG AGO. What I want here is to set it up as a new iphone but now I have my old one back with stuff on there from last year and its annoying me hardcore. Is there anyway I can go back to my original Iphone or is that lost?

if you click this link you can go to step 5 and see where i screwed up.
Can anyone help me out here?
HOW DO I GO BACK IF I RESTORE FROM OLD IPHONE?

Can you attach a screenshot and maybe post a link?
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.
*View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.

• How do I unlock my original iPhone to be used as a backup to my iPhone 3G?

Hey Everyone,
Some background:
Back in July '08, my original iPhone died. This occurred 2-3 weeks after the 1 year warranty expired and the Genius at my local Apple Store was kind enough to still replace it with a refurbished one. However, before I met with the Genius, I bought an iPhone 3G (which is what I'm using now).
My question:
The refurbished iPhone came with firmware 1.1.4 and is useless because it keeps showing the 'connect to iTunes' image. How do I unlock it so I can use it as a back-up to my iPhone 3G?
Right now, it's just a paper weight. When I first got it, I was hoping I could connect it to iTunes to unlock it but I stopped it half way through the process because it started to cancel my iPhone 3G data plan (to replace it with the EDGE data plan). In fact, I had to go to an AT&T store to restore the data plan on my 3G.
FYI, I have no desire to jailbreak it or unlock for use with other mobile carriers. I just want to unlock the phone so that I can use it with my current AT&T plan. I also did a quick Google search an all the articles I found were for jailbreaking the iPhone.
Thanks!

Ok, weird. After starting this thread, I plugged my original iPhone into my MBP and iTunes displayed a message saying the firmware was too old to synchronize. It suggested that I upgrade the firmware. Instead of continuing, I chose to eject the iPhone and now it's activated - i.e., I can use the iPhone and access the apps (except for the ones that require a data connection). So, I guess I'm all set.
Hopefully, iTunes didn't screw up the data plan on my 3G (I don't think it did since it didn't show any message of communicating with AT&T's servers).

• How do I use my original iphone for videos & apps only, not as phone

I want to use my original iphone as a video and app player(not a phone) for my daughter, using my library of purchases on my account. I have an iphone 3G and my original iphone is not being used. How do I do this?

After an iPhone is no longer activated, you can't install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes (which re-installs the firmware) since activation is required in order to do so.
I'm not aware of a way to roll a restore back.
If you have the SIM card that was used when this iPhone was activated, you can try inserting the SIM card and do another restore. Someone here reported that it is possible to install a firmware update or restore an iPhone with iTunes that is no longer activated as long as the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when activated is inserted.

• How do I change the phone number of an original iPhone

My oldest daughter just got a new phone for xmas. She is giving her original iPhone to her sister (who's iphone was stolen) I erased the content, but how to I change the phone number to my younger daughter's #, which is still active.

I thought the data erase feature was only on the new G3's? We did think she had password lock on, which is why we figured it couldn't be returned. We thought whoever found it (she knows she lost it on the school bus, there were only two other high school girls on the bus at the time) couldn't get in to figure out who it belonged too...now we realized she had turned it off and someone actually "stole it" v. "found it"

• How do I import contacts, etc. from an original iPhone to a new 3G iPhone?

How do I import contacts, photos, history, emails, etc from my old original iPhone to my my new 3G iPhone? I tried the "import SIM Contacts" on phone, but no luck.

Your contacts should be in Outlook or whatever program you sync your contacts to, Your photos should be in whatever folder you saved them in your computer, your e mails should be in your e-mail server, music should be on itunes.
Everything should be on your computer if you are syncing as you should be.
When you sync you new iphone you will sync it to the same information, that is on your computer.

• I'm trying to activate my original Iphone for a few weeks

My daughter dropped my 3G in the toilet- and so of course it is toast. I ordered a new 4S- but they are backordered- so I was told I could place my current sim card into my original Iphone. When I do- it shows a picture of cord to be plugged into Itunes. When I do plug it in, my computer recognizes it, but the phone is just frozen with this icon. I've tried 3 different computers and they all had the newest Itunes software. Has anyone had this happen? And more importantly- do you know how to fix it? I really need a phone for the next 3 weeks! Thanks for any ideas!

Your patience is greatly appreciated joanr1331! Let's get your iPhone 5c activated once and for all. May I have you remove the sim card, reboot, and reinsert, & retest. Keep us posted with your findings.
Thank you…

• Original iPhone will no longer connect to wifi

I have an original iPhone updated to 3.1.2 recently. Since then I have had problems with it connecting to my wifi networks both at work and at home with no other network problems to speak of. It was connecting on and off until finally, it will not connect at all. I have tried to manually connect to my networks and it prompts that it cannot scan for wireless networks. Please help apple!

First try this:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
Re-enter your wifi info, see if things work now. If not, proceed:
Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off). If no change, proceed:
2. Restore your phone in itunes from your most recent backup. While this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem/problems if part of your backup. If no change, proceed:
3. Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes & re-sync your itunes content. You will lose all saved data doing this.
If no change after doing the above, you most likely have a hardware issue.

• Original iphone works but can no longer be activated for phone use????

I have one of the original iphones that works but I no longer use (as in I paid $700 for it when it first came out). I just gave it to my nephew and my brother tells me Apple and ATT don't support it and he's being told that it can't be set-up as a functioning phone? That the current version of itunes won't support it either? Does this make sense to anyone? Could this be true? I'm on my 3rd iphone version and the first 2 work I just upgraded so now the old phones can't be used? I gave the same nephew a much older flip phone that still works and it has phone service.... Thoughts?

This doesn't make any sense to me either. Are we missing some vital information or is he just mistaken?
Until this last November, I was using a Blackberry Curve. I was visiting a friend and complained about the trackball giving me fits. He went to his kitchen junk drawer and pulled out his very first iPhone 2g and tossed it to me. I've been using it ever since without issue.
If the phone is in proper working order, it should only take a call to AT&T to order an appropriate plan and sim card. The original iPhone is still fully supported by AT&T and iTunes. While iOS support does end with version 3.1.3 and more and more apps do require iOS4, it still affords a very reasonable user experience. So reasonable, in fact, I am reconsidering my original plan of upgrading to the iPhone 4 this month. What can I say? It kicks BB Curve behind and does everything I need using a sweet grandfathered calling and data plan! laugh
